Shehr e Zaat – The Finale

0

Honestly speaking I did not expect Shehr-e-Zaat to end this way, I thought that Falak would never go back to Salman and lead a happy life without him but I am extremely glad that the message that the writer put forward was that following the path of Deen makes your life in this world so much easier. There are times in every person’s life when there are defining moments in our lives; we stand on the crossroad wondering where to go; which path to take? Today we saw a very confused Falak in the same situation too and learned that our religion tells us everything we need to know about this duniya. Naani put it so beautifully; nothing more needs to be said. Indeed Salman lost on all accounts and Falak was a winner in the eye of her Lord and got what she desired the most in this world too. Although, Falak stated herself that she did not feel the same love or attraction towards Salman but Naani’s words that it was Allah who put Salman in that position so he would come back to her were more than enough to convince Falak and I must say me too! Allah is Ghafoor and Rahim, The All Merciful, He forgives man for his gravest mistakes if he truly repents than why can’t humans do the same?

For a second there, I did think that Falak should not have gone back to Salman but when I saw Falak few years later, asking her daughter if she had said her Fajar prayers, I too was convinced that Falak indeed had won. All the pain that Falak went through did not only change her life for good but also saved another mother from becoming “Mehrunissa” and another daughter from becoming “Falak”…bravo!

There were so many dialogues in today’s episode that were simply soul stirring but the one that truly made me think were the lines Falak says to Salman when she breaks his sculpture. Indeed if we look for perfection in everything, we are bound to be clueless and discontent with life. Humans must work on their relationships in order to make them last and same is true for our relationship with God. At the same time the message this drama puts forwards is that Human are meant to be imperfect , no matter how “secure” or loved a person feels in a human relationship one should not put the love for a man above the love for God.

I must add that this ending reminded me of Durr-e-Shehwar’s last episode, although the circumstances were very different but it definitely left me with the same feeling. Everything was wrapped up beautifully in a very subtle manner and I will leave it upto you all to share some of your favorite dialogues from today’s episode.

Umera Ahmed gave us so much to ponder upon and get inspired from, so a big thanks to her. I must say that there were a lot of times when Mahira Khan’s acting could have been much better but I guess it was upto the director to extract the best out of her. The play was prolonged unnecessarily, Umera Ahmed herself stated on her facebook page that the play was being stretched unnecessarily and she would have liked it if it could have ended sooner. All the other actors were absolutely brilliant Mikael Zulfiqar, Hina Bayat, Samina Peerzada, Seemi Pasha, Nadia Afghan and Mohib Mirza in particular were absolutely flawless. We should have more plays like Shehr-e-Zaat on air, it is the need of the hour but I think such plays should be short and to the point.

Mere Dard Ko Jo Zuban Miley: Last Episode Review

0

MDKJZM started off extremely well and had a lot going for it till about the 13th episode, after that gradually the play lost its focus and the well-etched out and extremely loveable characters seemed to be the only reason for me to continue watching this play. I have to admit that there were times when I completely wanted to give up on this play but I could not help being a very loyal viewer because somehow I felt like I owed it to Amina, Urooj, Arifa and Junaid in particular. I always liked Zakiya’s character too but since Bushra Ansari is also the writer of the play and the one responsible for all the unexpected but quite often not needed twist and turns too , I could not help but hold her responsible for disappointing her viewers. The direction and acting stayed top notch through out the serial and like I stated earlier the characters were very likeable.

There are many dramas that we stop following after a few episodes because they seem repetitive and boring but catch up with them in the last few episodes because these are the episodes that are truly rewarding and the end very satisfying; which sort of makes up for all the disappointments in the past. MDKJZM is one of those rare plays which I would have actually remembered with fond memories had I stopped watching it in the middle! Today’s episode was extremely disappointing to say the least and I was wondering if this really was the end!

The only good thing about the story today was that Arifa finally mustered up the courage to encounter Salaar and saved her sister’s life. But I cannot help but question the way this encounter happened. They could have met in an office or a shop or on the roadside…why did Salaar have to be the guy who Arifa’s sister was going to marry. Aminah and Urooj were separated for no reason, there were regrets, remorse and hurt on both sides. And most importantly the insensitivity shown towards Urooj’s disability was highly irrational. Urooj was referred to as “zinda lash” “Bebas” “nakara” and Zakiya even told Salaar that Aminah did not know how it felt like to live with a “Normal and healthy” person. Later when Zakiya asks Aminah to come stay with them she says, “Urooj ko tu adaat hai mehrumiyu ke saath jeenay ki”. Did the writer not realize that there maybe special people who might be watching this show or many of us maybe related to such people? A person who is deaf and mute is not normal? Well, unfortunately that is exactly what we were shown that a special person does not have the right to lead a normal life. I can’t believe that this is the same drama which made us fall in love with it because we thought it was portraying a special person in a new light. The viewers never sympathized with Urooj’s character we fell in love with it. Urooj was sensitive and adorable and I fail to understand why he lost his charm all of a sudden.

The end was extremely unsatisfactory and I failed to draw any good lessons from it, which is very sad given that MDKJZM started off as a play with a lot of good lessons. I must give credit to Adnan Ahmed for doing a great job with directing this play, all the actors did a brilliant job but the storyline failed to impress. MDKJZM was a drama with tons of potential, too bad all of it went to waste.

Actors Who Are Victims Of Typecasting

0

Well, honestly speaking I am not sure if they are victims out of their own free will or it is just that they are offered to play the same kind of roles. I am sure many of you already know what typecasting is but those of you who may not have a clear idea, let me explain it to you. Typecasting means to cast an actor continuously in more or less the same kind of role, either because of his physical appearance or previous success in such roles. Pakistani drama industry is blessed with some enormously talented actors who have proven time and again that they are very versatile and can easily portray any character with precision but for some reason we see many of these actors performing similar kind of roles and that just becomes monotonous and is not exactly fair with them. Here is a list of some actors who have lately been seen performing similar kind of roles and I would really appreciate it if we could see them in different roles.

1. Saba Hameed:

Actors Who Are Victims Of Typecasting

I am sure all of you will agree with me that this gifted actress is as capable of playing a positive role as she is of portraying a negative character on screen. But, lately starting from Qaid-e-Tanhai to Aik Naye Cinderella she has been playing the evil or not so good mother. Sometimes it seems like Saba Hameed just walked out from one set to the other and it becomes a little difficult to relate to her characters. There are many other actresses who play the mother too like Shamim Hilali for instance but the roles are different; In Maat she was a down to earth mother and in Uraan she was completely different.

2. Ayza Khan:

Actors Who Are Victims Of Typecasting

I am a devoted fan of Ayza Khan because she is one of those rare actresses who nail all their characters right from the beginning of their career. She played the rebellious daughter in Larkiyan Mohallay Ki, then in Zard Mausam and now in Aks. All these characters leave no room for versatility and show her in the same light. Although in Mi Raqsam Ayza Khan plays a girl married to a man much older than her but I really feel that she has much more potential and should be given roles that put her acting skills to test.

3. Mikaal Zulfiqar:

Actors Who Are Victims Of Typecasting

I watched Shehr e Zaat and Talafi too but to me Mikaal is somehow still Mansoor from Durr e Shehwar, now why is that? I think because that character was completely different from what he seems to be doing usually. He plays the insincere man who cheats on his wife in every second play, be it Shehr e Zaat, Talafi or Manjali. He is another actor who has so much more to offer. I would say that casting him in such roles only is a sheer waste of good talent.

4. Mehreen Raheel:

Actors Who Are Victims Of Typecasting

Mehreen Raheel played the girl who had to share her man with another woman in Mastana Mahi, hopelessly loved a man who did not love her in Dastaan and now she is the other woman in Ashk. It seems like her role in Zindagi Gulzar hai will be the same too. Quite interestingly in all the plays that I mentioned above, except for Mastana Mahi, the love of her life was Fawad Khan!

5. Nimra Bucha:

Actors Who Are Victims Of Typecasting

Nimra Bucha is one of those endowed artists who were born to perform but this talented actress has been a victim of typecasting more than anyone else. She played the sister who could not find a suitable spouse in Daam and after that all her on-screen marriages have been troublesome. Mera Yakeen, Sabz Pari Laal Kabooter and Baandi, in all these plays she plays the victim; a very docile patient woman who has to put up with a great deal. Sometimes I feel like I know her expressions by heart. And the reason for that is not that she cannot perform any better but that is the demand of the characters she plays.

How do you feel about typecasting? Do you enjoy watching your favorite actors playing the same kind of roles or do you want to see them in different roles? I must give credit to many actors like Faisal Qureshi, Faisal Rehman, Mohammad Qavi Khan, Sajjal, Savera Nadeem, Sarwat Gillani, Mohib Mirza, Alishba Yusuf and the list is long (add to it please), who believe in versatility.

Veena malik, a Lollywood face and a Bollywood star started as a comedian in Pakistan, progressing with successive decline and flopped movies in Pakistan is now gaining popularity and fame in India. However, Malik tried to neutralize things by appearing as host in a religious show in a third rated channel.

How she and channel owner dare to play with the sentiment of 18 crore Muslims of Pakistan, Despite the pressure by whole nation before starting this program, how this is being on aired?
