The finale of Miss Veet 2017 was held last night in Karachi. The finale was attended by many stars including Ali Zafar, Waseem Akram, Adnan Malik, Sonya Hussyn, Minal Khan, Aiman Khan and Mahira Khan. The contestant Hira Khan won the competition and was crowned Miss Veet 2017 by Mahira Khan. Here are few pictures from the event:
Congratulations Hira Khan on winning Miss Veet 2017!
Fawad Khan is missing from our screens for too long now. He is seen here and there at different events. He is also a part of few shoots but we still have to see him on our television or cinema screens. He recently shaved off his beard which he was spotting for Maula Jutt 2. Now he is seen again urging children to drink their milk and this time with a flavour. Here is his new advertisement:
It is high time now that Fawad’s fans see him in some major role. With Maula Jutt being in production for quite some time now, all Fawad’s fans have got are his appearances in advertisements!
Ohkay so, yet another ridiculous episode filled with filler situations. I really do not understand why this drama hasn’t ended yet? Or are they aiming for 30+ episodes? The story (if there was one) has been going around in circles & everyone’s fixation with Suhana is bizarre. I still do not understand what the writer is trying to convey here!?!
It is absurd that every single time Suhana lets Rameez fool her? She is shown to be someone who is quite mature & analytical (supposedly), so why can’t she see that Rameez is a good-for-nothing who can only take loans to make her happy? Suhana cried a bucket & immediately Rameez arranged funds for her boutique, so why didn’t she even bother finding out how did he do so?
Seema closed the chapter of Suhana from her & Imtiyaz’s life, so what was the need to tell Jeena to invest in Suhana’s business? Jeena who got rejected by Rameez & insulted by Suhana time & again decided to help Suhana of all the people? If she had so much spare money, she could’ve invested it in a more lucrative business in stead of Suhana’s which is basically running on donations!
The way Suhana speaks about HER boutique as if she invested her money in it & ran the show without anyone’s help makes me laugh a lot. She really is delusional I must say. Time & again she gets taunted by Rameez yet she believes in him, but then it serves her right. I must say, the way the writer has shown zero growth in all these characters is something. The drama is about to end but Rameez stays good for nothing till now. Suhana stays a bechari & Imtiyaz stays andha. Commendable isn’t it?
I must say the writer should never take a pen in her hand & attempt writing again if this is what she has come up with. I am sure this is going to turn into Halala story only to show that Suhana finally accepted & chose Allah’s raza over her own raza which is Imtiyaz over Rameez. Please don’t tell me the writer is trying to justify Halala here & glorifying it by showing that if your second marriage doesn’t work, you always have an option of going back to your ex-husband? It is sickening that the writer is showing Suhana as a victim who is now suffering so much due to her wrong decision & in the end she will have a happy ending with Imtiyaz, without paying for all the wrongs that she has done. It is ridiculously cheap & petty!!! Anyways, the only best thing that happened in this episode was Rameez’s mother’s comment about Suhana, that she is a zehni mareez, couldn’t agree more! Punjab Nahi Jaungi gained enormous success in last year, despite the fact that many other widely marketed and publicized films could not impress the audience.
This Humayun Saeed, Mehwish Hayat, Urwa Hocane and Ahmed Ali Butt starrer was praised for all its aspects, be it acting, scriptwriting or screenplay.
Many months after its release, the movie is still going strong. Ahmed Ali Butt took to instagram to announce that the movie had made history by crossing the 50 crore mark.
So Punjab Nahi Jaungi has crossed 50 crores worldwide and still going strong. That’s amazing for Pakistani cinema and we hope such movies keep on coming.
Ahad Raza Mir has suddenly rose to fame with back to back successes in 2017 and everyone wants to know more about this handsome young man, who has proved his own mettle in acting, despite being the son of veteran actor Asif Raza Mir.
Ahad has recently given an interview to Fifi Haroon on BBC Urdu, where has spoken about a lot of personal and professional topics candidly.
Having spent a large part of his life and getting early education in Canada, Ahad said that it took him some adjustments to settle in here and get used to this weather, work environment and the issue of punctuality.
Speaking of the differences between the girls he met in Canada and the huge female fan following he has here, Ahad replied rather shyly that he found beautiful girls everywhere but Pakistani girls also have a charm and softness which is unique to them.
On being asked particularly about Sajal, Ahad said that he found her to have immense grace and charm.
Speaking of his father, Ahad told that despite the fact that he is very proud of his father, he is here for the long run to make his own name and be known by his own talent and work.
Talking of success in Pakistan, he said that a lot of things count including your looks, your followers and how you market yourself. He said Pakistan sadly has more celebrities than actors.
Hopefully, 2018 will also be same for Ahad and all his upcoming projects get the same fame as Yaqeen Ka Safar.
Saba Qamar is no stranger to good performances. She has always managed to make every project she does look lit and perfect. Last year, Saba made her debut in Bollywood with critically acclaimed Hindi Medium. As per her ongoing tradition, she did not fail to impress and won the hearts of audience and critics alike. Her talent has been recognized by India’s most prestigious award show as Saba has been nominated for Best Actor Female category.
Saba is on the top of her game right now with a nomination for Baaghi in Pakistan and at the same time another nomination for Hindi Medium in India. The other actresses sharing the nominations with her are Sridevi, Ali Bhatt, Bhumi Padnekar and Vidya Blan.
The green passport as we all know isn’t much respected around the world. Islamophobia aside Pakistanophobia is a league of it’s own, all Muslims have to go through humiliatingly thorough checking at airports every time they are traveling overseas that checking becomes even more humiliating if you carry a Pakistani passport because well all Pakistanis are terrorists as we know.
When it comes to interrogations at airports even celebrities aren’t immune to it, from Pakistani British actor Riz Ahmed to Indian actor Shah Rukh Khan everyone has and still goes through the process every time they travel because they are Muslims. Shah Rukh Khan often jokes about these experiences by saying,
I mean the guy is so sick and tired of the Islamophobia that he made an entire freaking movie on the topic and named it ‘My Name Is Khan’. After mega stars like Riz and Shah Rukh the latest addition to the list of celebrities, who talked about their humiliating experiences at airports, is our very own Saba Qamar.
Saba Qamar was recently on a TV show when she broke into tears while narrating her story of being detained and interrogated only because she was carrying a Pakistani passport.
The Hindi Medium starlet expressed her concerns and said,
“The way we are checked… I can’t tell you. I feel so humiliated when they check each and everything,”
She continued,
“I remember for a shooting I went to Tbilisi. All the Indian crew members with me were allowed to go. But I was stopped. My passport had stopped me. I was fully investigated, and then an interview was held after which I was allowed to go.”
She further added,
“That day I realised this is the respect we get. This is our position. Where do we stand?”
When celebrities of her stature and the likes of Riz and King Khan have to be detained for further checking at airports we can only imagine what goes on with the commoners and the sad part is things are not and will not be getting any better any time soon, if anything it will only get worse.

Pirated movies aren’t anything new to any of us, the number of pirated movies is increases every moment as we speak. It unquestionably affects the performance of a film on box office and all the effort put into the project by actors, directors, producers and the entire crew is never fully and rightly compensated.
We are well aware that all Bollywood films are pirated and according to the report issued by a German firm the most pirated film of 2017 was none other than the Mahira Khan and Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Raees’. The movie was pirated 6,187,369 times. While ‘Kaabil’ and ‘Jolly LLB 2’ were second and third on the list respectively.
Here is the list of the top 10 pirated films of 2017 along with the number of times they were pirated:
Raees – 6,187,379
Kaabil – 5,263,526
Jolly LLB 2 – 4,435,585
Toilet – Ek Prem Katha – 4,270,529
Half Girlfriend – 4,210,243
Badrinath Ki Dulhania – 4,022,014
Golmaal Again – 3,832,369
Ok Jaanu – 3,657,327
The Ghaazi Attack – 3,429,706
Judwaa 2 – 3,398,929
Rahul Dholakia, director of Raees took to Twitter and expressed his concern over the matter.
#Raees most Pirated film of 2017. Now how does one react to this ? @ritesh_sid
Kaabil director, Sanjay Gupta stated how Rakesh Roshan had to take extra measures to ensure that the film wasn’t shared illegally. He said,
“Rakesh Ji endured torture and agony. With help from private companies hired to monitor piracy, he had taken over 3,400 websites where the film was illegally available within the first three days of its release.”
Jolly LLB 2’s Subhash Kapoor also explained,
“Whether it is the government or the producers’ bodies that need to act, they’re not doing enough. We need comprehensive policy introduced by the government. They don’t understand the seriousness of the situation, and how it’s harming the industry.”
Mehwish Hayat has been hugely successful in the entertainment industry and her looks have had a major role to play in her fame. She has gained sculpted features with a little surgical help and they make her look absolutely flawless.
We have seen her in both desi and Western avatar and she carries them beautifully like they are made for her. However, she recently got styled as a Chinese female for an ad for Berger Paints. She posted the video of her shoot on Instagram calling it her most interesting one. Let us know in the comments below how you feel Mehwish is looking as a Chinese after watching it.
This episode reminded me of Martin Luther King’s famous quote, ” The silence of the good people is more dangerous than the brutality of the bad people.” Tonight, watching Taya Abu feel for Sila and genuinely wanting to help her but failing to do so since he lets his wife have her way showed that the few people in the house who could see that Sila wanted love and attention more than anything else were completely “helpless”. Zaini, Zaini’s father and even Raheel are few such people who can see that Sila isn’t “pagal” and they can also see that Joi isn’t as perfect and harmless as Bari Aapa would want everyone to think he is, yet, all these people cannot fight Sila’s war for her because they can only go to a certain extent and don’t have much of a say in the house. The only person who could have exercised more power is Sila’s Taya but he is no match for his wife. Even with a house full of people who want to help Sila, Sila feels vulnerable and insecure because those people who are constantly belittling and harassing her are much more vocal and powerful.
Just like every other episode of this drama, this one too was truly upsetting. Watching Sila go through all the mental turmoil especially after watching her being so calm and even happy with people like Zaini and Raheel, served as an ugly reminder of how a young girl’s personality shapes up when she is living in a house where she does not feel safe and protected. For the first time Zaini did not speak her mind and was willing to go along with whatever her mother had planned for her. It was almost as if she was tired of fighting since she was constantly facing situations in which she was getting very little support from people around her. Although Zaini’s father supported her throughout but even then perhaps watching everyone accept the prospect of Sila and Joi’s marriage so easily disturbed her. It seemed like she had given up on this family and didn’t want to waste her energy arguing any more. She did try to make Sila realize that she deserved better but this time around she didn’t present her case with the same enthusiasm as she did before.
The scene in which Raheel was teaching Sila was one of my favorite scenes from this episode because it showed a side of Sila which we rarely get to see and it also showed how easy it was for Joi to make Sila uncomfortable and fearful. Raheel believes in Sila and he could also see how Sila reacted when Joi entered the room. It is absolutely refreshing watching so many intelligent characters in this play. Bari Aapa got plenty of screen time in this episode and all her scenes showed how she perceived everything the way it suited her. She had decided not to feel anything for anyone around her except Joi a long time back therefore she cannot see what is going on around her. Zaini’s father yet again questioned Joi but no one else thought on those lines.
The scene covering Sadia’s confession was very well directed and acted-out. Sila finally knows the reason why her mother cannot take a stand for her or for herself and why she has to constantly please a man who she hates. If everyone found out that Hathim was Joi’s son, no one will point fingers at Joi, he will make up a story to save himself and everyone will believe him but Sadia will immediately get divorced and will be abandoned by this family. Sadia is not strong enough to raise these children on her own or face the consequences therefore she continues to trade her self-respect and dignity in return for Joi’s silence.
Dar Si Jati Hei Sila has a powerful script, the director Kashif Nisar has given this drama the right treatment and all the actors have been performing brilliantly. The portrayals are realistic and impactful which is why there are times when you completely forget that you are watching a drama.
How many of you watched tonight’s episode? Don’t forget to share your thoughts about it.
Ohkay so, this episode of Khudgarz was interesting & engaging. It surely kept me at the edge of my seat because I assumed something bad was going to happen to Aairah & it didn’t but then again that idea can’t be ruled out since Hassan’s calm is an indication of a storm that might be coming her way!
Finally, Abeer & Raheel were not only settling down with each other but they were developing understanding as well. Since Abeer has had such a bitter experience in the past, she didn’t take a second in misunderstanding Raheel whereas he was only trying to protect her. It is nice that Abeer acknowledges the fact that Aairah has brought such a nice change in her life & has guided her through. If it wasn’t for Aairah, Abeer would have never given it a thought that may be Raheel’s suggestion of looking for another job had some solid reason behind it!
Hassan obviously couldn’t cope up with the fact that everyone around him was happy & busy in their lives. Abeer not only left him but moved on too & right in front of him, Aairah & Junaid were falling in love with each other with each passing day, so obviously Hassan had to do something to wipe those smiles off their face. Sending old photographs to Raheel only showcased how sickly twisted Hassan is. Hassan literally devised a plan to send Junaid away so that he can work on getting Aairah comfortable with him. Hassan can clearly see that his father is not only sympathizing with him but is paying heed to everything that he says, that is why he is making sure to steer his thoughts against Junaid.
I have said it before & I will say that again, the main culprit behind Hassan’s unreasonability is Munawwar, his father. The way Munawwar spoke about Aairah & finding a girl for Hassan clearly showcased the sort of mentality he has. Also, the way he treated Inayat was enough to show how heartless he is. It is so obvious that Munawwar is regretting his decision of getting Aairah & Junaid married & I couldn’t believe when he judged Aairah for falling in love with her husband & also judged her father for getting her married to Junaid. Munawwar has shown how unreasonable he is & because he believes everything that Hassan says, I am sure he will be paying a huge price because of it. Even though Munawwar found out what Hassan did with Raheel & Abeer, he didn’t bother asking his son for an explanation as he was too busy blaming his wife & sympathizing with Hassan!
Aairah could already feel something. Her 6th sense was telling her that things might go wrong. Aairah was right in feeling that when everything was wrong, she would feel at ease but now when things were seemingly falling into their place, she could sense that something bad was coming her way. Aairah’s dependence on Junaid & her emotional attachment with him was super sweet. Just like Aairah, Junaid has also realized that he can’t be without her. It was for the first time that Junaid spoke against Hassan when he found out that Aairah took a ride to her office with Hassan, it goes to show that when it comes to Aairah, Junaid is wary of a lot of things & he doesn’t trust just anyone. I already feel bad knowing that both Munawwar & Hassan are against Aairah & Junaid, they so do not deserve this!!!
Overall it was a very interesting episode. I loved the way Abeer fell in love with Raheel all over again when she found out that he was trying to protect her from Hassan & all those office colleagues who badmouth her. I must say one of their colleagues is so annoying, I just wish he gets sacked ASAP. All those funny moments that Abeer & Raheel shared were really cute, it was nice seeing Abeer happy & Raheel going out of the way to make sure that she is happy. All the actors; Mansha Pasha, Amina Sheikh, Syed Jibran, Salman Saeed & Sami Khan are doing a wonderful job & the director has done justice to this script & the characters. Definitely looking forward to the next episode & yes, Tuesday seems way too far now. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Khudgarz!
Sahir Lodhi recently did a dance competition on his show where little girls participated. The way they were sexualized caused a lot of frenzy over the social media. Saheefa is a very vocal celebrity. She always shares her opinions and does not hold back anything. This time she voiced her opinion over the same Sahir’s show controversy. And she has really said what all others want to say. Here is Saheefa’s take:
Saheefa has used her voice for a real good message and for us it is high time we start treating our children the way they should be treated on every aspect!
Saheefa Jabbar Khattak has gained quite a lot of popularity as a model and a style icon. Her wedding itself was a mix of originality and glamour and got a lot of media attention.
The beautiful model with a pixie cut and wide smile is all set to start her acting career now with Hum Tv. She is shooting for a drama called Teri Meri Kahani expected to go on air in February this year. Her co stars include Azfar Rehman and Saboor Ali. She will be seen as Laila Ansari and Noman Masood’s daughter in the play.
Talking to the Images magazine, Saheefa said that she went to Karachi only twenty days after her marriage to shoot for this three, four months long play and she is very excited about it. She explained that she had always wanted to be an actress and is happy that she can call herself one now.
For her debut drama, Saheefa said that she found it different from modelling especially due to the slow pace of work. Also, the team had been very helpful and cooperative with her, but she will always continue to be a model as well.
Lets see how Saheefa fares in a time when Tv actors and actresses have a very stiff competition because of their immense numbers.
Ohkay so, finally this drama is headed towards an end & I can’t tell how relieved I am but it is sad to say that the direction of this drama has now become a joke. Everything is being tackled in such a sloppy fashion that you just can’t believe it is the same drama which started off on such an amazing note.
Well, Nazneen & Taimur got divorced & now I have lost count of how many divorcees are in this drama. Let’s count again, so, Shahzeb, Basit, Taimur, Nazneen, Zimmal & Ali (Zimmal’s first husband), whoa, that many! To be honest, Nazneen & her divorces have become a joke & looks like she will be losing her sanity as well! Haye koi isay new kurta khareed de!
Roshni has not only grown suspicious towards Shaheer, she even went on to do a little investigation herself, let’s see what she comes up with!
Reena finally came clean & revealed everything about her relationship with Nawazish. What Nawazish did was so bizarre but then he got what he asked for, but then no one really paid heed to what Reena was saying. Even though Reena’s parents make an appearance way too often but they are being treated as fillers & nothing else.
So, Shahzeb’s mother thinks that he should get married to the girl he refused to help. Zimmal came in search of peace & found Shahzeb & his mother. After Zimmal stumbled across Shahzeb, I already had a feeling that they both will end up together. Hmmm interesting!
Anyways, I can’t wait for this drama to be over now. Please share your thoughts about this episode.
Khalil ur Rehman Qamar is known for his breathtaking scripts. He awed the people with Pyare Afzal, Mera Naam Yousuf Hai, Muhabbat Tum Se Nafrat Hai and Bunty I Love You and his Punjab Nahin Jaongi is still running in cinemas. Khalil Sahab is coming for the big screen again with a new film that will be titled Kaaf Kangana.
The star cast includes Sami Khan, Sohai Ali Abro and Ghana Ali and the shooting is expected to start this month. The story will be that of an incomplete love which is expected of Khalil Sahab as no one has excelled in writing about unrequited love like he has. This time he will be emerging not just as the writer but also the director of the film.
The film is expected to release until the end of the year!
As always, these episodes of Lal Ishq were absolutely flawless. The characters are eccentric, difficult, confused and yet so relatable, so endearing. To be honest, for quite a long time, this is the only drama that keeps you occupied in a trance for its full duration. There is a genius at work behind it and thus all the actors are absolutely perfect in their characterization. I wonder why is it not getting more appreciation than all the silly ones out there who have no substance to offer.
So Ansa Mehrunnisa is still herself and both her brother and son are hurt but she is stuck in time where Bali’s death to avenge Hukum’s murder is the only thing that will make her happy. Her ego is sky high and she is more patriarchal than any male landlord could ever be. In her eyes, revenge is above all other relations, even those who who are her own flesh and blood.
The way all characters are entwined is just amazing. They all shot at eachother when none of them really wanted to. Yawar Kamal was pained to hurt Punar and vice versa but the grip of Hukum’s murder is so strong that it has overtaken all the good feelings of today.
Punar and Rameen have both felt attraction for eachother but the “mard ka bacha” is just so shy and humble when it comes to expressing her feelings whereas Rameen is the strong one who is enjoying the attention and also seeing Punar uncomfortable. Aabi Khan is just amazing as the loving, shy, obedient Mehr Punar who is pretending to be aggressive and revengeful to make his controlling mother happy. Every expression and dialogue he delivers is just flawless.
Bali and Jajji have finally reached truce. Till they had not met, they were both suspicious of eachother but when they met, had a vent out of pent up emotions by hitting eachother, they could connect on a very sentimental level. They saw that both of them felt immense love and care for Farhad and Rameen and understood eachother much better. Bali has agreed to let his kids keep on thinking of Jajji as Iqbal, their father. He felt it was a small price to pay for the sacrifices Jajji has done for his children and he is filled with gratitude. In his eyes, Zohra’s death has settled his score with the Mehrs and they have nothing more to do with him. Little does he know that they are still blood thirsty for him.
Mahi wants to delay her marriage because she thinks she can stop Punar from killing Bali and getting murdered by him or his men or get punished by the state for murder. Even though Mehrunnisa does not pay any heed to what Mahi or anyone in the household thinks for that matter, Mahi still wants to do everything she can to put an end to this saga of bloodshed and let her brother lead a normal life. She has convinced Rameen of her cause and we will see in the next episode if she can get her proper message across to Farhad well and whether he would support her in this decision or not.
The whole nation and especially parents everywhere are shaking in light of the recent events. There has been a mass of kids’ rapes and murders taking place in all parts of country but they have been highlighted glaringly after an innocent seven year old Zainab fell prey to the worst form of cruelty while her parents had entrusted her in relatives’ care as they had gone to perform Umrah.
There are calls now on digital, social and print media for reforms and measures to be taken everywhere in the society to stop this kind of atrocity ever happening again. While emotions are still raw and hearts till beating faster over what Zainab had to endure, a segment from Sahir Lodhi’s TV program “Ap Ka Sahir” went viral where young girls are wearing inappropriate clothing and dancing to songs with unsuitable lyrics. It is some kind of a dance competition between youngsters and most of them are under twelve years of age.
Once it went viral, people got extremely disturbed at Sahir Lodhi for doing such programs and the girls’ parents for letting their under aged kids do all these kinds of moves in front of so many strangers and the cameras. The songs are mostly Bollywood numbers and the little ones are dressed like their heroines.
A Twitter user did a voice over discussing how could parents let this happen, when they are aware of the dangers of sexualising young kids.
What the hell is this shit ?
Sehar lodhi show should be banned forever..and he should be arrested along with the parents of these kids. pic.twitter.com/MFKukHdtJn
Even though Sahir Lodhi spoke against Zainab’s rape and murder quite openly, he has come under hot waters after these videos became public. One thing is for certian, though, that this problem of child sexual abuse needs a multifaceted approach for resolution, with each and every member for the society contributing at their own level.
Noor Bukhari has made headlines quite a lot over the past year and this time again now that the rumors of the ex model’s fifth marriage are surfacing. In a recent interview Noor put all those rumors to rest by confirming that her past marriages were so traumatic that she can not even think about going through that experience again so she neither is nor plans to get married ever again.
Noor went on to express her thoughts and reservations on tying the knot again.
“I am surprised to see so many people still interested in my relationship status. How can I get married again when I have had the worst possible experiences?”
She continued,
“With everything that has happened in the past, I don’t think any girl would want to go back to that. I have made up my mind and don’t want to repeat my mistakes. It is my final decision not to get married ever again.”
Noor added,
“It hurts me to see people making such rumours up about me though. I don’t understand why everyone thinks it is okay to target me. There are many other unmarried showbiz personalities but I don’t see anyone speaking about their marriage…”
Speaking of her career, she said,
“I have decided never to go back to showbiz and neither to marry. Instead, I am looking to join a religious programme once I get a suitable offer. I am very happy being unmarried and am content in adopting religion in this life.”
Looks like that puts all the rumors to rest once and for all let’s hope people will start minding their own business now and leave the woman on her own.
‘Allahyar and The Legend of Markhor’ sure isn’t the first animated Pakistani movie but it certainly will pave way for future animations since the quality and the aesthetics of this film are uber exceptional.
The film recently released the new sound track called “Muskarai Ja” and it is adorable. The song is supposed to be an uplifting one since Allahyar is shown sad and demotivated in the beginning of the song.
The song sung by Natasha Humera Ejaz starts with classical music which is soon mashed with hip hop and the results are oh so pleasing.
Whether the plot and the characters are just as gripping as the visuals of the trailer is something only time will tell. The film is all set to hit the box office on 2nd February 2018.
Mahira Khan is a huge star and people always keep an eye on her social media platforms. So, when her son Azlan used her mom’s twitter to get a message to his favourite actress, it was undoubtedly cute as hell. Whoever has watched Harry Potter can relate to Azlan here because Emma Watson just grows on you. Azlan also has some points to raise though. Here see the tweet:
The tweet was later deleted by Mahira but she also told her fans about Azlan’s love for Emma:
This is definitely the best tweet from Mahira’s account till date!
The three beauties Maya Ali, Sanam Baloch and Nimra Khan were recently together at a friend’s wedding and the ladies looked superbly beautiful. With Maya in mint green, Sanam in yellow and Nimra in a regal gold outfit, the girls totally stole the show. Maya also performed on few songs. Here watch the pretty looks these ladies spotted at the ceremony:
When I personally go to watch a film I want to believe that the people who made it think this is the best movie in the world that they gave it their one hundred percent I need to experience that level of commitment but when I do not see that sincerity in a film it breaks my heart, it makes me feel like I wasted my time and money and as a movie aficionado I see it as an insult to both the cinema and the audience.
Sadly Pakistani film makers not only lack that sincerity but also are too insecure to deal with criticism. With the recent revival of cinema in Pakistan we are seeing all sorts of films these days from topics that highlight social vices to rom-coms and family dramas but the truth is we are a generation of movie watchers unlike our ancestors we experience cinema from all over the world and with our horizons being that widened we look at cinema differently now. Audience has stopped buying the redundancy, the same love sagas being shoved down our throats over decades are now only making us barf and film makers need to not only acknowledge this about their audience but also learn from it.
Here are some film makers who think the failure of their films to perform at box office is literally everyone’s fault but theirs.
1: Shaan Shahid
The film maker who recently went berserk over negative reviews was Shaan Shahid. Entertainment industry is a tricky business and there indeed are people and powers who do not want to see you succeed but how you deal with these hurdles and earn that success is what defines you but Shaan Shahid’s outburst over Arth-the destination’s failure was not only heartbreakingly disappointing but also childish. A veteran like him is expected to have the kind of temperament needed to deal with these situations but he rather acted like a spoiled brat who can not take “no” for an answer and took to his facebook to say this,
To top all this the Khuda Key Liye actor was also seen arguing with random twitteratis who didn’t think his film was as exceptional as he believed it to be. Being a fan I really expect the guy to man up a bit and take criticism like the veteran of his stature should in future.
2: Syed Noor
Syed Noor’s Chein Aye Na couldn’t even be called “mediocre” if you were being generous, the film looked like a desperate attempt to get back a throne that doesn’t belong to Syed Noor anymore. The critics obviously called out the film for bad cinematography and more importantly for romanticizing the same brat behavior that Syed Noor himself is guilty of. Like any other film maker with a bruised ego the director arranged a press conference at Karachi press club and blamed everyone except his stubbornness to not change and said,
“I spent seven months making a film in Karachi and have resolved to make all my upcoming films in Karachi. For Chain Aye Na, I was warned about the bloggers, who I was told don’t write positive reviews unless they are paid. I ignored them but I didn’t know the power of bloggers. My film is a simple love story. And they turned it into a film against women, all because of a slap. I must tell you that it was a slap of love, as all lovers do fight.”
As if this wasn’t enough the director blamed the failure on India and called it an Indian conspiracy, here’s a sincere advise to you sir, please quit being lazy and walk an extra mile to come up with a watchable film.
3: Sahir Lodhi
Sahir Lodhi has a taste for drama the guy creates it irrespective of whether it’s relevant or not so it was utterly not surprising when he couldn’t deal with criticism over his cinematic venture Raasta. To be honest Sahir Lodhi did make a fair point when he called out classism in his video he said,
“How dare you call Pakistanis cheap?… Who gives you that right to differentiate? Who are you to decide that the people who go to Nueplex or the people who go to Bambino are any different?”
Yet another bitter reality is that this video gained more views than his movie because it was beneath average. Albeit I certainly do not expect Sahir to take criticism well yet he can try it’s never too late to change and, I don’t know, “grow up” may be.
4: Yasir Nawaz
Ahhh the cringefest that Yasir Nawaz’s Mehrunisa V Lub U was and yet the guy thinks its the bloggers who should be blamed because well why not. At the launch of the trailer for Punjab Nahi Jaungi in July this year, Yasir Nawaz is reported to have hijacked the event’s regular programme for a couple of moments to share his distaste for bloggers.
“There are some bloggers here who only want to write negatively. We put a lot in our projects, and when you write negatively about them audiences decide not to watch the movie, instead of forming their own opinion.”
Thankfully, ARY CEO Jerjees Seja was quick to point out at the event that criticism is meant to be constructive so we didn’t have to.
5: Wajahat Rauf
Last but not the least Wajahat Rauf the guy who helmed Lahore Se Aagey also found it fit to remind everyone via a facebook status update that it’s the audience that matters and not the critics well we beg to differ sir it’s the ART that matters.
Well the audience pays money to watch these movies and has every right to expect film makers to do a better job, its not a social service and you’re not off the hook.
Self improvement is a never ending process, no matter how good you are at something you can always do better, so instead of lashing out at critics it’d be nice if our senior artists and film makers could put all that energy in making quality films. Let’s focus on art and let it heal all of us. Peace.
TRPs matter a great deal for everyone involved in the business of drama making, while there are still very few writers and producers for whom quality matters more than the quantity of viewers praising the show on social media, the fact is that most of them care about ratings alone! When the competition is intense and there isn’t enough time to come up with a solid script then drama makers very often rely on shortcuts to achieve results which most often guarantee that their project has everyone’s undivided attention. Social suggestion also plays a pivotal role in helping (weak/easily influenced) people decide what they want to tune into, buy or even “like”! Recently, a video has been circulating on the web in which a common man poses to be a celebrity in order to check how people react to a situation in which someone is being given star status by others but they have no idea who he is. Surely enough, most people fell for it and ended up praising this person’s music who isn’t even a singer and were lined up to look at him and were dying to take a selfie with him! This social experiment said a great deal about the role marketing, social suggestion and a certain image has on the general public. This is the reason why our drama makers who are making a serial with the intent of making it a commercial hit make sure that they cast big names, choose a sensitive/controversial topic, give a lot of interviews and create a buzz on social media long before the drama airs.
Unfortunately this season for most of the viewers a twisted storyline, controversial twists and turns, make-up that is right on point no matter what the characters are going through, star power and most importantly proper marketing has worked wonders! Dramas which have no substance are being watched more than many other plays with a more definite storyline. These dramas which are commercial hits are the most overrated dramas of this season for the reasons I have mentioned below!
Baaghi
Baaghi was promoted as Qandeel Baloch’s biopic, one which was somehow going to narrate Qandeel’s story without “glorifying” her. Qandeel Baloch’s name alone was enough to get the viewers interested therefore getting the attention of the general public was never an issue for team Baaghi. This drama was in the news many months before it aired, later on Saba Qamar’s photo shoots which were a copy of Qandeel’s actual pictures, piqued the interest of the viewers even more. Saba Qamar’s massive fan following in Pakistan as well as across the border made the viewers tune into the show since in her interviews she said that this role was unlike any other she had played so far.
Baaghi’s marketing couldn’t have been better and it worked like a charm but the actual content of the show is anything but impressive. The producers obviously bit off more than they could chew and failed to tell Qandeel’s story in an honest manner. The focus of the show indeed is not only glorifying but also defending Qandeel’s actions for some reason. The fact that every episode of Baaghi focuses on just that and the writer has failed to turn the protagonist into a more interesting and dynamic character made this drama one of the most repetitive and dull dramas of the season yet somehow it is a massive success in terms of TRPs! This drama has been “valued” by the general public, the blogs and social media much more than it deserved!
Khaani
Khaani is another play which was promoted as the next big thing on social media and the producers flaunt the ratings it is getting every chance they get. This drama is overrated because it relies heavily on overdramatic twists and turns which most often question the intelligence of viewers. A heroine who is being celebrated as the epitome of women empowerment ends up falling in love in the most ridiculous manner with the man who murdered her brother. Khaani makes a mockery of all those families out there who have been through similar situations in real life.
Most of the comments on social media suggest that just like Khaani (the main protagonist) the viewers didn’t have a difficult time accepting a murderer as a hero which is why they have no issue rooting for a happy ending for him. The drama relies heavily on its beautiful cast therefore no matter what Khaani and Hadi are going through, they always look picture perfect. The script of the drama is highly misguided, unconvincing and callous to say the least. It is truly upsetting when drama makers pick a sensitive topic but fail to do to justice to it.
Aisi Hei Tanhai
Aisi Hei Tanhai is another drama on this list which raises a social issue but just like every other drama on the list, it doesn’t deal with the issue seriously and relies heavily on making an ultimate victim out of its main protagonist. Characters which plead for the viewer’s sympathy and just like Khaani over-reliance on make-up and good looks kills the actual essence of all the scenarios which have been shown so far. Aisi Hei Tanhai’s script is greatly inspired from all those shocking headlines in newspapers which leave the readers terribly upset but the problem is that the drama does not serve a bigger purpose. Aisi Hei Tanhai is also yet another one of those dramas in which the victim’s mother is her biggest enemy!
We have seen dramas in which the mother stands and guards outside the door while her daughter’s rapist is in the same room as her, we have also seen plays in which the victim’s mother shelters her rapist for years and never finds out who he really is but this drama takes the whole inhuman and selfish mother scenario to a whole new level! The mother tries to kill her daughter after finding out how something terrible she did gave a bad name to her family, declares her dead after abandoning her in a hospital, marries her older daughter to her supposedly dead daughter’s ex-boyfriend (as a punishment for that man!) and later on ends up accepting him as her son! The way this mother moved on after abandoning her daughter is a joke yet the writer managed to gain the viewer’s sympathies because of Sami Khan and Sonya Hussyn’s characters and their journey. Sonya Hussyn’s performance is unimpressive in the play and there are even times when she doesn’t deliver her dialogues right. Nadia Khan cannot act to save her life! Sami Khan’s character and acting is the only saving grace of this drama. Aisi hei Tanhai is Pakistani version of all those star plus dramas in which the most unconvincing scenarios are shown yet the viewers continue coming back for their weekly dose of crazy!
Do share your thoughts about this drama and feel free to add to the list.
After Junaid Jamshed’s sad and unexpected demuse, his legacy was carried on by his three sons, especially the older two, Taimoor and Babar.
Babar is the second child of Junaid Jamshed and in his own words the one whom he was closest to. Babar just had his nikah ceremony today and posted a picture of him and his wife on his social media account.
The ceremony was attended by family and close friends and Babar’s picture with his two brothers, Taimoor and Saifullah from the nikah ceremony was posted on Junaid Jamshed’s Official page which keeps his fans updated about his family.
Zeb Bangash has always been a very impressive and impactful singer, not only because of her voice quality but also her ability to sing in six different languages flawlessly.
She had formed a band Sandaraa with Brooklyn musician Micheal Winograd, and the teaser of their song Farz Karo is released this month. It will sway you with the deep vocals and beautifully promising lyrics.
“Farz karo hum ahl e wafa hoon, Farz karo dewanay hoon”

See what Nadia has to say about surviving sexual abuse and opening up about it against her family’s wishes.
May we find the means and strength to end these terrible sufferings that are being endured by kids and youngsters in every corner of our society.
Ohkay so, it was yet another fun episode of Aangan with the focus on one issue – Aqdas’s proposal for Shaina. I think now that the introductory part is over & every character has gotten enough coverage to show their nature, everyone has settled down emotionally & things are pretty calm in Zaitoon Manzil these days!
Before anything else, I have to discuss the assumption that Zaitoon made about Hajra. The dual meaning conversation that they both had where Zaitoon was talking about a baby & Hajra was discussing about Aqdas’s proposal was so hilarious. Zaitoon’s naievty is super sweet, it just makes it so obvious that she is very simple minded but still she tries really hard to portray that she knows everyyyything. But I must say the mention of ’24 hours mai khushkhabri’ got Zaitoon confused too because no matter how simple she is, even she knew things aren’t this quick when it comes to this matter!!
Sadly Abba Jee was heart broken today. What he said about Shafiq complaining about him to Asim was sad to hear. He only wanted to guide his grandson but he got a reality check that no one is under his control anymore. The way the generation gap has been shown is brilliant. Abba Jee only wanted to convey what he felt but had no idea that he will get blocked because no one had the patience to listen to & understand his concerns!
Hajra got a bit too excited, therefore she told everyone everything based on her own assumptions. Even Shaina seemed a little excited because she knew that Aqdas is a nice guy. I loved the way Rubina & Laila were teasing Shaina. It was so good to see all of them coming together & looking forward to Faseeha’s arrival because they all wanted to be a part of Hajra’s happiness.
Even though Faseeha did put forth Aqdas’s proposal for Zoya but it was too obvious that she wasn’t too keen on it as she was judging Zoya for her one & only son & she didn’t really meet her standards. Everyone was not only taken aback but were shocked to hear what Faseeha had to say as no one saw that coming!
I once again loved how Shaina reasoned with Hajra & tried to put things into perspective. It was so beautiful that Shaina curbed her feelings & told Hajra to be happy for Zoya. I am sure things won’t be too smooth & there will be a lot of obstacles in the way & oh yes, the biggest obstacle would be getting Aalu & Anila’s permission.
I loved this episode & had a great time watching it. Even though every episode might focus on a thing or two but there are so many moments which make every episode wholesome & complete, like I loved the bonding of Hajra, Rubina & Laila over the kitchen table where they discussed how Zaitoon should be approached & informed about Aqdas’s proposal. Rubina’s neverending taunts directed at Zahid are amusing too, but sadly he doesn’t pay heed to what his wife is trying to convey. Overall it was a thoroughly enjoyable episode but I am looking forward to the next one as I want to see Zoya’s reaction. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Aangan.
Winters in Pakistan are the most celebrated season of the year. Alongwith so many other things these beautiful months bring, comes the season of weddings. Designers, event planners, banquet halls get their hands full of business and the cities twinkle with light. Our celebrities are also invited to a number of wedding events, some for personal and some for professional reasons. Like all other times, they are widely photographed during the functions. Here are some of your favourite star starlets who totally rocked the wedding guest look and stole the show this wedding season.
1. The best of them all was most definitely Maya Ali. The diva seemed to be invited to a number of engagements and dholkis and mehndis these months and she nailed the look every single time.
She looked stunning in black and gold;
And equally beautiful in an emerald green lehnga choli
Then she stole the show in an all golden Nomi Ansari ensemble
Another time she appeared in another multi hued flared lehnga again by Nomi Ansari.
2. Sanam Baloch’s younger sister Ghanwa Baloch got married this year and Sanam looked absolutely stunning in all her functions, but our favourite look was one of mehndi when her long hair, bindi and light makeup complemented the bling of her outfit fully.
On the wedding day, her hair and makeup was by Natasha and she wore a very heavy brown and gold lehnga by Hassan Shehryar.
3. Mahira Khan was photographed at a wedding in lovely embroidered steel blue formal wear and she looked ever bit as beautiful as she is.
4. Sajal was seen wearing a gorgeous colorful outfit at Zara and Asad’s wedding and with long straight hair, she was definitely the most beautiful wedding guest.
5. Ayesha Omar also attended a wedding where she was in the limelight, as she stunned in pale peach skirt and matching choli and her characteristic light makeup attenuating her porcelain skin.
6. Neelum Munir wore a lovely orange gota work shirt on her sister’s wedding. She posed with her guests, among whom Saima Noor and Ahsan Khan looked as gorgeous as Neelum herself.
7.Javeria Saud attended a wedding with her while family and what makes her look beautiful is the lovely fact that mother and daughter are wearing the same thing. That just makes everything stand out.
8. Kubra Khan was also looking gorgeous at a friend’s wedding in her widely flared lehnga. She danced to her heart’s content and was photographed from every angle.
9. Saira Shehroz, the most stylish actress of today, kept her originality as a wedding guest. She looked totally different from other attendees in the two functions she went to and surprisingly, stood out fabulously. Her outfits, hair and makeup were simple, minimalistic yet very classy and beautiful.
10. Sadaf Kanwal looked elegant at Saheefa’s wedding in all gold and a sleek bun. It seemed as if Golden was the color of the season and lehnga choli the outfit, as most celebrities wore the same with a little variation.
I hope some of these styles inspired you for your next look. They can be replicated in almost every budget with a little bit of creativity.
Allayyar and the legend of Markhor is an upcoming Pakistani animated film. The film focuses on the story of a child and his animal friends on an adventure to save the nature and wildlife. The voice artists include Ali Noor, Natasha Humera Ijaz, Anum Zaidi and Nadia Jamil among others. The animations are beautiful and no doubt this film looks aesthetically pleasing. Here watch the trailer:
The whole story is moving forward now with every character taking steps towards their final destinations. But before all that “HOGAYI NAIMA KI SHADI”. Yes, it finally happened. She has achieved the one and only goal of her life and now she is Mrs. Confused, oh I mean Mrs. Atif. Naima is moving forward towards her final destination and that is tolerating Atif’s mood swings which never seem to stop. Atif was again being whiny and said some stupid stuff to Naima. He was the one who first proposed marriage to Naima and now he is not happy, again, because the final rejection came from Arsala and not him. His behaviour towards Naima was uncalled for and straightforward rude. Naima who is shown as such an egoistic person didn’t even bother to say a word though and she happily married a man who rejected her one day before the ceremony.
Shahnaz is also joining the league of Atif and was confused about her emotions. She wanted to side with Arsala a bit but she also wanted to be the biggest supporter of Naima and both things were not possible simultaneously. Sabir has finally realised his mistakes but not before his daughter lost her space in her own home. He came to this realisation very late.
Arsala and Shahram are moving towards the same shore now. The main leads are finally at a point where we can expect to see them together. Arsala is over Atif and she has no regrets. She clearly explained Atif’s character today. She knows he is not capable of caring for others and is just lost in his own field of emotions. Shahram, however, felt relief on finding out about Arsala’s feelings and looks like, he will not waste any time in making his intentions known. His honesty and sweetness were beautifully translated by Bilal Khan on screen. But Shahram has a long way to go. His aunt and cousin thinks about him as their personal property and losing him to a mere maid will be difficult for them.
Zubia’s character is written and acted out very childishly. Despite all the efforts to make her look stubborn, she only manages to look lazy. The preview is suggesting a blast in the next episode where Bee Jaan will be made to decide between love and blood. It was a good episode overall!
What are your feelings on Naima ki Shadi? Do share!
It is always a treat watching a play which has been written and executed with utmost clarity. Shayyad is turning out to be one such play which is getting more interesting and engrossing with every passing episode. The story is logical, the pace of the show is perfect and overall the drama has a different feel to it mainly because of the characters and the way it has been directed. The story moved forward considerably in this episode and the different turning points in Hani and Saad’s lives were translated on screen in a poignant and relatable manner.
Tonight’s episode of Shayyad opened with scenes which showed that Saad was a different person now; instead of moaning his loss or getting upset, he was the one comforting everyone. He did exactly what Hani wanted him to do and the manner in which he let Salma go went to show that he was far more sure and confident today than he ever was. Not very long ago Saad was the desperate boy who believed that everything was fair in love and war but after Salar’s accident all that changed since he realized that he could not be the reason for Hani’s unhappiness. Saad’s logic for letting Salma go was the highlight of this episode; the dialogues were powerful and everyone’s reactions were covered beautifully in that short scene. Saad’s entire journey so far has been a treat to watch, even in his weakest moments when he made the most bizarre decisions his character made perfect sense. The character development has always been convincing as well as interesting and Uzair Jaswal has given a solid performance throughout.
This episode focused more on Hani’s life after marriage and all the scenes which showed the difficulties Hani was facing were short and to the point but got the message across clearly. I am glad the story moved forward quickly since watching Hani go through this period in her life in detail would have turned this drama into just another drama about marital abuse. The few scenes which covered Hani’s life after marriage conveyed how Salar was treating her and what was Hani’s reaction to it all. All these scenes offered something different and therefore gave an insight into what Salar was capable of doing and how difficult it was for Hani to deal with it. I can’t praise the writer Faiza Iftikhar enough for ensuring that none of these characters appear to be victims even when they are going through the worst phase of their life. Unlike many other dramas, the writer has never once tried to gain viewer’s sympathies but she has narrated this story honestly and has left enough room to let the viewers decide what they want to feel for the characters. There are innumerable dramas in which the scenarios are such that there is a definite attempt by the writers to make the viewers like or dislike a character. Black and white characters can never have the same appeal as these characters which are grey. Every character has some weaknesses which make them more human and therefore easy to connect to. Sadia Khan performed well tonight and Nauman Ijaz was brilliant as usual.
Naila and Rizwan’s conversation after he found out that his wife knew about Salar’s drinking habit was one of my favorite conversations in this episode because it was so realistic. Naila is another grey character which has been translated on screen so well. She manages to showcase her weaknesses without appearing to be a clichéd character. You understand her thought process even though she has not been fair to Hani. Saad’s scene two and a half year later showed that he had not moved on.
This was another beautifully written and brilliantly directed episode of Shayyad. There wasn’t a single unnecessary scene in this episode which made it one of the best episodes of Shayyad. Hani and Salar’s scenes in particular were directed so well. I highly recommend this drama to anyone who wants to watch a different love story which is visually pleasing, intelligently written and engaging.
The preview of the next episode was very enticing! I am eagerly waiting to see what happens next. How many of you watched tonight’s episode? Don’t forget to share your thoughts about it.
After the Harvey Weinstein scandal was unearthed in Hollywood, sexual exploitation and gender inequality was exposed on many levels. It has also been present in our industry for a long time but a lot of self preserving factors stop people from talking aloud about these issues.
One of our strongest female celebrities, Mehwish Hayat, however decided to stand up for women’s rights and join the Time’s Up campaign that promotes gender equality in the entertainment industry in particular and all workplaces in general.
Mehwish was seen wearing an all black gown a day after The Golden Globes, and wrote her intention behind it in her Instagram account.
Ohkay so, before speaking about this episode, I’d share my excitement about the preview of the next episode because it somehow promised a closure of some tracks, though it might be uninteresting but just the thought of not having to tune to this drama anymore has me sighing with relief!
So, it was Meena who decided to get married to Qasim, 1) to save the entire family & 2) to save herself from a lunatic named Tipu. Tipu’s outburst reminded of a toddler that I just met today who was cranky to the core as he didn’t have his nap in the afternoon, but the difference is, Tipu is a grownup & he still is cranky!?!?! Finally, Mumtaz gave him a much needed slap which again showed Khayyam that she cared.
Mumtaz has grown cold & distant but her actions are enough to show Khayyam that she still cares, cares enough to have a heart which even accommodates the one he loves.
Sassi was shattered & finally realized that she couldn’t see Qasim being with someone else. Her attitude basically showed that just like guys don’t like becoming mamu’s after their beloved(s) gets married to someone else, similarly Sassi was not happy that she’ll now have to become pupho to Qasim & Meena’s children. Sassi deliberately spoke about Wajih in front to Qasim to get a reaction out of him only to assure herself that he still loved her & he still cared for her because the moment she got what she was expexting, she allowed him to leave. To be honest, even though Sajal’s performance was perfect in the scene where she was crying it still didn’t move me 1) because I am done with her character 2) I know that Meena will leave eventually!
Ummm nothing else happened in this episode which needs to be spoken about, oh yes, Wajih used Sassi to get to Sonia Jahan & further torture her & Khayyam, like seriously, he ain’t get anything else to do? Sad to see that just like Meena & Tipu, his character didn’t bring anything to the table as well! Please share your thoughts about this episode of O Rangreza!
Zainab Ansari has not only sent a shiver down the spine’s of our nation but humans everywhere. Supermodel/Actor Cara Delevingne has also lent her support to #JusticeforZainab she took to her instagram and expressed her grief over this heinous act.
Some other international personalities also expressed their concern at the unfortunate incident.
Common citizens around the globe stood up for the cause as well.
Voices were raised from across the border demanding justice for the departed angel.
Humanity stands together today and demands justice from the ruling authorities. May the culprit be hanged and hanged high.
Noor Bukhari had been in news in the later half of last year after her fourth marriage broke and then she announced her decision to be a practicing muslimah. She appeared in a number of talk shows with hijab and declared that preaching of Islam is her true calling.
Recently it seems that she felt in hot waters again due to some rumors about her fifth marriage and that prompted her to record a very emotional video message. In this short clip, Noor is covered in a shawl and wears no makeup. She is requesting people to stop speculating about her fifth marriage and not spread such rumors. She said that she only wants to raise her daughter in peace now, who is effected by these thing being said about her mother. She also explained that she tried to settle down in four marriages but that did not happen despite her best efforts and now she has no plans of remarrying. Also, she does not have her divorce certificate yet so there is no question of a fifth marriage and she is out of showbiz, so people should stop gossiping about her. She only wants to pray to Allah for the rest of her life now.
