Teri Raza Episode 9 & 10 Review – Ridiculous!

Ohkay so, going by the previous 2 episodes, just when I was beginning to feel that the story & the characters of this drama were now starting to make some sense, this episode came as a ride that evokes motion sickness & makes you nauseous. The story & the characters were once again all over the place & the amount of screaming that happened in this particular episode has left me temporarily deafened. It is amusing to see the writer’s thought process where she is creating one unrealistic scenario after another to keep Suhana & Rameez linked with each other, so much so that almost the entire time I am left wondering where does this happen & on which planet?

I am not too sure what to make out of Suhana’s character, like in the previous episode, she was furious that her cousin Seema got a ride from Imtiyaz to the hospital when her mother was suddenly hospitalized, so much so that Suhana ended up misbehaving with her only to later apologize. It was quite considerate of Imtiyaz to bring Seema to his home & politely requesting her to clear off any misunderstanding that Suhana had. Even though it was Suhana who told Imtiyaz that he shouldn’t have put Seema in an awkward position but for Imtiyaz, Suhana’s peace of mind mattered the most & he made sure to do everything that would guarantee it. To me, Suhana is just like an immature, spoiled brat who wants things her way, even though she is not into this marriage but she didn’t appreciate Seema’s candidness with Imtiyaz? Why so? I am sure this was not because Suhana has become a bit possessive about her husband, it was more like Suhana didn’t have anything to create an issue over, so she grabbed this opportunity to keep her face forlorn for a couple of days more!

Even though Kiran’s character in Kankar had quite a substance but by the end of the drama even she started to irk me, for the reason that she was turning out to be someone who didn’t want anyone to say anything to her & for the exact same reason, Suhana reminded me of Kiran in these episodes as well. Yes, she is trying hard to fulfill her wifely duties but then she is still doing everything to let Imtiyaz know that she is not into this relationship emotionally & mentally & the moment someone says something to her, she goes into ‘mujhe kuch kyun kaha’ mode.

This episode was ridiculous if I have to describe it in one word. Apart from Imtiyaz, every single character was behaving ridiculously & for what reason, I am sure even the writer has no answer to that. It is so obvious that the writer wants to keep Suhana & Rameez linked to each other that is why such ridiculous situations keep on arising which make no sense whatsoever. As if Talat wasn’t enough that even Zafar decided to participate in the circus that his wife was a ring-master of. Just because Imtiyaz recommended Suhana’s friends in his firm for a job, both Talat & Zafar thought it was a good idea to tell Imtiyaz that his wife’s ex-boyfriend is one of the guys who has submitted his CV in his firm? Like seriously? Who would’ve thought of that & why? Why does Talat has these pangs every now & then that compel her to convey it to Imtiyaz that Suhana was dating someone before getting married to him? At one hand she wants Suhana to do everything to make this marriage work & on the other, she herself is doing everything to destroy it. Talat’s fixation with Rameez is beyond me. If Suhana & Imtiyaz have a spat, she calls up Rameez’s mother, now if he applied for a job in Imtiyaz’s firm (which he didn’t), she once again linked it to Suhana & called his mother? I wish Talat & Zafar had more kids because then they’d stop obsessing over Suhana’s ex boyfriend & do something productive.

The entire ex-boyfriend’s mother kidnapping Suhana was such a hilarious scenario & then to add more to the non-serious approach, Rameez’s father Sultan ended up faking a heart-attack to help Suhana run away from his wife’s house-arrest? Seriously? Suhana’s claim that wo Rameez ki aur Rameez uska kya lagta hai was so OTT, but then everyone in this mental family is OTT so no wonder why she was behaving this way. The amount of screaming & yelling that happened in this episode was sickening, like even after muting the TV I could still hear their howling. I must say, the award for coming up with the worst assumptions goes to Manzura, like no surprises why she behaves like a lunatic too, I am sure Suhana’s family has had quite an influence on her. I lol’ed when she told Talat that may be someone had shot Rameez & now Talat will be facing the brunt for it? Uf!

I am sure in the middle of all this, as per the preview, Seema will now try to call to dibs on Imtiyaz, since she is just as desperate as Suhana Desperatana & she has clearly seen that Suhana is still in love with Rameez & Imtiyaz holds no importance in her life, so she will try to make the most of the situation because even she has been behaving like a dog without the bone for quite sometime now, so yep, she will be doing everything to grab the bone this time around. But there’s one thing that I find actually quite amusing, if something happens in Suhana’s life, Rameez is immediately contacted & then blamed, similarly if something happens to Rameez, everyone calls Suhana up as if she is his mother & she has adopted him? Like don’t these guys have a basic common sense that Suhana is now married so why do they assume that she’d be in contact with Rameez, keeping a hawk-eye on his each & every move? This story is beyond ridiculous & I think it can be only watched as a serious-comedy but yes, I will warn all the readers to turn the volume down because these guys are out there with an agenda to deafen you & they can succeed in it considering the amount of screaming they did. I must say I am so disappointed in Sanam Baloch’s overall choice of character & even the portrayal, she has lost her charm, she has clearly forgotten how to act & I think she needs to sit back & revisit her choices if someone (after such a substandard performance) approaches her for another drama! Please share your thoughts about these two episodes of Teri Raza!

Strong Female Characters Of Our Dramas

Long gone are the days when females were casted into dramas and movies because the man needed a prop. Slowly but gradually the whole world has taken a feminist approach in entertainment business, just like many other businesses and our showbiz has followed suit.

In our dramas that come a dime a dozen, there are certainly some very memorable characters played by strong headed independent women, and their hallmark is not that they were born or married rich or were bestowed with extraordinary beauty that made them use these things to their advantage. Rather, the emphasis is on the girls next door.. flawed, imperfect, ordinary and yet they have a spirit that is totally unbreakable. It’s about women who stand up for themselves, for their values and for their relations. Our dramas have evolved into some very women centred themes and have succeeded brilliantly. Here we will discuss some memorable roles played by women in characters that stood true to themselves and went after what they wanted, not what the society would expect them to want. The list is b no means exclusive, and there’s must be more characters that left a mark, but we will discuss a few of them here.

Strong Female Characters Of Our Dramas

Zindgi Gulzar Hai was written by Unera Ahmed, who is a very unconventional feminist and Sanam Saeed blew life into Kashaf and made her a legend for years to come. Kashaf was strong headed to the point of being stubborn. She held her dignity highest and was willing to give it any required sacrifice. Raised by a single educated mother and absent father, Kashaf was the prime example of a self made girl out to touch the horizons. The play must have given young girls the idea that anything is possible as long as you work with integrity.

Strong Female Characters Of Our Dramas

Kankar was about a girl standing up to a husband who loved her and pampered her and spoilt her with presents and yet did not think it was a big deal to take out a little bit of anger here and there on his wife, especially if she dared to start or contribute to an argument. Their economic differences made no problem for Kiran as she placed her self respect at a much higher place than all that her abusive husband’s money could buy. Despite being called extremely lucky to have married into such riches, she stood her ground and refused to get intimidated by the fact that she was a very ordinary girl while he was a big industrialist. She was an inspiration to the women especially in Pakistan who remain mute for years over domestic abuse. It was a powerful drama in every meaning that it managed to convey.

Strong Female Characters Of Our Dramas

Shanakht was about a girl who was born and brought up very liberally and then suddenly a friend of hers ignited he light of truth in her heart and that is how she becomes a practising Muslim. From breaking old friendships to be labelled as an outcast, Annie stood firm in her beliefs and the faith that she had just embraced. At her inlaws place, she was the most humble, gentlest soul and that is how she faced all trials..with a steady soothing  calm that had become her hallmark since she had delved into Islamic practices so wholeheartedly, and that too coming from an elite society where it is entirely unheard of.

Strong Female Characters Of Our Dramas

The Udaari women deserve a round of applause for making women all over the world so proud of being women. They were all village simpletons who showed their fighter spirits once they were out of that orthodox environment. From Sheedan to Sajjo to Meera to Zebo, these girls were stories in themselves. They were uneducated, yet the lesson of self awareness was learnt by them without any formal education. They stood up for eachother and became a clan where the injured and wounded is so well supported that soon there is no injured party in the whole clan. Hats off to all of them for telling their audience what women can do when it falls down to their shoulders and how a mother can fight for every demon that comes her way.

Strong Female Characters Of Our Dramas

Ayesha Khan is certainly not one to deviate much from the societal norms and formula performances but in “khuda mera bhi hai”, she was a legend. A mother of gender queer child who had to give up her marriage for that child, Ayesha Khan did a brilliant job in portraying the grief, the sorrow, all the while defending her baby. Ayesha Khan showed the unprecedented love of a mother for her flawed child and her burning desire to make his life count for something worthwhile. The idea behind the drama that a mother can stand up for her imperfect child and make his life as normal as possible was just amazing and exactly what women of today need.

Strong Female Characters Of Our Dramas

Anmol is the heart of Dillagi, a woman unimpressed by the status of her suitor, a woman after her own heart and a fiery soul, she was not easily defeatable. It is not that everything she did was right but she was true to her own self all along, be it love or hate, she was not doing anything to please anyone, no matter whom. Mehwish Hayat is such a natural in these roles that you cannot help thinking that she does not perform them, she owns them, through and through.

Baaghi Episode 7 Review – Impressive Performances

This was the best episode of Baaghi so far because it covered a great deal and with this episode the story finally moved forward to the next phase of Fauzia’s life. In the previous episode the viewers were shown that even though Fauzia’s circumstances were not favorable and her marriage was gradually falling apart but even then she kept on reminding herself that this was not the life she wanted. This episode showed Fauzia’s frustration after every woman she turned to for advice and support told her that there was nothing odd about the way her marriage turned out because all husbands were unfaithful and wives had to put up with it. The reaction of Fauzia’s mother in particular was covered brilliantly; the way she kept on enjoying her snack and wasn’t the least bit alarmed said a great deal about her frame of mind! In fact her mother told her that she already knew that Abid was having an affair and acted as if Fauzia was overreacting. This was yet another incident which showed that Fauzia was not like all these other women; she had standards all of her own. Eventually Fauzia had no choice but to go back to the same house and this was yet another development which was covered superbly. Fauzia’s emotional goodbye and the way her mother in law greeted her said a great deal about everyone felt about the situation. For the first time, her younger brother expressed his support for Fauzia. Saba Qamar and Ali Kazmi’s phenomenal performance made their scenes even more realistic. Both of them have given exceptional performances in the play.

Baaghi Episode 7 Review - Impressive Performances

When Fauzia packed her bags to leave, I wasn’t expecting her to go back to Abid’s house but so far she has been shown as someone who does not take extreme measures until and unless she is left with absolutely no choice. Also, Fauzia has always been very “focused”, her main goal in life is to pursue a career in showbiz. Even when she decided to get married to Abid, the main motivation was the promise he made to her regarding her ambitions about working in showbiz some day. So far Fauzia did not get an opportunity to pursue her ambition but now for the first time she has an offer which she believes can change her life forever. I cannot praise Saba Qamar enough for enacting this role faultlessly on screen, she is the best thing about this play. Her overall look, from her wrinkled clothes to those cheap clips and the messed up hairstyle is right on point. (Alprazolam) The way her expressions and body language change with every situation makes her portrayal picture perfect. Saba Faisal and Seemi Raheel are also giving superb performances in this play and I must say that they simply get better with every episode.

Fauzia’s brother should have been given some screen time in tonight’s episode since he was one of those people in the house who was dead against her marriage. He has not made an appearance for quite some time now which is rather odd especially because there are already very few characters in the play. Overall, this was an intense and emotional episode of Baaghi and the first one which actually held my interest right till the end. The preview of the next episode was also interesting; I am waiting to find out what turn Fauzia’s life takes from here since she has absolutely no support from any of her family members and is all alone in the city!

How many of you watched tonight’s episode? Do share your thoughts about it.

Yaar e Bewafa Episode 10 Review – Pick Up The Pace Please!

Ohkay so, one track finally got a closure in this episode & now I am looking forward to the second phase of the story. I must say the pace of the drama is way too slow & I am not sure if this is how the pace is going to be or it will slow down further. I really think a few & new twists & turns are required to keep the drama engaging, so let’s hope for the best.

Just like I predicted, seeing Ahmed all happy with the luxuries he was getting because of his mother at his grandfather’s place, Zaid felt like a failure & that is what pushed him to accept Fizza’s demand. Zaid gave up on everything only for the sake of his son because even he admitted that he could never afford to give Ahmed what he wanted. Zaid realized that there was no need to fight so hard because realistically, he couldn’t do as much as Fizza would for their child, so he accepted it as his fate.

Fizza also ended up taking the case back, I liked this development because it was unpredictable & I didn’t see it coming. At least they both didn’t get divorced but just got separated because they both had different priorities. I think this was the mature way to go about it. Yes, in her anger & frustration, Fizza really pushed things to the limit but then understood Zaid’s perspective & realized that there was no need to end this relationship, at least this way Ahmed would always have someone whom he’d know as his father. Zaid wasn’t stopping Fizza from leaving so there was no need for her to divorce him.

I literally forwarded all of Saleem’s scenes because I am tired of his yells & screams. I think Amna is thinking in the right direction that she should work so that at least she can provide some decent meals to her son. It is ridiculous that Saleem expects Amna to starve herself but not say a word. I really can’t wait for things to kick-start in Amna’s life where there would be everything except Saleem’s screaming. I think now that Amna is looking for work, someone will get Zaid & Amna in touch with each other where she will take care of his mother, may be this will be the job that Saleem would approve of.

Overall, this episode was pretty simple & didn’t give much to talk about apart from Zaid & Fizza’s decision of not divorcing each other. I must say the dependence on flashbacks was way too much in this episode & literally by forwarding those flashbacks, I watched this entire episode in nearly half the time. Really want things to get going now & I think they will since Zaid is giving hard time to the aunt who is taking care of his mother, so Zaid will definitely be needing someone else to look after Humera. Danyal Zafar Talks About His Awesome Big Brother

Danyal Zafar has started to gain his own footing in the music industry that was very much in awe of his big brother. Recently, in a video which is BTS of Coke studio season 10, Danyal talks about his big brother Ali Zafar.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BYqcccJlqe_/

Danyal tells that his brother is his inspiration and his pride and he does not have words to explain how it feels to perform with him. He further added about their song “julie” that the brothers jammed up the tune in their kitchen. Watching them perform together is a powerhouse of entertainment in itself.

Daldal Episode 3 & 4 Review – A Decent Watch!

Ohkay so, the story of Daldal has made quite some progress in these last two episodes. I like watching this drama for the fact that it shows the struggles, ambitions & dreams of regular people. It also shows how certain dreams can drive people to do things they wouldn’t do otherwise. This drama for sure highlights the fever that prevails in our society where younger generation thinks settling abroad is the only way to go & that will solve all of their dilemmas while completely overlooking the challenges & hardships one has to face while settling away from one’s family outside Pakistan!

Shuja & Hira got married & the very first thing Shuja conveyed to Hira was that he expects her to stand by him through thick & thin. He expects her to follow his lead & never question back. Shuja has clearly seen that Hira is not only madly in love with him but she is a bit too submissive, so he plans on exploiting this trait of hers to his advantage. Hira’s parents obviously did more than Sakina & even Shuja could imagine & they literally spoiled Hira’s in laws with so much stuff that they never would’ve thought of. It was sad that just in a few days Hira understood that things weren’t going to be easy & reality was much more different to the dreams that she & Shuja weaved about their married life together. The biggest shock that Hira got was when Shuja ordered her to convey his message to her parents. Hira never imagined that Shuja could say such a thing because all this while, they only spoke about living ‘together’ but now she could see that being with Hira was not his priority in the first place.

I like Hira’s character, like I liked the way she spoke to her mother about her in laws & then conveyed Shuja’s message to her. Hira never really said that it was Shuja who pushed her to do that, but she tried to make her mother aware of her in-law’s financial condition, only to convince her mother that letting Shuja settle in London was the only option left for his entire family. Hira tried to tell her mother how hard Sakina’s life was & how they had to do so much to keep things going. Despite being aware of their financial condition, Shaheen & Faraz accepted Shuja but they never would’ve thought that Shuja had an ulterior motive which he would put forth in such an early stages of the marriage.

Sakina is lucky that Shuja takes after her, because then she gets to share her frustrations with him. At least out of all her kids, Shuja is just as ambitious as Sakina that is why he bonds with her so well. I like the way they have shown that Kamran is just like his father, whereas Shuja is like his mother, who only wants more from life & doesn’t believe in settling for what is required to lead a simple & peaceful life.

I like Saniya’s character too. It was good to see Saniya & Fahad discussing their father’s means of income, like they both have grown up & they can differentiate between right & wrong. I think Saniya’s mother is going to suffer from some sort of disease for her husband to realize that no matter how much money you make, it will never benefit you if it isn’t clean. I am not too sure if there was a need to introduce or even add Tamana & Bilal’s track in the story, because it looks like an over-dosage of ‘mohallay ka pyaar’. Also they both are way too young for their track to have anything interesting about it. I really wish they had hired a guy a bit older to play the character of Bilal because going by the nature of his character, where he is shown standing up by his sister, also being Hira’s confidant & being someone who supports his mother emotionally, the actor is a total misfit due to his age, may be this is also another reason why seeing him getting candid with Tamanna left a bad taste in mouth!

Sadly, Hira’s dreams were crumbled when Shuja decided to make it clear to her what his dreams meant to him. It was sad that Sakina ignited the fire & stood there as a cold-hearted spectator when Shuja was dragging Hira out of the house. I really want to see what Shaheen & Faraz’s reaction would be. Shaheen does have a valid point, since she has spent her entire life without her husband being around, she exactly knows what Hira will go through if Shuja will go to abroad, that is why she isn’t in the favor of this plan but sadly, may be she’ll have to budge seeing Hira’s ordeal!

Overall, this drama is pretty basic but interesting. I will say that I like tuning to it because it is a very decent watch but somehow I am not warming up to the characters, like I am unable to put a finger on it but there is something missing from the characters, may be the depth or the insight or may be the director couldn’t really bring these characters to life because right now, they just seem like fictional characters showcasing the struggles of real-life characters but without much connection with it. I am definitely going to continue to watch this drama but I wish I feel something for the characters, like I do understand them & find them nicely written but the treatment is a bit off. All the actors have done a great job, Armeena Rana Khan is a very good choice for Hira’s character & she is doing justice to it. I wish I could say that about Zahid Ahmed too, yes, he is portraying Shuja’s role just the way it was required but I am not too sure about his acting. In the past, Zahid Ahmed has already showcased how fine he can be as an actor when he is effortless at acting, but now he seems to be putting too much of an effort to an extent of over-doing it & that really is hindering him from leaving an impact. Anyways, please share your thoughts about these last 2 episodes of Daldal.

Punjab Nahi Jaungi & Na Maloom Afraad 2 – Which One Is The Winner?

This year for the first time Pakistani filmmakers gave the cinema goers two exceptional films to choose from. Punjab Nahi Jaungi and Na Maloom Afraad 2 both boasted of an impressive cast and crew and cinematic experience with two completely different flavors. The producers and the team members involved in making these films went out of their way and worked hard to promote these films. The competition between these two films was fierce even before they were shown in cinemas and at the same time it was great to see actors supporting each other. At the end of the day, it really did look like everyone involved cared more about the success of the revival of the Pakistani film industry as opposed to looking after their own interests, which has been the most positive aspect of watching the film industry grow by leaps and bounds over the past few years.

Here is a comparison of both the films which will give the viewers a better insight into what to expect from them and in the end a verdict stating which film is most likely to win the viewers over.

The Plots & The Dialogues

The main plots of both these films are entirely different from each other. While Punjab Nahin Jaungi banks heavily on emotions and explores the dynamics of relationships when people from two different worlds come together, Na Maloom Afraad 2 relies entirely on comical events and situations to take the story forward and manages to entertain the viewers without delving into the emotional element of the relationship between the characters.

Punjab Nahi Jaungi’s dialogues have Khalil-ur-Rehman written all over them! Like many other scripts written by the writer, these dialogues revolve around the concept of love as perceived by different characters in the story and many of these dialogues also have a comical element which too is not devoid of meaning. Na Maloom Afraad 2’s dialogues are mostly fun and witty, meant for the common man but there are times when the humor gets too dirty. Having said that, overall, Na Maloom Afraad 2’s script is more crisp whereas Punjab Nahi Jaungi does have a few scenes which could have been chopped down. The emotional quotient of Punjab Nahi Jaungi’s script however outweighs that of Na Maloom Afraad 2’s story.

Punjab Nahi Jaungi & Na Maloom Afraad 2 - Which One Is The Winner?

The Characters & The Performances

The leading characters of NMA2 are the same as they were in the prequel with a slight difference in their class & appearances but the overall personalities of these characters are the same. While all these characters are enjoyable, you do not form an emotional bond with any of them since the film focuses more on the events instead of exploring the characters. Fahad Mustafa, Mohsin Abbas Haider and Javaid Sheikh have given solid performances and even though the female leads don’t have a big role to play in the story but they have done complete justice to their respective characters.

Punjab Nahi Jaungi on the other hand has a strong male lead and even with all his flaws Fawad Khagga manages to steal the show. Humayun Saeed’s impressive performance and screen presence makes up for the weaknesses in his character. Mehwish Hayat is effortless as Amal. There are however times when Urwa Hocane stands out more than Mehwish Hayat. Saleem Mairaj, Ahmed Ali Butt, Naveed Shehzad Saba Hameed and Sohail Ahmed have also given exceptional performances in the film.

Na Maloom Afraad is a male-centric film hence the female characters have completely been relegated to the background. Punjab Nahi Jaungi on the other hand focuses equally on the male and female leads. While Na Maloom Afraad 2 failed to distribute screen time justly among all the characters, Punjab Nahi Jaungi does complete justice to all its characters by giving them ample screen time and allowing them to contribute to the story. There is a good reason why Urwa Hocane chose to promote PNJ; she definitely got a fair chance to showcase her talent in Punjab Nahin Jaungi and was absolutely brilliant as Durdana.

The Direction & Cinematography

Both these films have been directed skillfully and the beautiful cinematography makes them both a visual treat. While Punjab Nahi Jaungi beautifully explores the raw beauty of Punjab and has an Eastern flavor, Na Maloom Afraad has been shot in Cape Town, South Africa and has a more modern feel to it. Nadeem Baig and Nabeel Qureshi yet again have proved that both of them are phenomenal directors who always manage to translate their ideas faultlessly on screen. Both these films are brilliantly executed and the directors have used all the modern technology available to their advantage.

Punjab Nahi Jaungi & Na Maloom Afraad 2 - Which One Is The Winner?

The Songs & Choreography

Punjab Nahi Jaungi is definitely a winner in this department because it has plenty of songs, all of them are beautifully composed, are different from one another and the way they have been shot and choreographed is impressive as well. Na Maloom Afraad 2’s songs completely fit in the situations and scenarios being shown at that time but the film does not have enough songs and not a single song which includes the female leads . Also, the songs have been used to add “masala” to the film unlike Punjab Nahi Jaungi which does not attempt to do so.

The Verdict

Both these films have far more strengths than weaknesses therefore they both have the potential of winning the hearts of the viewers and winning big at the box office. They offer something completely different from each other but both of them are entertaining and impressive in their own way. While Punjab Nahi Jaungi offers family drama with a filmy touch, Na Maloom Afraad 2 is the kind of film you would enjoy watching with friends. PNJ will give you catchy phrases and will make you laugh and cry at the same time. Na Maloom Afraad will make you laugh with tears rolling down your face! Most importantly, Na Maloom Afraad 2 and Punjab Nahi Jaungi deliver exactly what they promised and perhaps even more. Both these films will make you proud of how far Pakistani films have come over the years.

Yakeen Ka Safar Episode 21 Review – Brilliant!

Ohkay so, I am so glad to say that finally after such a long time I got to watch an episode of Yakeen Ka Safar that I loved. From direction to locations to dialogues to acting to situations, everything was just perfect & may be this is what the viewers were waiting for. Even though if we analyze, not much happened in this episode but the situation that was brought to the front had so much going on in it that it made this episode seem quite engaging irrespective of the slow pace.

It was amusing how Asfand deliberately eavesdropped on Zubiya, because he already has an idea that he has left quite an impression on Zubiya, so he didn’t mind what she said because this is something that even Gaiti has been telling him about. Asfand has actually started to realize that he is not only hard on Zubiya or other doctors but himself as well, that is why I felt in this episode, we saw a slight shift in his attitude where he was trying to be as candid & cheerful as possible.

So, all the doctors went for a medical camp & that’s where Zubiya got to showcase her potential as a doctor to not only Asfand but to the rest of the team as well. Their medical camp was a success & it ended on a high note but what made it even better was the sudden medical case that Zubiya had to deal with. I found it quite amazing that out of all the people, Asfand was there to see Zubiya’s moment of glory because he is the one who was always skeptical about her & her credibility as a doctor. I loved how calm Zubiya was & how relieved she felt when she tackled a complicated case all by herself that too in the most unfavorable conditions.

This episode showed us a different side to Asfand, a side which was now thinking more & more about Zubiya. What I loved is that Zubiya didn’t go out of the way to prove herself to Asfand, like she didn’t make an effort but only kept her entire focus on her work because she knew this is what Asfand expected from her. Now when Asfand got to spend some time with Zubiya, he not only saw how good she was as a doctor but he got a glimpse, an insight into her nature & character too. Who would’ve thought that just a small advice from Zubiya to the patient’s husband/child’s father would make such an impact on Asfand that he’d be taken back to Faryal & the bad memory that he had of her where she created a havoc over her bag getting ruined. I think this was the first step that Asfand unintentionally took towards Zubiya because now she was on his mind & for a very different reason. I liked this entire situation because of the way it was portrayed, like it showed that just by spending some time with Zubiya, Asfand was getting to know more & more about her & while it was happening, Zubiya had no idea that Asfand had his sights on her, he was reading her, trying to know her better.

Oh well, obviously things were meant to be shaky & that’s why, the moment they stepped back into the hospital, Asfand got a chance to complain about what Zubiya did & how. Asfand can’t help it, when he is in the hospital he wants nothing but the best & that is why, he didn’t let anything influence his feelings, not even the hard-work that Zubiya put in during the camp & he ended up giving Zubiya a piece of his mind. It was realistic because Asfand is not some immature teenager who would change his attitude because now he had a different perspective about someone, yes, he got to know Zubiya a little, he appreciated her hard-work & her nature but when it comes to work, he won’t budge & he made that clear.

Bahadur continued to pester Kharjista but what was note worthy is how Kharjista’s MIL has changed & it is only because of Zubiya. Who would’ve thought that Zubiya’s friendship will bring some sort of change in Kharjista’s life because for the first time, her MIL was supporting her & she was trying to protect her from Bahadur’s tantrums. I must say even though Rustam is a supporting character but I like seeing him because he is positive, a very decent character & the stark difference between him & Bahadur make him stand out a bit more. It is good that in Kharjista’s family, there is at least one person who sympathizes with her.

Overall, this episode was brilliant & I had a great time watching it. I must say I loved the on-screen chemistry between Ahad & Sajal, they both looked so good together as Asfand & Zubiya. Even though I wasn’t too keen on Rehan’s character but seeing the preview of the next episode had me laughing because I am loving how he is on Sheema’s case. Does this mean Rehan will finally become another Abbi for Zubiya, who after being lost for quite some while will now realize his mistakes & understand his responsibility towards her? I think with this change in Rehan’s character, I want to see more of him, like I want to see him taking control & changing things for the better. Sajal Ali & Ahad Raza Mir performed brilliantly in this episode & the rest of the cast did a great job in supporting them as well. I am still enjoying Mani’s scenes, he is good as Dr. Haroon & I like that he breaks the monotony of serious nature of the drama & brings in some lightheartedness. The director deserves full marks for directing this episode to perfection & for showcasing the beauty of Pakistan as well, those scenic locations were used to the fullest to give this episode a calming feel & it was brilliant. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Yakeen Ka Safar.

Alif Allah Aur Insaan Episode 20 Review – Interesting!

Ohkay so, this episode of Alif Allah Aur Insaan didn’t have much to offer except the bitter & sweet experiences that each of the characters are having at the moment. There were a few emotional bits that I enjoyed watching because it kept me connected to the story but in general I feel the story should move forward a bit more & for that I am looking forward to the next episode because the preview did promise some change.

Reena is flying high & she is not only dreaming but is getting to live her dream. It is actually quite interesting to note how the writer has shown Reena’s transition, from that God fearing beggar who was way too conscious about right & wrong to a courtesan who is not only proud of what she does but thinks she is unstoppable. Chaman Begum is the only person around Reena who is trying to keep her grounded but then who pays heed to a mere servant, in-spite of her being right? Reena now has everything that she ever wantedl fame, wealth & the attention of someone to such an extent that he is ready to do everything for her, so it makes her feel empowered & a bit too over confident that nothing could go wrong in her life. I think Nawazish Ali is going to be Reena’s undoing, even though he is giving her all the attention that she wants, but he will most certainly draw a line when he will get to know Reena’s true intentions. Where nothing else would go wrong for Reena, this might be something that will bring her back to the ground & make her realize that no one gets everything that they desire. Reena surely has started to think that she’d be able to get married to Nawazish, but time will tell!

Out of all the people stuck in this messy situation together, I feel the most for Basit & his family. Who would’ve thought that just because of a selfish person like Nazneen, a loving father will end up detesting & doubting his own son. Who would’ve thought that a focused & driven son like Basit would become a culprit in front of his own family. Who would’ve thought that only because of Nazneen’s immaturity, a father & son’s ideal relationship will get strained? Basit was his parents’ pride & joy, he was their support, they relied on him & now, only because of Nazneen, Qadir is avoiding Basit & Basit is facing the brunt for no good reason. Basit was at such a good place before Nazneen came into his life & now looking at how he is not himself anymore, it really makes me feel for him. I wish before firing Qadir Ali, Malik Hashmat had reanalyzed the entire situation to actually understand that it was Nazneen who was at fault & not Basit. That’s the difference between both Qadir & Hashmat as fathers, where one didn’t turn a blind eye to his son’s fault but the other conveniently put the entire blame on someone else & forgot about the hell his own daughter put him through. It was so sad seeing Qadir Ali speaking about Malikh Hashmat with so much of disappointment, like all that he ever knew was being loyal to him but seeing how Hashmat forgot about all that Qadir had done for him definitely hurt Qadir to no end. I am sure or let’s say I hope that Nazneen will pay the price for ruining a completely happy family & taking away the peace out of their lives.

Shahzeb has given up already, for the first time he not only felt jealous but complained to Nazneen too because he is still unable to understand that there’s nothing he could do that would change Nazneen’s behavior towards him. Even though I don’t appreciate Nazneen’s character because of what she put Basit’s family through, but I think she is at least right in her stance where she has clearly told Shahzeb what’s in her heart, like she is not being a hypocrite about it where she is posing to be his wife while having someone else in her heart & mind. Yes, Shazheb is a very decent man but then he did overlook the fact that Nazneen was not in this relationship & very selfishly he continued with the marriage, so now Nazneen is suffering herself but making him suffer too, which I think on her behalf seems fair!

I wish there was more to Shammo’s track, like I liked seeing him back, but I want to see more than just a few emotional flashbacks. Yes, one thing that does give me some hope is how his Ustad told him to take care of people around him & empower them so that they can do something for themselves, just the way he did with Shammo, may be this will encourage Shammo & change the course of his life. Till date, Shammo has made himself sufficient enough to support his people but now, he might think of doing something for others too! I must say after Qadir’s scenes, Shammo’s conversations with his family were my favorite too.

Overall, this episode was pretty decent & I had a good time watching it but I am left with wanting to see more at the moment. The pace of the drama has been its strength till this stage & I did expect things to slow down a bit so it’s understandable but still, it is good that they are showing that each & every character has something going on in their lives, but can we have a bit more please? Oh yes, two new characters were introduced too, the art students, Zymin & the guy (whose name I couldn’t pick) so I am looking forward to what they’re going to bring to the table. I must say, this drama has remained engaging & intense so far, I just can’t wait to see the rest of the story & I wish it ends on a similarly stronger note too. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Alif Allah Aur Insaan.

Amir Khan Buries the Hatchet with Anthony Joshua

0

Amir Khan blew up the internet the day he accused his wife of cheating on him with a fellow boxer Anthony Joshua. HIs wife called his claims absurd and Anthony also denied these allegations immediately. A day or two after the said tweet, Amir finally learnt that he was wrong. Amir has still decided to part ways from Faryal, but the fact that he was wrong about Anthony doesn’t change.

Yet, there didn’t seem to be any reconciliation between the two boxers until recently, when Anthony proved to be the bigger person and decided to call Amir Khan and clear the air. In an interview to TheSun, the Pakistani origin British boxer said,

He rang me, he spoke to me. Everything is cool.

I said: ‘look, everything was a misunderstanding and we just put a bag over it’

He goes: ‘I want be able to come over and shake your hand, champ.’

We want to keep that respect and love.

Birthday Girl: Momina Mustehsan!

0

25 years ago Momina Mustehsan was born in Lahore today. The singer, song-writer gained fame from her performances in Coke Studio. Her rendition of “Afreen Afreen” with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan became one of the most viewed coke studio songs and following her debut she became one of the most sought-out media personalities in Pakistan. There’s no doubt that very few people manage to receive this much fame at such a tender age.

Her first encounter with music happened in 2004, when she recorded her first cover of the song “The Blower’s Daughter”. She didn’t have any musical training then yet was praised a lot. Clearly, her voice is God-gifted.

We wish her a very Happy Birthday and wish her best for her future. Here’s her career-making and life changing performance of Afreen afreen:

First Look Of Malala Yousafzai’s Biopic

Malala Yousafzai is quite an enigma to the whole world since that unfortunate accident when she was shot alongwith her friends as the girls embarked on a school bus.

International media has been constantly giving attention to Malala’s story one way or the other. This time Bollywood has made a movie on Malala’s life called Gul Makai which was basically the name under which she blogged and made diaries about the happenings in her city.

The movie stars Reem Sheikh, who has worked in TV serials previously. It is produced by Anand Kumar. The cast includes late Om Puri, actress Divya Dutta, who is playing Malala’s mother, and Ragini Khanna.

Reem Shaikh has shared the poster of her movie, and her picture with a co star.

Pepsi Battle Of The Bands Episode 6 Review-Clear Finalists!

0

The episode started with Asrar’s performance. When Asrar starts singing goosebumps are meant tp appear on your skin, consequently a very entertaining Lajpaal Ali was crooned by the star and made a powerful start for the episode. Ayesha was today again back to the stressful hosting similar to her style in the first episode.

Pepsi Battle Of The Bands Episode 6 Review-Clear Finalists!

Judges were very attentive about everything that was going on and pointed out all the goods and bads. But what I feel they dragged the show maybe to complete the time frame because the verdict was loud and clear about who should go to the finals. But still they made the bottom two bands perform again which was needless as the performances already spoke for themselves.

Coming to the performances today. All three bands tried to be unique and experimental and two of them succeeded in their ventures too. The first finalist of season two Badnaam made it to the next episode straight away and even managed to get a standing ovation from the judges. They performed Bismillah Karan by Nadeem Abbas in a very different way. To be honest I am not a fan of soft folk music turning into metal notes but these guys didn’t sound wrong because they know what stage presence is and can make people hinder to their performance. Despite of not being a fan of such transitions I liked how they pulled off what they wanted to do and that made them reach the finals. Roots today went with a folk song Peera Ho and the performance was visibly bad. The vocals and music were not coordinated. The lead singer didn’t sound good either, maybe this was not the song for her. Judges were unhappy with the performance clearly. The last performance was by Kashmir. They made a rendition of Mendah Ishq Vi Toon by Pathanay Khan. The best thing they did was keeping the performance simple. It sounded soulful and it was my favourite in today’s episode. I found it better than Badnaam’s. But still Kashmir ended up in the danger zone which was so unnecessary since Roots didn’t deserve a second chance today. The final face off performances were not needed but still they made the remaining two bands perform again. Roots sang Pagal Sa for knockout which may have given them a better chance at surviving if they had performed it first hand. Kashmir again did a fabulous job with their original Soch and became the second band to reach the finals.

Team PNJ Talks About Some Unspoken Stuff!

0

Punjab Nahin Jaongi is out and the film is receiving good reviews and doing an excellent business all over the world. Team PNJ is busy promoting their film and they have attended every show. Sanam Baloch hosted the team on Eid’s second day show. Humayun Saeed, Urwa Hocane, Mehwish Hayat, Ahmed Ali Butt, Behroze Sabzwari, Safeena Sabzwari and director Nadeem Baig were the guests on the show.

Team PNJ Talks About Some Unspoken Stuff!

Mehwish revealed on the show that when the offer came to her for the role she accepted it at once though Mehwish was not the first choice for Amal’s character. The role was first offered to Iman Ali who also did some rehearsals but things didn’t work out later on. Urwa on the other hand was so overwhelmed by the chance of working with a huge team that she didn’t even read the script before saying yes. The film is also marking the debut of Behroze Sabzwari’s wife Safeena. Ahmed Ali Butt was finalized for the film even before Humayun Saeed as the makers believed he was the man for the role.

The team was all praises for the director Nadeem Baig. Behroze Sabzwari even went on to say that maybe there are directors in Pakistan who were no doubt legendary but the time now belongs to directors like Nadeem Baig and Nabeel Qureshi. Seems like a dig at Syed Noor who directed his son’s debut movie which blasted at the box office.

The team also did a singing competition. Mehwish showcased her singing skills again and again but still Ahmed Ali Butt and Urwa’s team won the competition.

The team spoke about all these things in a candid mood and the movie is also making records for the Pakistani film industry!

Coke Studio Pays Truibute To Amir Zaki

Coke Studio season 10 remembers Amir Zaki in a poignant performance in its latest episode. The legend has passed away earlier this year and “naina moray” captures the essence of his  art beautifully. It has an amalgamation of new and old musical instruments weaved together in a very coordinated way.

“Naina Moray” is directed by Jaffer Zaidi, and the vocals are by Javed Bashir and Akbar Ali. It also includes glimpses of Amir Zaki solo on his guitar. The song is about heartbreak and pain and sadly, this is the last of Amir Zaki that we will ever see.

Be Inteha Episodes 1-21 Review – No Baddies Yet!

0

So I sat on this drama like a mother hen does on her eggs. Waiting for it to hatch (read end) because with the never failing Midas touch that I seem to have with every drama I review derailing off the tracks the minute I have posted my review – I did not want this one to lose its charm. But then I remembered what I read once about how a mother bird teaches its baby to fly by throwing it out of its nest with the confidence that it will spread its wings and fly (not sure if that is true but the thought stuck with me anyway!). And I decided to switch to mama bird and post this review hoping the drama will continue to be entertaining.

A Six Sigma Plus production, Be Inteha is directed by Qasim Ali Mureed and written by Rida Bilal. The drama airs every Wednesday on Urdu 1 and has aired 22 episodes so far. Six Sigma Plus is quite a popular name but the writer and director rang no bells. When I saw that the lead couple in the promos is Sami Khan and Naveen Waqar, I was not too tempted to watch the drama either until I heard the OST and nothing reels me in quicker than a catchy OST.

Be Inteha Episodes 1-21 Review - No Baddies Yet!

Be Inteha revolves around three families. We are introduced to Bisma (Naveen Waqar),her sister Zara (Ghana Ali) and their parents Waseem Abbas and Shaista Jabeen. Bisma is engaged to be married to Ali (Faris Shafi) whose parents have been close and long term friends of Bisma’s parents. The third family comprises Sherry (Sami Khan) and his mother Rubina Ashraf. While Bisma is not in love with Ali she is not against the upcoming marriage either. There is a restlessness about her but she does not seem to be moping around or opposing the marriage either. Until Sherry spots her while out with his mother shopping and it is a classic case of love at first sight. He then pulls out all the stops to get married to Bisma.

Now I am in a bit of a quandary here. If I go further into the story, then I give away everything that follows and while there is nothing in this story that would excite Sherlock Holmes – it is a very pleasant watch. Let me focus instead on what appeals to me in this drama:

Simple yet not too simple
For those of you who have often read my reviews, you would have understood this much about me by now that I seem to want to happily fish out dramas that are not too popular, marketing wise nor viewer wise and end up watching them. That strategy, or preference, sometimes fails me and I lose interest in the drama or keep watching while tearing my hair out but sometimes I too am pleasantly surprised like I was with dramas such as Tum Yaad Aye, Sun Yaara and Tumhare Hain to name a few. I do not mind the predictability, actually welcome it and while this drama seems like a simple love story too it has a few surprises and the manner in which the story is presented keeps my interest alive.

Interesting dialogue(s)
I was on the brink of doing a review after watching the first five episodes when Sherry said about how he would love to say he would give his life for Bisma except that he does not want to because he wants to live his life with her, a long life, rather than just giving it up. That line really caught my attention for man, how many times have we heard that line in dramas and movies about how the ‘hero’ declares he would lay his life down for the ‘heroine’ and we all say, this! He loves her no doubt! Umm. But how refreshing and interesting was it to hear him word his sentiments differently and still have me hand out a similar verdict :) Which brings me to another thing that stood out in this drama and I loved.

Cliché confrontations
What may that be, you wonder? So imagine a cliché coming running at you. Same scenes, same lines done to death. You nod your head, reach for your phone, mentally already saying the lines you expect to be said because that is what happens in each drama, right? For instance, when the about to be bride suddenly does a runner and the sister is offered as the ‘replacement’ bride. Where the mum in law dishes out ‘taana pe taana’ because the bahu dared to express her feelings to her parents about her choice of groom. Where spurned men and women throw ‘forgive and forget’ and ‘move on’ into the garbage can and sink their teeth into the so not interested ‘spurner’ like a dog with a bone and will just not let go. You get the idea. This drama brings you ‘that’ close to the cliché and then you gasp softly, wait what? Nicely done!

Beautiful & realistic relationships
While there were moments that seemed to be borderline sugar overkill, they managed to step back just in time. While I am all for a wonderful love story, I have begun to realize that I really like observing how all other relationships play out too. Zara and Bisma’s relationship, Bisma’s relationship with her mother in law, the relationship between Bisma and Ali’s families, Bisma’s relationship with her father – they were all so interesting to watch. Yes, I had a few moments when I thought does this really happen and well, while mostly it does not or at least not in the dramas we usually see, it is not really that hard to imagine that such emotions and relationships exist. I love dramas that are close to reality – minus the harsh realities that is.

Visually pleasing & OST
I watched this drama online and the picture quality was great which really makes an impact on my decision to watch a drama or not. The OST is so addictive and in my search to download it, I happened to come across some comments that suggested it was an adapted/modified version of a song sung by the band Soch. I have no complaints though and prefer this OST version.

Sami Khan
I know I should say amazing acting and chemistry by everyone in this drama. And yes, Waseem Abbas, Ghana Ali, Naveen Waqar and Faris Shafi all did a decent job but Sami Khan is hands down the reason why this drama worked for me performance wise. I loved how he portrayed Sherry’s character, the brooding, emotional man in love and how he tries to convince Bisma he loves her. Hanging outside her college, otherwise creepy or stalkerish in the real world, was all done so well that I really enjoyed it.

Be Inteha Episodes 1-21 Review - No Baddies Yet!

I have huge issues with introduction of new characters after ten episodes or so of a drama have aired. It is as if I have emotionally become involved and understood the people so far and suddenly you throw in a medley of new characters and more often than not – does not work for me. Mann Mayal and Intizar are two examples that suddenly spring to mind and that is why I am a bit wary of Be Inteha now for Agha Ali and Saba Hameed have made an appearance a couple of episodes ago and I am still waiting to see how I feel about it.

I purposely did not dwell on any details in this overview for those of you who may be tempted to watch this drama. Agha Ali is the misunderstood and egoistic son of a rich socialite mum who wronged his father (no disrespect to real life comparisons of this situation but this scenario is fast becoming the ‘doosri shaadi’ of our dramas nowadays). The story has a bit of a predictable turn now and I can only hope that the cast is able to do justice and keep our interest intact till the end. I would not classify this as a guilty pleasure, rather as I am discovering there is a category somewhere between a guilty pleasure and a must watch and Be Inteha sits very comfortably in that category.

The drama does not offer something truly unique and my beef with that? None – for I reckon we have had quite a bit of it over the past couple of days. Sorry, I could not resist haha. Eid Mubarak! Would love to hear if any of you have enjoyed watching Be Inteha as much as I have, or the sweetness got too much for you, or you just love the OST and have had it on repeat for a while 

Na Maloom Afraad 2 – Film Review

Writer: Nabeel Qureshi & Fizza Ali Meerza
Director: Nabeel Qureshi
Producers: Fizza Ali Meerza & Mehdi Ali
Cast: Fahad Mustafa, Mohsin Abbas Haider, Javaid Sheikh, Hania Aamir, Urwa Hocane, Marina Khan, Saleem Mairaj, Nayyar Ejaz & others.

I am going to be honest, I did not have high expectations from this film especially because of the trailers more than anything else. I was definitely not expecting to be thoroughly entertained and did not expect to laugh hysterically for most part of the film. The trailers and even the songs did not do justice to a film which has a solid screenplay and is shot so well that at times you forget you are watching a Pakistani film. This film definitely has more highs than lows. The characterizations of the three main protagonists are brilliant, their interactions (for the most part) enjoyable and some of the dialogues are remarkably witty. Fahad Mustafa, Mohsin Abbas Haider and Javaid Sheikh own their characters completely right from the get-go and in this sequel are more improved versions of their respective roles. Shakeel’s (Javaid Sheikh) is definitely the most enjoyable one among them all.

What I absolutely loved about this film was that it is a side-splitting, all out comedy. The writers do not hold back at all but at times they even go overboard. One aspect of the film however which did not appeal to me and which wasn’t even needed was the excessive use of foul language, the F word (although muted) is used number of times and there are plenty of other scenes in which the crass jokes are added unnecessarily. The toilet humor makes you cringe a couple of time but there are plenty of scenes in which it is tolerable and even hilarious!

The plot of the film is also unpredictable, the writers couldn’t have given the viewers a more solid entertaining plot. It is however not logical; since this is a comedy film therefore I feel it is unfair to decipher every tiny detail based on logic! I must say that it is one of those very few Pakistani films which has a solid and well thought out storyline which went well with the theme of the film. Like other films written by Nabeel Qureshi and Fizza Ali Meerza, this one too highlights the trials and tribulations of the common man residing in Karachi in particular but the script on the whole will be relatable for any Pakistani viewer since the issues faced by every Pakistani are the same. It addresses class difference and much more. Watching Marina Khan act on the big screen after a long time was an absolutely delight. Nayyar Ejaz is brilliant as Sultan al- Baklawa; it has to be one of his best performances. Saleem Mairaj and the actor playing his companion were absolutely brilliant in their respective roles.

Na Maloom Afraad 2 - Film Review

Na Maloom Afraad 2 can easily be termed as a film which is fun and also an impressively “stylish” film which is visually stunning as a whole. The biggest shortcoming of the film is that it failed to include the talented female leads in the story effectively. Like Actor In Law and Na Maloom Afraad, this one too relegates the female characters in the background and does not really incorporate their characters properly in the story. This is especially sad because Hania Aamir and Urwa Hocane both have given remarkable performances even though their characters have not been explored properly. Both the actresses were even excluded from the songs, which I felt was rather unfair because they deserved more screen time. Instead of showing Sadaf Kanwal’s item number, they could have been part of a song which took the story forward in some way. The song “Chal Hug Ley” was also a disappointment because the girls in bikinis could not dance and their bare bodies were supposed to be the only attraction. I definitely expected better from a director like Nabeel Qureshi at least in this context. Urwa Hocane dances so well and Hania Aamir I am certain could have shown her dance moves too if she was given a chance to do so. The songs and the way they were shot was the biggest disappointment in the film.

Overall, I would give this film 3.5 out 5 and recommend it to anyone who does not mind a few jokes which are in bad taste. This film will make you laugh especially if you watch it with a friend. Even with a few shortcomings, you will leave the cinema hall happy because NMA 2 is definitely an entertaining film. The styling, makeovers and the cinematography give this movie a unique and modern look. Nabeel Qureshi’s creativity reflects in many scenes and I especially liked the scene which came before intermission. The background score is also highly impressive. This film has a completely different flavor from PNJ therefore if you enjoyed one, you should definitely watch the other. Those of you, who like me found the gold commode repulsive should go watch this film as well, you won’t be disappointed! There is more to that commode than meets the eye ;)

Best Dressed Pakistani Celebrities on Eid-ul-Azha 2017 (Day 1)

Just like every other year, this year too Pakistani celebrities celebrated Eid-ul-Azha with tons of excitement even though some of these celebrities have been constantly busy with their projects and some of them were not even in Pakistan on Eid day. Eid of course isn’t all about getting dressed but looking your best is part of the festivities since it is also a good way to show just how special this occasion is for Muslims. Most of these celebrities wore trendy traditional outfits which were well-suited for this festive and joyous occasion. Ghararas, both simple and those decorated with detailed embroidery were seen as the major trend on this first day of Eid.

Although all the celebrities looked wonderful on Eid, there were some who stood out more than others. Here is a list of the best dressed celebrities on Eid-ul-Azha day one.

Sanam Baloch

Sanam Baloch’s look has festive and chic written all over it. Sanam Baloch is carrying this heavily embroidered dress with grace. The matching jhumkas and those heels are complimenting her beautiful dress. The fact that she kept her hairstyle simple gives her a soft look. Sanam Baloch’s look had to be the best one this Eid, also because it isn’t very often that she gets dressed up like this unless it is a very special occasion.

Best Dressed Pakistani Celebrities on Eid-ul-Azha 2017 (Day 1)

Aiman Khan

Aiman Khan looked gorgeous in this formal gharara with the perfect top to match it. The color of her outfit isn’t only pretty but it also suits her a lot and is meant for this season. She kept her make-up subtle which added more elegance to her overall look. Aiman Khan decided to wear her favorite designer Maria B.’s outfit and nailed the look.

Sumbul Iqbal

Many female celebrities wore Rangja’s outfits this Eid but Sumbul Iqbal’s outfit from their collection was the best. This color combination is always a winner but it looks even more pretty if the designing is right on point. Sumbul Iqbal completed her look with the perfect make-up, a simple hairstyle and beautiful jhumkas. She looks colorful and stylish, which is the perfect combo for Eid day!

Ayeza Khan

Ayeza Khan posted different pictures of herself on Eid in various outfits but this was the dress she “officially” wore for her family picture. The dress is simple yet it is designed in such a way that it gives her the formal look which is perfect for Eid. Her beautiful mehndi also stands out more because the dress is not heavy or colorful. The fact that Hoorain and Ayeza were twinning on Eid day, made the overall look even more cute.

Kubra Khan

Beautiful outfit, colorful earrings, a casual hairstyle and the perfect smile make Kubra Khan’s look for Eid one of the best. The combination of a light colored dress and colorful earrings is our favorite part of her overall look.

Maya Ali

Maya Ali was seen in a festive look after quite some time and there couldn’t have been a more perfect occasion than Eid for rocking this look. Maya Ali’s outfit was one of the most vibrant ones on Eid and the attention to detail is impressive. Maya Ali’s dress has her name written on it – like literally! Notice the end of tussles? It says Maya Ali! The designer Mohsin Naveed Ranjha deserves credit for coming up with something unique which also looks good.

Hareem Farooque

Hareem Farooque was in Thailand on day 1 of Eid but that did not stop her from getting dressed up and celebrating the occasion. Hareem Farooque’s dress has the perfect ethnic look with traditional embroidery. The color of her dress is also different and it looks good on her.

Sanam Chaudhry

Everything about Sanam Chaudhry’s Eid look is just plain perfect. Her dress, those bangles, the earrings and her make-up couldn’t have been better. The color combination is also standing out more than any other. Although Sanam wore a light color but the detailing on her outfit gives her an impressive festive look.

The ever humble Mahira Khan was quick to answer her ‘Bin Roye’ co-star:

Boxer Amir Khan can Lose Half his Fortune in Divorce Case!

Following up with the Kardashian drama is easier than following up the Amir-Faryal drama. These two are quite a pair, to say the least. From the public break up to hopes of a patch up to a final goodbye to having a second baby on the way, they have kept everyone on their toes but honestly speaking, they just lost respect of themselves in the public eye because of it all. But the silver lining is that they did remind us the importance of private conversations, and privacy. It’s however sad that these two still have to learn how to dial each other’s private phone number.

Boxer Amir Khan can Lose Half his Fortune in Divorce Case!

Anyway, now that the talks of divorce between the couple are in the air, we are here to inform you that Amir Khan can lose half of his entire fortune in the divorce case. Faryal will be getting half of his £25 million fortune!

Solicitor Harold Walker told the Daily Star,

His lawyers might argue that his cash is tied up in family businesses and investments but that will make no difference apart from to draw the process out.

He will be told to break-up any firms and sell any investments to make sure he can pay the money into court.

Furthermore, Amir could lose the custody of his daughter and the unborn child.

Mohabbat Tumse Nafrat Hei Episode 22 Review – Good One!

This drama has finally picked up pace and it seems like the viewers will probably get to see few interesting and happening episodes as the drama is headed towards a climax worth looking forward to. There are still a lot of questions which need to be answered and it is impossible to predict how the drama will end since there is still a chance that Waqar can explain to everyone what actually happened. This will however open a new Pandora box but it will turn things around for Waqar and Maheen in particular.

The opening scene of tonight’s episode showed Neelam breaking the news of Waqar and Maheen’s marriage to Gulrez. Although Gulrez’s initial reaction was that of shock but later on he proved that he was much more brave than everyone else around him. There was a time when I did not feel anything for Gulrez but watching him support Waqar and Maheen like that was heart-rending. Watching Waqar and Maheen having a normal conversation for a change was the highlight of tonight’s episode. This was the first time that these two did not argue with one another but actually talked about things which mattered. Imran Abbas and Ayeza Khan’s on-screen chemistry and the way these scenes were shot was perfect. Both these actors looked great and acted superbly too. It was also good to watch them discussing Gulrez.

Mohabbat Tumse Nafrat Hei Episode 22 Review - Good One!

Ami Begum played a major role in making Waqar confess his love for Maheen. If it weren’t for her, this marriage wouldn’t be taking place at this point. I have to say that Ami Begum redeemed herself tonight and I have forgiven her for every silly game she played in the previous few episodes. The second scene of this episode looked like an extension of the scene that was shown in the 2nd episode in which these gang members took Gulrez’s car away. Ali made an appearance after a long time tonight and I have to say I missed his character. Even though he does not have a big role to play in the story but he was introduced as an important character therefore I feel he should have been part of every other episode if not all the episodes.

Jia is all set to take revenge from Aurangzeb and the preview of the next episode suggested that Maheen’s declaration of love for Waqar will prove to be the reason why she finally goes ahead with her plan. Jia has always been shown as a negative person therefore it never came as a surprise that she planned something like this. It is however difficult to understand why no one ever suspected her since she can be very transparent at times. Jia’s father is completely out of the picture for now which basically goes to show that there are too many characters in the play but the screen time has not been distributed properly among all of them.

Overall, this was an interesting episode of Mohabbat Tumse Nafrat Hei which gave me a reason to look forward to what this show has in store for us in the coming weeks. I hope things continue to move forward with the same pace right till the end.

Coke Studio Season 10 Episode 4 Review-Matlab Kuch Bhi?!!

0

Matlab Kuch Bhi? Yes those are my thoughts on episode 4. What Coke Studio is trying to achieve this season is a very important question. The episode features Javed Bashir, Akbar Ali, Amir Zaki, Qurutulain Baloch, Farhan Saeed, Ali Zafar, Danyal Zafar, Ali Hamza and Nirmal Roy. Okay lets get into how Coke Studio is killing all the expectations. Here is the song by song breakdown:

Naina Moray:

The only song worth mentioning in Coke Studio. A very good combo of singers. Music director is Jaffer Zaidi. Both Akbar Ali and Javed Bashir know their crafts and crooned the beautiful classical melody with utmost talent and professionalism. Javed Bashir is very underrated as compared to the talent that this man has and he showed the same talent in this episode too. Akbar Ali also matched the perfection and made this song a great listen. It was Amir Zaki’s last performance and the excellence of his skills was clearly visible. The only good song today.

Latthay Di Chaadar:

Music director is Shani Arshad. Another remake which shouldn’t have been remade. So the song started by soft notes of Farhan Saeed and I thought this one will be nice since QB is also here. But then I realized NO, this is average but then QB started singing and the left over expectations fell into a pit and shattered into a million pieces. Why did they turned Latthay Di Chaadar which is meant to be a tune to which people dance into some mourning symphony. QB was stressing too much on the words and making them sound thick that they became unbearable. A very bad rendition. Didn’t thought I would say this but Farhan was better than QB.

Julie:

Ye sabb mil karr humko pagal bana rahe hain! The only thought for this song. Ali has done Rockstar too and it was good but Julie a big no. The lyrics were tacky and the song was so bad that Ali took off his jacket in order to distract the audience. The song has Danyal specially mentioned and for what kyunki barray bhaiyya gaa rahe hain. There are so many talented musicians in Coke Studio who will never be mentioned like this. But Danyal will play guitar standing alongside the lead singer with his name specially mentioned. Parchi all the way! Music director for this one is also Shani Arshad and this song really made me go Matlab Kuch Bhi!!

Jindjaani:

The singers are Ali Hamza and Nirmal Roy. Music director is Ali Hamza. This one was average. Not a bad one but not extraordinary either. Ali Hamza knows what he is doing and Nirmal’s vocals are beautiful too. The only problem I found with this one was it didn’t sound new to me. It felt like Paar Chanaa De was being played with slightly changed music. The combination of singers was good though.

Punjab Nahi Jaungi – Film Review

Writer: Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar
Director: Nadeem Baig
Producers: Salman Iqbal, Humayun Saeed, Jerjees Seja, Shahzad Nasib
Cast: Humayun Saeed, Mehwish Hayat, Urwa Hocane, Sohail Ahmed, Saba Hameed, Waseem Abbas, Naveed Shehzad, Behroze Sabzwari, Ahmed Ali Butt, Safina Behroze & others.

When you go to watch a film you have enormous expectations from, you rarely leave the cinema hall completely satisfied but that was most certainly not the case with Punjab Nahi Jaungi. On the contrary this film manages to strike a chord right from the beginning till the very end. Beautiful cinematography, flawless direction, amazing performances by all the actors involved, Humayun Saeed and Mehwish Hayat’s sizzling on screen chemistry and most importantly Humayun Saeed’s screen presence as a hero who isn’t flawless but extremely likeable makes this film a must watch! With this film Nadeem Baig proved yet again that no one can handle a romantic story in which emotions reign supreme better than him. Humayun Saeed and Mehwish Hayat proved that they have unmatchable on screen chemistry and their scenes together are an absolute treat to watch even when at times their characters and interactions make you question the logic behind them. Most importantly with this film Humayun Saeed proved that he is here to stay! Humayun Saeed is beyond impressive as Fawad Khaaga; his performance gives his character the edge it needed to win the hearts of the viewers.

Punjab Nahi Jaungi has the perfect opening, the perfect ending and although whatever is in between isn’t faultless but it is most certainly a really good effort by the team to provide the cinema-goers with wholesome entertainment. Punjab Nahi Jaungi’s real success lies in the fact that it can make the viewers laugh and cry at the same time! You know a film has managed to win the hearts of the viewers when they laugh at the jokes and there is dead silence in the cinema hall when the story takes an emotional turn.

Mehwish Hayat looks stunning throughout the film; the make-up artists, stylists, her designer and the director of photography have put in a lot of effort to make sure that she looks flawless all the way through. Her character (Amal) and acting also gives you Anmol vibes at times. Fawad Khagga and Shafique Ahmed’s (Ahmed Ali Butt) bromance and Ahmed Ali Butt’s dance moves are the highlight of the film. Sohail Ahmed is impressive as Mahtab Khagga, his comic timing is perfect. Urwa Hocane’s splendid performance was definitely the most pleasant surprise in the film. I am glad that unlike Na Maloom Afraad she got a chance to showcase her acting skills in this film and excelled in it. Saba Hameed, Behroze Sabzwari, Safina Behroze and Naveed Shehzad outshine in their respective roles. Azfar Rehman’s character (Vasay) doesn’t have a lot to offer and I feel this character got more screen time than it deserved. Shafique on the other hand should have been given a little more screen time.

Punjab Nahi Jaungi - Film Review

This film also has some memorable songs to its credit and for me 24/7 Lak Hilna and Ranjha were clear winners because they were a complete package; beautifully composed, written, sung and choreographed. Although 24/7 Lak Hilna looked like an item number but it was definitely not one. It was also the only song in which Humayun Saeed and Mehwish Hayat actually danced.

Punjab Nahi Jaungi’s script has Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar written all over it! Those of you who are watching Tau Dil Ka Kya Hua and Mohabbat Tumse Nafrat Hei might find a lot of similarities in some of the scenarios and even the dialogues. Also, the basic philosophy behind the script is the same as both these dramas. Nadeem Baig, Humayun Saeed and Ahmed Ali Butt in particular make this film a must watch. Those of you who fell in love with Mohid will definitely fall in love with Fawad Khagga too, not because he is perfect like Mohid but because Humayun Saeed has translated this character so well on the big screen.

I would give this film 4 out of 5. The only aspect of the film which is slightly annoying is the excessive use of English language especially from characters which would normally not speak in English. Some of the words used are complicated and seem strange coming from people like Durdana and even Mahtab Khagga. Fawad Khagga’s English however will give you tons to laugh about and few phrases which you will enjoy repeating over and over again if you are going to watch this film with a group of friends!

A piece of advice for anyone who is planning to watch this film – make sure you buy all the popcorn and drinks you want beforehand because the intermission comes at such a time that you would not want to leave your seats! There are films you actually need a break from and you go out to get fresh air if nothing else during the intermission because you are not looking forward to watching the rest of the film and then there are films like this one which manage to hold your interest right till the end.

Punjab Nahi Jaungi deserves to be watched on the big screen therefore don’t wait for it to air on television, you will never enjoy it fully if you don’t watch it in the cinema. It is definitely a paisa wasool film so go watch it!

O Rangreza Episode 6 Review – Reality Check!

Ohkay so, the story took a massive twist with this episode, it was intense but real. Who would’ve thought that this drama would not only be a breath of fresh air but it will question the chauvinist mentality so openly. The way the message that has been embedded in this story is coming across, is not only interesting but it is something that actually does make you ponder about what the writer is trying to tell here. I love these sort of dramas where the message gets relayed without things becoming too preachy & the fact that the writer took the responsibility to show us the other side of the picture is just brilliant!

Sassi never would’ve imagined that the father that she idealized all her life would turn out to be the biggest hindrance in achieving her dreams. It was so obvious that she saw everything through Khayyam’s eyes & that is why, she ended up shaping her character in a way that she assumed would be approved by her father. Sadly, now when she is forced to wake up & smell the coffee that her father Khayyam Sani is not as unconventional & is just as typical as other men, she is shaken to the core because for her, it is like she is being told to re-live her entire life with different set of standards, different mind-set, different dreams, different aspirations, different ideology – only because the man she followed is not happy with her choices!

Finally, it felt like luck was on Qasim’s side & he was brought back into Mumtaz’s house, despite not wanting to. It was good to see the considerate side of Khayyam because he genuinely seemed concerned for Qasim & couldn’t really put two & two together as to why was Qasim sleeping at his shop. I love the subtlety of Qasim’s character, like he is always just so engrossed in his own thoughts but is still far more aware of what those who love him, expect from him. Qasim can’t take Sassi out of his mind but just because Mumtaz has said no, he can’t think beyond that & he wouldn’t even try to change or influence Mumtaz’s decision. I loved when Qasim came back he was expecting a warm welcome from Sassi, but just when he didn’t get it, he was clearly upset. It is interesting how Sassi brings out this different side to Qasim without him even realizing because he is always just so calm & composed but when it comes to Sassi or anything related to her, it seems that he is under a spell; with no control over himself & his emotions whatsoever. The way Qasim snapped at his colleague went to show that he just can not contain his emotions if there’s anything that has to do with Sassi, yes, when he is in front of her, he really can be calm without showing her the signs of the storm brewing inside him!

So, Sassi finally got to channel out her anger & her frustration because she thought it was a high time she should tell Khayyam what was bothering her & why. It was so realistic that Sassi targeted Sonia Jahan’s photos in Khayyam’s room because she knew they were like his Achilles Heel & it would hurt him the most, probably just as much as she was hurt. Khayyam actually thought that he would play the typical dad with no-means-no attitude & it will work on Sassi but she got him familiar with the truth in such a way that even Khayyam couldn’t imagine. I loved the fact that Sassi didn’t tell Khayyam directly that his fixation with Sonia Jahan was what got her fascinated by her personality too, she in fact brought in Mumtaz to tell her father about his double standards. Every single word that came from Sassi was based on the bitter reality that Khayyam himself was oblivious of & probably the one who is so good with words was left speechless because the girl standing in front of him, confronting him, looking him into his eyes had a valid point & there was nothing that Khayyam could say that would change the truth that he was a hypocrite.

To be honest, I actually thought that Mumtaz would understand Sassi, especially after the stand that she took for her but the way Mumtaz went to console Khayyam saying that he wasn’t at fault made me feel like I lost quite a lot of sympathy that I had for her because honestly, she has inflicted this upon herself & since she doesn’t see anything wrong with the way Khayyam treats her, then there’s no point in seeing her as a victim. I feel if Khayyam is a wrong influence on Sassi, then so is Mumtaz because she showed Sassi what a wife should not be, how a mother should not be & most importantly, what a woman should not be – hopeless, clueless, with no control & zero self-respect. I always thought that it was Khayyam who influenced Sassi’s behavior towards his mother, which actually is true but then seeing how Mumtaz behaved I felt she herself has left quite an impression on Sassi, an impression enough to teach her that no woman should become a doormat like Mumtaz. So, this is what Sassi conveyed to Khayyam & even Mumtaz but if only they both could understand their faults in stead of blaming it on someone else like Khayyam did or brushing it under the carpet like Mumtaz!

Qasim finally tried to have a conversation with Sassi but since she is so not in the right place emotionally, she even saw Khayyam’s shadow in Qasim. Who would’ve thought that the girl who wanted her partner to be like Khayyam & the one who didn’t see Qasim as a man enough like Khayyam, would be so shaken by what she experienced that just the faintest similarity that too being a result of her own assumption would make her turn away from someone like Qasim who has been her support for such a long time. Sassi really is not getting what turn her life has taken & she is leaving no stone unturned to make it obvious to everyone around her, thanks to Khayyam that along with so many other things, he taught her consistency as well!

I so wanted to know what Khayyam’s answer to Sonia Jahan’s question was but they left it for now, however even after hearing so much from Sassi, Khayyam just stood there looking at Sonia’s performance without batting an eyelid as if this was his birth right & it had nothing to be ashamed of. I actually felt like banging Khayyam’s head on the wall when he once again blamed Mumtaz for turning Sassi away from him, like seriously, this man is literally blind to his own faults, to such an extent that even after so much has happened & the havoc that Sassi has created, all he could deduce out of it was that everything happened because of Mumtaz & she turned Sassi against him? It is shocking that even such a clear cut reality check from Sassi couldn’t make him think about his own faults, but I really wish he goes through something so huge that would actually make him realize how wrong he has been, probably all his life!

Overall, this episode was brilliant, I just couldn’t keep my eyes off the screen as the performances were outstanding & everything was just so intense. Sajal Ali should actually take a bow for breathing life, heart & soul into Sassi’s character & for conveying her with so much of perfection & clarity. It is definitely not easy playing a character like Sassi but Sajal has shown what she is capable of. Noman Ejaz, Irsa Ghazal & Bilal Abbas Khan have given such amazing performances that seeing them on screen is nothing less than a treat. O, so looks like Sonia Jahan has a secret that she is hiding which will probably be revealed in the next episode – another chapter that would unveil the double standards of men I believe, so looking forward to it. Absolutely loving this drama so far & just can not wait for the next episode already. Please share your thoughts about this episode of O Rangreza.

Yaar e Bewafa Episode 9 Review – Realistic Portrayal!

Ohkay so, this episode of Yaar e Bewafa took the story forward effortlessly but quite slowly as well, however the slow pace of the drama doesn’t seem to be an issue because the way things are unfolding is quite realistic. They have given us enough time to get to know the characters & form an opinion about them accordingly, which is an added detail & actually makes everyone’s journey quite interesting.

So, Fizza chose to go to her father’s place but then she also told her mother that she would never approve of her father’s interference in her divorce. I think if not anyone else, Fizza should’ve known her father better that he is not someone who would sit quietly & miss the chance of showcasing his power & authority. Also, I think it was quite immature of Fizza to ‘assume’ that as per her wishes, her father would mind his own business & wouldn’t try to break this relationship which he was never in the favor of right from the beginning.

I think in this ugly divorce Zaid has proved that he loved Fizza unconditionally, that is why even after going through so much, he is trying to do everything to stop Fizza from leaving. It really showed that in this relationship, Fizza was at the receiving end & Zaid was always the one who happily sacrificed & compromised for Fizza’s sake as he loved her. Zaid wasn’t the one who was keen on going to Australia but he still went ahead with the plan as Fizza wanted it. Now it looks like Zaid will also give up on this relationship because he knows that this is also something that Fizza wants.

I felt really bad for Zaid when I saw him thinking about all the things that Ahmed said & told him about his grandfather’s house. I think this is going to be the only deciding factor which would convince Zaid that he should let go of Fizza & Ahmed because he already started feeling like a failure thinking that he couldn’t provide the ‘comfort’ & the ‘luxury’ to his wife & son that they deserved. It was actually quite upsetting to see such a doting husband & a father like Zaid being forced to believe that he fell short of his responsibilities whereas Zaid never in the first place promised big things to Fizza, he only offered her love & she chose to settle for it for the time being, till she got over it!

Oh well, things are stagnant as smelly water in Amna & Saleem’s track. The only thing that changed was that Saleem’s diseased relapsed & now in stead of contacting the doctors, he was going to invest his time & energy on some Baba Jees. I am wondering if there’s one ‘right’ thing that Saleem has done in his drama-life so far? I am tired of seeing Amna putting up with Saleem’s behavior, I really wish he goes out of her life so that we get to see her life shaping for the better!

Overall, this episode was interesting, slow but yes interesting. I like the simple characters & simple situations because it shows that a simple story can still keep the interest of the viewers intact if it is tackled properly. All the actors have done an amazing job undoubtely & so have the writer & the director for bringing such an emotionally touching story to us in such a simple yet unique way. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Yaar e Bewafa.
