Judai – Episode 5

Right. So the cat is out of the bag, except this cat brought two kittens along with it too! As we all suspected, Saima was also Hassan’s wife. This episode was about Mehr slowly returning to life after Hassan’s death and then like a treasure hunt, stumbling upon clue after clue which finally landed her at Saima’s doorstep. Ouch!

The episode begins with Alia and Haider (and the annoying crickets that seem to accompany Haider everywhere!) chatting in their bedroom. Alia really wants to go on a honeymoon and feels Haider has immersed himself too deep into the office affairs and should take a break. It was nice to see Haider concerned about his mother for in the earlier episodes I was given the impression that he was quite short with Mehr. In the scene where Alia tells Minahil off in front of Mehr, I did think Minahil was a bit out of order by saying it is too soon for Alia and Haider to go anywhere as she is not really a part of their family. But then Alia is also all about making changes in her susraal and her life the way she deems fit and is not willing to accept any changes to accommodate them.

PIC1

I liked the scene between Haider and Mehr in the garden. It was nice to see Mehr as the level headed woman she is and not create a saas bahu issue out of Alia wanting to go on a honeymoon. I mentioned earlier as well that I feel bad for Mehr since it seems the only two ‘friends’ she has are Saman and Alia’s mum (if you don’t count Minahil). Whether I feel Alia and Haider should have left for their honeymoon now or not is a separate issue but I really did not care for how Saman was going on about it to Mehr. I really do not like Saman’s character – there is nothing positive about her!

So I know Alia said Mehr needed to keep herself busy and have a hobby but I am pretty sure super sleuthing is not what she had in mind! When Mehr eyes the letters addressed to Hasan it was obvious that she was about to open Pandora’s box. The expressions of curiosity, confusion, distress were all portrayed by Samina Peerzada so well! I loved how there was no wailing, no collapsing and oh my God no throwing things around. I don’t know why but that always bothers me- the throwing and breaking of things in dramas and movies. I keep thinking, ab itna tor phor kar kay khud he saaf karna ho ga but here I had to remind myself keh I am sure maasi hai! However, back to Samina Peerzada, I loved how she portrayed a dignified woman who knew her world was collapsing around her and the confusion on her face when she went to Junaid’s house and spoke to Saman showed how she was barely just holding on to her composure.

PIC2

I found it odd how she zeroed in on the files in Junaid’s house and knew to go through them unless she had bionic eyes and saw ‘Hassan’ from afar. But I suppose in her quest to know more and since it was paper that was doing all the talking (Hasan and Junaid surely hadn’t!) maybe she thought she would find some clue. Apparently she did as she ends up at Saima’s doorstep. I have to admit I was waiting for that scene and I was not disappointed. I know Saima is all filmy and I have never watched any of her films but I watched her in Kaneez and Rang Laaga and although a bit dramatic I do think she is a good actress. Having said that, I understand she is portraying a woman here who is not quite herself but the messy hair was a bit distracting especially as I was trying to find Saima’s face behind all the strands hanging in front of it! And Samina Peerzada is easily one of my favourite actresses. From being a woman struggling to come back to life, to a woman making a shocking discovery and then to the indignant woman who confronts Saima – she was flawless.

PIC3

I never thought I would say this but I actually liked Faryal Mehmood today. I find her acting very annoying in the other dramas I have seen her in and even earlier in Judai when she was smiling dreamingly at Hamza but today I liked how she actually seemed ‘normal’! I also liked the chemistry between her and Samina Peerzada, something I did not think I would notice. Hamza and Zaina were absent from today’s episode – probably a big exam coming up for which Zaina was tutoring Hamza (tongue in cheek). I can not say I missed them and am actually glad that they were not thrown in just for the sake of it as today was all about Mehr’s final discovery of Saima for I would have also lost my mind if the episode had ended without telling us how exactly Saima is related to Hasan!

I can not believe how Junaid had left Hasan’s private file so easily on the table knowing what a super nosy woman his wife is. Actually, I noticed that everyone in today’s episode was super attentive and sleuth-ish. Haider with his ‘did Alia say something to you’ line to his mother when she mentioned the honeymoon and then when he asked Alia if something had happened between her and Minahil. Mehr’s super sleuthing where she discovers a box on top of the wardrobe of their bedroom which she had surprisingly never come across in all those years of marriage, how she zeroes in on the file on Junaid’s table and ends up in Lahore! I felt like I was being left behind in this group of sleuths and needed to hone up my detective skills too and not miss anything and almost jumped up and exclaimed ‘I knew it!’ even before Saima finished uttering her ‘woh meray shohar hain’. There!

Jokes aside, I quite liked today’s episode. I know they dragged out the whole Hasan secret in the earlier ones and I would have preferred to find out aaj he how Saima became his wife but watching Mehr make the discovery – I was not bored. Next week’s preview showed Saima sharing her story with Mehr. How did you find today’s episode? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Mana Ka Gharana – Episode 14!

Ohkay so, probably after a long time I liked this episode of Mana Ka Gharana because seems like the story of Maalik & Zarri is going to progress in the episodes to come & that’s the only thing that I look forward to in this entire drama.

As expected, Saleha now wants Maalik to reconcile his differences with Gul Bahar & start afresh. It is actually quite amusing that Saleha is doing everything she can that in her opinion, will guarantee Mana’s happiness. Saleha is leaving no stone unturned to do even achieve the unachievable, like bringing Maalik & Gul Bahar together so that no one from her side of the family stays in bad books of Shehryaar. Everything that Saleha on her own is doing for Mana is understandable because parents do these things for their children but the way Saleha is now expecting everyone else around her to make sacrifices for Mana is a bit hard to digest. Saleha herself has seen how hard things were on Maalik & how he isolated himself so it is actually quite selfish of her to ignore this entire episode of Maalik’s life & expect him to get back with Gul Bahar just to make her happy so that she doesn’t make things awkward for Mana. I wish for once Saleha will analyze the situation & understand that a relation that requires so much of effort & so much of sacrifices from a girl’s side is definitely not worth it.

After Ghaalib gave Saleha a shut up call twice, I really thought he redeemed himself but nope, this uncle is hopeless because ohkay, his wife Saleha can show some level of inconsideration towards Maalik but to hear Ghaalib convey the message of his wife Saleha to his brother like a minion was ridiculous. I really think as much as Saleha, Ghaalib is also responsible for what his family is going through because just like his wife, his brains have stopped working too & that is why he is saying such things which he definitely shouldn’t. Saleha must’ve lost all her senses, sensibility & sanity because of Mana & Shehryaar’s marriage but Ghaalib is not unaware of what his younger brother went through because of Gul Bahar, so he should be the last person telling his brother to give this marriage another chance. It was good to know that Maalik openly told Ghaalib how he thinks Gul Bahar has an ulterior motive, to which Ghaalib’s response was shocking as usual. He can already sense & foresee that things can go wrong but he is choosing to stay quiet till something actually happens, because guess what, even in that state he knows what he’ll be doing, yes you all guessed it right, hiding in his room probably under his blanket & crying buckets over his daughter’s phooti kismat!!!

I must say Gul Bahar has the bones & body of steel because even after hearing so many negative things about herself from her potential ex-husband, she still thinks she has a chance in his life & is doing everything to make things difficult for him & punish him. I really like the admiration Maalik has for Zarri & how he finds her respectable enough to feel that she should become his wife. Maalik has a plan in his mind & he is only waiting for Mana & Shehryaar to get married so that he can finally bid Gul Bahar good bye because he knows if he will divorce her before Mana’s marriage, then things will become rocky between her & her fiancé & then Saleha will get a chance to blame him & Zarri, so in order to avoid that, Maalik is being patient. I liked that in this episode, for the first time Zarri showed some care & affection towards Maalik too by asking if he has had his meal. I know it was quite typical & cheesy but I think it was the most subtle expression of affection Zarri could extend towards him.

Gul Bahar really meant something when she told Zarri to pack her stuff before she left Murree. It was obvious that she must’ve called Zarri’s brother Javed & told him to pick his little sister up. Does Gul Bahar really think that by creating a distance between Maalik & Zarri she’ll be able to draw them apart? Also, I am not sure if Saleha was involved in this plan or not because it can’t be a coincidence that a friend whom Saleha wasn’t even in contact with came to her mind & she thought of inviting her to Mana’s wedding especially when the cards haven’t been printed just as yet? I won’t be surprised if later we’ll get to know about Saleha’s involvement too because she is capable of anything nasty for the sake of her good-for-nothing daughter Mana!!!

I was surprised to see Sara Khan’s picture in Laila’s home & looks like Laila & her father have a sad story attached to them. Just like Laila, Laila’s father has become a fan of Khizer too & that seems genuine because usually uncles like him have quite an experience & they can judge a personality just in few interactions. More than Laila, I find her father’s inclination towards Khizer more relate-able probably because he takes him as his own son & feels for him because he knows that Khizer is going through a hard time.

Overall, this episode was good. I think there’s nothing more to show in Shehryaar & Mana’s track that’s why all of their conversations begin & end with the exact same dialogue uttered by Shehryaar which states ‘hamari shadi ke baad ye hoga, hamari shadi ke baad wo hoga’ & every single time, I roll my eyes because of the newness of their conversations!!! Anyways, I caan’t wait to see the next episode only to find out what Maalik’s reaction at Zarri’s departure would be. I am sure Maalik knows Gul Bahar too well to join the dots & figure out that she must be the mastermind behind all this. Even though Erum Akhtar looks amazing in the smoked out & thick eyeliner sort of eye-makeup but in the few scenes where she wasn’t wearing much eye-makeup, she looked approximately 10 years younger & fresh but having said that I believe she can rock both the makeup looks perfectly. Shamil Khan has never looked so good before & the subtlety in his expressions is making his acting seem more natural & effortless. Honestly speaking, even though I should be feeling bad, I sort of enjoyed seeing Shehryaar putting Saleha down, lol, because she deserves it. Anyways, please share your thoughts about this episode of Mana Ka Gharana.

“Mein” Beqasoor !!! Episode 19

This drama is getting worse with every passing episode. The viewers have been watching Sadaf and Hira suffering, compromising and crying right from the first episode, 19 weeks of watching these women worrying about one thing or the other has been torturous enough and now when the drama should be wrapping up we see Hira contemplating a reunion with Ameen!! Just like every other silly step Hira took this time around too her reasons are very clear. She has always enjoyed playing the qurbani ka bakra and this time around a child is involved too therefore she has all the more reason to play the savior. Hira will do anything to save her sister’s marriage and ensure that her child has a father when he comes into this world. Don’t any of these characters have any common sense? Shehryar is Hira’s father too, what good did that do??

The confrontations between the two wives who were Phupo and Bhatiji not very long ago were nauseating. All these scenes had star plus written all over them! Dialogues like Shehryar ke bete ki maa mei bano gi were sickening. Is Shehryar really worth fighting over? Shehryar is not even willing to own this child but Sehr is bent on staying in his house to make sure that her son, who we are not even sure exists gets his due share in his father’s inheritance!! Although Sehr is going through hell but her make-up stayed as loud as it has always been all through tonight’s episode. Now only if our production houses would spend as much time and energy in finding good script as they do in making these dramas visually pleasing.

bq1

The lighting in this play is always perfect, the colors are beautiful and the make-up is always in place but other than that this play has absolutely nothing to offer. It is full of women who keep on making one stupid decision after the other and although the writer has tried to make Hira look like the ideal daughter and sister but she comes across as a very dim-witted person who can never take the right decisions. It is sad to see legends like Samina Peerzada, Sajjid Hassan, Salahuddin Tunio and even Waseem Abbas wasting their precious talent by being part of a drama that has absolutely nothing to offer. I have lost all interest in this drama, watching it is a pain and I cannot take anymore of Hira’s stupidity! I am certain that any viewers out there who felt something for some of the characters must have given up by now too.

How many of you watched this latest episode of Beqasoor? If you didn’t watch it, you did yourself a favour:) And if you watched it then please feel free to vent out!!

Zara Yaad Kar – Episode 01!

Ohkay so, the writing of Khalil ur Rehman Qamar, direction of Amna Nawaz Khan & production of ANK Productions; Zara Yaad Kar commenced tonight & honestly speaking, they gave us a perfect first episode that sparked the interest so well that I’m looking forward to the next episode already. We all are well aware of the magic Khalil ur Rehman Qamar is known to create through his thoughts in his writings & Amna Nawaz Khan left a great impact on the viewers who followed her amazing work in Shanakht, that is why, I have high hopes with this duo & I’m hoping that they will give us something memorable like their previous projects.

The first episode introduced the characters & their characteristics properly. Haadi (Zahid Ahmed) is legally married to Mahnoor (Sana Javed) & their big day is approaching in a few months time. Haadi lives as a tenant in a small room at a place of a School Teacher (Rashid Farooqui). The teacher’s family only has him & his daughter Uzma (Yumna Zaidi). Haadi shares a good bond with his house owner & they both enjoy their conversations over politics & different subjects. Uzma is involved in a one-sided love with Haadi & despite knowing that he has a wife, she feels the need to confess her feelings to him because she thinks she has that much of a right to do so. Haadi strictly tells her off that she shouldn’t feel that way because he is married & loves his wife sincerely.

Collage 1

I really liked the relationship both Haadi & Mahnoor share. Mahnoor also works & she lives with her mother & a younger brother. Haadi is possessive about Mahnoor & doesn’t hold back in telling her how protective he is of her. In their relationship, Mahnoor is definitely the dominant one but what I liked is that Haadi has accepted her the way she is. Yes, he does tell her what she must & she must not do but when it comes to him personally, he doesn’t mind doing what she likes because that’s his way of displaying his love for his wife. Both Haadi & Mahnoor trust each other as well but their ways of trusting is definitely different. In general, they both are very different people with different personality types & different temperaments but somehow they both comfortably complete each other.

Haadi feels obliged to tell Mahnoor about Uzma & her letter to which Mahnoor doesn’t react the way Haadi expects she would. Mahnoor knows that Haadi is loyal to her & that is why she doesn’t feel worried. Haadi believes in transparency between himself & his wife whereas Mahnoor doesn’t feel that way. She thinks if there are certain things that one can handle on their own then there’s no need to tell everything to one’s spouse. Mahnoor knows that Haadi is a bit too particular about minutest things that are related to her & if she continues to share everything with him, things might get difficult for her & Haadi both, that is why she does believe in keeping certain things to herself but more than that, she also believes in having a factor of trust & they both have that thing sorted. Mahnoor does love Haadi & she has accepted him the way he is but somewhere down the line she also belives in independence & that was made evident through the way she thinks & the things she says. I believe the things that do not matter much to Haadi about Mahnoor might come back & bite him because Mahnoor also thinks about herself a little more than she does about Haadi & that can cause a bit of a trouble to both of them.

Collage 02

Haadi believes in giving all that he’s got to his wife & Mahnoor believes in demanding from him. However, the way Haadi described Uzma in front of Mahnoor, it showed that she can be an ideal partner for Haadi or in other words, she could be the idea of an ideal partner for him. The way Uzma has conducted herself so far in front of Haadi, despite her honest & up front confession, Haadi still finds her respectable & a bit immature to not know what she is wishing for.

Waqar (Yasir Mazhar), who happens to be an Urdu teacher has just shifted in the house next to Mahnoor’s. He already has made an entry into their lives by seeking their help time & again. I am sure he has a major role to play in the episodes to come & his role won’t stop at just being their neighbor. So far he seems pretty decent & genteel, probably poles apart from Mahnoor too, so let’s see what role he has to play in this story.

I really liked how simple the very first episode was & how simply it was directed. The conversations were clear & straight forward & in very few scenes they introduced the characters in great deal. I don’t know why but I somehow liked Mahnoor’s character, only for the fact that she was herself in front of Haadi & she doesn’t believe in pretentiousness. I know in the episodes to come, she will prove out to be someone who’s incompatible with Haadi but for now, I also liked the acceptance Haadi has shown towards her. Indeed, in this relationship, he is the one who’s at the giving end & Mahnoor is at the receiving end so this factor as well as Mahnoor’s attitude & to some extent her immaturity will become few of the major reasons behind them drifting apart but for now, I liked the way they both are happy with each other.

Collage 03

Overall, this episode was really nice. As usual, the conversations were simple yet well-written & that’s like a done deal in any of Khalil ur Rehman Qamar’s dramas. I liked how Amna Nawaz Khan has kept it simple & there wasn’t anything exaggerated or overdone in this entire episode. I liked how all the actors have acted. Sana Javed really did Mahnoor’s character a justice, she was flawless as a carefree, open-minded Mahnoor, however, I do feel Sana needs to experiment with her looks or styling a little because she looks the same in every drama of hers. Zahid Ahmed did a great job too like he always does, I especially liked his expressions when he shows up at Mahnoor’s door after an accident, where he is trying not to look like a fool by showing up like that, yet he is smiling because Mahnoor is laughing at him, haha, those expressions were priceless. Also, I think Zahid Ahmed looked quite different, may be because he has lost a bit of weight & he had a different haircut, but he looked quite different & it was good to see him experimenting with his looks. Yumna Zaidi didn’t have many scenes but she left an impact too & in just these few moments she showed what Uzma is like. She is hopelessly in love with a married man & believes in doing what she can for him, without expecting anything in return. Yumna Zaidi’s styling was good in a sense that just in a first glimpse of her you can tell that she’s a very domesticated sort of a girl.

I must say I thoroughly enjoyed the very first episode & I am looking forward to the next one too. However, I must add that I have a thing against those patent & non-stop Alaaps of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, I feel they sort of distract me from my thoughts while I am watching an episode & for that I am hoping that they don’t rely too much on those Alaaps in the rest of the episodes. So that’s all from my side & please feel free to share your thoughts about this episode of Zara Yaad Kar.

Mera Yaar Miladay – Episode 6

Right. So forget Aslam-Dabbu faceoff, Mushq-Fahd love story, Master Sb’s heart troubles – what stayed with me the most at the end of the episode was – the bun kebab!! Woh bhi special wala! It has been years since I have been able to have a street side bun kebab in Pakistan and I realised watching that scene how badly I missed it.

Back to less important matters then. Aslam Bhai finds out Master Sb is in the hospital and shows up there to pay the bill. I thought it was an act of goodwill or to show Master Sb he is the ‘better’ bhai but we learn later that it was anything but.

mymd1

I know I was complaining about the lack of chemistry between Sajal and Ahmed Ali but I have to say their scenes in the kitchen and when he shows up to take food to the hospital seemed very convincing. Sajal was able to portray all the emotions Mushq was feeling really well. I could actually feel her happiness at the sight of Fahd, her distress at her father being unwell, guilt for being blamed for his troubles and her impatience to be with Fahd.

Fahd has become driver, delivery wala, electrician, male attendant , you name it. Cynical old me could not help wondering though how artificial his concern must be for the family and how hypocritical he was not to be giving his widowed mother a second thought while he is running around after Master Sb’s family. Anyways, he tells Mushq they need to take things slowly although she seems to be losing patience. It’s like Fahd wants to play a test match innings while Mushq is all out for a twenty 20!

I am not sure who was following the journey of the Rs.24,500 hospital bill more avidly – me or Thor ka desi bhai. Aslam Bhai pays the bill and we learn that he tells the receptionist that the bill has been paid by Dabbu Bhai. When Master Sb finds out, he is outraged and confronts Dabbu and throws the money back in his face. Dabbu shows up at Aslam Bhai’s and throws the money back at him and in that whole intense (not) scene all I seemed to notice was how Thor’s brother was eyeing the money. This Master Sb – khud tau ek angina attack ho gaya hai I am not sure if I will end up getting one watching the way he trembles and keels over every other second. The way he was oscillating up, down and everywhere in the scene where he confronts Dabbu, I wanted to fetch him a stretcher to collapse on!

mymd2

Let’s not forget Mehru ji because this episode gave us a bit more of an insight into her chamak chalo existence. Her conversation with her mother was a bit confusing to me. Mehru and her mother did not seem to share the most cordial of relations and I was given the impression that Mehru does not love Dabbu and is aware he is not rich but she knows he loves her and she feels that is her way to escape. Later, when she is chomping away in his car, we learn that she has made him promise that he does not tell anyone they are seeing each other. That does clarify the confusion I kept facing in the earlier episodes wondering whether she has told him she loves him or not but now that raises the question of why keep the relationship a secret. Why not let Dabbu marry her? Mrs. Dabbu doesn’t sound charming enough? I mean, it’s not like he is a gunda and her mother will refuse – he is a social worker, remember? Although I doubt social workers are as scantily dressed as he was in that green shirt!

mymd3

And oh dear. Zeba zeba zeba. I have only seen Zeba sulking around with her distracting ringlets and the couple of times she decided to smile and giggle in this episode sent shivers down my spine – and definitely down Mushq’s. Dadi and Master Sb seem to think Fahd and Zeba are perfect for each other. I wonder why they did not think of Mushq but then given Mushq’s track record they probably did not want to jinx this rishta.
This episode was definitely better than the previous one. There is something about Firdous Jamal that you can not help but feel the chemistry he has with his younger male co-stars as in Kisay Chahoon with Ali abbas and now with Ahmed Ali. I love Dadi’s character, such a positive loving matriarch. Her Dabbu Chabbu comment really made me laugh.
I may cause a few raised eyebrows with this comment and mine are halfway there (maybe), but I like Mera Yaar Miladay so far. True, it is no cliffhanger, not a story with mind boggling twists and turns but I like how it is not very intense (minus Master Sb’s ever impending heart attacks!) and makes for an easy watch.
The preview for next week showed Master Sb becoming suspicious that Fahd knows Dabbu and I suppose that will cause problems. I do not want to see too much of Aslam Bhai, his scenes with Dabbu do not seem to add much to the story although I believe they are meant to. I do have a niggling thought and would love if anyone could enlighten me – where exactly is Mushq’s room?! No matter which corner of the house Fahad is in or out for that matter, Zeba shows up but how does he manage to have all these clandestine meetings with Mushq by the bedroom window without anyone spotting him?

How many of you watched this episode? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Mann Mayal – Episode 8

This was an extremely depressing episode. I love Talat Hussain’s acting but watching this old man dependent on people who don’t have an ounce of sympathy for him even was just plain upsetting. The whole diaper scene was unnecessary, stretched and it was in bad taste. Kuki and Jamil’s attitude and intentions have been made clear by the writer through different scenes and Ifty’s father’s helplessness is quite clear too therefore covering every single aspect of his life from food to diaper change was simply pointless! Ifty’s father is perfectly fine mentally and now with Salahuddin around he has a good opportunity to call a lawyer and change his will but even then he stays dependent on his son. Also, wouldn’t he be better off alone? I just hope that we are watching this particular track in the story for a good reason and it has some relevance to how the story unfolds in the future.

mm

Tonight’s episode opened with a conversation between Mikael and a brand new Mannu. Through this conversation the viewers found out why Mikael married Mannu. Which made me wonder why couldn’t Mikael make changes in his own personality to please his parents? Mikael has been shown as one of those men who think that their wife is like a toy which he brought into the house to please his parents and at the same time he wants Mannu to party with him. Accepting something like drinking and gambling is very difficult for any girl who has not seen her father or brothers do these kinds of things therefore  watching Mannu accept all these thing until her Mother In Law gave her a lecture was actually shocking and very difficult to relate to. Also, it seemed like Mannu’s Mother In Law was more than willing to change her in the last episode but now she misses the old Mannu. All these changes and then Mannu’s telephonic conversation with her family confused me about the timeline. How long has it been since Mannu got married? Chachi has changed, Sara Baji was expecting therefore a lot had changed in her house. Also, why hadn’t she talked to her family in such a long time? Usually girls stay in touch with their family even after getting married. If Mannu could call Salahuddin because she felt lonely then why couldn’t she call her mother? The only good thing about this scene was the way Mannu missed her old life while talking to her family, other than that it seems really odd when it is shown in our dramas that girls lose all contact with family once they get married. Even after all this time (not sure how much time) Salahuddin’s parents are still not talking to him and they are completely out of the picture.

mm1

Mannu’s dialogue “mei unhe dhoka nahi de sakti “ was not in line with her character at all. When Mikael asked her to give his parents the impression that she was still the same old person Mannu said she couldn’t do that because that would be like betraying their trust. Isn’t Mannu giving her own family dhoka? Would her family approve of her present lifestyle? Mannu’s character is getting more confusing with every passing episode. There are a lot of reasons why she would be clueless but why isn’t she turning towards her family for help or advice? Chachi did not let Sara go back to her husband because of a minor issue therefore it is quite likely that she would take a stand for Mannu if she ever found out what was going on. Everything that Mannu’s Mother In Law said was very true but then it is too late for confessions!

mm3

There were absolutely no ‘happy moments’ in this episode and it was sad to see a girl like Mannu changing herself with every advice she got only to please people. While I am not happy with the recent changes in Mannu’s character, I am very impressed with Maya Ali’s acting. Hamza Ali Abbasi was also spot on in all the scenes and especially the one in which he walks out of Ifty’s house. All the actors did their part well in tonight’s episode but the recent developments were just plain depressing and disappointing. Mannu and Salahuddin’s love story seems like ancient history now and their present life doesn’t have anything positive to offer. The play has lost its filmy touch as well, it has turned into a very realistic play with shadi shuda aur naukri pesha zindagi ke maslay! The preview of the next episode suggested that our hero and heroine’s troubles are far from over.

Bhai – Episodes 12 – 13

Chalo jee, Hammad nay lipstick kay saath saath lagta hai churiyan bhi pehn rakhi hain! I could not help snicker at how Ifra stood up to defend Hammad and even after she told Ashraf off, Hammad still stood behind her till Ashraf left! In that moment of madness, I will admit I could see why Ashraf said she was ‘auraton ki Ashraf’ except, oh wait, she was defending Hammad. Ah well, need I spell it out. And cherry on top – Hammad is ‘rukhsatofied’ to Ifra’s house. I know he was sent so that Ashraf could not do him any harm but it still made me laugh.

bhai1

Anyhow, we see Ashraf ‘heartbroken’, sulking and uncharacteristically quiet. There were a lot of repetitive scenes with Ashraf insisting his parents could have prevented the nikkah from happening and how they have always favoured Hammad over him. I kept waiting for Ashraf to erupt, wreak havoc but nothing seemed to happen until he overheard Saira declaring her love to Ebad on the phone. He then vows that if he did not get the ‘love of his life’ he would make sure nobody else in his family would. When he speaks to Jawad about marriage to Saira and the way Jawad’s face fell, it confirmed my suspicions that he likes Rabab after that scene earlier when Rabab is watering the plants and they exchange smiles. I kept thinking Rabab would speak up when Shakeela tells her daughters that Manzoor has said that if Saira will not marry Jawad then Rabab will have to. I thought Rabab liked him too and that would have solved that problem right there but maybe I was mistaken.

Ebad is able to convince his parents to go to Saira’s house with his rishta. Ashraf is suspicious and bursts in on the scene and in his characteristic way sends them packing. It was almost comical how Ashraf bent down to peer into Ebad’s face and then grabbed him, messing up his carefully made ‘cheerum’ (maang) and suit! I wondered at Khadija earlier encouraging Saira to ‘befriend’ Ebad and thought why would she do that when she knows Ashraf will probably rip Saira apart when he finds out. But she manages to convince her mother to have Ebad send his parents under the impression that ‘rishtay wali khala’ arranged the meeting.

I know Ashraf was despicable when he egged on Sufiyan and had Khadija divorced and his anger towards his sisters was also excessive but I did not really hate Ashraf yet because the light moments of his ‘romaaaaance’ made me laugh. But the way he dragged Saira down the stairs was awful and oh my God, how many times has he almost strangled her?! I have lost count. I could not help noticing each time though how Saboor Ali looked like a poor duck having its neck wrung! So now, choosni is locked up. As usual, Hammad was not there during the whole rishta and punishment scene. Seems like everything happens during his working hours.

bhai2

I suppose this is Ashraf’s plan now. After wallowing in self pity, he has risen now to make everyone who ‘schemed’ against him pay. I am surprised he has not done anything truly nasty to Hammad yet. I felt for Shakeela today, torn between trying to do right by all her children and thought that Seemi Raheel has done justice to her character.

I know we often say so and so episode seemed like a filler – I feel like Rabab is a filler! I am not sure what her role has been so far besides covering her head and looking up from lowered eyes like a gazelle.

bhai4

Maha Warsi seems to have taken a backseat now that she has gotten married. Overall, these two episodes were just okay with the first being a bit slow with the ‘calm before the storm’ and then Ashraf finally erupting. I wonder if we have seen the last of Ebad now. Hammad had said he had total faith in Saira and I wonder how he will react to the whole Ebad-Saira scenario for if he becomes a ‘ghairat mand’ brother then would that not be double standards for he wooed Ifra too. I hope the rest of the drama does not focus on the extremes Ashraf will go to exact his revenge. Did you watch these two episodes of Bhai? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Tere Mere Beech – Episode 16!

Ohkay so, this episode of Tere Mere Beech was torturous to say the least but I think the note at which it ended saved the day & stopped this drama from getting ruined for me. This episode was torturous not because of Hareem but because of Zahida, Nadia, Sadia & also the ghost appearance of Nighat which obviously did the trick & left a bad taste in the mouth but then can you expect anything good or positive from the ghosts who only show up to haunt people?

Nighat’s self-pity is continuing in her grave as well, that is why she decided to show up again & taunt Hareem. Why does late Nighat & now her current ghost always insist on the fact that Hareem should understand how hard it must’ve been on Nighat to give her daughter away? Why can’t Nighat The Ghost understand that no, she can not expect an infant to understand the crime her mother committed by handing the child over to someone else without giving her a fair bit of a justification. Just because Nighat felt that Hareem could have ‘packet ka doodh’ she thought she was eligible to be given away? It is absolutely ridiculous. I feel like smacking Nighat every single time she says that Hareem should understand whereas she should be the one doing ALL the understanding & forcing her good-for-nothing, filled-with-venom daughters to understand their sister Hareem too because she lead a disturbed life by juggling between two failed & confused to the core mothers!!!

Oh well, I so wish when Qadeer attacked Shabbir’s car, Zahida had gone for a ride with her husband too because honestly speaking, her character is useless, like legit useless because she has no contribution, nor in the story neither in anyone’s life. Also, if Zahida got lucky before, I wish that now Nighat pulls Zahida into the limbo where she herself resides because the amount of screaming, yelling, crying, caterwauling & moaning this woman does is absolutely annoying.

I really wish in stead of coming out of her grave to taunt Hareem, Nighat had contacted her ‘phor’ daughter Sadia & taught her a thing or two about managing household chores. I am glad that Nighat’s khush fehmi must have gone down the drain by seeing that her perfect daughter wasn’t so perfect after all because she couldn’t do anything on her own. Also, I wish someone would pull the annoying curled flick of Zahida & pin it up at the back of her scalp because seems like nothing survived in this drama but the curls of her hair. Everything about Zahida is so OTT that it is not even funny. I think it would’ve been better if she had pinned up her curls & decided to become a mother to Sadia & Hareem in stead of just crying in an annoying voice, demanding a cup of tea from Hareem like she was a guest & then putting all the blame on Hareem for everything that went wrong.

If Zahida is OTT then Nadia & Sadia are competing in that pageant too because looks like when Nighat passed away, she passed on her annoyance as an inheritance to both Nadia & Sadia. I hated the way they kept on blaming Hareem for everything possible. Why didn’t Nadia tell Sadia that she must’ve been irresponsible herself to burn her hand so badly? Why were they dragging Hareem into everything? Also, the way Zahida lost sight of Hareem & then started blaming her made me dislike her even more. Hareem is suffering from depression because no one is understanding what she is going through, no one understands the love-hate relationship she had with Nighat & how deeply she is hurt by Fahad’s absence, they think it is ohkay to taunt her & question her as to why she cries while remembering her mother? Hareem must be suffering from a mere depression, but they all have become psychos themselves & psychopathy is lailaaj!

It was funny to see Ali’s mother & brother popping out of nowhere after I guess a decade? I guess the director must’ve called them to show up in order to welcome the VVIP guest Sadia who Nadia brought into her house without even notifying her mother in law. I guess Nadia was quite conscious of the likes & dislikes of her MIL but the way she is doing everything independetly is quite unconvincing. Also, how old is Asad? 12 years or may be 10? He doesn’t have anything productive to do? I am sure now Nadia won’t mind the blooming chemistry between Asad & Sadia & she’d be rooting for their marriage too. I am so tired of seeing the furrowed brows of Sadia & augmented lips of Nadia but sadly, all their conversations are unnecessarily long & intolerable. They are just as useless as Zahida!!!

I guess Hareem will get 3rd time lucky because now she will come across a woman who will actually become a mother to her, guide & counsel her the best way possible. Hina Bayat’s addition to this drama at this stage seems promising & refreshing. The preview of the next episode suggested that the clan of psychopaths will assume that Hareem is officially out of their lives & I am thanking the writer for this twist because it means they won’t be able to play the blame-game anymore & will be gone from Hareem’s life for good. I can’t wait to see what positive influence Hina Bayat’s character will have on Hareem’s life & what changes will her counselling bring in Hareem’s personality. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Tere Mere Beech!

Aabro – Episode 13!

Ohkay so, this episode of Aabro was all about more sufferings that Ali & Aabro had to endure because of Ali’s parents & I think it’s about time that their pain should lessen because there’s a limit to everything & they have filled enough episodes with their misfortune already. Time to show something positive at least.

Abid & Fauzia got married & both Ali & Aabro were treated like strangers because it has been made very clear that Ali’s parents are not going to forgive Ali & Aabro anytime soon. I really thought that may be Fauzia will try to make Zubaida understand that she shouldn’t get so worked up at Ali & Aabro’s presence but seems like she herself is following the footsteps of her mother & her aunt. I was kind of disappointed to see Fauzia’s behavior. She made one of those brides who can become the talk of the town because of their never-ending frown. Like itna gham kyun hai Fauzia ko bhai??? Can someone please explain??? Ali & her chapter should be a water under the bridge for Fauzia but seems like she is fooling Abid by still being stuck in the past & being heart-broken at her failed engagement with Ali.

Abid is a really nice guy. He not only tried to bring some harmony among his family members but he proved that he will stand by Ali’s side no matter what everyone else says. He invited Ali for the dinner & even treated Aabro with respect too. I think Fauzia should follow her husband’s footsteps because they are going towards a right & a better direction, at least better than where her mother & her aunt’s footsteps will take her!!!

Aabro & Ali had a baby girl & things got difficult for them even more because they found no help from anyone in Ali’s family. I really really like Sakina’s character, I think Sakina & Abid’s characters are the most rational ones in the lot of all these people who are suffering from hormonal imbalances of some sort. I really liked the scene where Sakina calculated how she had to pay back some of her loans but the moment she heard about her granddaughter, she forgot about everything. Sakina proves that it really doesn’t matter how much money you have or what your financial status is, you have everything if you have humanity. Yes, Sakina is going out of the way for Aabro because she happens to be her daughter but Sakina also suffered the same pain that Zubaida went through, so why can’t Zubaida forgive Ali that too at a stage where he himself has become a father & needs her blessings the most? Fauzia is expecting a baby too & I am sure, she will be milking it more in order to gain sympathies & khidmaat of everyone around her, because she knows that Zubaida will do everything for her. I wish someone had told Fauzia to wear a longer trouser because the length of those black trousers was quite odd!!!

Sadly Ali & Aabro didn’t get any forgiveness & things won’t be easy for them because the preview suggested that Shahida’s evil mind will come up with a suggestion of using Aabro as a substitute of a maid. I really think they are pushing it a bit too far by showing this level of inconsideration & it was actually quite bizarre to see everyone’s cold reaction at the news of Aabro’s new born too. At least, I am glad that Ali decided to put some sense into his mother’s empty head that she should forgive Aabro & Ali because they have suffered a lot already but I am sure it would take a lot for a stone-hearted woman like Zubaida to change her attitude. What I really find annoying is that even Zafar doesn’t tell his wife to cut Ali & Aabro some slack, like seriously, fathers are a bit easy-going & Zafar actually knows that it was Zubaida’s insistence that forced Ali to go to such extremes, so at least he can show some consideration & tell his wife off but he adds more fuel to the fire which is annoying!

I think this drama is now taking things a bit too far & it is no fun to watch Ali’s family’s tyranny. Also, I think if there’s one thing this drama teaches, it is that everyone should cherish the food they get to eat every single day because they really never know when a woman like Zubaida might start snatching things away & starts taunting for using a bit too much salan, doodh, dabal roti etc, yeah I said dabal roti deliberately to show how hideous does it seem to see them fighting like puppies (who didn’t get their fair share of bones) over the food. Anyways, I think in this episode both Noor Hassan & Maheen Fayyaz really convinced me with their acting, they really conveyed the sufferings of Ali & Aabro to perfection & I really felt for them. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Aabro!!!

Dil Lagi – Episode 2

Mohid is another one of those bad guys we see in our drama serials often enough who will do anything to get the girl he loves. I was really hoping that this character will be more dignified but unfortunately Mohid is also one of those men who think that a woman’s feelings don’t matter and that it is alright to force someone to spend the rest of their life with you. In tonight’s episode Mohid focused all his energy towards ‘pursuing’ Anmol in every way possible. I must say that tonight’s episode did remind of drama serial Bhai yet again and Bashar Momin too. Mohid is judged by Anmol and her family based on his actions just like Bhai and Bashar Momin’s characters. He is a ‘ghunda’, he does not deserve any respect no matter what he does to prove that he is not such a bad person after all, he will always end up doing something which will not be ‘sharif’ enough! I enjoyed the scene in which Mohid ‘gatecrashed’ Anmol’s engagement ceremony. It was filmy but it was also funny and Hamayun Saeed’s acting was spot on in that particular scene. Anmol’s expressions suggested that she wasn’t very happy with this engagement but at the same time she wouldn’t have wanted everything to end like this. Mohid has fallen head over heels in love with Anmol overnight, something we have seen in our dramas often enough therefore I am not complaining! He will do anything to make sure that Anmol does not get married to anyone else and he will continue following her too!

dillagi1

Anas was mentioned in tonight’s episode over and over again but I guess the viewers will only see him in the next episode. Unlike the last episode this episode did not focus on Anmol alone but Mohid and his family got a lot of screen time too. Anmol is used to fighting her own battles and she is not waiting for a man to save her. We saw Anmol’s slightly compromising side in this episode and I was surprised that she didn’t hit Mohid after what he did!! I couldn’t help but wonder though that why wasn’t a wise and street smart girl like her able to tell why Mohid was following her? Why didn’t she tell him off when she saw him staring at her? And most importantly why didn’t she realize that Mohid’s mother must have come with the proposal when her mentioned that someone came to their house for the said purpose on the same day Mohid told her that his mother will be coming to her house?? And why is Anmol so stunned and incapable of giving a fitting reply every time Mohid makes a pass at her? The ‘relationship’ between Mohid and Anmol is not working for me so far because Anmol is giving this man ‘special treatment’ even though she does not like him.

dillagi2

Saba Hameed yet again made her presence felt in tonight’s episode. I find her character very interesting and I absolutely love the way she has translated it on screen. One can see why a woman like her would not marry her only daughter! She probably cannot find a man who is good enough for her daughter or she thinks that her daughter cannot handle marriage/a husband just yet. She is however more than willing to marry her son off as quickly as possible and she knows her son very well too. The relationship between Mohid and his mother and the one between Imran Ashraf’s character and Mohid is right now keeping my interest alive in this drama. The chemistry between Imran Ashraf and Hamayun Saeed makes their scenes a treat to watch. Imran Ashraf completely owns his character in this drama unlike his character in Gul-e-Rana. Mohid’s character had the potential of being charming but I guess that is highly unlikely now since he comes across as an older version of Adeel. All through tonight’s episode and the previous episode as well I felt like there was more of Mehwish Hayat in this drama than Anmol.

Some of the dialogues in tonight’s episode were very witty and I enjoyed the comic bits too. The best thing about this episode was that it was free of clichés. Mohid’s mother did not complain about the class difference, in fact she did not even mention it. There are some very strong women in this play; Anmol, Mishal and Mohid’s mother are strong women who believe in speaking their mind. Out of all these three however my favorite so far is Mohid’s mother although she is far from perfect. She does tell married women to get an equal status but at the same time her own son enjoys a status far superior than that of her daughter. Dil Lagi hasn’t completely won me over yet, I was definitely expecting more from this drama. The preview of the next episode showed Mohid’s first encounter with Anas after Anmol made him believe that she was in love with this man.

Gul-e-Rana – Episode 18

Today’s episode was really special because Asher ‘bhai’ got cake with chai ;) This episode like many of the previous episodes of Gul-e-Rana had a lot of filler scenes but the story is moving forward gradually. Tonight we saw the twist which many of the viewers already knew about and were probably looking forward to also. While Asher’s murder was yet another dream, Adeel’s accident was a reality which will change everything for Rana who wants to start afresh. I must say that Mehmood Akhtar was brilliant in tonight’s episode. I couldn’t help but feel everything his character was going through. His portrayal of a father who couldn’t see his son suffering was effortless. But certain steps taken by him just like always made me wonder if he really was as wise and loving as the writer wants us to believe he is. Adeel’s father now knows exactly what happened with Rana when she was living with Adeel but he still asks her to go and stay with him, something which did not make a lot of sense. And then dialogues like “mei tumharay liye surprise lene gaya tha” made the situation even worse. Adeel’s reaction was more of shock than surprise! I felt that this particular development was not handled very intelligently. Rana’s reluctance to help the man who gave her nothing but pain was portrayed perfectly by Sajjal Ali but the background music during all those scenes was painfully loud, unnecessary and distracting. In the last episode Adeel was supposed to be in another country and in this episode he was back in Pakistan. The timeline in this episode had me confused because Rana’s life hadn’t moved forward much in this episode but Adeel went to another country and came back in what seemed like a day.

gr1

Asher and Rana’s relationship got more screen time in tonight’s episode than anything else. Although Adeel’s accident should have been the ‘highlight’ of tonight’s episode but the scenes between Rana and Asher coupled with Rana’s concern for Asher made this episode more about Asher than anything else. Imran Ashraf plays the tough guy flawlessly; his acting was superb in Sadqay Tumhare, it is convincing in Aabro and he did complete justice to his role in the first episode of Dil Lagi too but unfortunately his portrayal of a sweet man (his conversations with Rana on the phone and the smirk on his face when Rana tells him not to talk about death) is not the least bit impressive. The viewers still don’t know whether Asher knows that he has a very serious disease or not because there was mention of blood cancer in only two episodes but then we never saw Asher going to a doctor unless Rana’s company is the cure for his ailment! Asher has feelings for Rana and he is due to get married very soon but we don’t see him making any effort to stay away from the girl he loves. The writer obviously expected the viewers to feel for Asher but I am finding it very hard to feel anything for his character. It would have been much better if he helped Rana like a brother instead of betraying her trust like this. If he has feelings for Rana, he should try to keep his distance because she is married and he is going to get married very soon. This latest development in the story just proves Adeel right, other than that it does not help the story in any way.

Rana’s mother was completely out of the picture once again. Maria has done her part and now she has vanished from the scene too! Characters disappear from this drama whenever they are not needed and when they are needed to take the story forward they appear like they are the most important characters in the play! Rana’s mother at least should get some screen time in every episode since she lives in the same house. All the actors performed really well in tonight’s episode but unfortunately overall none of the developments had an impact. The preview of the next episode did not give me much to look forward to because it seemed like nothing about Rana and Adeel’s relationship will change anytime soon. The scenes in the preview looked highly repetitive and not the least bit exciting.

Sehra Main Safar – Episode 11 & 12!

Ohkay so, what am I supposed to say about these two episodes of Sehra Mein Safar. I feel all the events that took place & all the things based on which the story is being taken forward are forced & unconvincing to be honest. The other day I read a quote which said “never underestimate a woman’s intuition because she can recognize your game even before you play it”, & here we have our dear writers who are bent on showing us such women who have nothing to do with a sense of intuition because they are either stupid or downright dumb or they become stupid & downright dumb the moment they meet their imperfect prince charming!!!

Iqra got married but yes, the conversation her parents had with her before they sent her off was emotional & done really well. All the girls go through that phase when their parents tell them about how special their daughters are for them & the daughters might misunderstand their parents but they can never evaluate the love their parents have for them. Iqra’s father told her about the savings her mother did for her & it was the first reality check that Iqra received which marked the downfall of her life hence forth!

Well, Iqra got married & was on cloud 9 because she got the man of her dreams only to find out that he was a man of her nightmares. Shehryaar didn’t take too long to leave an honest impression on her that he wants to have a smooth life filled with material & he wouldn’t mind getting a financial help from his wife. Like always, there’s this other woman involved in Shehryaar’s life too & as much as they showed they both aren’t married yet but Ainee (Anoushay) isn’t worried about the fact that Shehryaar has gotten married because it seems they both have a proper planning in their minds regarding their future & Ainee is ready to help Shehryaar in any way possible.

As far as I could deduce, Ainee doesn’t have a sound background too & she works in a parlor herself. Ainee believes that she can live with Shehryaar no matter what his financial status must be but Shehryaar tells her to wait for a little longer because he already has started working on the plan her has for their secure future, which I’m sure revolves around mooching off of his wife Iqra. Shehryaar doesn’t mind shamelessly stealing his wife’s phone & gifting it to his girlfriend Ainee to which she reacts like she has hit a jackpot. It is ridiculous that Shehryaar says to Iqra that he doesn’t believe in living a life of slaves where the husband has to do the heavy lifting & a wife gets to stay indoors & lead a comfortable life but can’t Shehryaar already see that his life will be exactly the same if he will get married to Ainee because she doesn’t seem educate enough to support Sherhyaar equally when they will get married.

Iqra gets another reality check when she finds out that Shehryaar doesn’t own the apartment where they live & has to pay installments for both the house & the car too. Iqra doesn’t want to continue with her job for which Shehryaar pressurizes her & Iqra comes up with a brilliant plan of selling her gold to help ease Shehryaar’s frustrations & not only that, she tells him about the savings her parents have done for her too, which again I found totally unreasonable & unconvincing. Iqra has worked in an office environment for a considerable amount of time & she has dealt with a lot of people too, so I find it immature of her to not being able to see where Shehryaar is headed with all the portrayal of himself as a halaat ka mara who is finding it hard to earn a decent living for himself & his wife? Iqra already has understood that Shehryaar kept her in the dark about a lot of things so how can she trust him with her jewelry & money that too so soon? Yes, she is acting like a good wife who believes in transparency between herself & her husband but then, why do the writers turn our female leads into dumb zombies who lose their brains & logic the moment they get engaged or married?

When Iqra cried & realized what she has done to herself, I really thought she will plan on helping Shehryaar by resuming her job because that’s what he was asking her to do but to see her coming up with such a ridiculous idea of helping him with her jewelry & money was totally absurd & unconvincing. How long does Iqra think this money of hers will last? How many installments would her jewelry & savings cover? Shehryaar has flipped immediately & everything about him has changed where he is telling her openly about how stingy he is when it comes to money, so why can’t Iqra see that there’s a major problem rather than trusting in him blindly? It was good to see that Iqra found out about another one of Shehryaar’s lies through Shazia that he hasn’t joined the office yet & I want to see if Iqra will continue to believe in him or not? The preview however did suggest that Iqra will find out more about Shehryaar & may be Ayaaz will pop out of nowhere to seep through the idea in Iqra’s mind that he is still available & is still an option that is left for her. Let’s see what more do they have to show us!

Well, I believe the story has gone from average to worse in these two episodes because the way the writer is ‘punishing’ Iqra for getting married to the man she loved against her parent’s wishes is so not justified. Iqra was an ideal daughter who helped her mother throughout her life where she never demanded anything unreasonable from her parents as she wasn’t indifferent to their financial status & then Iqra extended even more help to her father when his life hit the rock bottom, so I really find it bizarre that just because the writer wants to show that the best & the only suitable partner for a girl ever would be her pupho ka beta, she is punishing Iqra for going against the norms & choosing to marry a guy she loves who doesn’t happen to be her pupho ka beta unfortunately. I want the writer to know that not every working woman’s life is so messed up, not every working woman chooses the worst guy for herself & not every working woman has such low IQ where she blindly trust the wrong people. This drama sadly is so full of clichés that’s it is not even funny. Another great example of a clichéd punishment that the writer has picked up for Iqra is to show that her husband already has a girlfriend & he isn’t loyal to her…like seriously, all this is being showed just to make a point that Iqra is a transgressor who didn’t go with what her parents chose for her & sinned by choosing a husband for herself whom she fell in love with before marriage? I can already see that Iqra’s life will continue to get worse where she will be forced to divorce Shehryaar & marry the ideal Pupho ka Beta Ayaaz!!! Please share your thoughts about these two episodes of Sehra Main Safar.

Cheers,

Bhai – An Overview

After I kept hearing how interesting Bhai is, I decided to give the drama a second chance. I say second chance, because I watched a bit of the first episode when it aired but after the bird scene and seeing both Saboor Ali and Maha Warsi in one drama (yes I am not a big fan of either), I lost interest. But my curiosity was aroused when I kept hearing how it is definitely worth a watch and seeing as I have always liked Noman Ijaz, I watched the 10 episodes online and my verdict? It is worth a watch – so far, at least.

Directed and produced by Shoaib Khan and written by Afifa Mahmood, Bhai airs on A Plus every Saturday and Sunday night. Bhai is the story of Ashraf (Noman Ijaz) who is the eldest son of Manzoor Ahmed (Salman Shahid) and Shakeela (Seemi Raheel). Ashraf is the ‘councillor’ of the mohalla and thrives on everyone fearing him, including his siblings. His brother Hammad (Affan Waheed) is his total opposite and is educated and does not approve of Ashraf’s ways. The three sisters Khadija (Zoya Malik), Rabab and Saira (Saboor Ali) are constantly being yelled at, bullied and even beaten up on occasion by Ashraf. I know that Ashraf is the eldest child but he seemed to look much older than the rest of the siblings and flashbacks in the later episodes did not seem to suggest there was much of an age difference between Ashraf and Hammad but looking at Noman Ijaz and Affan Waheed I would beg to differ.

Khadija has been nikkofied to her phuppo’s son Sufiyan (Imran Bukhari) and they are shown to be interested in each other. Ashraf ends up getting his sister divorced by bullying Sufiyan as well, who egged on by Ashraf and in a fit of anger divorces Khadija. So that saw the end of Sufiyan and his low slung jeans.

Enter the professor who has just moved into the mohalla and Ashraf instantly falls in love with the professor’s daughter Ifra (Maha Warsi). Even though Ashraf is absolutely horrid but the way he sets out to woo Ifra and his dialogues were hilarious. What was even more hilarious was how Ashraf was acting on the advice dished out by his cousin Jawad (Adnan Shah Tipu) who was giving him tips as if he were the mohalla’s Casanova! The dil wala locket, the phool wali shirts, blue shades all did not have any effect on Ifra who only rebuked Ashraf’s advances who in turn is even more charmed by her and declares she is ‘auraton ki Ashraf’!

Hammad and Ifra meet at the university and fall in love. Hammad is aware of his brother’s interest in Ifra and knows that he has sent a proposal which has been turned down. Ashraf asks his parents to go speak to Ifra’s parents for his rishta and with Ifra issuing Hammad an ultimatum that he send his parents with the rishta or she is leaving the town for good, Hammad speaks to his parents. Long story short, Manzoor and Shakeela go to Ifra’s house to ask for her hand in marriage to Ashraf but end up returning home after having Ifra’s baat pakki to Hammad instead. As expected and feared, all hell breaks loose and Ashraf causes a total uproar. His goons beat up Hammad and we are given an insight into Ashraf’s childhood through flashbacks.

Apparently Ashraf blames his family for his uncouth ways and for making him the way he is. When he was younger he did not do well at school and would get beaten up by his father and watch resentfully how Hammad was a goody two shoes and showered more love and affection because he would study hard. I think we are meant to sympathize with Ashraf here because yes, all those beatings were out of order but to say resentment for his younger brother is what turned him into a total animal who lashes out and controls his sisters to the point of suffocation was a bit much I thought. I know childhood experiences scar you for life and have a huge impact on the kind of person you grow up to be but I will not get into all of that because that delves deep into touchy topics such as parenting and psychology and every other person has a different opinion which is fine and seeing that that is not the purpose of my review – I will stop here.

Saira is allowed (reluctantly) to enrol in a university and there she meets Waqar Younis ka bhai, I mean, Ebad (Rohail Pirzada). Saira is shaken after witnessing an unpleasant incident at university so Ebad insists on dropping Saira home. Jawad sees them and Ebad is beaten up by Ashraf. Ebad belongs to an affluent family and his mamoo is an SP who has Ashraf thrown into jail. Taking advantage of Ashraf being locked up, Ifra and Hammad’s families make quick plans to have their nikkah take place. The way Hammad and his sisters shop and laugh without the grumpy shadow of Ashraf lurking around seemed so natural and real. Even Manzoor seemed to be swept up in the light mood with his ‘duja vya’ comment.

The episode ends with Ashraf being released from jail (after Saira asks Ebad to drop charges) and showing up at the nikkah. I did wonder at Ifra’s parent’s sensibility in agreeing to marriage with Hammad after knowing very well what Ashraf is like and how crazily in ‘love’ he is. But Hammad’s plan to move away and take Ifra with him seemed to pacify them. I still think though that the more sensible thing would have been for the professor to go along with his plans of moving away with his wife and daughter but then that would have nipped the story in the bud and we would have been ‘deprived’ of witnessing Ashraf’s uproar.

I am new to this whole review writing and normally do not have much to comment on about the script but I could not help thinking while watching the drama at how hilarious Ashraf’s dialogues were. The story would have probably been quite average if it were not for the cast and by that I mean, primarily Noman Ijaz. He is superb as Bhai – I know we hate him but his Dabbang fascination, his expressions, his dialogues, his discomfort in his angrezi clothes, referring to Hammad’s car as being sat in a ‘sabundani’, referring to his siblings as chee chee, choosni, laddu, all made me laugh. I could not understand what is going on with Salman Shahid though. I was unable to decipher what he was saying quite a few times and I am not referring to the Punjabi because I understood that just fine – his speech was just quite unclear at times and it made me think he was overdoing his bit . I used to quite like Affan Waheed’s acting but he keeps being cast as the sensitive, soft spoken guy so he does not have much to offer here. Maybe if he focused less on his makeup? Ashraf had such issues with his sister’s ‘laal buliyan’ – I guess the same rule does not apply to the men in the family!

Maha Warsi and Saboor Ali were bearable – and that in itself speaks highly of the director. Seemi Raheel has played such roles before and I thought she portrayed well the emotions of a mother who feels for all her children whether they are right or wrong. I felt so bad for the child who played young Ashraf though. In his few moments of fame, all the poor child got was beaten up endlessly!

I liked the little things that made the execution of the drama different. The credits at the end in urdu, the switch between scenes, the OST that does not give away every aspect of the story. I did however find the layout of Ashraf’s house a bit odd, especially his room in its ‘hey it’s a baby boy’ color scheme.

There! I have tried to cover as much as I could in the overview. The preview for the next episode showed Ashraf roughing up Hammad and later his mother crying and saying she does not know where Ashraf has gone. Will he leave his parent’s house or stay around and cause further havoc? How are you all liking Bhai so far? Please do share your thoughts!

Kisay Chahoon – Episodes 11 & 12

So, these two episodes were about Hamza-Mareena and Ameer-Mehru with a bit too much of Shakra (Hamza’s mother) in one episode doing her gasping, weeping bit. Hamza and Mareena are back from their honeymoon and Hamza comes to visit his mother. I am the sort who tears up when contestants are kicked out in programmes such as The Voice but Hamza’s ‘emotional’ scene with his mother was anything but. All I could think was keh bhayee, all is right with the world again. It had appeared in the earlier episodes that Shaheen Khan had finally landed a role where she was not the silly, weeping woman she is in every other drama and I felt odd, like the world had moved on and I had missed something. Apparently not. She was her usual senseless, weeping self today. True, Shakra had not anticipated that her husband would die so soon but she had really pushed Hamza to marry Mareena and when she said how can you leave your mother alone now, I could only shake my head.

When Hamza and Mareena leave his house, they run into Mehru and Ameer outside. I found Mareena’s initial interest in Mehru a bit misplaced and strange how she was so  eager to be introduced to her. Since Ameer knows all, Mehru has nothing to hide and she also does not really care what he thinks so says what she pleases. However, Hamza has been cagey about his past and Mehru’s double edged comments make Mareena suspicious.

I sat with such a silly smile on my face and so engrossed during the whole ‘Ameer getting beaten up and Mehru taking care of him’ scenario that I just about managed to connect back with the real world in time to rescue the chicken tikkas I had on the stove from turning into halwa! I loved how Ameer gets annoyed by the men ogling Mehru and the way he says Mehru Ji and his voice raises a notch when she argues and he confronts the men and then Mehru takes care of him and and and…you get the  idea!

Like Ameer, I had begun to think Mehru was, if not falling in love just yet but at least beginning to accept her marriage and make an effort but just like Ameer, I too was snapped rudely out of that bubble. Mehru makes it clear that since she can not (does not) want to go back to her father’s house and Hamza is not an option anymore then she wants to stay with Ameer but only until she can finally support herself and then she will take her leave from Ameer too. She makes it clear she is not asking for his permission and that if he were to stand in her way then she would just leave him now.

I feel for Ameer, I do and I admit Mehru is a bit too harsh with him especially when she slapped him in the earlier episodes but if I am to be fair, I can not blame Mehru for thinking the way she is right now. Well, sort of. Her father played with her emotions and pretty much bullied her into marrying Ameer. Hamza was hardly a pillar of support before her nikkah to Ameer and although she was silly and rash and well it was wrong to tell Hamza that nothing had changed and she was going to get a divorce from Ameer and marry Hamza but when he married Mareena, Mehru felt that Hamza had let her down. I am in no way endorsing her actions but I can see how Mehru would believe that she has been wronged. That is why we do not see Mehru thinking about him whereas Hamza is running around like a headless chicken trying to retrieve the shirts Mehru had gifted him and hanging onto her memories.

To be honest I did think it was a bit too sudden how Mehru would suddenly change and accept Ameer as her husband and everything would be hunky dory. I can relate more easily to her accepting her circumstances for now and trying to keep things as pleasant as possible with Ameer without giving him any false hopes for the time that she is staying with him.

I also do not understand Mehru’s father. At times he gives the impression of a father who is doing what he truly believes is right for his daughter and he seems concerned when she does not visit him and asks how she is. But then his conversations with Ameer about her are strange. I know he believes Ameer is a gem of a person but purposely saying things to sort of make him behave less nicely towards Mehru is a bit weird.

Watching Mareena is well, exhausting. There is definitely some split/multiple personality disorder scene going on here. I could digest the rich, spoilt brat but the way she switches from smiling Mareena to scary screeching Mareena is doing my head in. I do not even know what to write about Hamza and Mareena because it was just the same scene playing out over and over again. In short: Bubbly smiling Mareena – Hamza says something (read: puts foot in his mouth) – Mareena’s eyes narrow or widen, doesn’t matter which one as both actions imply she is angry – Mareena yells, pushes, hits, flounces or all rolled into one – Hamza manaofying Mareena. And replay. Waisay, I have often seen the ‘lipstick rubbing all over your face’ scene in quite a few dramas and for the life of me have never understood it and the philosophy behind it. I am sure it is something very deep (dripping sarcasm) but I do not care to know.

Anyhow, so either Hamza will be able to ‘change’ Mareena or Mareena will finally take the plunge from borderline mental to full time mental or- and this seems to be the least likely possibility – both will find each other midway and live happily ever after.

Whatever Hamza and Mareena end up doing I do not care for much, as my interest lies in Ameer. Well, I mean Ameer and Mehru, of course. I think! I can not praise Ali Abbas enough for how he has really made us feel for Ameer. Sonia Hussain is perfect as Mehru especially as there were no crying scenes in these two episodes.  Overall, I find the pace at which the story is moving to be good. I know Mehru finally falling in love with Ameer would be a predictable end but I really would not want it any other way. As I have said before, the story does not seem to offer anything new but the direction and cast has really made it stand out.

Right! Time to do a ‘jee’ detox! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on these two episodes!

Judai – Episode 4

So this episode saw the demise of Hassan which obviously did not come as a surprise as previews from two weeks ago had given us enough time to brace ourselves for his death (sarcasm). Hassan felt his end was near – maybe he had seen the previews too? Jokes aside, maybe the heart attack has scared him but we see he is working himself into a frenzy and is adamant he must have his ‘affairs’ sorted as soon as possible – affairs that apparently only his trusted friend Junaid is privy to.

Mehru wakes the next morning to find Hassan has passed away in his sleep. Samina Peerzada is no doubt an amazing actress and her expressions from confusion to awareness that something is not quite right and then her distress made me all teary, especially when she lays her head on her dead husband’s chest at the end. However, the whole scene gave me goosebumps as well, not only because of Samina Peerzada’s powerful acting but because he is her husband in real life and for a while there I was not able to really distinguish between the characters they are playing from their actual relationship.

I felt sad for Mehru that the only women who seem to be around her are Alia’s mother and Saman (Minahil’s mother). What a sorry pair! Alia’s mothers comments made me cringe. At this point, I find Alia’s character a bit confusing. She is a little short with Mehru and self obsessed but maybe on her own she would not be so bad if she did not pay so much heed to her mother’s ‘priceless’ words of wisdom. She does however seem to love Haider and seemed to feel his grief when she talked to him after his father’s death. Not sure right now what and how important a role Alia plays in the whole picture.

Anyhow, Junaid stands at his dead friend’s grave talking about the ‘secret’ and not having enough ‘himmat’ to tell Mehru all. I really want to say aray bhayee, na Hassan ko himmat thee na Junaid ko, please mujhay bata do mujh mein himmat hai Mehru ko bataanay ki- bas ab bata do keh raaz kia hai?! When I was watching the episode I thought I would finally write in my review that the cat is out of the bag and in my mind I had an image of Saima Noor being the cat poking its head out of the bag! Ah, but Saima did not make an appearance in today’s episode. Maybe her temporary dementia has caught on and the director forgot about her. Oh well.

Hamza, in his grief reaches out to Zaina who ‘is there for him’. Two months lapse and apparently Junaid is still gathering himmat (sigh) to tell Mehru anything. I say that because Mehru is slowly recovering from the shock of her husband’s death and does not seem to be dealing with any dark secrets. Hamza goes back to university and we see he and Zaina have become close. Bhai (I should just refer to him as Imran Aslam until someone calls him by his name) spots Zaina in a car with Hamza and asks her about it. I liked how he did not yell at Zaina or threaten her etc but also made it clear that he does not approve.

Samina Peerzada’s acting was probably the best part of today’s episode. Everyone else is doing their bit but besides the annoying crickets sound that plays in Khalid Malik and Sana Askari’s scenes, nothing else about anyone’s acting stands out just yet. Affan Waheed is getting a bit too comfortable with the same old ultra sensitive, voice cracking with emotion roles and couple that with Neelum Munir’s deep voice makes you want to throw in a bit of Sanam Choudhary’s characteristic shrieks to pull up the pair’s vocal chords a bit and not put you to sleep!! I would like to have seen a bit more of Imran Aslam though. It is obvious that Hassan’s secret is linked to Saima’s family but I suppose there will be more of her and Imran Aslam later.

Overall, the episode was not bad. I am losing patience with the ‘secret’ being dragged out and would prefer Alia and her mother to be sidelined a bit and see more of Saima so the story can progress. At this point, there are so many conspiracy theories running through my head about how Saima is linked to Hassan that it is almost giving me a headache. I did not get to see the preview of next week’s episode as I watched this episode online and could not find the link. I would love to hear your thoughts on this episode!

Mana Ka Gharana – Episode 13!

Ohkay so, this episode was an absolute filler. I so wish that Mana Ka Gharana team learns from the team of Preet Na Kariyo Koi about how they can curb their greed of ratings & how they can end the drama before the elasticity of the chewing gum runs out. This episode literally gave us nothing to talk about. All the conversations & all the things that they showed have been seen before if not thousand, but a hundreds of times at least!!!

Saleha is stooping to new lows every single day. She didn’t allow Khizer to meet Ghaalib, obviously because she feared that Khizer might get her busted for being the one who forced him to demand the money. The way Saleha is pampering Gul Bahar & treating her like a Queen is no fun. I believe that may be because Saleha does her cooking preps in an open air, some venomous bug might’ve jumped into her food because the venom she has started to spew recently is getting out of control & there’s no other justification to the 180 degree flip she has made. She has become a chalti phirti nagin & I am actually afraid of her!

I think both Saleha & Ghaalib are such a couple who have perfect understanding of each other & that is why they both have comfortably switched their roles so that Mana doesn’t feel she that she is missing out on one of her parent. Saleha has become Mana’s father who is acting like a head of the family & taking the major decisions concerning everyone’s lives & Ghaalib has become Mana’s mother, who is doing all the crying that usually the women in our dramas do. I think apart from arranging a wheelchair for Ghaalib, the producers of Mana Ka Gharana must’ve invested a lot in the glycerin bottles required by him!

Honestly speaking, Laila kya kam thin jo unke Walid Sahab bhi Khizer ki khidmat ko hazir ho gaye? I really want to enjoy the entry of Laila in this drama but every time I remind myself that she is just a tourist, all the convincing goes down the drain because I can’t bring myself to understand why a tourist would spend her days & nights serving a localite & not exploring the town she’s visiting? I really think Murree is more than just the highways & curvy roads. They really could’ve shown some residential areas because they are always on a highway when all of them bump into each other. Mana was walking on a highway too when she saw Laila & Khizer & later Ghaalib & Maalik met Khizer at one of those canopies that have been installed for the tourists to take a pause during their journey, but having said that I must admit, I am amazed by their navigation skills & advanced technology of the GPS they use because no matter where someone is, everyone spots them just at the right place at a wrong time!!!

Mana’s character is getting cringe-worthy now. She obviously misses Khizer but doesn’t want to admit & I believe she should leave it at that because she is going to get married to her ill-mannered prince charming anyways so she should just let Khizer be. Yes, the writer is trying to tell that Mana is unable to move on because she has some sort of attachment to Khizer & if so, then her conversations should be a bit more elaborate & they should show more than Mana just being mad & angry at Khizer all the time.

I loved the conversation between Maalik & Zarri. He has clearly told her that he won’t let go of her to which Zarri didn’t respond obviously but I like how she stands up for herself in front of Gul Bahar. I really like how dignified Zarri is because all that she says to Gul Bahar is only based on what she thinks & feels & not because she knows that she has Maalik’s support. I like Zarri & Maalik’s characters a lot more than anyone else & look forward to their scenes the most too!

Finally, it was good to see that a house helper was making more sense than everybody else. She could see that everyone turned against Khizer ever since Shehryaar & Gul Bahar came into their lives. I hope that this does the trick & force Mana to do some thinking. I think it’s a high time that either one of them puts two & two together & figures out what actually Shehryaar & Gul Bahar did to their family.

Anyways, the episode was a filler & didn’t give us anything new. The preview unfortunately suggested that the next episode is going to be a filler too. They really need to move the story forward by showing that either Maalik, Zarri or Khizer tried to knock some sense into their family members about what Shehryaar’s true colors are because till that happens, the story is going to go around in circles & every episode will be like a filler! Please share your thoughts about this episode of Mana Ka Rondu Gharana!

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Fawad Khan Shows His Dance Moves In A New Song

0

Fawad Khan once said in an interview that he did not know how to dance and he never thought that he could learn to dance even if he tried. It looks like this talented actor is going to experience everything now which he thought he will never even try. Fawad Khan is showing his dance moves in the new song “Let’s Nacho” from the film “Kapoor And Sons”. Fawad Khan was very impressed with her co-star Alia Bhatt’s confidence on the very first day he met her. In a recent interview he said,

“When I saw her on the first day on the sets, she was so confident and spontaneous, which I was not expecting at all. She didn’t even rehearse.”

After watching this video you will realize that Fawad Khan has been doing some homework and he knows how to move and groove now. This is a party song, there is at least one such song in every Bollywood film. The critics are already praising Fawad Khan’s energy in the video. The song has been sung by Baadshah.

Beqasoor – Episode 18

All the tracks in the story have been stretched so much that at this point I am finding it really hard to feel anything for any of the characters. When the story goes around in circles for weeks and most of the episodes are filled with scenes which are usually pointless and are used only to kill time then it becomes impossible for the viewers to keep their interest intact in a drama. Beqasoor was never the kind of drama that keeps your interest alive but it has only gone downhill with every passing episode. There was a time when actors like Samina Peerzada and Sajjid Hassan were only seen in dramas which offered quality entertainment but now we see these actors, who deserve to be cherished, working in projects which do not even have a solid storyline. I will give the director due credit for covering all the tracks in every episode and not making certain characters disappear, something which we have seen happening in many of the hyped dramas recently. At the same time I would request ARY Digital to stop stretching dramas so much that viewers end up losing interest in them altogether.

Tonight’s episode had two important developments; Sehr’s pregnancy (which makes me wonder does Shehryar deserve another child?) and Shehryar’s nikaah with Nuzhat which was long overdue and was shown right at the end of the episode as a desperate measure to ensure that viewers who are watching the show have a reason to tune into it next week. I guess the writer is trying to show that Sehr is being punished for all her wrongdoings by going through exactly what Sadaf went through. Personally, I was more interested in watching Shehryar and Nuzhat get punished than Sehr. Although Sehr has been extremely selfish and careless but even then somehow I am willing to forgive her because she was young and did not know better. Shehryar and Nuzhat on the other hand have hurt many people knowing exactly what they were doing and they should be punished. The scenes between Sehr and Sunny made very little sense. Why was Sehr meeting this boy if she wanted to focus on her marriage? This episode was full of scenes like the one in which Waseem brought the cake and the conversation between Sehr and Nuzhat which were too long and mostly pointless.

This time Waseem has changed for real but he did not meet Babur in this episode. This is another track that is being stretched without a reason. I still fail to understand why Hira is supposed to be a ‘heera’! I can’t relate to these situations at all in which we see rich polished boys falling for seedhi sadhi girls who won’t even be able to socialize with the kind of people these boys meet on daily basis.

Overall, this was another disappointing episode of Beqasoor which makes you wish that the drama will end soon! The acting and production values of the drama are flawless but the story is all over the place. There have been times when it seemed like the story will be wrapped up but every time a new track or twist is introduced to stretch the story.

How many of you watched this latest episode of Beqasoor? Please share your thoughts about it.

Many Pakistani actors have recently started working in Bollywood films. Some of them have been a huge success while others did not succeed in making a place for themselves in Bollywood. The news is that Sajjal Ali is the next actress who has been approached by the producers in Bollywood.

The actress has not announced anything about the project yet but there are sources that reveal that Sajjal will be starting her Bollywood career with this film. The official announcement from the production house is expected some time soon. Sajjal Ali is currently busy shooting for her first Lollywood project “Zindagi Kitni Haseen Hai” in which Feroze Khan will play the lead with her.

Preet Na Kariyo Koi – The End!

Ohkay so, my favorite drama of the recent times came to an end tonight. I am so glad that without dragging things further & without wasting much time, they wrapped the drama nicely. I am glad to know that there are still such drama-makers who do not believe in stretching the drama to a point where they can attain the most profits through the ratings & do not care about the viewers losing interest in the drama. They showed us everything that we wanted to see & just when we felt that the story should reach its conclusion, it did & for that I thank the team of Preet Na Kariyo Koi with all my heart.

So, Noori decided to go ahead with what Roomi planned for her but little did she know that even if she hadn’t taken such extreme measures, everyone else would still be favoring her because they supported her. Noori was anxious because her mother didn’t give her a chance to share what she wanted to. I loved the scene between Shagufta & Noori where Shagufta deliberately walked out of the room because she felt weak & didn’t have any courage left to face Noori. I loved how at this stage, after so much of suffering they showed that Shagufta learnt her lesson & regretted loving Shams because she didn’t get anything in return. Like now when Shagufta complained, it seemed genuine & didn’t make her look like an ungrateful person because it took a lot for her to feel that way. Like I have said before, the concerns Shagufta had & the objection she raised against Roomi were understandable because she never got the life she imagined & she was forced to face the reality. Shagufta suffered a lot & that is why, she was pushed to a limit where she started looking like a cruel mother who didn’t believe in her daughter’s choices. It was only Shagufta’s inhibition that forced her to not see how suitable Roomi was for Noori. Shagufta was too afraid because of her own experiences that she didn’t even consider it a possibility that Roomi can be heaps better than Shams. I felt for Shagufta that being someone who lived for the sake of love, the idea of a love marriage became so daunting that it put a kibosh on her thinking capacity & made her do things she never would’ve done if she had gotten the love she herself dreamed of.

I really really liked how each & everyone gathered in order to help Noori. It was like they all could see the reality that Shagufta was skeptical & her bitter personal experience with Shams forced her to act irrationally. The way Zareena tried to help Noori was sweet too. It was good too see that at least Noori got someone whom she could confide in & Zareena ended up being that person who gave Noori the confidence that her decision was right & she made the right choice. I loved when Zareena told Noori that she should marry someone who loves her & not the one whom she loves. I so wish Shagufta could’ve seen that too but her fear & regret got the best of her.

Bhola’s twist was interesting but it could’ve stopped at a point where he wanted to help Roomi & Noori because he wanted to get a revenge for his father’s death from his sister. In one way Bhola tried to get back at Shagufta & teach her a lesson but on the other he ended up helping her indirectly by making Noori feel guilty about her decision. I felt that Bhola will get his closure after helping Roomi & Noori but his half-way-there approach seemed unconvincing. Yes, I am glad that Roomi & Noori didn’t get nikkaofied at that point because that way the last scene wouldn’t have been this perfect but I feel he didn’t get his closure. Also, I think they should’ve shown a scene or two between Shagufta & Bhola where Bhola gave Shagufta a chance to say what she feels or even apologize & Shagufta should’ve found out how her younger brother stopped her daughter from hurting her. Bhola wasn’t filled with so much fury after all, which was just alright because throughout the drama we got an impression that he hated his sister but looks like he came to terms with it or learned it the hard way but I would’ve been happy if they had shown a few scenes of Bhola convincing himself in the previous episodes.

Finally, Shagufta got to meet her Chachi & the rest of her family after such a long time but then there wasn’t anything more to it. No conversation nothing at all. When I saw the preview I was actually looking forward to Shagufta’s meeting with her Chachi & Chachi’s mention of Roomi’s rishta for Noori the most but there was no conversation at all. It is like Shagufta never learned the truth about Roomi being Ilyas’s relative. Also, the episode ended & Shams was nowhere to be seen. He ended up looking like a paid audience in the background. I think he needed a scene as well where they had shown him regretting the fact that he put Shagufta through so much & acknowledging the fact that she did a lot all her life for their family because in the end when he held Shagufta’s hand, it didn’t seem complete & convincing. I think a lot of the scenes like the flashback of Ilyas in the initial part of the episode, then the maid & Zareena’s unnecessarily long conversation, also Zareena & Suleri’s meeting should’ve been cut down in order to give the coverage to the things that were actually important like Bhola & Shams’s thoughts & Chachi & Shagufta’s detailed conversation. Those scenes didn’t really seem important because they didn’t really fit in & if they had replaced it with the situations that actually needed attention, then this entire episode would’ve been perfect. My only complain is with this episode & these few scenes because considering the fact that it was the last episode, I wanted a perfect perfect perfect ending, but having said that, if I look back at the entire journey, it is beyond perfect. :)

Collage 02

I loved the things Suleri said to Shagufta in the end because I wanted someone to tell the exact same thing to her that she had an obedient daughter & she should’ve at least given consideration to Roomi’s proposal for the fact that he longed for her too, which Shams never really did. Shagufta got a bit too tangled in the thoughts of comparing Roomi & Noori’s scenario with the state of her relation that it hindered her from thinking things through. Shagufta did a lot to attain her love that too for the wrong guy but Roomi loved Noori as much as she loved him, which changes the state of their love completely & differentiates Roomi from Shams. It was good to see that Suleri intervened & took the right decision for this family.

Overall, this episode was good but it could’ve been way better but but but, the whole journey of Preet Na Kariyo Koi was like a roller-coaster ride of emotions. I loveddd the way the writer Amna Mufti wrote Shagufta’s character which had so much depth & detail. In fact, all the characters were brilliant but Shagufta Shehzadi takes the crown for being unique & different. Shagufta was the one whom you could detest & feel for at the same time & I really am glad that the writer made her problems very understandable & relate-able. She was forced to do things she would’ve never thought of doing but she never gave up no matter how tough the circumstances got & honestly speaking, in the market where all the shops sell roti dhoti dukhyaris these days, Shagufta Shehzadi came as a breath of fresh air. I thank the director Ehtashamuddin for directing this play to perfection & for making it a visual treat. The way he brought the essence of Lahore to life in this drama was amazing & also, the way he extracted the best acting out of all these actors was brilliant too. I am definitely signing a petition of Amna Mufti & Ehtashaamuddin’s collaboration once again because they gave us something absolutely brilliant & memorable.

Speaking about the actors who made Preet Na Kariyo Koi a treat with their perfect performances I will thank Hira Salman for doing justice to Shagufta Shehzadi’s character which I am sure no one else could’ve done. She was outstanding as Shagufta & I believe it was only because of her powerful acting & minute expressions that we all could understand Shagufta’s journey. It was good to see Ahsan Khan in a role other than a naqaam ashiq & he did a great job too. Rehan Sheikh was convincing as Suleri, it is like a done deal that no matter what character it must be, if Rehan Sheikh will embrace it, he will add life into it, we have seen it before & I am glad he gave it all to Suleri’s character this time around as well. All the supporting characters were written with a lot of detail & the actors did a beautiful job at bringing those characters to life too. Irfan Khoosat, Naghma Begum, Hassan Noman, Adnan Shah Tipu, Saman Ansari, Farhana Maqsood, Noor Khan & the actor playing the character of Roomi, all of them made this drama complete with their presence & yes, last but not the least, I will thank the writer for writing such meaningful dialogues & with such a beautiful usage of Urdu, all this while I loved listening to the conversation in Preet Na Kariyo Koi & was reminded time & again about what was missing from the rest of our dramas. I am so glad I gave Preet Na Kariyo Koi a chance & thoroughly enjoyed it, so thank you team of Preet Na Kariyo Koi once again. Please share your thoughts about this episode & the entire drama too guys & thank you for keeping the discussions alive. :)

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.
