Shart – Episode 03!

I mean like seriously!?!?! This drama is basically promoting home-wreckage as something adventurous that two friends have planned because firstly, they have nothing better to do in their lives, secondly, they are out to prove something to one another & thirdly, because the writer was so bored that he decided to give a new meaning to the whole home wrecking routine that people have never seen before.

Afroz actually wants to restore Moomal’s faith in men-kind & also she wants to prove her notion wrong because according to her, her husband is ‘different’ that is why Afroz has agreed to the most stupid bet of all times that her ‘best friend’ Moomal has proposed. Moomal actually wants to teach Afroz that all men are the same just because she got an unfaithful husband or rather someone who didn’t actually love her, so she finds every single man exactly like Sameer, her husband. What nauseated me was, wasn’t the idea of the bet but the way Moomal was shown setting a trap for Emaad & seeing Afroz helping her friend just because she believes that by the end of the 1 month betting time, she will win & defeat Moomal.

I mean, I am sorry to say but Ayesha Khan looked mentally challenged when she was trying to act all cute just because every single time the arrow she threw hit a bullseye. I don’t understand one thing, all these girls & guys were shown as best of friends so how come they all ended up marrying those who didn’t love each other? Sameer didn’t love Moomal & Emaad was clearly in love with Moomal & not Afroz, so why did they all choose to pair up with those they didn’t love in the first place & by the way, what sort of friendship was this that these people couldn’t read each other’s minds & ended up marrying wrong people oh sorry, wrong ‘friends’!?!?!?!?! It just doesn’t make sense at all.

I really don’t know who is more stupid; Moomal or Afroz because the way Afroz seemed comfortable was actually quite shocking. She believes in her husband more than she believes in herself, which is good but then that makes her look dumb because she has challenged Moomal that she is going to win but then how will she, when she will play along with Moomal & push her husband away from her? The whole idea of discussing this episode seems so downright ridiculous to me right now, lol! It was actually very absurd of her to allow all this to happen right under her nose & she didn’t even get affected by it at all, in fact she looked pretty happy that her husband was falling prey to her best friend’s tactics!?! I mean, is she mentally sane or has she lost her sanity?

Oh & there comes Emaad, flaunting his crystal clear skin but not so clean & clear intentions where he appoints Moomal as a ‘marketing director’ of his firm despite knowing that she was a nagging housewife before & has no experience whatsoever. I understand that Emaad is trying to help her snap out of her depression bout & currently he doesn’t know he is being used as a puppet by the two lady loves of his life but then looks like only on day 1 of the whole bet thingy, he gave in pretty easily & the feelings he had for Moomal were rekindled & he uttered a confession to himself where he regrets not confessing his love to Moomal when he had a chance. I am sure it wouldn’t take much longer for those words to come out of his actual mouth that too in front of Moomal because he has not only started to lie to Afroz because of her, but he is not being honest with his wife as well about how their best friend is hitting on him.

I think the best & the blessed guy in this drama is Sameer because for a change it was good to see him not being a part of this filth that Moomal, Afroz & Emaad have drowned into. Sameer is focusing on his career & he has gotten a perfect partner who will help him advance in his professional life. I must say I last saw Nadia Hussain in Sitamgar & she went expressionless due to heavy dosage of Botox but in this drama, she looks really classy & is acting comfortably as well. So, this is how hideous this drama for now is & I am not sure if it’s going to improve or what but I really am shocked as to how casually the writer has made a joke out of such a serious situation. People have their lives ruined because of such incidents & here is this drama-making team; glamorizing & promoting it to be something that should be taken as lightly as possible? I really hope that the writer has some message by the end by showing that friends shouldn’t be trusted so much or something on those lines because for now, nothing of that sort seems to be happening. Why So Bold!?!?!

I will start this article by excusing beforehand for saying things that might sound or come across as bold because this is something which I feel needs to be addressed & I will definitely try to maintain the decency but I know I will have a hard time in selecting my words because the things that are being shown in our dramas recently are anything but decent.

It’s a known fact that Pakistani dramas fall into the category of family dramas because this is exactly how our dramas got a higher success rate, as people could relate to the stories based on realities of life & more than that I believe the best thing that distinguished our dramas from the foreign content was the quotient of decency that always ‘used to’ be a part of our dramas but recently, the criteria has changed & so has the approach towards the story telling. I believe an alarming trend has overruled all the previous parameters that were always considered while making a drama. The cringe-worthy & puke-worthy thing that I see in our dramas these days is the dependency on indecency between the characters. I have been observing this shift from quite some while now but a few dramas have actually compelled me to voice my thoughts & I believe, in fact I know that there are so many people out there who feel exactly like I do when it comes to this unnecessary boldness that is being shown in our dramas these days.

I believe a lot of people will agree that our dramas have lately started showcasing such things which no one wants to see where there is a lot more focus on the skinship & there is a lot more intimacy between the characters, no matter what roles they are playing. Be it a relationship of a husband & wife or friends or colleagues, I have seen that the unnecessary coziness is always made a part of each & every episode in most of the dramas that have gone on-air recently or are running currently. Whenever I see any such scenario I always wonder if this was actually really necessary or did such a scene take the story forward in any way & the answer that resonates in my mind is always in negation because let’s be honest, we all are well aware of all the aspects of life so no one actually feels the need to see certain things being narrated or elaborated as if they are teaching us something really important & without their help we can’t figure things out on our own.

Coll 1

There are so many dramas that have solely depended on the forced skinship to earn the ratings, best example would be Chup Raho because sorry to say the way Sajjal Ali was manhandled in this drama was actually quite disturbing & what disturbed me the most was the way she allowed that to happen to her. Yes, it was the demand of the script but I believe what happened to her character was enough for people to pay heed to what she has gone through but the way she was objectified time & again was actually quite disgusting. Last night I saw an episode of Khuda Dekh Raha Hai & there was a scene where Imran Aslam picks up Sajjal Ali; his bride in his arms & tells her that your place is not on the settee but somewhere else. The recently started drama Shart also showcases a friendship of another level where a husband Danish Taimoor is comfortably embracing his ‘friend’ Ayesha Khan & in some cases pecks on her forehead right in front of his wife Nida Khan & she seems pretty comfortable with the coziness between her friend & her husband!?!?! I am sure everyone remembers Aahista Aahista; super-duper, megahit drama of 2014, the way they insinuated indecent thoughts of Adnan Siddique whenever he looked at his young wife Mawra Hocane especially whenever she used to towel-dry her hair was quite bizarre too. Similarly, even though I loved Aunn Zara, there was also a scene in that drama which involved Maya Ali’s foot & OKB’s face & that actually made no sense because it seemed completely out of the line & unnecessary. I watched a few episodes of Mere Khuda as well & yes, my thoughts were just exactly similar to the name of drama because all I could say was Mere Khuda after watching them taking boldness rather hideousness & indecency to another level.

Coll 2

Those who have followed me or my comments know that I am not a huge fan of Humsafar but I have always praised that drama for the fact that there was nothing of such sort shown in it. They showcased romance & a growth of love & bonding between a husband & wife quite aptly where their chemistry spoke volumes without them having to come in contact with each other. Similarly, Shanakht was also one such drama where the pairing of Fahad Mirza & Maya Ali was done beautifully & their relationship & chemistry was evident without any forced chumminess between the two. Sanam Jung & Imran Abbas’s chemistry in Dil-e-Muztar was also very unique & special & I don’t remember any questionable scenes between the two of them. I remember Sarwat Gillani & Adeel Hussain in Mata-e-Jaan & their relationship & bonding was actually nicely depicted & the chemistry they both shared was amazing too but I never saw anything of such sort in that drama either. Sanam Saeed & Fawad Khan made a good pair in Zindagi Gulzar Hai & no matter what; the director never relied on showing the strength of their bond through these means. Imran Abbas’s pairing with Naveen Ali in Alivda was good & they looked amazing as a couple; they had a good relationship which was depicted without any contact between them either & the latest & our favorite; Sadqay Tumhare, where there was a lot of emphasis made on how much Khalil (Adnan Malik) respected Shano (Mahira Khan) which is why all their scenes together screamed chemistry but not even a single scene was added to portray how much they loved each other by relying on some contact between them. The point is, drama makers have given us beautiful romantic dramas & love stories now & before, but they have also set the precedent high by letting us know that the physical contact is never the criteria to showcase how special the bonding between a couple is & that has been the beauty of these dramas which struck a chord with so many people out there.

I actually hate seeing how easily the drama-maker these days picture such questionable scenes that are quite suggestive & in simple words bold & disgusting & it also makes me wonder what sort of briefing & in what terminologies the actors must be getting before they are being told about the scene that they are about to shoot. We don’t need to see what transpires between two characters if unfortunately they become a husband & wife on screen, we don’t need to see the wet locks of actresses to understand their situation, we don’t need to see a guy grabbing a face of a girl as if he is holding a packet of crisps. We don’t want to see any of that because we are immune to watching simple, decent & most importantly clean dramas that are free of any such questionable antics. Our drama makers need to understand that they need to up their intelligence & drama-telling techniques & when they’ll do that, they wouldn’t need these cheap tactics to sell their dramas. Share your thoughts rather vent out your anger at an alarming latest trend of boldness that is prevailing in our dramas these days.

Mera Naam Yousuf Hai – Episode 7

The story is moving forward smoothly and the genuine characters in the play remain the highlight of the drama. Yes! Yousuf’s love for Zulekha cannot be explained in a logical way but I have absolutely no trouble relating to how Yousuf feels for Zulekha. Imran Abbas has played his role really well, I felt for Yousuf every step of the way today. Madiha’s character is one of a kind since if this was any other play Madiha would have been utilizing all her energies into creating some kind of a misunderstanding between Yousuf and Zulekha that would completely destroy any possibility of them getting together at some point. Madiha on the other hand stays very neutral when it comes to Yousuf’s love for Zulekha. When Zulekha called her today I was expecting her to say something that would end this chapter forever but quite contrary to my expectations Madiha’s love for Yousuf is completely selfless. She has been yearning for Yousuf’s love and attention since her school days but she is not going to use any kind of unfair tactics to win that love. It is refreshing to see all these sensible girls on screen who are anything but desperate. Mansha Pasha has brought out the best in her character by not making Madiha look like as big a victim as we were afraid she might turn out to be the ultimate bechari. The character has been written in a very balanced way as well. Madiha is a brave girl who knows how to handle her feelings but you do feel for her.

Zulekha’s conversation with Madiha clearly showed that she only felt sorry for Yousuf because whatever happened to him was very cruel and unfair. She feels absolutely nothing for Yousuf and she most certainly does not want to lead him on. Zulekha’s father’s insecurities and his selfishness are getting frightening with every passing episode. Noor Mohammad intends to go ahead with his wedding and also that of Zulekha at all costs. This arrangement probably suits him more now that he has his mind made up that he will get married to Lubna. He cannot think of a better way to punish Afia Begum and fix his bruised ego. Noor Mohammad fails to see his daughter as an individual, that is the reason why even after Zulekha openly shared her thoughts about her future her father did not even give it a second thought. Like a dictator he felt insecure but he did not feel the need to pay heed to what Zulekha had to say. Zulekha’s sermon about democracy fell on deaf ears because people like her father and brother do not believe in democracy but they believe in dominating and dictating. The only reason Zulekha and her sister haven’t grown up to be docile girls without any opinion is because of Afia Begum’s larger than life personality who has managed to be vocal and confident even after being married to someone like Noor Mohammad for all these years.

The way the policeman who was incharge of making sure that Yousuf gets punished was convinced of his innocence reminded me of how Khalil always managed to win everyone over because of his genuine feelings for Shano. This love story however is very different from that of Khalil and Shano’s love story because for now it is only one-sided. There wasn’t much of Afia Begum in tonight’s episode and I definitely missed her witty dialogues in tonight’s episode.

The word yakhni was overused in tonight’s episode and the yakhni played an important role in making Yousuf’s step-mother figure out what was going on. We also got to see a nice close-up of the yakhni which was quite convincing;) Yousuf’s step-mother’s role is another character which breaks away from all the clichés that have ever exited about step mothers! It seems like Yousuf’s father got married only recently therefore Yousuf still is finding it hard to accept his father’s new wife.

Overall, this episode was not very happening but it was pretty decent. The story is moving forward gradually and at the moment it looks like nothing can keep Noor Mohammad from getting his daughter married. All the actors are doing complete justice to their characters but Imran Abbas and Mansha Pasha’s performances stood out in tonight’s episode more than any other. All the scenes were short, to the point and shot beautifully. This episode of MNYH didn’t have the dhuwandaar dialogues like the ones in the previous few episode so I definitely missed those but I am definitely looking forward to the next episode because I can’t wait to find out how this love story unfolds.

Do share your thoughts about tonight’s episode.

Ishq Parast- Episode 9

Wow, another week and another interesting episode. Since there’s a dearth of plays that make sense to the viewers, it’s an absolute joy watching & reviewing Ishq Parast.

Well, Zohaib refuses to sign the khulla papers and decides to take it upon himself to free Dua of this relationship because that’s how Zohaib is- he loves Dua and genuinely cares for her and therefore, he doesn’t want any of his actions to affect Dua’s honour and reputation. However, I think many of us were not expecting Zohaib to take this decision just like that because considering how mature & levelheaded he is, he should’ve viewed the situation more practically. I think it would have been a little more realistic if he’d asked for some time to ponder over the whole situation or perhaps he could have asked Dua to give this marriage a chance because wasn’t Zohaib the one who had pointed out that Dua looked reluctant while handing over those khulla papers so where did the glimmer of hope disappear all of a sudden? I hope it’s not Muhabbat Khan’s words of wisdom that compelled Zohaib to let Dua go because no one trusts a random driver to this level LOL :p.

Its funny how Hamza keeps tabs on Dua 24/7 but he was totally oblivious of the fact that Zohaib and Dua have left for Karachi! Needless to say, Hamza feels cheated and he simply doesn’t believe in ‘moving on’. He needs some serious counseling and trust me, I don’t say that on a humorous note- I really do think that angry young men should consult good counselors so that they get an idea how to pour out their frustrations in a less destructive way.

11149456_812101188838855_3409076036855070901_n

The shopping mall scene went to show the stark contrast between Hamza and Zohaib. Unlike Zohaib, Hamza’s love for Dua is extremely selfish. He is a controlling and fervent lover who doesn’t care about Dua’s honour but Zohaib, on the other hand, won’t think of doing anything that poses threat to Dua’s reputation. Hamza’s love or ishq has different shades while Zohaib’s ishq has some entirely different shades to it and this is more of a proof that for a lifelong commitment like marriage, Hamza was never really a good choice. Dua’s flashbacks hinted that she too realizes who’s better for her and that scene was nicely done.

A different side of Arsala’s character was explored today. Behind the bubbly & carefree facade, there lurks a sensitive & caring sister who genuinely wants her brother to lead a happy & successful life with his wife. Right when I thought she’s about to throw a tantrum, I found her being considerate & thoughtful enough to sense that her brother’s upset about something and I found it so cute the way she forgot all about her narazgi and was more concerned about making things work between her bhai & bhabi. Zohaib is the only person she’s got and she is possessive of him too but isn’t it refreshing that Arsala’s character is a far cry from the usual overbearing nunds of our drama serials? I loved the way Arsala advised her bhai to spend more time with bhabi- I mean, all this time we have been watching plays that show conniving & scheming sisters in law. With a dream husband, sweet khala-saas and darling nund, Dua couldn’t have asked for a better family!

11150190_812096365506004_5709283512146264133_n

The confrontational scene between Dua and her father was spot on and I think for the first time in his life, Pasha Sahab had absolutely nothing to say. The decision Dua’s parents took for her may be for her own good but then again, the way this marriage took place has only spoiled the bond Dua once shared with her parents.

As usual, the performances were commendable. Jibran, Ahmed Ali and Arij Fatyma have been phenomenal since the beginning. I have a lot of questions in my mind as to what will be the next step of Dua, Hamza and Zohaib. What are your thoughts on the latest episode of Ishq Parast? Share your thoughts with us :D.

Khuda Dekh Raha Hai – Episode 08 & 09!

The thing I like the most about this play is the perfect pace it has offered till date. I really like the way the story is being told & is progressing but I really hope they don’t invest a lot of time in showing Zoya’s ordeals & they keep on changing the tracks & the stories related to it. I think now when Zoya has gotten married, we all know she will have a tough time with Adnan being by her side but I really am not looking forward to the never-ending depression bouts of Zoya.

I really can’t understand why Khalida did this to her own daughter. Clearly both Akhtar & Khalida were sceptical when it came to this proposal but I so wish Akhtar had intervened. He has always stood up for his daughter but then I think the way Zoya showed submissiveness to Khalida’s decision, that took away the option Akhtar might’ve gotten & then he couldn’t do anything to save the day but still being a father he had every right to support his daughter & talk her out of making such a huge mistake of her life. Akhtar could see that Zoya wasn’t happy but the way he allowed her to go ahead with this marriage makes him look weak. Khalida thinks leaving what she does after how she has lied to Zoya is a compensation enough but that is definitely not the case. Khalida is living in a fool’s paradise to think that her decision won’t harm & haunt her for the rest of life especially after she will see Zoya suffering. I can see the curse of that heartbroken girl being materialized pretty soon because Khalida herself chose that path for her daughter.

I liked that Zoya gave a piece of her mind to Moeez. I definitely hate Moeez’s character & his nature especially because of the way he treats & uses Zoya as a puppet to make Sanam happy. He wasn’t bothered about what Zoya was going through but he was more worried about how Sanam would feel if Zoya didn’t show up. I so wish Zoya was as thick-skinned as him & as selfish as his brother because that way she could’ve saved herself from the hell she has gotten into. She actually proved that her family & especially her mother mattered to her the most which is why just so effortlessly she backed out of all the promises she had ever made to Junaid. I like Junaid for the fact that he wanted to try till the end. He didn’t give up because he actually loved her a lot but sadly, the luck wasn’t on his side.

Adnan is definitely the sort of a guy any parents wouldn’t want their daughter to get married to because he falls short on all accounts of decency. I really don’t understand when he wasn’t ready to change his lifestyle & he wasn’t ready to leave what he does, why he agreed on getting married? Going by what we know about him, Adnan is such a person who can never be pushed into doing something that he doesn’t like & clearly, the way he is pretty comfortable in his life shows that he wasn’t interested in getting committed so it seems out of the line of his character that he agreed to this marriage. I felt for Zoya a lot after how she attended Adnan when he showed up after they got married. Even though I was angry at what she did to herself, I felt for her as well because she was trying really hard to accept this marriage & Adnan wholeheartedly. I must say the subsequent scenes of the duo together were quite suggestive & they could’ve been skipped, in fact they should have been skipped because there was no point of elaborating all that. I must say the ease with which such scenes are shot & are made part of our dramas these days is actually quite shocking & alarming because no one wants to see such things & these scenes don’t take the story forward in any way.

Finally, Zoya has started to understand that Adnan is definitely not the husband she dreamed of because he is quite different to what she had imagined. I felt that the scene where Adnan speaks to his girlfriend right in front of Zoya was quite forced & unrealistic because no matter how cool he must be with whom he is, he wouldn’t want to shock his bride just like that. Sanam’s parents are equally bad too & no wonder why Adnan & Sanam turned out this way because they didn’t have perfect role models of parents to follow & look up to. Sanam’s father is a very practical man who only puts monetary benefits ahead of everything else & his wife doesn’t seem to mind it at all.

I so want to see Khalida & Moeez suffering because of Sanam but I so don’t want to see Zoya suffering which is unavoidable as Adnan is going to test her patience a lot. The drama has become interesting but I so wish the pace stays the same & things keep on rolling. Share your thoughts about this & the previous episode of Khuda Dekh Raha Hai please. :)

5 Worst Dressed Celebrities At HUM Awards

0

Award Shows are a time when all the celebrities know that all eyes are on them therefore they try their best to wear something that is sure to make them stand out in the crowd. It is unfortunate when these celebrities fail to choose the perfect outfit for themselves or even if they do choose something good their designers mess up things by not stitching the clothes in a manner that compliments their bodies.

Here is a list of five celebrities who failed to impress in the HUM Award function because of various reasons mentioned with their names:

5. Sajjal Ali

Sajjal Ali should be able to carry any look with ease because she is petite but somehow this look doesn’t work as well for Sajjal as it did for Urwa and Mawra. There were too many such dresses in the award show and this one was the worst.

5

4. Sanam Jung

The dress is beautiful but it does not compliment Sanam Jung in any way, It is too heavy for her.

4

3. Angeline Malik

Black and yellow? The combination does not look good and the dress is too simple for an award show. The styling also does not compliment the entire look.

2

2. Cybil Chaudhry:

Was Cybil Chaudhry dressed up as fashion police? She was a walking fashion disaster with those sunglasses and a very casual look.

3

1. Hamza Ali Abbasi:

Someone forgot to tell Hamza Ali Abbasi that this was not a costume party! According to him he was dress up as Jesus. When asked who he was wearing at the red carpet Hamza said, “It is not who I am wearing, but who I am tonight. I even watched  “Passion of the Christ” before coming here tonight. Haysus.”

Who do you think was the worst dressed celebrity at HUM awards?

Alvida – Episode 10

This episode was definitely much better than the last one. It was good to see Haadi’s mother realizing that she did not make such a wise decision after all! Farisa did not take very long to cash in on the wedding. Even a soft spoken and docile person like her Mami was forced to do something about the situation. Farisa might have successfully “stolen” Haya’s life just the way she always wished she could but she is learning slowly that some things cannot be “stolen”! She somehow managed to talk her Mami into making this marriage happen but did she even stop for a second to think if she knew a trick or two to make her “husband” fall in love with her too? Farisa planned everything really well, she even made sure that Haya never gets in touch with anyone in the house and now that everything is not going according to her plans she feels frustrated and angry. Farisa’s conversation with her mother showed that she cared about nothing else except the money, the only reason she even wants Haadi around is so that he cannot be with Haya otherwise it is quite obvious that she has no feelings for Haadi. I must say that Sara Khan has been totally flawless as Farisa. You can’t help but hate Farisa for getting away with everything but at the same time you feel for her too. She was naive enough to think that this marriage would ensure a happy ending but this actually is the start of a very trying period for her too. Even though Farisa is Haadi’s wife but she can never have the kind of connection with him which Haya has.

For the first time I don’t see myself feeling sorry for the wife while the husband does everything in his power to annoy her! Yes, Haadi should have been man enough to put his foot down when his parents asked him to marry Farisa but even if he didn’t do that, this marriage was definitely Farisa’s brain child more than anyone else’s. Farisa wanted the money and she got it! I could totally relate to Haadi’s desire to spend time with Haya but at the same time I thought that he was being very selfish because he has been ignoring Haya’s feelings for him on purpose. If he accepts the fact that what Haya feels for him is real then they cannot be friends any more and he just does not want that. It looked like Haadi had moved on but the scene in which he could not even carry the baby to comfort him when he was crying went to show that he had not moved on at all. Haadi still blamed himself for Aroosa’s death and he still thought that Aroosa would still be with him if this baby was not in the picture or perhaps the baby is like a cruel reminder of how his wife died. I would have liked to see a flashback or two in which Haadi remembered Aroosa in some way but even without the flashbacks such subtle hints were evidence enough that Haadi was still trying to move on.

alvida

Haya had the opportunity to tell Haadi that Farisa had her contact number all along and that she kept them separate on purpose but she did not do that which is something that was completely in line with her character. Telling Haadi anything like that could have meant an end to their marriage and Haya would never want that. Farisa thinks that Haya wants to marry Haadi because she is the sort of person who would wreck someone’s house for her own happiness but Haya finds it impossible to come into terms with Farisa’s negativity because she is not that kind of a person. It would’ve been nice to see Haya threatening Farisa too when she threatened her because the things Haya has said to Farisa are nothing compared to what Farisa has done to Haadi.

Ramiz has moved to Karachi and Haya is definitely getting closer to him although she thinks of him as nothing more than a friend. Haya also feels that Haadi is cheating on Aroosa by not giving his son the love he deserves and by moving on so easily which might be the reason why Haya might decide to get away from Haadi too in the future. Haya keeps on bringing Aroosa in the conversations with Haadi perhaps because she does not want to forget that Haadi was madly in love with and married to her sister. I must say that I could see the Haya I really liked in the first few episodes in this episode. Farisa might not be the least bit likeable but she is keeping things interesting for now. Next episode’s preview shows that Farisa will be looking for Haadi’s affection, asking him to talk to her most probably because he loves talking to Haya!

This latest installment definitely gave me something to look forward to and although like many other people out there I don’t enjoy watching two girls fight over a man either but tonight wasn’t really like that at all. Haya is not the kind of girl who will go after someone’s husband which means that she will move on and out of Haadi’s life at some point. I like the way Haya’s character is developing and Sanam Jung was absolutely brilliant throughout this episode.

Do share your thoughts about this episode of Alvida.

Sadia Khan’s Bollywood Debut Is A Bold Gay Love Story

The News of Sadia Khan thinking about working in India has been circulating the media since 2013. According to an Indian newspaper “In the past, Sadia Khan had been offered films and TV soaps from India but she was waiting for the right role to debut in Bollywood”. It looks like Sadia Khan has found the right project which she had been looking for. Sadia Khan will be starting her Bollywood career with the film “Dunno Y 2…Life Is A Moment”. This film is the first film made in India with the assistance of Norway.

Sadia Khan plays the role of a a Norwegian Pakistani in this film. She was selected after country wide talent hunt in India, Pakistan and Middle East. More than 800 girls screen tested for this role. Sadia Khan’s character in the film falls in love with a man who is gay. The girl has no idea that her love interest is not straight. Sadia Khan said in an interview, “I have represented my country well. I believe that love cannot be restricted and can happen anywhere at any time with anyone.”

Untitled

It is a musical romantic comedy made in Hindi, English and Norwegian. Recently it was premiered at world’s one of the most prestigious Opera House of Oslo. It received a warm reception from the audience and positive reviews from critics.

According to Indiaglitz, “The film is the first commercial mainstream Gay love story between an Indian and homosexuals who meet in a foreign land (breathtaking locales of Norway), reminiscent of K-jo films. The trailer is also reminiscent of interesting and ‘dhamaal’ dialogues like Dirty Picture. Some interesting dialogues that will seem to be controversial on either side of the border “Koi Pakistani homosexual nahi hai” or another classic like “”Hum saale Hindustani Pakistani double standard *##di-khaane mein jayege aur wahi bhi Sati Savitri doondhege”.

Sadia Khan is very happy with her debut film, she said, “It’s a beautiful role and an international film and legends like Lata Mangeshkar, Zeenat Aman and Salma Agha are associated with the project. I couldn’t ask for a better debut!”

Meera is also seen playing a role in the film which looks very bold. Sadia Khan does not think that there is anything wrong with starting her career from such a film.

Diyar-e-Dil – Episode 05!

I am loving this drama so far because of the realistic portrayal of all the ups & downs people go through in their lives. This is something I feel makes this drama unique in its own way because all the tracks & characters are offering us things which we all can understand & relate to in a certain yet different way. I enjoy watching Diyar-e-Dil for the fact that all the episodes have had a perfect pace & the story is moving forward swiftly & not to forget, the amazing performances are nothing short of a bonus.

I found it uber sweet of Bedaar Khan to set his elder brother Bakhtiyaar free of any guilt he thought he might be feeling because of what his son did. I actually thought Bedaar Khan mustn’t have forgiven Behroz for how he left Arjumand in the lurch & ran away but the way he assured Bakhtiyaar actually showed that he was pretty satisfied with Arjumand & Suhaib’s marriage. Being a father, all Bedaar Khan wanted was to see his daughter settled & when that happened, he had no reasons to hold a grudge of any sort against Behroz, which is why he tried to make Bakhtiyaar understand that he should let go of his anger by forgiving Behroz & accepting him wholeheartedly but what Bakhtiyaar said was enough to understand that talking him out of his firm decision was out of question as he had pretty much made up his mind & had decided that he was estranging Behroz for good & that wasn’t due to what he did with Bedaar & Arjumand but because of how he let his father down.

Coll 01

The way Behroz & Ruhina’s return was shown was another highlight of the episode for me where they both tried to walk past what they had just experienced & tried to show each other that everything was normal which was totally opposite to what they both were feeling. Later what Ruhina said about Agha Jaan & Suhaib was completely out of the line because she couldn’t see that no matter what Agha Jaan said, Behroz didn’t complain & didn’t discuss anything with her. Ruhina couldn’t see that Behroz holds himself guilty & for all the right reasons because he betrayed Agha Jaan’s trust so he was in no position to negate whatever Agha Jaan said. I liked the fact that Behroz drew the line straight away & set the limits for Ruhina. I think it was wise of Behroz to let his wife know that no matter what she means to him he will never give her an edge to say whatever she feels like about his father & brother because he still loves & respects them. Behroz has taken a stand for her but that doesn’t mean he has forgotten his family; his father Agha Jaan & his brother Suhaib.

Even though I feel for both Arjumand & Suhaib, I think Suhaib is being unfair to his wife. Yes, he still hasn’t accepted this marriage & Arjumand as his wife; I believe he is letting his submissiveness take a toll on this relation. Just because Suhaib didn’t have a nerve to take a stand at the right time, he thinks avoiding & running away from his responsibilities & to be more precise; his wife is the only best solution to his problems. It is pretty obvious that even though Arjumand may now detest Behroz for his disloyalty, his presence still affects her. She still hasn’t been able to convince herself that Behroz never loved her which is why just like a teenager she tried to comfort herself by comparing herself to Behroz’s wife & his love Ruhina. Both Arjumand & Suhaib are tied in such a strange situation where nothing seems right for them. Just when I feel that Arjumand is trying to break the ice, just so that at least she can be in a comfortable zone around Suhaib, she taunts him giving away an impression that she likes to punish him for getting married to her. Agha Jaan’s visit was something that they both weren’t looking forward to because right now, they both haven’t been able to convince themselves & each other that they should give this marriage a go. Suhaib only spent some time with Arjumand just because he took another one of those orders from Agha Jaan which he couldn’t refuse obliging to & that makes him look like a very weak person, who only does what Agha Jaan orders him to do.

Coll 02

As much as I like seeing Behroz & Ruhina together, I also like the kind of beginning they both have had which is full of highs & lows because it depicts how real life is & how every couple starts from the scratch. To people, it may seem that they both are living a picture perfect life but if they take a closer look they will see that the only perfection they have is the love they both share because other than that, the circumstances & the situations they both have been through are far from being perfect. It was sad seeing their little happiness being short-lived where Ruhina ended up blaming herself & Behroz for hurting the people that meant the most to them both. Even though Behroz tried to calm her down, the following scene showed that what Ruhina said hit him as a reality check too because of which deep down he also ended up thinking that he lost his baby because he let his father down the most & he hurt him for which he now was regretful.

So, this was it from tonight’s episode. I thoroughly enjoyed watching it & I feel gradually they have increased the intensity & intricacy of each & every situation with each passing episode. Both the couples are going through a tough time but as far as Ruhina & Behroz are concerned, it is too obvious that good times will roll in for them soon as they both have decided to stand by each other through thick & thin but when it comes to Suhaib & Arjumand, I am kind of more eager to know if they both will ever have a normal & healthy relation because the preview suggested something entirely different. I feel all the actors did an amazing job in this episode as well & everyone got a fair share to shine but in this episode Sanam Saeed stood out for sure & she actually made us feel the pain & heartache of Ruhina. I absolutely loved this episode & I hope you guys did as well. Share your thoughts & let me know your comments about tonight’s episode of Diyar-e-Dil please. :)

Dusri Biwi- Episode 20: Saman ka BHAI

And the focus of today’s episode was on Farah oh sorry, I meant to say, Aashi ka beta, Saman ka BHAI, hum sub ka pyara, DB team ka laadla, the one and only- Raahim! I don’t know why Aashi had to formally announce what name she has come up with for Saman ka Bhai because we already know that she’s been calling him, ‘Raahim’. Plus wasn’t it Farah’s wish to call her son Raahim? I mean, the story is already so pathetic so the least the writer CAN do is make sure that such plot holes are avoided because no matter how minute or insignificant they appear to be, they make the play a lot worse- if it isn’t already!

Khair, the name’s not the topic of interest here because right now, I am enjoying this I-told-you-so-look, guys! See, I told you we are gonna have the piya and 2 biwis living happy together, sharing one roof with their respective children scenario here? Even though the Biwi No.1 has got some ulterior motives of showering all the love and affection on Raahim, I am sure by the end of the play, the begmaat will learn to share the love(s) of their lives and ah there you have it- a complete, picture perfect, happy shappy, FAMILY!

”Kia tum ab mujhay kabhi maaf nahe karo gay.” Umm, remind me again, who was the infidel partner here? Hassan or Aashi? Hassan. But who’s asking for forgiveness here? Aashi. Sick or what? I mean, Aisha wasn’t even directly responsible for the stunt Farah pulled off but still she’s the one supposed to feel guilty here and what’s worse? She’s perfectly fine with it too!

The phrase, ‘Saman ka BHAI’ was actually used quite a few times by Aisha because one of the MANY reasons why she is lattu over Raahim is that, ”Woh Saman ka Bhai hai. Uss kay baghair na Saman kha rahi hai na pee rahi hai. Aap zara uss ki haalat tou dekhen.” Yaar, give me room to breathe please! Even though the way Amber Khan delivers her dialogues makes me cringe, I have this newfound respect for her today because thank God, at least there’s someone here who doesn’t think that Saman’s cute! ”Yeh bacha uss bachi ka khilona tou nahe.” As sad as it is, Saman’s character is as poorly written as that of Hassan because so much, no, everything about her makes no sense whatsoever. You know what girls her age SHOULD be doing? They should be reading naunihaal, watching Disney movies, filling their coloring books and the list goes on but thinking about little BHAI day and night is not what little girls like to do, writer jee!

Oh and if Aisha poses so much of a life threat to Farah & Raahim, why do Farah’s parents easily let their daughter and nawasa go to Aisha’s place without taking a firm stand? And apparently, Farah’s mom knows where Aisha lives and even more surprisingly, Aisha knows the way to her sautan’s house too! I don’t know if Farah’s decision to stay with Hassan and Aisha surprised you guys but if I talk about myself, I would’ve been surprised if Farah had refused to go with her sautan because she has been so thickheaded since day one that it’s actually her intelligence that will come off as a surprise now!

I really don’t know what on earth is Aisha thinking? Okay, she truly, madly, deeply, loves Raahim and all, but for how long does she think she can keep Farah from taking care of her child especially when Farah is right under the same roof! No offense to the blessed brain of hers but her ‘plan’ is actually very flawed!

Hey, don’t you think since the last few episodes, a considerably large amount of screen time is given to a bunch of senseless and purposeless and yawn-provoking flashbacks? From the bottom of my heart, I advise ARY to end this play ASAP because enough is enough yaar, and I really really mean it in every sense of the word!

And brace yourselves, people because the pic below is SHOCKING!

Zidd – Episode 16!

0

WOW! Lagta hai saray pagal aik jagah jama ho gaye hain. This drama has crossed all the limits of insanity & so have the characters because anything that they say doesn’t make sense anymore.

So Rukhi goes missing the night before her desi wedding but I picked something that Qasim said. While confronting David, Qasim clearly said ‘isi ne Rukhi ko ‘mara’ hai’ & by that time they were only speculating what might’ve happened to Rukhi & where she was, so why exactly did Qasim use that specific word? It shows he obviously knows something but is just brushing it off his shoulder by blaming David openly. The way he seemed lost in his thoughts actually showed that he was kind of guilty & was trying to gather himself.

The only thing that made sense & I liked in this whole episode was David’s decision of filing a case against Qasim because he can already suss something fishy about this dirty fish. I support David’s decision because Qasim needs to learn a few lessons in life. He’s obviously a loner so I am sure he wouldn’t have a tough time spending a lot of time with himself in a prison cell.

Apparently, Zainab & Saman are at a war with each other. Saman can clearly see that Zainab’s main intention is to wreck her home but just because Zainab has challenged her & has hurt her ego by saying that Saman is competing with Zainab to win Omar over, Saman is now hell bent on keeping Zainab at her place to prove her wrong? I mean what sort of a twisted logic is that? Chalo, Rukhi ki zidd to usay le doobi, abb Saman ki baari hai!

I don’t understand when Zainab has told Saman loud & clear that she is jealous of her & her relationship with Omar, Saman has blinded herself still just because she’s on a self-created ‘Zainab Rectification Mission’. To be honest, I feel the writer actually tried to do something uber different by writing some unique characters but together they have created a havoc & it’s a sheer disaster. I really thought Saman was a clear-minded person & did what her mind told her but why was she shown stammering every single time at the mention of Omar lately? Is she already in love with him & if yes, then what’s stopping her? Yes, she is ziddi we get that but then there should be some base to support that zidd? For the first time ever we got to see Saman who wasn’t herself, who wasn’t clear in her thoughts & seemed scattered brained. She says Omar doesn’t mean anything to her but then she depends on him emotionally so why is she in a state of limbo? I think she has wasted a lot of time as it is & it’s really a high time to pack this drama up by giving Omar & Saman their happy ending which wouldn’t look like a happy ending given the torture they have put us up with.

Can someone tell what does Omar do to earn such a lavish living in the US, I ask that because all I have seen him doing is killing some time either on the streets or on a sofa in Qasim’s home. I mean does this guy really have nothing else to do? I just don’t understand why has he allowed Zainab to stay at his home? He can clearly see where she is heading & supposedly he can’t stand the sight of her, plus Omar is the one who tamed a jungli Saman & put her on a house-arrest so why is he finding it so hard to get rid of Zainab? All he has to do is grab her hand & throw her out of his house but seems like all the characters in this drama only know how to create problems for themselves because when it comes to solution they either love to blind themselves or procrastinate. Share your thoughts rather vent out your frustrations regarding this masterpiece bhaiyon aur behnon!

Some Melodious and Mesmerizing OSTs from current & recent dramas!

Drama industry will soon go into extinction, if our drama makers will not understand that they should really need to get out from second wife obsession. If I say extinction that means the value our drama industry currently holds globally. Today most of our dramas had failed to enthral us in terms of quality but on the flip side something is really getting better in terms of quality and that is our dramas OSTs.

music-wordle

Pakistani dramas OSTs had never failed to mesmerize me in fact they are getting better and better. Each drama OST contains different melody and music. It will not be wrong to state that music directors, lyricists and composers are doing much better job than our drama directors and writers.

So here is the list of some melodious OSTs from current and recent dramas:

Aik Pal OST: Well I cannot say that Aik Pal drama is a mega project of HUM TV because up till now I cannot find anything in this drama that marks it as a mega project. However I find its OST quite mesmerizing. The soundtrack is slow but Nabeel’s voice and its lyrics will keep you listening to it. The song is sung by Nabeel Shaukat Ali and Faiza Mujahid and the composer is well known Waqar Ali who is also a living legend providing beautiful and different compositions in every OST. I wonder why no one yet had given any award to him. That’s weird seriously!

Dusri Biwi OST: “Aaja piya mene tere ishq mein jeena seekha, kese guzrein din yeh mere kesi guzri ratiyan piya” Well the drama is absolutely stupid and there is no doubt about it but one cannot stop listening to its OST. Extremely splendid vocals of Ahmed Jhanzeib with great music. The music is also composed by Ahmed Jhanzeib and lyrics are written by Samina Ejaz.

Dayar-e-Dil OST: We are all loving this drama up till now. Cannot say about story much but visuals are simply stunning and more over Haseeb Hasan’s direction will keep you hooked up. Well the drama is not only good but its OST is mesmerizing as well. The starting lyrics of the OST contains Persian language (correct me if I am wrong). The OST is sung by Zeb Bangash and Momin Durrani whereas the song is composed by Shani Arshad and lyrics are written by Sabir Zafar.

Tum mere hi rehna OST: Although this drama ended 2 months before but one should really have a look on its OST, this song is beyond perfect. Exceptional singing and composition by Shuja Haider, simply love his stunning vocals. The lyrics are written by Sabir Zafar.

Alvida OST: “Dharkan bin kya dil rakhna, is se loon mein jaan chorha, Alvida aye dil alvida aye dil” Shafqat amanat ali is back with Alvida OST and his singing has taken this song to the whole new level. Sometimes you just needs to close your eyes and listen to this song. The OST is composed by another legend Sahir Ali Bhagga and lyrics are written by Imran Raza.

Khuda Dekh Raha hai OST: We all aware of talent that Agha Ali possesses in acting but who knows that one day he will stunned the audience through his mesmerizing vocals and composition skills. Yes Agha Ali is not only a great actor but a genius music composer and singer. I made my cousin listen to this song and next day literally he was tapping the replay button.

Mera Naam Yusuf hai OST: “Mera Rom Rom Khali aye,Mere Saray Khaab Jaali Nay. Mere Kol aa Dil Nu Samjha.Tu Mera Nahi”. Not only this play will keep your eyes glued to the screen but its OST is one such fantastic song for your ears. The OST is sung by Rizwan Anwar who got such a soothing voice.

Goyaa OST: “Na soya hun na jaaga hun mein tere dard se aagah hun, na torna is dorr ko mein tere jism ka aadha” Ahh! One such great drama spoiled due to dragging. I wonder what pokes ARY to drag each and every drama. Anyways if you have stopped watching this drama it’s not your fault but one cannot simply stop listening to its OST. The OST is sung by Shazia Ghazal and lyrics/composition is provided by Shuja Haider.

Seriously why our nation is so much obsessed of Bollywood songs and gives preference to it when our own drama songs are zillion times better than it. We claim to be patriotic and wants to compete India in every field but cannot stop listening and watching their content.

So as listed above which OST do you like the most?

Ishq Parast- Episode 8

Sound direction, well-thought-out dialogues and commendable performances- Ishq Parast could’ve easily been a successful prime time play but then again, it seems like all the channels have lost their senses in this regard and the most ridiculous plays are receiving prime time & weekend spots.

I praise the writer for penning some simple yet beautiful dialogues and Zohaib’s character has been etched out impressively well. I was rooting for Hamza but after a change of heart, which doesn’t happen very frequently to me, :P I am all for Zohaib and Dua :D

The characterization has been spot-on and as surprising as it is, even Zohaib’s too-good-to-be-true nature makes some sense because I can totally understand how the death of his parents completely changed him as an individual. He dedicated his whole life to Arsala and in the process, he never pondered over what he wants from life and couldn’t pay attention to his personal life, dreams & desires. Mein ek achay bhai ko janta hun magar Zohaib kaun hai ussay nahe janta. Ya phir mujhay waqt hi nahe mila. It’s extremely pleasant to see that even though he is selfless & sacrificing, he is not a fool- he’s a level headed person who knows exactly what sort of approach is required to make this relationship work. He decides to extend the hand of friendship to Dua, ek aisa dost jo aap ko kisi baat par judge nahe karega. I really liked the short and sweet conversations between Zohaib and Dua, even though the latter didn’t say much. They don’t know each other much but in some strange way, they can connect to each other. Zohaib wants Dua to get to know him and then make up her mind about him because that’s the only way he can win Dua- mein insaanon ko dil say apnanay ka qail hoon.

11138494_808792185836422_8383539086846341799_n

Hamza is so faarigh and I am beginning to worry how on earth does he take care of his expenses! He’s like, constantly prowling around and his appearing-out-of-nowhere entries are still a mystery! Oh and by the way, any idea how does he have access to the keys to Dua’s hotel room? Alright, now that he knows that Dua was forced into this marriage, he is on Mission: Dua ki tala’aq karwao! This guy may be jobless but seems like he’s resourceful- he had the khulla papers ready within a day!

Hamza tells Dua the truth about her father’s fake angina attack, okay here comes my turn to react- it was a, say, 15-sec call and Rida didn’t even explain ‘how’ she came to know that Pasha Sahab was faking his bemaari. Dua put two and two together and realized that yes, her parents were lying to her all along. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I really wanted Dua to know the truth but I think there could’ve been a much better way to reveal the truth.

After realizing how her father was lying to her all this time, Dua found the courage to hand over the khulla papers to Zohaib. I must say that the whole scene was done beautifully and Armeena and Jibran acted really well. It’s evident that Dua is reluctant about this divorce thing and I think she is in a queer state of confusion because even though she loves Hamza, she has developed a liking for Zohaib. She knows how much of a gentleman Zohaib is and now that he has admitted it aloud that he has feelings for her, it’s difficult for Dua to make up her mind about leaving Zohaib. I do feel that a few more scenes could’ve been added to show Dua’s change of heart a little more clearly.

11150165_808786185837022_2915025121934571046_n

My heart cried out for Zohaib- he clearly is heartbroken but he knows only too well that Dua doesn’t wholeheartedly want a divorce so that means there’s a light at the end of our tunnel, right?

Haha, I actually thought that Muhabbat Khan (the driver)’s appearance was a one time thing but seems like he is a local marriage counselor with a PhD in love because he knows all about making relationships work LOL! He is over-chatty and all but the actor playing his role is effortless. Asal kamyaabi uss shakhs ko haasil karnay mein nahe balke uss ki muhabbat paanay mein hai! His dialogues are well-written & witty and I am so with him when he says, ”Yeh aap sheher kay loag har baat mein logic dhoondta hai!”

I have talked a lot about Asad in my earlier reviews and I will mention him again because I really like his character. It’s just that I feel our plays should show such level headed teenage guys more often. I liked how Asad proved to be a voice of reason and instead of fueling things up, he actually tried to convince Hamza to return so that things don’t get worse for Dua.

So, what do you think of the latest installment? How do you want things to turn out for Zohaib and Dua?

Maryam Mehdi

P.S: I apologize for the late review, fellas! Thank you so much for reading the reviews :) This means a lot!

Asad Bashir Khattak to work in Bollywood as a singer

Veena Malik is back with news about her beloved husband Asad Bashir Khan, who is looking to mesmerize the Bollywood industry by his voice.

Shart – Episode 02!

Ohkay so, this episode was just ohkay, it wasn’t outstanding but the flow of scenes was tad bit better & I say that because I felt Moomal’s heart-break & her character got a lot more coverage than it should have. I still haven’t been able to form a soft spot for her character may be that’s why I didn’t enjoy seeing how things were revolving around her.

Moomal is down & depressed because of what has happened in her life & I really appreciate what Emaad & Afroz are doing for Moomal because that’s what friends do but I don’t think it’s wise of them to put their life & their relation on hold just so that they can pamper Moomal. I still don’t understand why Afroz is so comfortable with the chemistry both Moomal & Emaad share. Emaad is giving her a lot more importance than required & Afroz doesn’t seem to mind it at all. Yes, we all get it, they are best of friends but I think when two people, who are in love, get married, all the empty spaces are filled automatically where your priorities change. Going by what was shown, it still somehow looks like Moomal is still Emaad’s priority & Afroz is just his partner who stays with him in his home. No matter how liberal or open minded one is, the comfort level between your husband & your female friend would definitely make you uncomfortable but I just don’t understand how can Afroz be so normal & remain unaffected when she can clearly see Emaad giving Moomal the utmost attention & probably the attention she should be getting too.

I don’t understand what Moomal wants. It was clear that she estranged her father to get married to Sameer but when she got him, she suffocated him in such a way that pushed him to find a breather outside this relation too. Previously we heard Sameer saying he wasn’t in love with Moomal to begin with but going by what I saw, he also seemed pretty much in love with Moomal, so what made him change & even if he wasn’t in love with her, what made him give up, in front of her, that he ended up marrying someone he didn’t love?

Obviously what Moomal is going through is hard on her but she needs to understand that when she’d come seeking a shelter in someone’s home & cry her wits out in front of them, they will consciously or unconsciously give her a lot more attention, which now is making her uncomfortable. Moomal has seen how much she means to Emaad & Afroz so it is obvious that they are going to do everything to make her feel better & they are only trying to divert her mind but seems like she has made up her mind to just be unhappy no matter what happens in her life.

I felt that whole ambush therapy session with the chummy psychiatrist was forced & completely unnecessary because it just didn’t make much sense. What he said was something which a person without a degree in psychology can tell too which was that Moomal should be treated like a normal person & she doesn’t need so much sympathy, attention & care. It’s funny how Moomal keeps on talking about what went wrong & what has happened to her but when someone tries to talk to her about the solution rather than the problem, she flips out. Moomal seems like a control freak who even wants to control the words that come out of people’s mouths. She is not immune to listening to others that is why she puts up a show every single time Afroz or Emaad try to talk her out of this misery.

The note at which this episode ended left me in a great deal of a shock. I took Afroz as a wise person who wouldn’t commit any such mistakes but all of a sudden she looked like someone who’s gotten bored of her life & wants a new adventure for which she is ready to forsake her marital life & this was just so expected of Moomal. She literally has no life of her own because she has already ruined hers, so she obviously needs some activity in her life to prove her point of how bechari she is & how bad Sameer was, because of which she is ready to wreck Afroz’s home too. I don’t think this isn’t how you pay back those people who have helped you in your hour of need.

I really wanted the story to shift from Moomal onto someone else but going by the preview, it is obvious that she’s going to be all over the place as she now has a new target to achieve. I hope Sameer outbids her & teaches her a few lessons in life, which she obviously hasn’t even after a failed marriage. Anyways, this was it from my side. I really like Nida Khan’s wardrobe & I still am having a trouble seeing her & Ayesha Khan as age fellows because they just don’t look like it. I tried to ignore talking about the unnecessary skinship in the first episode but now I too think they are taking the comfort level between the friends to a whole new level which is so unrequired & unpleasant to see. They could’ve gone without it because it just wouldn’t have changed anything & it doesn’t contribute to the story in any way. So, there you go, share your say about this episode please & let me know how did you find it.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Mera Naam Yousuf Hai – Episode 6

Yousuf’s love story took a serious turn in tonight’s episode and it also became obvious that Zulekha does not feel anything for Yousuf, not even sympathy. Yousuf confessed that he knew that Zulekha did not even like him but loving her was not in his control. Zulekha’s sister’s character provided the comic relief which I am sure all of us needed tonight. I must say that her dialogues and her character is turning out to be extremely interesting.

Khandan ki naak lrkiyu k dil se kyun juri hoti hai! Everything that Zulkeha said to Imran Mugheez was music to my ears but apparently Imran Mugheez is nothing like Ali Hamza. The whole family was quick to judge Zulekha but no one questioned how wrong they were in getting this girl married to someone she was not even interested in. Girls in our society get married like this every day but no one questions these arranged marriages which do not include the consent of the girl. Zulekha is a girl on a mission but like she mentioned she does not want to see her father losing either. She is not doing this because she wants to hurt her father but she is doing this because she does not want to marry someone she does not like which sounds very plausible. Khala’s sudden change of heart was also an interesting development in the story! The dialogue ” khala chahey saagi hi kyun na ho bhanji ke character pe compromise nahi kr skti” was hilarious. I think the writer has questioned many of the norms of our society through these witty and fun dialogues. Many dialogues like this one are funny but ironic at the same time.

Untitled

Yousuf’s father might be liberal but even he considers Yousuf’s love for Zulekha madness. He most certainly would have liked it if his son married someone he loved but if the girl does not love him back and she is getting married in a few days then he is definitely not going to allow Yousuf to indulge in such fantasies. Behroze Sabzwari has always been a very convincing performer therefore he had no difficulty in portraying the “other side” of Yousuf”s father. He showed that he is quite capable of telling his son off when it is needed.

Noor Mohammad is proving to be a big hypocrite. He won’t allow his daughter to have a say in her marriage but he thinks it is okay for him to have an affair and even get married to someone secretly. Noor Mohammad comes across as a very selfish person who wants things his way.

I am glad that Daa Ji found out today that Madiha has been talking to Yousuf and I want to find out what he does with that information. Madiha does not want to be involved in Yousuf’s love story in any way for obvious reasons. There wasn’t much of Madiha in tonight’s episode but I am really looking forward to seeing more of her.

This latest episode moved the story to the next level; Yousuf’s secret is out and so is Madiha’s. Just like all the previous episodes of MNYH this one too was directed very well. I must say that tonight’s episode belonged to Imran Abbas; he owned his character every step of the way. Yousuf might not be a brilliant student, he does qualify as a “lofer” too but he is innocent and genuine. Will Zulekha ever be able to love Yousuf the way he loves her? It seems most unlikely at the moment.

Do share your thought’s about tonight’s episode!

Sadqay Tumhare – Last Episode

What an ending!! Every single scene was intense to the core and very gripping. There are very few last episodes which manage to leave a very profound impact on you but this one completely fit the bill. I am sure many people will disagree with me but personally I think that a happy ending wouldn’t have done justice to this love story We knew all along that Shano and Khalil’s happy ending was not meant to be but most of us were also expecting a very dramatic and tragic turn of events which would end this love story like that of Laila/Majnu or Romeo and Juliet. The ending however was very real! Shano and Khalil might have moved on with their lives but the love which the two felt for each other remained an undeniable reality right till the end. Their love for each other was accepted and respected by all those people who were connected to them in any way at all. I am not going to go into the details of what transpired in this last episode because I would like the viewers to watch this installment and find out for themselves. Also, I wouldn’t want to ruin the experience for anyone who reads this review out of curiosity before watching how the drama ends.

I must say that it was an absolute pleasure watching and reviewing Sadqay Tumhare. Sadqay Tumhare was spellbinding for most part with the exception of very few episodes which gave even the biggest fans of the play something to complain about. Sadqay Tumhare might not be remembered for its pace or story but it will definitely be remembered for its strong characters, spectacular dialogues and the riveting performances from practically every actor who was part of this drama. Mahira Khan and Adnan Malik brought their characters to life with a class that is unmatchable. The sizzling chemistry between these two brilliant performers definitely helped many of the viewers relate to the their undying love. Rasheeda kept most of us glued to the screen and left us hating her but wanting to see more of the malice, hurt and vengeance that she felt only because the character was played brilliantly by Samiya Mumtaz who proved that she is an outstanding performer. Samiya Mumtaz’s character and her background was pivotal to the story because she was the one who determined the fate of Shano and Khalil’s love more than any other. Rehan Sheikh used his superlative skills as an actor to good use because of which we had no trouble feeling what his character was going through. I felt for Amin every step of the way and I could totally relate to how cheated he felt. Sanya Shamshad is a relatively new actress but she never fails to surprise me, I was completely in awe of her acting in Rehaii and the perfect manner in which she portrayed all the personality traits of Humaira on screen in this drama was truly impressive. I don’t want to sound rude but I have never liked Shamil Khan before but I absolutely loved him as Maqsood. Maqsood was a friend and a mentor to Khalil; someone he could confide him and turn to when he was clueless. Farhan Ali Agha, Irfan Khosat, Qavi Khan, Tahira Imam, Naghma Begum outshone in few of the most memorable supporting roles they have played till date.

ST

I have to give special credit to the person in charge of make-up; it was an absolute pleasure watching a hero with rugged looks on screen. Mahira Khan’s soft look and Sammiya Mumtaz’s no make up look went well with their characters. The director might have missed a few details here and there but overall he was very successful in portraying the era that he was supposed to bring to life on screen. I would like to thank the writer Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar for giving us some amazing characters and some unforgettable dialogues that literally stir your soul. Sadqay Tumhare’s OST will always be very special to me not only because it has been sung beautifully but because it will remind me of Shano and Khalil’s beautiful love story every time I hear it. We all wanted Sadqay Tumhare to end and we all wanted to find out how it will end but I must admit that I will miss looking forward to this beautiful play every week.

A big thank you to all the wonderful readers who took time out to read the reviews and added to the discussions. All of you have always been very kind.

Please feel free to share your thoughts about the ending and also about the drama as a whole.

Tonite with HSY Season 2- Episode 4-7

0

In the previous review, I talked about the first three episodes of Tonite with HSY’s second season so here you have the remaining episodes:

  •  Sanam Saeed and Junaid Khan

Since a long time I was waiting for Sanam Saeed to appear in a talk show because even though we saw her in Mahira’s talk show, we couldn’t get to know her much. After quite a ‘loud’ episode, this one was considerably decent but I did have an issue with Sanam Saeed and Junaid Khan being called together because yes, I know they’ve worked together in three serials (Mata-e-Jaan Hai Tu, Kadoorat & Firaaq) but they have never had a good on screen chemistry so I was expecting someone else with Sanam Saeed, perhaps Sarwat Gillani?

I must confess that I like the way Sanam Saeed interacts with people – she thinks more, speaks less and even though I haven’t been a diehard fan of hers, I think she is definitely a woman of substance because I love what she had to say about the characters she chooses to portray. She considers it her responsibility to reach out to the headstrong women out there who know what it’s like being a woman in a man’s world and she feels that her non-glamorous roles of an aam si make-up free larki have actually been a ray of hope for the female audiences, ”This woman comes to me and says kay mein nay aap ki wajah say apni studies continue ki.’’ Kashaf from Zindage Gulzar Hai, Bibi from Talkhiyan and Shazia from Mera Naseeb- all these character driven roles promote female empowerment and for Sanam, that’s exactly where her success lies. But yes, she mentioned that she will be appearing in a happy-go-lucky role in her next film, ‘Bachana’.

jkss

Sanam is much of a private person and most of her close friends are not her costars. Instead, her childhood friends have always been there with her and I was surprised when HSY disclosed that he too is one of Sanam’s childhood friends. Sanam also mentioned that she was a tomboy and she has never been much conscious about her looks and that’s exactly why she gave up on modeling altogether because, jis din mujhay laga kay mein apnay aap kay baray mein conscious horahi hun, uss din mujhay realize hua kay yeh kaam meray liye nahe hai.

Fans of Sanam-Fawad chemistry in ZGH will be surprised to know that Sanam barely even knows Fawad as a person and you may find them setting the screen on fire but off set, Sanam and Fawad are extremely private people- they keep to themselves and share zero off screen chemistry and according to Sanam, the reason why people found her onscreen chemistry with Fawad so impressive is that it was strictly professional. Talking about Bollywood stars, she said she would like to work with Tabu.

ss

Then came Junaid Khan- to be honest, I was waiting for HSY to ask Junaid to sing a song because even though his acting hasn’t been impressive, I really like some of his songs but to my disappointment, that didn’t happen. Junaid talked about his inability to say, ‘no’ and there were some plays he wouldn’t have opted for in his right frame of mind but he had to simply because he couldn’t say, ‘no’. Junaid considers music to be his first love and he is still very passionate about music, ”music is my expression.’’
Junaid mentioned that he had a hard time learning his lines when he just entered the industry but he is improving with time. When HSY asked how hard it is to handle female fans especially when his wife is around, Junaid mentioned that his wife has always been very supportive of him- jab fans aatay hain tou woh tasweerain le rahi hoti hai!

The segments were pretty much okay but I think the ‘how well do you know the other person’ questions definitely need some improvement.

  • Urwa Hocane and Farhan Saeed

And another youthful duo! I would have to admit that yet again, HSY proved to be a very decent host. Even though Urwa-Farhan rumours have spread like wildfire, HSY chose not to pry into their personal lives. Farhan is working on a song, ‘Tu Thori Dair Aur Teher Ja’ and in its video, Farhan appears as a soldier and Urwa is playing his wife so HSY was like, ”yeh kia scene hai?” But the duo played it safe and only talked about the video and HSY didn’t force them to reveal anything about their relationship status which is something I am thankful for.

Urwa talked about her career- she became a VJ at the age of 18 and with the passage of time, she became a small screen actress and now with Na Maloom Afraad, she has made it to the silver screen.

Speaking about the bond between the siblings, Urwah declared that she’s the bossy one, owing to the fact that she is the eldest sibling. Even though both the sisters started their respective careers at the same time, they have never felt like they’re competing, in fact, they prove to be each others’ critics and this positive criticism helps them improve.

uhfs

Urwa chose to give politically correct answers and had a diplomatic approach towards answering HSY’s questions because the way she puts it, she is already the ‘bad girl of the industry’ probably owing to the fact that she has anger management issues. She talked about a recent fight she had with a director on the set of a commercial. ”If he’s watching, I hate him’’– this was a bit too harsh for someone trying to stay politically correct :P.

Urwa talked fondly of her experience of working in NMA and she mentioned that she worked tirelessly because she was very excited about appearing on the big screen for the first time.

11066777_816043261810003_2353385071528169970_n

Before proceeding to Farhan Saeed, I must confess that I have been a huge fan of his songs and I really wanted HSY to request Farhan Saeed to sing a song but he didn’t! Khair, HSY questioned him about his decision to leave Jal and without disclosing much, he said that there were some coordination issues and things couldn’t work out anymore. HSY brought up the topic of Atif Aslam and Farhan made it clear that he believes in competing with himself and has never viewed Atif Aslam as his competitor.

Farhan Seed also shared an incident about one of his fans trying to set him up by giving him a pen that turned out to be a pistol. Things got serious as he was stopped at the airport and therefore, he warned all people not to accept anything that comes from a stranger just like that.

All in all, it was a decent episode but as compared to the previous installments, it was a little dull and ‘who should win the gift voucher’ campaign was seriously absurd!

  • Fahad Mustafa and Sarwat Gillani

Hayee, just so you know, I wasn’t exactly jumping with joy when Fahad Mustafa appeared in HSY’s show because, well, I am watching Dusri Biwi and that pretty much explains it, right?
But khair, since it’s not fair to judge an actor just because he played a despicable role so I started watching the episode with quite a positive mindset but my my, a very different side of Fahad Mustafa was revealed this time.

Fahad Mustafa studied in Baqai Medical University but he is a university dropout by choice and the only good thing about studying in Baqai was him meeting Sana. Initially, the people he knew didn’t quite believe in him and underestimated his potential but now that he’s a star, he would like to enjoy an I-told-you-so-moment and call these people, ‘Losers!’ Fahad Mustafa talked about fame and declared that if he goes out to buy some bhutta, even the bhuttay wala knows and loves him. He sees himself as a chalti phirti misaal because he struggled and strived to earn a name for himself. He also takes pleasure in the fact that a small city like Larkana is known by the name of Fahad Mustafa and the bottom line is: this man’s a STAR! But when HSY questioned whether this fame has gone to his head, Fahad answered that no, it has actually humbled him. Umm okay, we really need to redefine ‘humble’ now!

sgfm

He spoke fondly of his relationship with Sana because she has been his best friend and when she’s around, he doesn’t have to pretend at all. He admits he’s quite romantic and shows unique gestures to make her feel special. ”Paisay saaray begum kay paas hotay hain.’’ Then he talked about the birth of his daughter and he admitted that his daughter has changed him in more than ways than one and he even gave up on smoking after her arrival.

Some of the questions from ‘Djuice Connect’ round are actually well-chosen and this time around, a fan asked Fahad Mustafa why he did he start a game show when what he really should be doing is acting. According to Fahad Mustafa, all big TV stars shouldn’t confine themselves to acting and he believes in trying out different things so ghar say nikla tha acting kay liye, but hosting has been a blessing.

Even though he praised both Mehwish Hayat and Iman Ali, he has quite a high opinion of Mehwish Hayat. Since he is a great actor and all, I for one wasn’t expecting him to compare two actresses who are like polar opposites (one is relatively new to the film industry while the other has been doing films for quite some time) but he was like, ‘Mehwish is far more energetic and talented that Iman Ali.’

Then came Sarwat Gillani and I must say, she was glowing! I was soo looking forward to seeing her on the show.

Before talking about anything else, HSY talked about her love for Biryani and seems like Sarwat is a big foodie- she cooks maghaz really well and Biryani is the love of her life.
Sarwat mentioned how organized she is, like she can’t stand something unclean and out of place. She loves giving nicknames to her husband, Fahad Mirza- faddi, faddu, fadhum and what not! I really liked her response to HSY’s question, ‘‘are you bossy?’’ & she was like, ”Not bossy but opinionated!’’

11130296_823472857733710_8485839623217288779_n

I was a little disappointed by Fahad and Sarwat’s views on plastic surgeries, injections and fair complexion. According to Sarwat Gillani, actors should go for plastic surgery if they feel like they are not satisfied with their facial features but yes, excess of everything produces negative results. ”Aap din ba din goray hotay jarahay hain!’’ Fahad Mustafa was honest enough to admit that he sees a doctor who gives him sun blocks and stuff for fair complexion but he made it clear that he doesn’t go for injections. I was taken aback by Fahad’s comment, ‘‘I don’t look as horrible as I used to look before.’’ I mean, being light-skinned makes you look less horrible? Shouldn’t a great actor like him only be proud of his talent and acting skills?

I must say that he has a really good voice. When asked about their favourite actors, Fahad Mustafa revealed that he is fond of Morgan Freeman and Denzel Washington’s acting while Sarwat Gillan has a high opinion of Meryl Streep- good to know that we all have something in common ;)

Oh, and there came the infamous age issue. Fahad remained persistent that he is 31 while Sarwat Gillani refused to buy that! I laughed out loud when HSY was like, ‘‘Fahad apnay doctor ko call karo aur saray paisay waapis lo.’’

When questioned about their future plans, Fahad Mustafa expressed his desire to extend his family whereas Sarwat talked about a really inspirational programme relating to Special Olympics in which a team sets out to search for special children who wish to unleash their potential and talent and Sarwat is a part of the team that sends these children to international Olympics.

Throughout the episode, I was wondering how it’s pretty ironic that a guy known for his comedy scripts is so serious and stern because I was actually expecting Vasay Chaudhry to crack some jokes every now and then but this was actually the most serious episode of all. By the end of the episode, HSY echoed my thoughts and Vasay explained that there are some clichéd, stereotypic and preconceived notions of people regarding comedy writers or artists and according to him, writing a good comedy is quite a serious profession and therefore, it’s absurd to expect comedy writers to crack jokes just like that.

Vasay Chaudhry grew up watching Pakistani films in cinemas and he has witnessed the era during which there was mass following of Pakistani films and the public went gagas over legends like Sultan Rahi. He declared that he’s never had a crush on any film actress because when it comes to films, it’s never a particular actor or element of the film that attracts him but it’s the movie on the whole that mesmerizes him. Vasay believes that in sub-continent, bald or guys with curly hair can never play chocolate heroes.

HSY asked Vasay if fatherhood has changed him as a person or affected his scripts in some way and Vasay believes that even though parenthood changes the way you view the world, it hasn’t influenced his writing in any way.

HSY and Vasay have been to the same college and also shared some subjects but they don’t come across as close friends.

Hadiqa Kiani stepped in and my my, she has changed a lot because when I recall Pakistan Idol, all I can remember are her eccentric hairdos and funky dressing sense but this woman doesn’t cease to surprise you. She has chopped off her hair and she was dressed in black from tip to toe. I think she looked nice and decent.

HSY seems to remember a lot about their first encounter. As a child, Hadiqa Kiana was a student of Sohail Rana. She was first introduced as a playback singer by Adnan Sami. People may call her pop princess but she hasn’t confined herself to any one genre. Be it pop, folk, multi-linguistic- Hadiqa has done it all! ”Pop’s not my thing- music is my thing!’’

HSY brought up the topic of social media and Hadiqa Kiani told him straight off that she has this who-cares approach towards negative & destructive criticism on social media because she believes that you can’t please everyone around you and instead of worrying about hate clubs, she chooses to focus on people who love and respect her for who she is.

Speaking about Pakistan Idol and the panel of judges, Hadiqa Kiana said that none of them were arrogant or deliberately rude- they criticized the contestants to help them grow. She is still in contact with some of the contestants including Kashif and Shoaib. She specifically talked about Shoaib and said that he was one of those contestants who took her somewhat harsh criticism very positively and this actually helped him grow as a singer and as an individual.

The highlight of the episode was definitely Hadiqa Kiani singing ‘Zindagi Khaak Na Thi’.
In the Djuice Connect round, a fan asked Hadiqa why she gave up on wearing a dupatta after her song, ‘Dupatta’. Hadiqa’s response was that wearing a dupatta is really decent thing to do but she chooses to do what she’s comfortable in because everyone has a right to follow their style.

I really feel that the movie guessing round can be improved, I mean, guessing movies like Titanic, Waar and Main Hoon Shahid Afridi is easy as pie!

This is it from Tonite with HSY S2 for now. I don’t know what guests HSY has in store for us but I am definitely excited for what’s to come  Are you enjoying the show? Share your thoughts about it!
