Ehd-e-Wafa was one of the most-watched dramas of this year. It gained massive popularity not only on a national level but also on an international level. It was a completely different story with a strong cast.Â
The young and talented actors of Pakistan television industry Ahad, Osman, Ahmed, Wahaj, Zara, Alizeh, and Hajra were the lead characters of the drama and they nailed it! Â
The last episode of Ehd-e-Wafa was emotional, entertaining and unpredictable. The drama taught us many things that will be remembered for a long time. Many people criticized the drama for showing a negative image of our politicians, while there were millions of people who loved every single bit of it.Â
The last episode of Ehd-e-Wafa made everyone cry over emotional scenes. People took their social media accounts and expressed their emotions. They were sad and happy at the same time. The drama left a huge impact on the general public. Sundays are going to be boring now!Â
Check out the public reaction on the last episode of Ehd-e-Wafa.Â
Pakistani drama industry is finally working on some amazing and interesting storylines. Alif, Ehd-e-Wafa, and Meray Pass Tum Ho gained massive popularity and love for different and emotional stories. People loved the way these dramas came to an end.Â
When one drama ends, there is always another drama ready to take its place with new cast, new story, new dialogues, and new production. Sarah Khan, Mawra Hocane, Usman Mukhtar, and Ameer Gilani will play the lead role in the upcoming project, Sabaat.Â
The drama is directed by Shehzad Kashmiri who also directed Anaa, Yaqeen is safar, and Bin Roye. Usman will play the role of Dr. Haris, while Sarah is named as Miraal. The Ost of Sabaat is finally released, and we are super excited to see it.Â
The Ost tells a little bit about the drama, but to know the exact story, we have to wait till the end of March. People are hoping it to be a masterpiece like Alif, Ehd-e-Wafa, and Meray Pass Tum Ho. The releasing date of Sabaat is not confirmed yet. Let’s hear the official Ost of the upcoming drama, Sabaat.Â
No matter whatever field you are affiliated to, professional jealousy is something that is always there among the best of the competitions around. Now that the Pakistan’s media industry is flourishing each day, we often get to see rivalries among co-stars but there are many celebrities who have found their best friends at work and are often seen hanging out together.
Below are some of our beautiful celebrities with their real close friends. They have often seen together on screen but despite of any competitions, they have always supported each other and above all, hold a lot of respect for their friends. Have a look!
This was a remarkable last episode which covered all the tracks perfectly well. Ehd-e-Wafa’s last episode was Emotional, Entertaining and unpredictable right till the end. Saad’s track, of course, was the most emotional element of this last episode of Ehd-e-Wafa. All the scenes covering Saad’s operation were shot, written and performed so well. I am sure I am not the only one who cried with Saad’s family and friends, completely forgetting that I was watching a drama. Ehd-e-Wafa’s ending was powerful and meaningful in so many ways. After a long time, I watched a last episode which was very well put together. This had to be the most impactful ending which will stay with us for a long time.
Must Watch
Many people criticized Ehd-e-Wafa for giving politicians a bad name, even BBC published an article on it. I always felt that this criticism was baseless and biased. I would love to hear from all those people today if they watched this last episode and if they haven’t I suggest that they watch it with an open mind. Shahzain’s conversation with Shariq and Shehryar summed up the importance of politicians and the significant role they play on the political front. In this last episode, the writer showed impeccably how the politicians, military, bureaucracy, and civilians play their respective roles. This last episode highlighted the importance of a few good individuals and how they can make a difference by using the authority they have in the right way. More than anything else, Ehd-e-Wafa’s last episode showed that even the most dedicated soldiers like Saad have a difficult time saying goodbyes. The way a rough and tough soldier was humanized throughout in this drama was one of the best part of Saad’s track. Very often, we forget just how much such military men are putting on stake and how many lives are attached to them.
Shahzain and Rani’s scenes were once again humorous and I am actually glad that this apology was not covered too seriously. It was also good to see Shahzain redeeming himself and changing for good. Humayun Saeed’s guest performance was a good addition to this last episode. I absolutely loved the Indian talk show scene, very well done indeed! The last few scenes shown when the credits were rolling were also remarkable, a perfect mix of old and present-day scenes which showed how far these boys had come. I would have loved to see more of Masooma.
Final Remarks
Ehd-e-Wafa turned out to be an emotional roller coaster ride in the true sense of the word. The promos were exciting and I had huge expectations from it. The first few episodes were hilarious and entertaining but once SSG fell out, things turned bitter and the writer did not do justice to all the tracks. The fact that most of the episodes were written later on probably gave the writer more of an insight into what the viewers wanted to see and as a result of that the drama truly took off starting from episode 14. There was no turning back after that. The story moved forward convincingly from here on. Ehd-e-Wafa was one of those dramas which took off a little late therefore this last episode it seems came a little too soon. Unlike many other dramas, it did not drag towards the end. It was a wholesome and entertaining journey overall which will be remembered for all the right reasons.
The best aspect of Ehd-e-Wafa was that it reinforced so many important and positive messages. There are hardly any Pakistani dramas that focus on young people. Ehd-e-Wafa’s different tracks provided inspiration and guidance for the youth which was refreshing and much-needed. Apart from that, the strong female characters were the highlight of Ehd-e-Wafa. We got to see working women on our television screens after a long time. This was a breakthrough because women are stereotyped in Pakistani dramas on a regular basis.
Script, Direction and Performances
The writer Mustafa Afridi penned down an excellent script that did not go off track. He will be remembered for giving us some of the best female leads this year. Saife Hassan’s skillful direction showed in every scene even when there were some shortcomings in the script. Saife Hassan did exceptionally well while shooting the outdoor scenes. I respect him a lot for introducing some of the best actors in the television industry. He does not shy away from working with new actors.
Ahad Raza Mir gave yet another outstanding performance in Ehd-e-Wafa. He never seizes to impress with his organic performances in roles which are anything but simple. The tears in his eyes today when he said goodbye to his friends and when he was going for the operation were priceless. Ahmed Ali Akbar truly outshone in his role, he made sure that he looked and acted according to the situation. Some of the expressions he gave in Ehd-e-Wafa alone were enough to make the viewers emotional. He proved that he is an exceptional actor. Wahaj Ali was equally convincing and likable throughout. These brilliant performances definitely added to the impact and entertainment value of this drama. The new actors Adnan Samad Khan, Naeema Butt and Muhammad Hunbal performed exceptionally well. The fact that these actors have already performed in theatre definitely gave them an edge but this was their first appearance on television, therefore, they deserve all the praise for giving some really good performances.
Zara Noor Abbas was entertaining as the fun and carefree Rani and later on Rani’s transition too was shown convincingly. Once Dua’s character came into its own, Alizeh Shah too gave a decent performance. Hajra Yamin was likable as the independent and wise young lady. It was an absolute treat watching Faraz Inam on screen after such a long time. Although his screen time was limited but every time he appeared on screen, he made his presence felt. Vaneeza Ahmed nailed the poised and intelligent side of her character. Saad and his parents’ relationship was one of the best aspects of the drama, really meaningful and poignant. I absolutely loved Khalifa Sajeer Uddin as Firdous sahab, what an exceptional actor and what an emotional journey. Anjum Habibi (Shehryar’s father) made me cry in every emotional scene, he is an exceptionally talented actor who should be seen on-screen more often. Syed Muhammad Ahmed is one of my favorite actors, it was good to see him in a different role and it is especially great watching him being part of so many dramas lately. I really liked Momina Iqbal as Masooma and it would have been great if she had been given more screen time.
Last but not least special thanks to ISPR and MD Productions for giving us a drama which was extraordinary in so many ways – exceptional content and progressive female leads. Ehd-e-Wafa also for a change showed men and women as partners, that was truly delightful.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching and reviewing this play for the past 12 weeks or so in particular. I am glad, I did not give up on it. All of you who gave up on this drama after a few episodes should definitely give it a go now, it deserves to be watched and appreciated.
I would like to thank all those amazing readers who read the reviews every week and shared their opinions, without these discussions I wouldn’t have enjoyed watching Ehd-e-Wafa as much as I did. Keep reading and commenting, I look forward to your feedback.
Ehd-e-Wafa will be missed. I will definitely be watching some of the episodes again.

In a video message, he said, “The biggest reason for anger is PSL. Cricket returned to Pakistan after so many years, the PSL was happening in our country for the first time now even that is at risk. The foreign players are leaving because of Coronavirus and it will take place behind closed doors.”
Shoaib Akhtar prayed for India and wished that there will be no Coronavirus outbreaks because there is a huge population.
He further said, “I don’t understand why you have to eat things like bats, drink their blood and spread some virus across the globe I’m talking about the Chinese people. They have put the world at stake. I really don’t understand how can you eat bats, dogs, and cats. I’m really angry.”
“The whole world is at risk now. The tourism industry has been hit, the economy is badly affected, and the whole world is going towards a lockdown,” he added.
Many sporting events, including the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Pakistan Super League (PSL), have been affected by the disease which has now been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Alif, the production of Sana Shahnawaz and Samina Humayun, direction of Haseeb Hassan and script of Umera Ahmed garnered a massive popularity from the first day it went on air. Alif came to an end last night and the viewers and fans of this drama could not come to terms with the fact that it ended so soon. Alif carved its own niche and had its own set of audience who loved it and despite the competition with other popular weekend dramas, Alif continued to gain the viewership more and more with each passing episode.
After just 19 hours of being uploaded on YouTube, Alif’s last episode got a viewership of whopping 1.6M. It also trended on Twitter and remained one of the top trends in Pakistan. People took it to social media to share their feelings of gratitude towards the effort and hardwork of Team Alif.
Alif was a unique story which explored the concept of spirituality and all the trials and tribulations one experiences when they start walking on this path. It had many lessons along the journey and forced the viewers to think and introspect about the true purpose of life. Umera Ahmed is known for always writing such content which compels people to do the soul-searching and Alif was no different. The story of Alif was layered and every aspect surfaced at its given time, which made the drama watching experience more special. The way Alif was directed also contributed a lot in its success because a script like Alif deserved a unique and very different kind of execution. All the actors succeeded in giving one of the best performances of their entire career and this is the reason, the audience were able to connect with the characters and their journeys a lot more.
Alif ended at such a time when the viewers were not expecting it to end so soon, but these days when a lot of dramas get ruined due to being prolonged unnecessarily, Haseeb Hassan made the right decision to keep it short and sweet. Alif taught the viewers many lessons along the journey and they couldn’t help recall all that they learnt from Alif. Usually when a drama ends, there are two different opinions where some are happy with the ending and some are not, however when it comes to Alif, each and every viewer feels satisfied with the end and finds it to be a perfect way to give closure to all the tracks.
Hamza Ali Abbasi and Manzar Sehbai also took it to twitter to thank the fans for loving their performances in Alif and what they felt being a part of this project:

The coronavirus scare is growing bigger day after day. Schools have been shut down, towns isolated, businesses shut down around the world. The pandemic has now taken its roots in Pakistan as well, and alongside 28 cases that have been reported, Jibran Nasir might have also contacted the virus as well, as he recently returned from his trip to the US.
Jibran has currently isolated himself after returning from the US. The news was shared by Jibran himself on his social media.
“Out of concern for family, friends and everyone around, I’ve limited my interactios and movements as most of #corona cases are asymptomatic. I don’t have any symptoms but will go through testing just to be sure & encourage all those coming to Pak to do same,” wrote Jibran on his social media.
Mansha, who is quite worried about Jibran’s situation, also took to her social media to share her worries.
Mansha and Jibran recently got engaged. It would definitely be a worrisome situation for Jibran and his family. Here’s hoping the tests come out negative.
One of the most awaited wedding of the season, Ahad weds Sajal, was celebrated today in Abu Dhabi. The couple had a private Nikkah ceremony where all close friends and family members were invited.Â
Ahad and Sajal’s Nikkah event made waves around social media and the couple looked perfect together. Sajal wore a beautiful red bridal dress by Zara Shahjahan, while Ahad made a graceful entry in pearl white sherwani.
Â
Sajal recreated her mother’s bridal look to make her big day even more special. Although her mother was not physically present at the event, she was in Sajal’s heart all the time. Sajal looked beautiful as a bride, and we can’t take our eyes off them.Â
Right after Nikkah, Sajal took no time and changed her Instagram name to Sajal Ahad Mir. Both Sajal and Ahad posted their wedding picture on their official Instagram accounts, giving us major couple goals.Â
Many Pakistani celebrities congratulated Ahad and Sajal on their big day. Saboor Ali took to her Instagram and posted their wedding picture on her story. She captioned it, “Sajal Apki Hui.” Sadaf Kanwal, Zara Noor Abbas, Momal Sheikh, and many others sent warm wishes to the newly wedded couple. Check it out!Â
Umera Ahmed’s recent drama, Alif, was a masterpiece. It has won the hearts of millions of people all over the world. The story was based on a connection between humans and Allah Almighty. Hamza Ali Abbasi and Sajal Ali did a tremendous job and won everyone’s heart. The drama successfully impressed all his fans till the end.Â
Alif was always on trending after each episode. During an interview, Sajal Ali said that she worked really hard for Alif. The drama is based on a novel, and people create a strong image of the characters. It’s difficult for actors to meet their fans’ expectations.Â
Hamza Ali announced that Alif was a life-changing project. He will continue to live his life in preaching Islam. His acting made Alif one of the best dramas of the year. Alif has beautifully described the concept of spirituality, success, and failure.Â
People are in love with the last episode. The drama did justice to Umera Ahmed’s novel. Check out the public reaction on the last episode Alif.Â
Ohkay so, the journey of Alif has come to an end tonight. It is a bitter-sweet moment because as complete as the ending of this drama was, it could’ve easily been extended to a couple of more episodes. I think it was very intelligent on the drama maker’s end where they decided to wrap it up without delaying much because the viewers always come across such dramas which get ruined due to unnecessary dragging & that didn’t turn out to be the case with Alif, this is the reason those who loved tuning to Alif feel the need for a few more episodes because we’re still not done with it.
Full Circle
Everything came in full circle for Qalb e Momin when he got the paintings of Husn e Jahan that Master Ibrahim left for him. He or even Husn e Jahan would’ve never imagined that Qalb e Momin will once again get the possession of his father’s paintings, something that solely belonged to their family & no one else.
Master Ibrahim & Husn e Jahan were married for 5 years. Husn e Jahan died young but in the last years of her life, at least she was in a presence of someone who cherished & appreciated her the most. They did not go much into details but it was hard to believe that Master Ibrahim didn’t know about Husna being Husn e Jahan & on top of that, Abdul Ala’s daughter in law. She used to come once in a while to see Qalb e Momin, so not sure how all these years, Master Ibrahim never really got to know about her son. Also, in one of the previous episodes, the teenager boy they showed as Qalb e Momin looked older to be a 14-15 year old. However, keeping these minute details aside, it is commendable how all the questions were answered because when the previous episode ended, there were quite a few things that were answered, therefore they used this opportunity to leave no loose ends.
All the things that Abdul Ala said about Husn e Jahan went to show how regretful he was for judging her wrongly & also how keen he was to make things right. He wanted to do good by her that is why he got her married to the man he trusted the most. Master Ibrahim revered Abdul Ala, therefore he could not question him. Another beautiful aspect was how even after finding out about Husn e Jahan, Master Ibrahim never mentioned it to Abdul Ala because he knew, that will put him in an awkward position. The thing that I have loved noticing the most throughout Alif is how they have depicted the respect students have had for their mentors & how they have this beautiful relationship that they share with one another. Master Ibrahim & Abdul Ala’s relationship being one, similarly Momina & Master Ibrahim also shared a special bond where Momina would share everything with him. His death left her devastated but Qalb e Momin found a complete closure because he got to know that the man Abdul Ala chose for Husn e Jahan was one of a kind.
Momin & Momina
Momina & Momin finally found their purpose in life, Momin had to go to Turkey because he made a promise to Abdul Ala, however Momina had to stay where she was because of her parents & the self-assigned duty of carrying the legacy of Master Ibrahim & Husn e Jahan forward. They both decided to go about their own orbits but Momina knew that Momin was always going to wait for her. This part of the ending was bittersweet, because as much as I wanted them to have a happy ending, this one does make a lot of sense. Momina has never believed in rushing things & this is why she decided to take her time. It also showed that she had developed this strong trust in Momin to know that he was going to be there for her. Momina also wanted him to explore his path on his own a bit more, he needed this time to himself, to rediscover & realign his priorities. The bottom line is that they both were at peace after a long time & just having each other’s support was all that they needed at this point to go about their lives.
The way Momin came to Momina’s house after reading all the letters, it also showed how he had started relying on her for emotional support, he knew she understood him like no one else did, therefore just by telling her what’s in his heart made him feel at ease, it was a very short scene but it showed how in such a short span of time, Momin had grown comfortable around Momina & her presence meant so much to him.
Alif Is A Magical Journey
Alif was a beautiful drama. It spoke about spirituality, judgments, regrets, consequences, thing spinning out of control & then everything falling in its right place – each & every character & its journey had so much to offer. Umera Ahmed once again wrote a perspective altering & thought-provoking script, which allowed people to look into their hearts & just ask simple questions about the purpose of their lives. The most beautiful part – it never ever got preachy & all the dialogues were carefully written which were precise & to the point. Despite being a story of a filmstar, Alif ended up being a story so relatable to general audiences because these are the spiritual & religious struggles everyone is faced with at certain point in their lives. All the characters were not only beautiful but very important to complete the story, therefore all of them contributed in making it a wholesome experience. Each & every character was carefully placed by Umera Ahmed to convey what she wanted to, be it Jahangir or Aqsa, or Neha & even Husn e Jahan’s mother. Coming to the main characters; Abdul Ala, Master Ibrahim, Husn e Jahan, Qalb e Momin, Momina, Sultan, Taha – they were so complete in their own way & when interlinked, they gave us Alif. Manzar Sehbai, Saife Hassan, Saleem Mairaj, Kubra Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Sajal Aly, Ahsan Khan, Pehlaaj Hussain, they all contributed equally towards the success of Alif & the way they breathed life into these characters was phenomenal. All the supporting actors such as Hina Ashfaq, Lubna Aslam, Fareeha Raza, Musaddiq Malik, Yashma Gill, Sadaf Kanwal & Nida Mumtaz also did justice to the roles that were assigned to them. Special mention goes to Pehlaaj Hussain for making all the scenes of young Qalb e Momin so much special with his adorable personality & brilliant acting.
Alif was a team effort & it actually makes me proud as a viewer that we still have such drama-makers who are capable of creating something as magical & beautiful as Alif. The dialogues were some of the best that we have heard, the background instrumental musics were beautiful & hit the right emotion in every scene. The locations were beautiful & the attention to detail paid to create the era of 80’s was a masterstroke. Taha & Qalb e Momin’s homes were my absolute favorite & it also helped in depicting the kind of personalities they had, which goes to show how much attention was paid while making Alif. The flashbacks were used in an apt manner to convey the story brilliantly. Editing, camera work, the overall vibe that the director Haseeb Hassan created was perfect & added more aesthetic value while watching it. The producers, writer, director and all the actors should be extremely proud of themselves & take a bow for a successful project such as Alif. Please share your thoughts about the last episode of Alif.
Fans of the drama Ehd E Wafa had been eagerly awaiting the last episode that was due to be screened in cinemas across Pakistan on the 14th of March.
However, owing to growing cases of the global pandemic coronavirus in Pakistan, Hum TV has decided to cancel the final episode screening in cinemas, complying with the WHO guidelines.
“Hum Network Ltd being one of the leading media companies has always taken its responsibility seriously. In line with the above, keeping in view the WHO guidelines on Covid-19 pandemic, it has been decided to cancel the grand finale screening at cinemas,” read a press statement issued by Hum TV.
Although no date has been given, the network has asked fans to stay tuned for updates.
Ehd E Wafa’s grand finale was initially supposed to screen in cinemas across Pakistan, a day before it premiered on television.
Following the coronavirus outbreak in Pakistan and case number rising to 28, as a precautionary measure against the coronavirus outbreak, Cinestar Cinemas in Lahore, Atrium Cinemas in Karachi and Centaurus Cineplex Islamabad cinemas have announced that they will suspend operations starting Saturday (today).
The Senate Function Committee on Human Rights has stopped the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) from screening the film Zindagi Tamasha and according to CII Chairman Dr.Qibla Ayaz the council will not resist the committee’s decision over the issue.
“It has come to our knowledge that the Senate Function Committee on Human Rights has bared us from reviewing the film. We have no objection over this decision. In case the committee wants us to play a role in deciding the fate of the film, we will gladly offer our assistance. But we wont object if they don’t take us into the loop. Earlier on we were told to review the film but we were yet to do it,” the chairman told the Express Tribune.
After an in camera session held to discuss the fate of Sarmad Khoosat’s Zindagi Tamasha, the Senate Function Committee on Human Rights CII was barred from reviewing the film and the Central Board of Film Censors directed to provide a copy of the film for screening.
The session was chaired by PPP Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar and received briefing from officials of the central and provincial censor boards.
“A screening of the film will be arranged on March 16. The panel will decide if the film needs to be sent to the CII for approval. If we do not find the film objectionable, orders will be given for the film’s immediate release,” said Khokhar.
According to Khokhar only the parliament has the authority to refer matters to the CII and no ministry can consult the advisory body on its own. “The law defines this in clear terms. Going by the details provided in the in-camera briefing, there appears to be nothing objectionable in the film,” he added further.

Pakistani dramas have always been popular because they have depicted realities of life in the most convincing manner. This is the reason why the audience have always found them relatable. The stories of Pakistani dramas resonate with the viewers because of how closer to reality they are. However, in recent years, the rat-race of ratings has prevented the drama writers from exploring more domains. They more or less write the similar stories but set the dynamics and the story differently, which often works to sell a drama.
Pakistani dramas have always done well and hold a special place in the audience hearts. This puts more responsibility upon the drama makers, starting from producers to writers to take their job seriously and to not dwell too much in the hunger for ratings to be churning out similar stories repeatedly. Media plays a huge part in shaping up society, which is why it is one of the most powerful mind-controlling tools. Unfortunately, the drama-makers think by showing these stories they are creating awareness, however it is also having an opposite and negative impact on the society. In the subconscious mind, when seen certain situations repeatedly, viewers become immune to such issues and find nothing wrong in them. Showing reality is one thing but to glorify it time and again is always alarming. There are a lot more subjects that can be explored but these days, most of the writers purely believe in showing limited number of scenarios and do not bring something new to the table. If such trends are banned, the writers will start working on newer ideas.
Let’s take a look at 10 more trends that should be banned in Pakistani dramas:
Extra Marital Affairs
This trend definitely has to be put an end to in Pakistani dramas. Over the years, the cheating deceptive spouses have garnered quite a lot of popularity among the Pakistani drama viewers because they have gotten used to the idea of an extra marital affair. In the classic dramas, this scenario was never glorified but now the gravity of the issue has been heavily compromised upon because, in the end, the cheating spouse is always forgiven and accepted back. These scenarios do sell the dramas, but they also desensitize the viewers about such a serious issue.
Divorces
If taken a look at most of the dramas that made it to TV screens of Pakistani audiences, there will be a handful of them which might not have included a divorce. Most of the stories of Pakistani dramas now revolve around divorces and it has come to a point where in every story, if the viewers come across a mismatched couple, the first thing they know is that this couple is not going to stay together and their relationship won’t last. Divorce is a reality for a lot of people in the society but the way our dramas portray it makes it very nominal, taking the attention away from the fact that it is taxing on emotional and mental well-being of those who go through it in real life. In Pakistani dramas, divorce has been reduced to such a normal issue as it it’s as simple as winning or losing a game of Ludo!
Young Girls Dying To Get Married
This is another trend that should be absolutely banned in Pakistani dramas, where they show that young teenagers are dying to get married and that’s the only goal they have set for themselves in their lives. In those few dramas where the viewers came across such female leads who had everything else on their mind apart from marriage, they made a lot more impact and showed that there’s a lot more to be achieved than a bridal dress before your teenage years are over. In every other drama, there’s a girl dying to get married to the guy who is not into her and probably has behan-zoned her ages ago but they continue to day-dream about them. Also, those who are getting the attention of the boys in the dramas are only seen discussing marriages and making plans with their potential husbands-to-be. Over the recent years, every other drama has included one such character who has nothing else to do than to dream about her wedding with phupho ka beta. It would be such a breath of fresh air seeing female characters who are working hard to educate themselves, pursue their dream job and focusing on their career ahead.
Helpless Mothers
This is yet another trend that makes the viewers’ blood boil. Mothers are one way or the other one of the stronger support systems that children have. They are safety blankets that children can always fall back on. Motherhood not only gives the woman a status of being a mother but it also instills this strength in her with which she protects her child from all sorts of preventable evils surrounding them, however the mothers in Pakistani dramas are quite different. Recently, the viewers have come across such mothers who can’t even complete a sentence in defense of their child, they also go on a mourn-vrat spree and don’t find the courage to call spade a spade. It makes one wonder the reason behind mother’s forced, exaggerated and unrealistic helplessness. It is understandable that mothers can not control the consequences, which might make their helplessness justified but not speaking up when the time is right and calls for their intrusion is very frustrating.
Alcoholism
Just by showing a mere ticker of ‘sharab noshi haram hai’ is not enough of a public service message. How about the drama makers ban this trend and do not show it at all. Alcohol might be a reality for certain parts of society but it is never alright to show it just so casually as if it makes one look charming who is relying on alcohol. In quite a lot of dramas the characters are shown to be drinking in order to deal with the stress, which makes one wonder why there was no other option shown than to just rely on alcohol?
Close Proximity Between Characters
For years and years, the love stories shown in Pakistani dramas have done so well in terms of popularity due to the decency with which they were executed. No physical contact, nothing over the top, no cheesiness, just simple decent romance which conveys the emotions of love and respect between the married characters perfectly. However, this trend has also become quite popular and a lot more actors are becoming quite comfortable with the physical contact which always feels unnecessary and unnatural for a Pakistani drama setting.
Forced Marriages
In every other drama these days, there are always a couple of characters who are being forced into marrying someone they are not into. It sets a tone for the rest of the drama and makes the story very predictable because the viewers already know that they will get married forcefully, will be unhappy, make each other’s lives miserable and then get divorced. It is more or less the similar vicious cycle that repeats itself in every other drama but the only difference is of the actors who are playing such roles. Forced marriages should be banned completely. There are some dramas that do show people making their forced marriages work, but the majority of those forced marriages end up on an ugly note and then kind of gives the character an open edge, an allowance to get married to the person they were initially in love with, which is absolutely bizarre. What makes it even more ridiculous is the fact that the parents, who can totally see their children not being happy force their marriage down their throats like a cough syrup, as if it’s a matter of 2 – 3 weeks and not their entire life ahead!
Rudely Speaking To Househelp
This is one such trend that needs to be banned as soon as possible. This is where the media should play its role even more responsibly and change the usual narrative where the servants are misbehaved with. It ends up being one of the most disgusting things to come across and may be because people are so used to mistreating their house help and not treating them with respect, they do not find it odd while watching the similar behavior on TV as well. If the drama writers, producers and directors are not going to reinforce the fact that servants are humans and they deserve respect too, not sure who will speak up in their favor ever? In all the Pakistani dramas, no honorifics are used for aged servants, which is irksome, condescending and absolutely disrespectful. The younger servants are also not treated well, which is absolutely sickening to see.
Characters With Psychological Issues Ending Up Dead or Mentally Deranged
Pakistani drama writers have started to explore this genre now, where they are trying to bring attention to psychological issues by writing stories related to such characters. However, these subjects require thorough research but Pakistani drama-makers unfortunately use them for ratings. After they are done, these characters either end up dead or are shown the doors of mental asylum. It is a rarity in Pakistani dramas that a character with psychological issue was shown to be going through a proper psychiatric treatment because it takes time and probably won’t’ bring the ratings that the producers are after. It is very easy to show the problem but showing the solution is the key which goes missing especially when it comes to these characters and their stories. Time to put a ban to it with immediate effect!
Parents Turning Blind Eye To Married Daughters
Another narrative which is not only boring, outdated but absolutely frustrating for the viewers. It also makes it sickly amusing that the opening scenes of such dramas always show daughters to be Papa Ki Paris but the moment these girls get married, they become Papa Ki Paapis because Papas start seeing them as the culprit who are unable to make their marriages work. Every single set of parents is shown to be telling their married daughter that they have to survive the marriage no matter how toxic it gets. About time to ban such sets of parents from making an appearance on the TV screens and stop the narrative of tumhara aslee ghar, shohar ka ghar!
This concludes the part 2 of 10 trends that should be banned in Pakistani dramas. What are your thoughts on these prevalent trends in Pakistani dramas? Feel free to share your opinion in the comment section below!
