Parveen Akbar is a veteran artist of Pakistan. She has worked in radio, theatre, film and dramas. She is known for her strong performances and she always impresses everyone with the way she carries herself on the screen. Her daughter Rabya Kulsoom, son Faizan Sheikh and daughter in law Maham Aamir are also a part of the industry. But initially she was not a fan of her daughter joining acting.

Parveen Akbar was a guest on Beenish Parvez’s show and spoke about being a part of showbiz since her childhood. She herself was a child artist. Her daughter Rabya Kulsoom also wanted to be an actress but she was never given permission to try her luck. Parveen Akbar revealed the reason for not allowing daughter to join her own profession.

The senior starlet shared that time was not the same as when she had started her career in showbiz. Things were not to her liking and she did not feel right for her own daughter to join such a space. Rabya was studying dentistry and she graduated and started her own clinic. That is when she was approached for a jelly ad. Parveen Akbar allowed her to do just one ad. This is the same time when Raby’s proposal came and she got married. She received offers for dramas after her marriage and since her in-laws were liberal, she was finally able to join acting.

Pakistani film industry is on revival mode for some years now. Things got downhill due to Covid for two years but the theatres are open now and films are back. We saw Khel Khel Main being the first Pakistani cinema release post-pandemic. This Eid ul Fitr however, saw severe competition with 5 films releasing together. Things got messy when Dr. Strange also was released and it took most of the business away from the Pakistani films.

Though huge numbers were being reported for many films, producers wanted Dr. Strange removed from cinemas as they were allegedly bearing losses. This brought forward the question how much was being utilized as budgets for Pakistani films. As budgets are generally hidden from the public eye and not shared in Pakistan unlike in Hollywood and Bollywood. With two huge Pakistani films ready to hit the silver screens, the question was asked by Mooroo from leading filmmakers Fizza Ali Meerza and Nabeel Qureshi.

They revealed that budgets are not announced as people who are not connected to filmmaking cannot understand the maths behind it and they would generally pass off negative comments. Breaking down the business, Fizza and Nabeel shared that a film has to make thrice what its budget was to actually be in profit. Making twice takes to break even. Nabeel Qureshi also shared that a film’s business is not only ticket sales and a lot more including television and music rights need to be added.

He is a host and actor in real life and his persona, they way he acts so naturally and how he is not scared to voice his opinions endears him to people.

In an interview, he was asked why he started playing father characters while many of his contemporaries are still playing heroes. He said that he likes to be natural and does not believe too much in dyeing your hair or getting fake hair or changing one’s appearance. He likes to play the character that he can with his natural looks and he therefore started taking up these characters.

The Legend of Maula Jatt is the biggest blockbuster in the history of pakistani cinema. The film released after years of delays and there was a huge anticipation surrounding the project. The film ahd fawad Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Humaima Malick and Mahira Khan in the lead cast and this further fueled the anticipation. The Legend of maula Jatt also made records internationally and people loved it everywhere.

Yesterday the nominations for Lux Style Awards 2023 were announced and The Legend of maula Jatt was visibly missing from the nominations. Films like Parde Mein Rehne Do and Tich Button had multiple nominations while the biggest film in the history was not there. Thus questions were being asked about this visible absence.

Journalist Hassan Kazmi has now spoken to producer Ammara Hikmat and she has shared that though the film was considered for the awards, the team Maula Jatt was not sure about submitting their film and they have strong reasons for that.

The producers did not want to submit their film for an award show where there was sucha dearth of categories with director and writer missing and having a category for the playback singer thus they did not include their film for the LSAs. This is the statement they made:

While we are honoured that Lux considered our film for their nominations, we find that their limited range of film categories doesn’t align with our values. The absence of categories for best director or writer, etc, disregarding their major and substantial creative contributions, while including one for best playback song doesn’t resonate with our vision for comprehensive film recognition. Therefore, we’ve decided not to make an exception in this case.

Nimra Mehra is a singer who got famous not too long ago. She started as a child artist and auditioned for Pakistan Idol. she has a love for music and she appeared on several news channels. Her song Tu Subha Di Paak Hawa Warga is what put her on the map and she has since collaborated with various artists and performed at several platforms.

Nimra Mehra is among the new lot of singers. She appeared on Ahmed Ali Butt’s podcast and shared that she loves her work and she is working on making more songs for her fans. She also revealed that new singers like her are often insulted by senior singers from gharanas. They will never teach anything and only insult the new talent. This is something she has experienced personally.

She also revealed why she named herself Mehra. She is from an Arain family and her surname is Mehar. When she made her Facebook ID, there were many girls with her name Nimra Shabbir, so she innovated with her surname and changed it to Mehra. Later on the name got famous and it is basically her stage name.

Nimra gave an interview to BBC where she talked about the struggles Pakistani actors have faced in the country. She was asked whether with the advent of social media, things have gotten better for the actors or not? She said that historically Pakistani artists have worked in a very difficult environment as they are a soft target.

She also said that things are still difficult for Pakistani artists. Even social media has only been the cause of more criticism for the actors. Pakistani actors have to tread carefully with what to put out there and what not and even in this era, working in Pakistan is not easy.

Nida Yasir is a brilliant host, actress and producer of Pakistani media industry. She has a huge fanbase because of her popular morning show “Good Morning Pakistan”. The host holds a special place in hearts of household women.

A few days ago, the host produced a movie Chakkar for which she had to make a few public appeabces in which she loved to interact with fans but despite having a friendly nature, Nida Yasir maintains a distance with fans which is evident from her videos.
