Enough Of The Sisters’ Rivalry Formula!
I was really hoping that Silvatein would be the last drama in the long line of plays that focused on rivalry between sisters but unfortunately that was not so. I was really looking forward to the play Halki Si Khalish, primarily because for once it seemed like Mehreen Raheal wasn’t playing the kind of roles she usually does and Javaid Sheikh is a personal favorite and also because I desperately needed something entertaining to watch on a weekday. Although, after watching Nanhi, I was quite apprehensive about watching another one of Javaid Sheikh’s plays but I thought might as well give it a go. So, I made sure I watched the first episode when it went on air and was astonished to find out that this indeed was yet another play about sibling rivalry. This was shocking for me because I thought that the writers and producers should have figured out by now that people are not interested in watching more plays with the same theme.
Why do I call the Sisters’ rivalry track a formula? Well because right from the Maat days, the plays inspired by Maat have been following the same kind of formula. It is not just the sibling rivalry that is common among these plays but much more. I have to add here that even though the characters were very black and white in Maat but I was totally hooked on it. I found myself rooting for Aimen and hating Saman. The performances were very good, the story was new, it had not been done to death at that particular time and the treatment given to it was A grade. But that was then.
Coming back to the formula, the formula is that the older sister is always holier-than-thou and the younger one is just plain evil! Now how monotonous is that! At least the writers can add some “novelty” (not really) to the storyline by giving the holier-than-thou status to the younger sibling, not that it would matter but still talk about following the exact same “guidelines” so to speak but still it will be better than following the rules that were laid down by Maat. Bari Aapa drifted a little from the guideline by assigning the evil role to the older sibling and twisting the story a bit and it worked! Nevertheless, there were many dramas after Maat in which this “formula” was applied like Yahan Pyaar Nahi Hai, Aks, Silvatein and now Halki Si Khalish. Yahan Pyaar Nahi Hai was a story of cousins but cousins who had grown up in the same house like sisters. In Maat Aimen was the elder sister who very virtuous and Saman was the younger sister who was very materialistic and self-centered. In YPNH Haleema and Shumaila played the same roles respectively. In Aks Zohra played the older good sister and Zooni played the evil younger sister. In Silvatein Zeb is the honest, upright sister and Natasha is the younger one who is always plotting and planning. Now joining the league of these evil vs. good sisters are Raania and Rabia, Raania is the younger one who is very self-centered and Rabia is the good daughter who is very polite and submissive.
The second essential ingredient that is part of the “formula” is that the older sister always ends up getting married to someone who has some kind of a past affiliation with her younger sister or the younger sister develops an “interest” in her brother-in-Law. The crux of the matter is that the husbands have to be involved in this sibling rivalry in some way or the other. In Maat Aimen gets married to Faisal who actually likes her sister Saman. In Yahan Pyaar Nahi Hai the younger cousin-sister Shumaila ends up getting married to her Brother-in-Law Saim just because she is too jealous of her older cousin Haleema. In Aks Zooni likes Shanawaz but Zahra ends up getting married to him and for that reason Zooni tries to ruin her sister’s marriage! In Silvatein Natasha gets married to Bilal who actually thought he was getting married to Zeb and I think we all know how the two sisters got tied up in the same house later on. The first two episodes of Halki Si Khalish revealed that this play was no different. Rabia is actually getting married to the man Raania was having an affair with! Surprise surprise!
Another thing that is common between all these dramas is that the whole story revolves around the two sisters involved. There is hardly any side track; the writers are very focused on the sibling rivalry for some reason! I do not argue with the fact that there must be many such sisters like these in our society and everywhere else too but there are many more that get on just fine and have a more normal bond! I remember Zeenia and Serena’s relationship in Tanhaiyaan Nayee Silsilay was a breath of fresh air. They had their disagreement and they were not perfect but they were such a good break from the good vs. bad sister scenario we see on our screens on routine basis now.
Honestly speaking the sisters’ rivalry formula has been done to death and the writers should seriously think about making a play in which the sisters or even the women in general do not want to destroy each other. Aunn Zara is a step towards the right direction; the saas and bahu get along so well and even though the women in the house may have differences every now and then but they have a bond that one can actually relate to. Isn’t that how it is in real life? Women of the household – sisters or not – sometimes argue and disagree but love each other all the same or at least are not out to destroy each other! Most often even if the sisters don’t get along with each other, they usually keep a distance instead of dedicating their lives to taking revenge. Are you tired of the same sisters’ story being repeated on your screens over and over again?

Dil-e-Muzter Episode 19 – Ahmer or Adeel?
The show just got more interesting! All I can say is that I am totally hooked and I was hanging on each dialogue in this episode. Sanam Jung just keeps getting better and I even liked Imran Abbas in this episode. He never stood out in this serial because of Sanam and Sarwat but since the past 2 episodes, he has been difficult to ignore.
At the beginning when the episode started, I was in favor of Silah marrying Ahmer. I was surprised to know that Silah already knows that Safeena and Ahmer’s dad wants Ahmer and her to get married and she also knows that Ahmer has feelings for her. Ahmer finally opened up a little and tried to tell Silah to move on and look around her and notice people who love her immensely. He said it in an indirect way but his meaning was clear and Silah also understood what he was hinting at but she did not respond to it and kept silent. Ahmer, Silah and Affan looked like a perfect family when they went for shopping together. They all looked so happy but then Silah saw Adeel there and all her happiness went down the drain. Silah tries so hard to show that Adeel’s presence does not affect her but it is obvious that she gets disturbed everytime she faces him.
The old manipulative Zoya is back who knew how to fool Adeel with her words but this time surprisingly, he does not get fooled. Five years are enough to judge a person and he now knows the real Zoya perfectly and when she sweetly asked him to get Silah back and that she was ready to accept her in this house, he did not believe a word of it. He used to be a very bad judge of people but now he has learnt his lesson, at least in Zoya’s case.
Uske Dil Mein Ab Mere Liyeah Koi Jagah Baqi Nahi Rahi
Aur Tumhare Dil Mein?
I liked this exchange of dialogue between Zoya and Adeel. He kept silent when she asked him if Silah was still in his heart. Zoya is just deluding herself when she says that Adeel loves her when it is apparent that he does not.
Zoya and Adeel scenes just manage to crack me up at times! I was laughing so hard when I saw Zoya with that dark red lipstick and a plastic flower in her hair and Adeel’s comment just made me laugh even harder! Why is Zoya so obsessed with orange and red lipstick anyway? I may hate her but I must admit that she entertains me a lot with her antics.
By the end of the episode, especially the last 10 minutes my opinion changed a bit and a part of me now wants Silah to go back to Adeel. When Adeel went to Sami’s house and confessed that he still loves Silah and has never been able to forget her, I softened towards him. I was glad that Silah heard this confession but Adeel ruined it by adding Ahmer’s name in the end and voicing his disgusting views about Silah and Ahmer.
There is a huge misunderstanding between them and it really needs to get cleared but how will it get cleared when they are not even ready to speak to each other! Adeel is going to try in the next episode to talk to Silah but it does not look like Silah is ready to speak to him anytime soon. Silah is trying her best to take a professional approach when it comes to Adeel as she did not refrain from praising Adeel’s work in front of Sami, though she refused to call Adeel in her office and appreciate his work in front of him but Sami did tell Adeel that Silah liked his work in an indirect way.
The last three or four minutes of the episode when the title song of the show was playing were superb! It was just beautifully directed and edited. Hats off to Shehzaad Kashmiri and the editing team! The extremely awkward elevator scene was emotionally charged because even though there were no dialogues, it was full of emotions and the expressions of both the actors said it all.
Now I am really looking forward to the next episode. I cannot wait to see Adeel trying to explain himself to Silah. Safeena also got to know that Adeel is working in Silah’s office and now she is going to take strict measures to end their relationship.
So what are your views on the episode guys? Do you guys want Silah and Adeel back together or do you guys want to see Silah with Ahmer?

Though the channel handed over a special award to the entire team of Humsafar, the viewers were not happy of not including Fawad Khan in the category of Best Actor. Making his way through a better platform, Fawad Khan has finally won the Best Actor award in Lux Style awards ceremony 2013, and as an added glow, it is his co-star Mahira who took home the award of Best Actress 2013 for Humsafar. More on this, an underrated director, who has always proven his capabilities with ventures like Pani Jaisa Pyar hai, Shehre-zaat, Ashk, etc,. has also made his way to the Lux Style award as the best director for Humsafar. Bollywood Movie Raanjhanaa Banned in Pakistan!
If you still follow Bollywood movies strictly, you must be amused to know that the recently released movie “Raanjhanaa” starring Sonam Kapoor, Dhanush and Abhay Deol has been banned in Pakistan and will not be making its way to the Pakistani Cinemas.
The story revolves around a love story of a Muslim-Hindu couple and due to the possible oppositions from the religious elements within the country, the film censor board has banned the movie. Although, no thanks to piracy, the DVDs of the movie are available widely across the nation, Arshad Ali, a senior government official and chairman of the board said:
The censor board did not clear this movie because of its controversial story. The board recommended that the movie’s storyline could offend the majority Muslim population in the country and a law and order situation could arise in response.
The movie is ruling the Indian box office for its uniqueness and acting been done by the actors. While the music is enjoying to be a hit on chartbusters, even the Pakistani audience is appreciating the movie so far.
Pakistan’s censor board has always been extra careful towards the airing of Bollywood movies that are based on sensitive issues that can raise violence within the country.

Silvatein Episode 22 – Review.
Ohkay so some people can never change but the people around & the surroundings can. However, in this case, nothing is changing, neither the people nor the surroundings. I have kind of held it back but I can’t help saying now that the show has shown zero progress in terms of the story. The main focus is just about establishing more & more about the nature of the characters but I guess we know our characters in & out, so when are we moving on?
I mean we all know that Natasha is the one who shows her generosity & the smile she uses miserly at those specific moments when she is hoping for things to turn her way. Every member of the family, after spending a whole lifetime with one & another obviously understand what sort of a nature they share. What’s their mindset & what are they fishing for. In this matter, I tend to get annoyed by the fact that Zeb is being so ignorant of Natasha that she flips whenever she has an ulterior motive. She has proved it over & over & over again, repeatedly, monotonously & continuously but still Zeb is unable to understand that Natasha is plotting something once again.
Ohkay, we all know that Natasha is the evil one & Zeb is the angel, but where does it take us? YES! No where. What good has Zeb’s angelic behavior done to Natasha? Nothing. Why can’t Zeb take things a bit more lightly but maturely like she used to when she was single. I just couldn’t conceive of this fact that we’d get the whole peer fakir thing that too so stretched & dragged & with such details in this story line.
Rayaan has been open about his opinion about Natasha & he is actually right. I understand him completely. His subtlety, his kindness is the best thing for me in this whole drama. The way he is worried about each & every family member including Natasha, despite the fact that he hates her is marvelous. He has personified the ‘head-of-the-family’ label & has earned all the respect because he is entitled to it.
It really bothers me how Bilal blindly trusts his wife Natasha even though she also has been really vocal about her evil plans. No doubt she is sugar-coating all her gibberish in regards to Zeb but he must sit back & think again for a second that what made Natasha change her heart & mind so suddenly for Zeb? I mean c’mon, he’s her husband & no husband is such a fool. The only thing that bothers me for sure is the extremes of the natures of all the characters excluding Rayyan. Zeb’s complete conversion to introversion, Natasha’s constant negativity, Bilal’s unimaginable innocence & awe for Natasha, all this has really made it unreal for me.
Rayyan is the only character which I can actually see as a reality because when he knows how to be sweet & caring, he also can handle the harshness & knows how to extend some too. I hate to see him suffer within because of Zeb’s deaf & dumb treatment towards him. No doubt, she does what every wife do for the husband but is holding so much back, completely forgetting that Rayaan has never given her a reason to not rely on him. He has always been there for her, has always stood up for her, has given her a shoulder to cry on or has been all ears in listening to her problems but Zeb is pretending a bit too much. Rayyan, who is her husband – couldn’t get her candid with him after doing so much for her & even after living with her. But Mikaal, who was her ex-fiance that everybody knew about makes Zeb switches back to her care free mode in front of everyone & especially Rayyan too.
All this mind games have actually made me tired. I think I just can not use any more energy in understanding what is going on behind each & every word that is uttered. I really hope that the story progresses & we come to an end where all these people have a closure with all the issues.
Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.
Halki si Khalish- an unusual story!
Rehaai has finally ended and replacing it, we have ‘Halki si Khalish’ going on air on Hum TV. The drama which is written by Attiya Dawood and directed by Adnan Wai Qureshi. The drama seems to have an unusual story where we see Javed Sheikh, Mawra Hocane, Mehreen Raheal, Shehzad sheikh, Adnan Jilani, Rubina Ashraf in lead roles.
The story of the drama revolves around two families where one belongs to Waheed who lives with her two daughters Rania and Rabia. Rania is in a relationship with Behzad who sends a proposal for Rania with his mother where some misunderstanding changes the entire story and she asks for Rabia’ s hand inspite of Rania’s. This turns into a real issue among the two sisters where Behzad too finds himself helpless to tackle the situation.
Before the family could deal with it, another issue is been raised. Javed Sheikh, who is a man of rules lands up with Mehreen Raheal who will be seen in a different role from what she has been doing so far.
Here are a few clicks of the celebrities, have a look!

Adhoori Aurat Episode 12 – Review
Not much happened in the episode this week, for most part the story was stagnant. This show is turning out to be very typical as each episode passes. The evil mother–in-law and her cruelty towards her daughter-in-law is the most common story ever! What shocked me – correction – what horrified me was Zayaan’s behavior towards Maryam. Why are all men madly in love with the woman before marriage and then after marriage their attitude changes towards them? I have seen the same thing in many shows before too and this just annoys me a lot.
The way Zayaan behaved with Maryam was unforgivable and that too without knowing all the facts. He just overheard the conversation between the doctor and Tasneem and accused Maryam of trying to kill the baby. I do not know how Maryam can stand such behavior especially from Zayaan. My heart went out to her when she tried to make excuses for Zayaan’s behavior. She needs his time and love at this point and all she gets is his indifference although he does take care of her in his own way but his opinion about Maryam has completely changed thanks to Nusrat who keeps filing his ears against Maryam. Zayaan should know better than believing every word that comes out of Nusrat’s mouth. He should at least trust Maryam a little!
Faiza finally got to know about Saira and Umair’s relationship and she got angry at Umair’s deception and quickly planned her revenge. She immediately called Saira’s husband and informed him about Umair and Saira relationship. Well, at least her attention is now diverted from Maryam. But sadly, Umair thinks Maryam is one who called Saira’s husband and starts pestering her.
I cannot even recognize this weak Maryam anymore! She used to be so strong before she married Zayaan. Her strong character was what Zayaan actually fell in love with now she has just turned into a meek creature. She gets scared of every little thing and Umair’s calls scares the daylight out of her as she will be in big trouble if Zayaan finds out about Umair’s calls. On the other hand, Faiza is playing games with Zayaan and unknowingly making Maryam’s life hell. Ayeza Khan was absolutely brilliant in this episode. She was without any doubt the star of this episode.
Just when I think Maryam’s situation cannot get worse, one thing or the other comes up to make her situation even worse. I cannot believe Zayaan believes every single word that his mother says! She taunts Maryam and her parents at every chance that she gets. Zayaan restricted Maryam to meet her family and now when Nusrat asked Zayaan whether they contacted for Maryam’s Godh Barhai. What does this woman actually wants? And why is Zayaan so stupid to listen to everything that she says!
There seems to be more hurdles for Maryam ahead as Zayaan’s indifference towards Maryam will get worse and her mother-in-law is not going to have a change of heart, that’s fort sure. Maryam chose this life for herself and she cannot even complain about it to her parents. Ever her family keeps lying to each other about Maryam and her situation and tries to show that everything is fine. I feel extremely sorry for both Maryam and her family!
Let’s see what is in store for us next!

Kankar Episode 6 – The Proposal!
I was all for the way Sikandar was pleading his case in the last episode because I found nothing wrong with the fact that he wanted to marry a girl he liked and not one who he wasn’t interested in at all. Sure, that was very selfish of him but certainly not something that can be considered absolutely unacceptable especially when one considers the attitude of his mother, she is just as stubborn and unreasonable, and we surely know now who he takes after!! Sikandar is selfish all the way, there is no disputing that. Even after Kiran’s parent’s reject the proposal, he still asks his mother to go again – now that never happens, does it? Sikandar’s mother’s attitude of course was the prime reason why Kiran’s parents rejected the proposal, I am so glad that despite of being so simple Kiran’s mother is not completely naïve and she picked up the pride, arrogance and detest in Sikandar’s mother’s attitude instantly. Kiran’s mother clearly stated that Sikandar and his family had a lot of positives but his mother’s attitude was very wrong. Sikandar, of course is unaware of the situation and is not bothered with what Kiran’s family, his mother or Kiran herself wants, he just wants his wish granted. He does not even care that the girl he is trying so hard to marry does not even like him that says a lot about him.
In this entire episode, Faiqa’s main focus yet again was to do whatever she could in order to get Kiran engaged to Adnan. I can’t believe that she is foolish enough to think that her sister will come begging to her once Kiran gets engaged. I have to say that Arzoo has far more sense than her mother but she does not take a stand in front of her. Arzoo still does not believe that Kiran had anything to do with everything that happened but at the same time she won’t talk to Kiran and even told her off today. The only reason for this could be that she feels so embarrassed about the whole situation that her best defense is to not have any ties with either Kiran or Sikandar.
Adnan, on the other hand cannot seem to muster up the courage to ask his mother to go to Kiran’s house, his sister’s words keep haunting him and he does not want to do anything that will hurt her. Rukhsar has turned bitter over the years. She believes in taking a stand for herself, maybe because she is very insecure. She knows if she does not voice her concerns loud and clear then she may never get married. Faiqa’s conversation with Adnan’s mother worked like a charm, she was very eager to go to Kiran’s house with the proposal but Rukhsar made it very clear to her that it was not going to happen.
For me the best thing about this episode was Kiran’s mother’s character and the conversations between the husband-wife about the proposal. It was so good to see a mother on-screen for a change who is nice but at the same time can see through people. She could tell exactly what Sikandar’s mother was like and she clearly saw what Faiqa was trying to do. The husband and wife did not have long arguments or disagreements over the issue but were quite clear about what they wanted- very sensible indeed. There is a reason why Kiran is so sensible and Sikandar isn’t!! Children obviously take after their parents. Faiqa’s husband apparently wasn’t very interested in marrying her too but she managed to have a “happy” life nevertheless, so she thinks Arzoo should not think too much about these things, how wise is that!
I actually find it quite funny the way men are constantly judged by the women in the play. There have been a lot of such dialogues in Kankar till now in which men are tagged with certain n characteristics in some way or the other. I have to say that Kankar is gradually growing on me, there is nothing novel about the story till now but the direction has been top notch. Honestly speaking, I wasn’t expecting Aabis Raza to do so well. The performances with a few exceptions have been quite impressive too. Fahad Mustafa didn’t have too many scenes in tonight’s episode but he acted very well. My biggest problem apart from the same old story was that the hero didn’t really fit into the character but since the last episode Fahad Mustafa has been much more comfortable in this character. Sanam Baloch has been flawless all through these episodes. There were a few surprises in today’s episode, like the rishta affair was not dragged till the next episode; I wasn’t expecting a rejection so soon. Irim’s engagement being called off was totally unexpected as well. Like I said some of the conversations were very well done and Kiran’s mother’s character is very well etched out. After watching this latest installment, I have high expectations from the upcoming episode. This episode definitely had the classic Umera Ahmed touch. I will give this episode 3.5 out of 5.

Aun Zara Episode 03 – Wedding Ordeal Begins!
Hahaha! ‘Shadi pe sab tumhe is liye dekh rahay the kyunki tumne kameez ulti pehni hui thi’. This has to be my favorite one from the whole episode. I am totally hooked to this show & I must say that each & every actor is nailing the character that has been assigned to them. For me, in this whole episode, the one person that shined the most has to be Nighat Pupho, I mean even if she has no dialogues, she is speaking volumes with just her minutely accurate expressions. I guess she has completely enjoyed & lived the character of Nighat & just because of her effort in such an effortless acting, we’re being able to enjoy all her scenes.
Now coming to the progress of the story, Aun & Zara both have started to have funny yet serious realizations in what they have done in a jiffy with their lives. They took a serious decision without thinking & now they’re thinking a bit too much about it (which was required to be done beforehand). That was really amusing at how Aun tried to convince Zara’s father about what sort of a family he belongs to but just because Zara’s father is a man of substance himself, he finds his honesty worth a trust & for the sole reason he is ready to rely on him with his most precious & only daughter.
The ‘Iklota’ part has to be another thing which highlighted perfectly. No doubt the utmost & undivided attention can get you frustrated & Aun has proved it. He just couldn’t think of another person especially a female giving him all the attention so for the same reason he tried hard to call off his wedding. On the other hand, Zara recognized who Aun was & was turned off by the idea of getting married to such a burger boy. No doubt Zara has seen such a prim & proper man through out her life so she for sure will have some issues in adjusting with such a pampered boy. Zara’s father has always wanted her to sparkle in her practical life but he least expected her to step into another phase of a practical life which is ‘marriage’. I kind of find it really interesting that Zara herself has set no such goals in her life & is happily or ignorantly just going with the flow.
Finally, at such a particular moment where they thought they’d be released from the trap of a life-long commitment, to add more to their woes, they get ‘Nikkaofied’. Both of them had some strong reactions & some far-fetched plans but end up politely accepting what fate did to them. Their ‘Rukhsati’, her father’s speech, Aun’s expressions, Zara’s welcome, the ‘Saqda;, all these had me actually laugh out loud as they embodied the essence of our traditional Pakistani weddings yet revealed a humorous sides of it too.
One thing worth mentioning is the presence of Aun’s best buddy. I mean he is just with Aun all the time, when Aun is frustrated, he’s dancing, he’s stirring up some plans, he’s antsy or he’s just down. Manzar is either helping him cheer up or is at times beautifully spoiling the charm of the things Aun is happy about. One thing that really amuses me is his never-ending, ultimate & instant solutions to Aun’s problems that too which he thinks will hit the bullseye. His one liners to shoo Aun away are absolutely hilarious.
I really loved the scene where Aun, just to make her feel comfortable & a part of the family hands over her the ring. He is trying to get into the mood of being a husband, but he will take some time. Zara has surprised Aun with her bluntness, innocence & straightforwardness which has left Aun speechless because he least expected his wife to be that way as he has already dealt with loud women through out his life. So similarly, Zara will fit perfectly in that family but Aun will have to take some steps to get used to another female that has entered his life as a life partner.
Last but not the least, I am actually enjoying the spontaneity of the drama, those twists & turns that have been unfolded perfectly & over all the feel of the drama which gets you in a mood the moment you tune into it. The whole credit goes to the director & the team & off course the actors of Aun Zara because they have done a perfect job in bringing us this package.
So, what were your favorite dialogues or scenes in the Episode 3, do let me know! :)

Mehreen Syed out of her Debut Bollywood Film. Is her marriage a reason?
Model-turned-actress Mehreen Syed, best known for her phenomenal acting in the Pakistani movie ‘Chambaili’ and a series of advertisements, was recently signed by an Indian director for his movie, giving the actress her first break in India, but according to the latest reveals, the deal couldn’t work out and resulted with Mehreen Syed being out of it. The actress was signed by Chauhan, who is also known for his screenwriting and the two of them were quite hopeful about their joint venture.
When Chauhan was asked about what brought them here, he was peaceful, telling the audience that working with actors who belong to Pakistan has always been a hassle due to the political reasons. He also shared that last time when he shooted with a Pakistani actor Rasheed Naz, things turned wort for him and so he decided to avoid possible tensions that might again encounter as a result of his selection of Mehreen Syed.
Mehreen Syed too, recently got married and Chauhan further quoted that Mehreen is now busy with her new life and it was better to give up the contract. He said:
“I had a traumatic time handling various political parties when I shot with Pakistani actor Rasheed Naz. I really don’t want to go through that again. Also, Mehreen recently got married. So she’s quite taken up with her new life,”
Chauhan is searching for a replacement these days and still consider Mehreen as a good option, yet knowing how difficult it would be again, he is now looking forward to her alternatives.
Mehreen, on the other hand is preferring not to comment over the issue,

Are We Getting Too Conscious!?!
Well during my stay in Pakistan lately I got a chance to surf the unlimited Pakistani channels all day long, I couldn’t help noticing what sort of ‘information’ & ‘education’ our shows are providing us. Be it a morning show or off-peak time shows, all I could get hold of was on those silly tips about how one can fake their beauty, how a girl can beautify herself, how to make yourself look beautiful artificially & it was all about beauty – where I must mention, it was all about the external beauty.
Ohkay, I understand that they are trying to make us people aware of what can be done & what things are available in the market but just to focus on girls or ladies that too of a certain social class is by no means healthy. We must not forget that Pakistan also has the urban class too where they don’t even have an access to the basic necessities & there our channels are, preaching on how can one make oneself look beautiful using all the hideous techniques that the so called dermatologists & a few certified skin specialists have brought into Pakistan & making the less fortunate more anxious about the things that are un-necessary & yet not affordable for so many.
I have been noticing this trend from quite some while now that all the ladies who come up on the shows just talk about the makeups, the foundations, a billion sorts of costly products, those evenings & morning make up looks & to add more to the woes the endless promotions of face-lifting techniques, laser procedures on the skins, botox injections & the new craze of ‘filler injections’. They just love to blabber immorally, passing extreme rude comments on the girls or ladies who have some issues with their skins or facial features.
I once got to hear a morning show host, who loves to conduct shows on the makeups (because she has got no better ideas) say in one out of her million sessions on makeup & artificial beauty make a statement saying ‘aggar app Allah ki banai hui surat se khush nahi hain to koi baat nahi app in injections se apne appko aur khoobsurat bana sakte hain’. The moment I heard her, all I could say was ‘Astaghfirullah’. On the same morning show, some renowned makeup artist was trying to tell what sort of a bridal makeup would’ve looked good on the girl who was showing her wedding pictures, but in stead of making a person feel good about what they are, she was just trying to tell how abnormal she looked or how elongated her face is, how ill-shaped her jawline is & how bad her skin was. One comment that caught me off guard was by the host who said ‘oh my she looks like a man on her wedding day’. Sorry to say but just because someone is sharing her personal real-life picture with you, who gives you the right to underestimate her that too on a national television?
I can’t help but wonder that why the media personnel try to see people with a certain criteria of a beauty? Why can’t they understand that all the people are beautiful even if you fail to see throught it. I really can not understand the agenda they are following. Are they really so indulged in this mortal world that they even don’t step back in involving our Creator into these petty stuff they want to sell? I really fail to understand the point where these ladies who have nothing better to do are just trying to make other ladies super conscious about their outer looks. My question is that what has gotten into them? Why can’t they just let people live simply? Is it really important to be all glammed up where as completely forgetting the roots? What’s right as in what has been allowed to us Muslims & what’s not?
Making your whole nation aware about something necessary & good is for sure something everyone should do but addressing a certain class along with making conscious the less fortunate is by every means inhumane. I am sure & I can say that those who come up & flaunt their external beauty on-screens then only have that left with them because they have no insight & nor any morality.
There are a million things in this world which can be talked about. A millions things that can be taught or preached about but all the phone calls that people make on these shows are surprisingly from the remotest areas or under-developed cities of Pakistan & the poor ladies are mostly asking questions about all this stuff because they are being brain-fed again & again & continuously about these things. I really hope to see one such show on Pakistani media which I can say has taught me something good or beneficial. Some show which not only focuses on a certain class of people but addresses the whole nation equally. I hate to see them making us a conscious nation because we’re for sure better off than & without this.
Please feel free to add more as I’d love to hear your take on this issue.

Do Ramadan Special Shows Make A Mockery Of The Holy Month?
Ramadan is the most blessed month for Muslims, it is the month when all Muslims try their best to put worldly affairs behind and concentrate on making the most of the holy month. Everything changes in a good and positive way in homes as well as the national level to facilitate Islamic rituals during this Holy month. There was a time not very long ago when our television channels used to pay respect to this holy month by telecasting special Ramadan transmission, there were hardly any dramas on air in those days during Ramadan so that people can enjoy this blessed month in its true spirit and not waste their time watching dramas. Things have changed a lot for the past few years now. Yes, the special Ramadan shows are still shown on every channel but the people who host them are controversial celebrities like Maya Khan and Veena Malik.
Is that not like making fun of the holy month? How many people think that such people are suitable for hosting such shows? The channels who hire them also know very well that these celebrities are very controversial and know nothing about religion and that is the very reason why they are chosen for this job. The channels don’t care about the spirit behind these shows, they do not even respect the holy month of Ramadan, all they want are more TRPs and usually controversial people get more attention than the non controversial ones whether people like them or not. Till last year no one even knew there was a channel with the name of Hero TV but their controversial step to let Veena Malik host the Astagfar show gave them a lot of publicity, yes it is true that it was bad publicity but sometime bad publicity helps too!!
Last year the so called Ramadan special plays also made a mockery of the holy month. I might be very stupid to think so but the purpose of anything that is Ramadan special should be to specially deliver the message of Ramadan? I do not mind if there is some decent element of entertainment in such shows but how do love triangles, lame jokes and over acting deliver the message of Ramadan. I know very well that our media is free and most of all very money minded now, when it comes to making money there will be no compromise, Ramadan or no Ramadan but for God’s sake if you have to show such things during Ramadan do not call them Ramadan special shows and plays because that makes no sense at all. These special shows are aired during Ramadan only so it means that they should be linked with the holy month in some way but maybe our channels feel that people are so bored of fasting that they need nonsensical entertainment to cheer them up!!!
You people must have seen the promos of another Ramadan special (so-called) that we will be seeing on our screen this year, if you haven’t then here Is the video. So now it is not just controversial celebrities and nonsensical shows but also naach gana that will be a special part of the special Ramadan transmission. Are these people foolish or do they think that people are stupid? Can someone please tell our channel owners that people do not want to watch this rubbish during Ramdan and especially they should stop calling such shows Ramadan specials because they have nothing to do with Ramadan.
If our channels cannot take a step in the right direction to promote the spirit of Ramadan then it is my request that they should not make a mockery of this holy month too. Do you want to see such shows during Ramdan? Do you want Ramadan special talk shows to be hosted by controversial celebrities or religious scholars? Please share your views.

Dil-e-Muzter Episode 18 – Silah’s Cold Treatment
I simply loved the confidence with which Silah confronted Adeel. I expected to see a bit of longing but there was only disgust in her eyes. Adeel was trying hard not to look at Silah and focused on conversing with Ahmer instead. Zoya, however, was busy assessing Silah’s appearance. After the initial shock of seeing her had passed, she was feeling secretly awed by Silah’s aura and confidence though she tried her best to show that she is not affected by her presence but it was difficult for her to keep a straight face. And during this whole scene I had a huge satisfied grin on my face!
The way Silah handled the situation was simply marvelous, and I loved the confidence with which she gave her official speech not even glancing once at Adeel. Adeel had completely shattered her self confidence all those years ago and Silah felt as if she would never be able to move on, but thanks to Ahmer and her mother she moved on and started afresh and rebuilt her confidence and now she has reached the heights of success. But her brave show came to a standstill when she left the party as she start reminiscing about the past. The confrontation did affect her even thought she tried her best to show that she did not care. It was a very emotionally battering experience for her to face Adeel after so many years.
Nabeela and Sami were also shocked to see Adeel at the party and the same goes for Adeel. Adeel soon came to know that Sami was his senior and was working in his office as Silah’s right hand. Sami also approached Silah and advised her to shift Adeel to some other branch but Silah knew that if she transferred him, he would think she is a coward and cannot face him and Silah did not want him to think that. She decided to treat him like a normal employee and this is exactly what she did. She showed him his place and made sure that he did not talk about their private life in the office. The way she gave a stern lecture to Adeel because she was disappointed with his presentation was one of the best scenes of the episode. I was really looking forward to see her cold treatment with Adeel and it was apparent that her indifference was killing Adeel though he tried not to show it.
After Zoya got to know that Silah would be Adeel’s new M.D, she got more insecure and started bad mouthing Silah. The irony is that even when she was feeling jealous of Silah, she could not help but voice her thoughts about how grand she looked in her attire and that there was a regal air to her because of her self confidence. She kept on mentioning how rich Silah was and how disappointed Adeel must be feeling about leaving her, and this annoyed Adeel to no end. According to Zoya’s mother there is only one problem to this solution; only children would earn her respect in Adeel’s eyes and strengthen her position in the house. This is not the only suggestion that she gave, she also told Zoya to ask Adeel to apologize to Silah so that they get some share in her money. You can always rely on Zoya’s mother to fill her head with nonsense. This is the most absurd idea I have ever heard!
Adeel tried to talk to Sami about Silah but Sami indirectly warned him not to talk about anything in the office. But Adeel still wanted to clear his position and he insisted on coming to his house. It would to interesting to listen what Adeel has to say! Silah and Nabeela both will witness the conversation according to the preview. I doubt Adeel can ever explain his actions and we already know that Sami and Nabeela would never believe him. They are and will always be on Silah’s side.
Safeena and Ahmer’s father are hell bent on getting Silah and Ahmer married and Ahmer’s father asked him directly this time if he will accept Silah if she gets separated from Adeel. This shocked Ahmer but he left this decision to Silah as he did not want her to get into a relationship due to some pressure. I doubt Ahmer and Silah have a future though. Fingers crossed!
I am desperately waiting for the next episode now. The preview was very shocking because Zoya actually listened to her mother’s absurd advice. The duo just makes me laugh with their ridiculous schemes!

Pakistani Dramas – A Notch Above The Rest
No one can argue with the fact that Pakistani dramas are a notch above the rest. There was a time when there was only one television channel but the quality of the dramas even at that time was phenomenal. PTV produced exceptional dramas with innovative storylines and unparalleled direction. That is the reason why these dramas are still considered classics. Things have changed to a large extent since the 90s in particular; there are innumerable private channels now and many new production houses providing the viewers with quality entertainment that keeps them hooked to Pakistani plays. If we compare Pakistani plays to the plays that are being aired in the neighboring country, there are some stark differences between the two. Even if we do not compare the two and look at Pakistani dramas alone one can clearly see that there are some solid reasons because of which Pakistan dramas have made their mark not just at home but also abroad. Following are the reasons because of which Pakistani dramas still stand tall and have a very bright future.
1. Storylines are relevant to our social conditions. The stories of Pakistani dramas are not figment of someone’s imagination or merely a work of art or fantasy but they are the stories of real people. When people see these stories unfold on screen they find themselves laughing and crying with the characters because it is like their own life unfolding on screen or maybe that of a relative or a friend. The fact that the viewers can relate to what they see on screen makes everything more real for them and they find it easier to empathize with the characters. Watching dramas then is not just an escape for them but can also be a source of catharsis. Sometimes, knowing that there are many other people who go through the same problems that may have gone through can be a source of consolation. This is especially true for those housewives who may not have any other channel to vent out their frustrations, these dramas build the gap between them and other people like them in the society.
2. There is less glamour and more substance. There was a time when Pakistani drama makers started copying the dramas from across the border. Our actresses would wear make-up that was over-the-top and would be seen clad in saris and heavy ornaments which seemed completely out of place. That was the time when Pakistani drama industry seemed to have taken a downward spiral but that is not the case any more. Pakistani dramas do not concentrate on such baseless glamour which has no real appeal for the audience anymore. This is another reason because of which the viewers can easily relate to the characters. Of course there is added glamour where it is needed which is why it does not seem out of place. This aspect of Pakistani dramas makes them look more real.
3. Pakistani dramas do not only focus on showing social problems but are equally focused on presenting the viewers with real solutions. Countless dramas currently deal with predicaments faced by married couples. Such dramas like Durr-e-Shehwar, Mera Yakeen, Hamsafar, Shehr-e-Zaat etc have very successfully dealt with marital issues and also helped married couples in some way or the other. There is excessive intolerance in our society, most often young people are not willing to sacrifice or compromise, teaching them to do so is the need of the hour. Recently we have plays like Rehaii on air which give definite guidelines for women who are alone and are left to look after themselves.
4. Outstanding direction, superlative production values and exceptional performances. Last but not the least a drama would be incomplete if it didn’t deliver as a whole. If the script alone is outstanding and the direction and production values are flawed it will fail to impress the viewers. Pakistani drama industry is lucky enough to have directors, actors and technicians who are very dedicated and hardworking. Directors like Mehreen Jabbar, Haissam Hussain, Sarmad Khoosat, Asim Raza and many others have breathed a new life into our drama industry. There are uncountable veteran actors who just get better with time and the newcomers are equally impressive. There are many new production houses in the country striving for the best, looking out for new talent, always willing to serve their country.
Pakistani dramas have come very far but still have a long way to go. We are proud of our drama industry and support it at every step of the way.

Aun Zara Episode 02 – Spouse-Hunt Done!
Finally after a long long wait, the serial has resumed & I hope we don’t get to see any more breaks in such a nice drama. Before I comment on anything I must have to say that I can not, can not, can not get enough of the Punjabi humor. It’s top-notch, on the spot & what not.
Even though Aun thought that the idea of him getting married will drive his whole family crazy but they have supported him completely. I loved how each one of the female members of the family wanted to find a bride for Aun according to their preferences. The best part which came as a surprise was that how every lady of his family agreed on Zara just by having a look at her picture in Aun’s room. Where they all seemed so difficult at him – now looked like they don’t want to leave any stone un-turned to make Aun happy.
Zara’s part in this whole scenario looked really unusual as compared to what norm prevails these days when it comes to the marriage but is appeasing to see by all means. Zara, who just wants to escape from her monotonous life & disciplined routine found her peace of mind in the idea of getting married. I kind of liked her approach that may be in her innocence or in oblivion she is ready to get married to just any random guy, whose family claims to have liked her at her friends wedding. This for sure is something which has become impossible to just even conceive because every educated girl these days, does have a say in her marriage or in when finding a suitor for her. Zara is kind of laid-back when it comes to knowing more about the guy or his family because to her the idea of getting married & starting a new beginning seems perfect & something that she can easily handle.
I must say that whereas both their families are poles apart in everything comparable – they are equally sweet because they have taken in consideration their feelings & their choices. Zara’s father may be a strict person but in the end he is just as soft in regards to Zara as any father would be.
I absolutely loved all the conversations, those one-liners, those punches & my absolute favorite scenes are those of Daadi’s, her incessant cursing & the scene where they all are ecstatic after getting a phone call from Zara’s father. But the moment that stole the show for me this time was Aun’s dance after getting the proposal accepted & that particular moment when he says ‘Chawwal’ (because this is my favorite word which I use every single time ;)).
Even though Aun thought that after getting married he will have every sort of independence because his family would be least bothered about him – poor thing has forgotten that marriage means more responsibility & an added female in the whole clan which is already filled with soooo many of them. Seems like Aun has already started to have wedding blues. Zara who has never had a chance of living with any such female who could play a pivotal role in life is over-joyed by seeing she’s going to live with so many ladies after marriage. They might think that their marriage will solve many issues that they have – but later, will find out about the new issues that will arise for example ‘The Privacy’. :)
Now we do know what happened between Aun’s mother & his father, but the good thing is that Daadi is more supportive of her Bahu as compared to her own son because she does acknowledge that what he did was completely wrong. One thing that caught my attention & I feel like mentioning it again & again is that how Zara has settled on this marriage issue is really practical & innocent as well. She is for sure relying on her Daada & father’s decision, which is too simple yet sets a nice example as one of a kind.
I can’t wait to see what more is going to happen & how the ladies are going react once they both get married.

Cheers,

Adhoori Aurat Episode 11 – Zayaan’s Indifference
Throughout the episode I was feeling sorry for Maryam and all that she was going through. The drastic change in Zayaan’s attitude towards Maryam is very shocking, I expected his attitude to change once he got to know about the upcoming baby but I was left disappointed. My heart went out for Maryam when she imagined a caring Zayaan who was happy to hear this good news, but that was all her imagination and it was totally different from the reality. Maryam is making excuses on his behalf to try to make sense out of the situation.
Zayaan is least bothered about Maryam now and she is left all on her own to deal with her mother-in-law and sister-in-law whose behavior towards her is turning worse by the day. The way Afshah rudely told Maryam to go away when she came to sit with her was pretty insulting. I do not know how Maryam stands all these insults from her in-laws! Even Nusrat is a heart less woman who does not even care about Zayaan’s child. Her attitude has not changed one bit and she has also started to brain wash Zayaan against Maryam and her family.
Zayaan gave her family a very cold treatment when they came to his house to congratulate him. He rudely excused himself and announced that he was going to Singapore. The surprising part was that he did not even inform Maryam that he was going to Singapore before hand but he did remember to inform his mother about his upcoming trip. Maryam’s mother saw all this and she started regretting her decision to get her daughter married in that house. What is the point of regretting now that her life has been totally ruined! Even Zayaan is no longer by her side and there is no one to support her in that house.
Faiza again plays her game and goes to Zayaan’s house to congratulate Maryam and mixes the solution Umair gave her in Maryam’s juice. This caused Maryam’s health to deteriorate and when she went to Nusrat’s room to seek her help she got no response from her. There is simply no limit to Nusrat’s cruelness towards Maryam, atleast she should have helped her for the sake of humanity if nothing else. When Tasneem informed her about Maryam being in the hospital, she gave a very stern reply and she did not bother to go and meet Maryam as she was not important enough. It seems doubtful that her attitude towards Maryam will ever change now! She is trying her best to manipulate Zayaan and he always listens to her mother which is the main reason for the growing distance between Zayaan and Maryam. If Zayaan married Maryam then it is his responsibility to keep her happy but his indifference towards her is breaking Maryam’s heart.
This is what you call a big mess! Why does Faiza always fall for the guys who have no interest in her? First she fell for Zayaan and now Umair! Fazia thinks the reason why Umair is helping her is because he likes her and apparently she has also started to like him. She is totally unaware of the truth that she is just a pawn in Umair’s revenge game and that he is already involved with a married woman. She also admitted her feelings to Afshah who was relieved to hear that she has started to like someone else. I cannot even imagine what will happen when Faiza will get to know the truth about Umair!
Faiza was upset that her plan to get rid of Maryam’s baby did not work and now I am sure she will come up with some other plan to hurt Maryam and the baby. In Maryam’s eyes, Faiza is a true friend who is always there to make her happy. Faiza even went to meet Maryam when she was admitted at the hospital and Maryam again got touched by her thoughtful gesture.
Maryam is in for a rough time ahead now that Zayaan is not supporting her anymore. She will have to deal with every difficult situation alone. I am curious to know what will happen next. Will Faiza’s plan succeed? Will Nusrat be able to create more differences between Zayaan and Maryam? There is a huge misunderstanding coming up according to the preview of the next episode. Let’s see what happens next!
Till then!

Main Hoon Shahid Afridi – First Look at the Characters!
Main Hoon Shahid Afridi is an upcoming Pakistani movie which the audiences are desperately looking forward to watch, and it will be hitting the theaters finally this Eid. It has been in production for quite some time now and the production house had been tight lipped about revealing the details of the movie. The mystery surrounding the movie had intrigued the viewers. But now the wait is over as the audiences would finally get to see the theatrical promo of this movie which will be launched on 29th June, 2013.
The movie is produced by Humayun Saeed and Shahzad Nasib and directed by Syed Ali Raza Usama and has renowned names in its cast such as Javed Sheikh, Humayun Saeed, Shafqat Cheema, Ainnie Jafferi, Nadeem Baig, Ismail Tara, Gohar Rasheed, Humza Ali Abbasi, Shahzad Sheikh, Nouman Habib, Mahnoor Baloch and others.
Here is a short synopsis of the story:
Story of a boy (Noman Habib) who dreams to become Shahid Afridi finds himself down on luck when the only club he ever knew goes bankrupt. With no place else to go he discovers one last chance to save his club, his town and his dream. A cricket tournament coming to Sialkot which may be the club’s last hope! But are they ready yet? A team of misfits with no facility and no coach, can they even qualify for the cup and face the highly skilled undefeated rivals who were born with a golden spoon in their mouths and every facility in their hands? With that question in mind they decide to take help from an ex cricketer Akbar Deen (Humayun Saeed), but Akbar has a dark past of his own. When fates collide and mysteries unfold, “Main Hoon Shahid Afridi” embarks on a journey of Mistrust, Betrayal, Love, Power and Unfulfilled Dreams.
Here is the first look at the characters of this movie and their respective roles:
[SlideDeck2 id=8976]
The most shocking character is of Humza Ali Abbasi! We have seen him in the drama Mere Dard Ko Zuban Mile and few other advertisements and modeling shows and I have always admired him, but his look in the movie has given his personality a 360 turn. He is barely recognizable! His look has shocked me; now let’s see whether he has done justice to his character or not.
Javed Sheikh’s character Mian Asif Qureshi is a total charmer with his enigmatic personality, and even though he has a negative character I am totally charmed by his look in the movie. The role of Summer Nicks as an Australian coach seems very promising. Humayun Saeed’s character does not seem to offer anything new but his character of a coach with a mysterious past seems intriguing. Mahnoor Baloch is seen in a glamorous look and she will also be doing an item song for the movie.
Shahzad Sheikh will be playing the character of the grandson of Javed Sheikh and his character seems to be dark just like his ruthless grandfather. This would be the first time he would be seen in a negative character and I have a feeling he would ace the character! Nouman Habib is the main protagonist of the movie as the movie is based on his dream to become the next ‘Shahid Afridi’. Ainie Jafferi will be playing his love interest and I have a strong hunch that she would not have much screen space in the movie. I really hope that’s not true! The characters of Ismail Tara and Shafqat Cheema seem unique and I am sure their characters will be highly entertaining. (stlucysvision)
I am really looking forward to the movie because of its fresh story line and its outstanding cast. What I have seen of this movie so far has left me awestruck. Let’s see if it will be able to fulfill our huge expectations!
Fingers crossed!

Kankar Episode 5 – Review
This latest episode started with Sikandar’s mother trying to convince him that he should get married to Arzoo and not Kiran. I have to say that Sikandar’s arguments carried a lot of weight and what his mother said made no sense. There is one thing that we know for sure about Sikandar now which is that he is very determined; once he makes up his mind about something, he will leave no stone unturned to make it happen. Sikandar’s confidence and clarity of views was actually quite impressive today. He does not budge a little even; he even goes and talks to Arzoo himself. The only problem is that how can he be so sure that Kiran will marry him? But then Sikandar declares today that he was not going to marry Arzoo even if he does not get married to Kiran.
Kiran’s parents haven’t found out about what is happening yet and Adnan is the only person Kiran confided in apart from her sister. This goes to show just how close Kiran is to Adnan. The news is very shocking for him of course since he knows that he is no match for Sikadnar and also because his circumstances do not allow him to get married just yet. His sister makes sure that he does not get engaged even, before she gets married.
Arzoo’s mother on the other hand does not intend to give up on Sikandar any time soon; she wants to ensure that Sikandar and Kiran do not get married. She goes to Adnan’s mother’s house (which was definitely out of the ordinary) to tell her that Kiran’s parents were very interested in Adnan. This was most certainly a very desperate move.
I was expecting Kiran to be much more upset about what Arzoo said to her but it seems like she is not one of those people who just sit and cry when things go wrong but she believes in doing something about it. That has to be another thing that I like about Kiran’s character. Rather than crying and complaining, she called Sikandar to let him know how she felt about the situation. But like I said Sikandar has his mind made up and no one in the world can change it now. I have to say that Fahad Mustafa acted very well in this episode and I have no complaints at all except for the make up of course. His portrayal of a very determined young man was spot on and I hope that we will get to see more of such convincing acting from him in the future too. Sanam Baloch was brilliant as usual and rest of the actors are doing a great job too.
The preview for the next episode showed that Sikandar’s mother will finally give in to her son’s wishes and go to Kiran’s house to ask for her hand in marriage. Do you think that Sikandar’s parents will accept the proposal immediately considering the circumstances? Also, we saw Arzoo’s mother spreading rumors about Sikandar and Kiran. Kiran is also not willing to marry Sikandar at any cost; will she be able to convince her parents?
I have to say that the best thing about this play till now has been its direction. The pace of the story isn’t as slow as it was in the first couple of episodes but I am still not completely sold. I am waiting for the real story to begin and see how things go from there. Also, I am very curious to find out how Sikandar and Kiran end up getting married and what role does Adnan have to play in the serial. Rukhsar will not let her mother go to Kiran’s house with the proposal so it seems like he does not have a chance. Did you watch this latest installment? Please share your views about this episode.

Celebrities Who Look Alike
Some of our celebrities look a lot like some of the actors in Hollywood and Lollywood. I thought it would be interesting to make a short list of these celebrities with pictures of the stars with whom they resemble. They are obviously not identical but they definitely have the same outlook. Syra Yousuf and Shehryaar Munawar in particular look a lot like Pixie Lott (an English Singer) and Hrithik Roshan (an Indian actor) respectively. Omer Khalid Butt also has a great deal of resemblance with Ryaan Gosling. I think Ayesha Alam and Cameron Diaz (An American Actress) look the same.
Syra Yousuf and Pixxie Lott
Shehryaar Munawar and Hrithik Roshan
Osman Khalid Butt and Ryan Gosling
Ayesha Alam and Cameron Diaz
Armeena Rana Khan and Angelina Jolie
What do you think? Can you people see the resemblance between all these celebrities or am i imagining things;) Do share your thoughts and if you think there are any other celebrities that look alike please do share.

Rehaii – The Finale
So finally Rehaai ended last night and along with Kulsoom’s literal rehaai, Shamim and Shehnaz also were freed from Vasim’s verbal and physical abuse. These two finally got a Vasim who cares for them and the three girls and is genuinely trying to right all the wrong he has done in the last few years.
The last episode started out with a visibly disturbed, yet at peace, Vasim. He had asked Kulsoom for forgiveness in the last episode and divorced her so she could be free to marry Akmal as soon as her iddat is over. He goes to see Akmal and tell him everything. Tells him to man up and declare his love for Kulsoom…if he backs out, will have to answer to Vasim. Thankfully after some hesitation, Akmal also convinces his mother. Shamim finally seems happy and content and supports her son 100%. Vasim also seems to have developed the fatherly love and bond with his daughters, especially Rabi, which was nice to see. In this episode, Vasim also gets artificial legs so he can walk. He is also very encouraging when Shehnaz is crying because she is going to lose the 3 girls that she raised as her own. Vasim tells her that the girls will stay with them. He is not going to let them go with Kulsoom. Shamim also asks Kulsoom for this sacrifice and Kulsoom does grants that wish. She tells Shehnaz that even though she gave birth to the girls, Shehnaz is the one who raised them. The bond between Kulsoom and Shehnaz is one that I have never seen before. It was fabulously written and if more women actually did develop such a relationship, the world and households would be a much better place to live in! After Kulsoom and Akmal finally get married, Vasim talks to his mother about going to Kashf Foundation for help with the business. He can take care of dealing with the outside markets in different cities and the accounts. Again, we see a relieved Shamim who finally has a son she can be proud of. Thanks to Kashf, he also gets his store back… Rehana Baji is also there…over enthusiastic as always. At the end of the episode, 8 years have passed and Shehnaz’s sister is over talking about her son Pervaiz just getting a job. She then gets to her main point asks for Rabi’s hand for her 22 year old son Parvaiz. Shehnaz and Shamim are shocked and somewhat disgusted since Rabi is only 13. They adamantly say no due to Rabi’s age and Shehnaz scares them a little by telling them to ask Vasim. After all, he has 3 girls and he might actually want this to happen to make it easy on himself. She even mentions this in front of Rabi who comes to say salaam and Rabi leaves angrily and goes to confront her father about Khala talking about her marriage. She tells him in no certain terms will she get married at this age as she want to go to medical school and become a doctor. The episode ends with Vasim telling her to not worry at all…she will study as much as she wants and he will not get her married at that age. He gets happy at the thought of his daughter becoming a doctor. Shamim is in the background watching this and the scene ends with everyone content and happy. I really would have enjoyed it much more had Vasim been in that conversation and berated Shehnaz’s sister for even mentioning this. It would have been great to hear him say that he will not repeat do to Rabi what he did to Kulsoom. I honestly believe that would have been a better end, but again, there are many scenes in this drama that I wish were written differently.
On a whole, I think the last episode was the best one script wise. My favorite scene that I didn’t mention above is the one where chacha disgusting comes with his fake sympathies and tears to take Kulsoom back after hearing Vasim divorced her. Vasim sees right through him and tells him off saying Kulsoom isn’t going anywhere with him; she will complete her iddat at his house, after which he will get her married to Akmal. He asks him where his tears and sympathy was when he sold Kulsoom to him. Where was he when she had no food to eat? He berates him knowing that the only reason he is there is because his daughter is now self-sufficient and that is why he is there to take her back…to live off of her money. This really was my absolute favorite scene because you could see how genuine Vasim was and how he saw through chacha disgusting c ompletely.
Let’s discuss the script. Rehaai started off with child marriages and ended with women and how important it is for them to be financially independent. How they need to be educated and if not then they at least need to be skilled in some sort of a trade. These are fantastic topics and we need more stories on this. However, in my opinion Rehaai got lost somewhere in the middle. There are storylines that made no sense to me. For example, why did the audience need to see the birthing scene of Kulsoom’s first child? Why would Farhat Ishteeaq writ that in her script, and why would HUM TV, Duraid Productions, and Mehreen Jabbar as the director go along with it? Everyone knows labor is no piece of cake and that it is one of the most painful experiences a woman goes through…so why was it necessary to actually show such a bold scene? What was team Rehaai trying to prove? Living in the US, I expect this from western TV, but not from Pakistani Television…especially since it was completely unnecessary!
Another storyline that made no sense to me was the Noor Jahan one. What was the point? I could perhaps see it if Vasim had realized how his first 2 wives were and how he was treated to so well by them in contrast to how Noor Jahan treated him, and gone back to his family and apologized. But none of that happened. She divorced him, took his money and left, never to be seen again and he went off to another form of life of crime. Again, what was the writer’s purpose in that story line? Why is there such a need to extend episodes even if it is rubbish and baseless stories? We were told these were real stories that were related to the writer by Kashf Foundation. Really? Vasim has an affair with her for about 4-5 years and the mohalle wale say nothing to Noor Jahan and her mother? Why do these things need to be exaggerated to a point that they just don’t make sense and why do the entire teams of these dramas go along with it?
Another thing (and I mentioned this in my first two reviews) is the use of an 11 year old girl. I just want to ask Mumaina Duraid if she is comfortable asking her own daughter (who is around the same age) to act in such a role…and if so, why didn’t she have her own daughter play the younger Kulsoom? How was the script explained to that girl and what she is supposed to be going through in those scenes with Noman Ejaz? It was absolutely tasteless! Again, Farhat Ishteaaq is a fabulous writer, but she was not fit to write this script. She excels in the last episode because writing romance and fiction is what she is good at, hence the flawless episode. It was a good attempt, but a veteran writer should have been approached for this in my opinion because that would have made all the difference.
Having said all of the above there are certain things that no one can be faulted for and one of them is acting. All the actors did absolute justice to their roles in every episode and every scene. Whether it’s Samina Peerzada, Maria Wasti, Noman Ejaz, Munawwar Saeed, Danish Taimour, or Sana…even the kids were fabulous. Everyone fit their roles perfectly and they all get 10/10 for it. They were all fantastic! Direction wise, Mehreen Jabbar was great as always…I was surprised that she chose to direct this, but she did make a weak script look good. The still shots and the flashbacks in the beginning of Shamim’s own childhood were absolutely fabulous.
To end this, I hope people do learn a lesson from this…I hope education really is given more importance and I hope men and women both realize that women need to have a skill to survive in this world. They can’t always depend on men as we have seen. They need to be able to survive on their own when put in that position and they need to able to take care of themselves and their kids if and when the time comes.

Kaash Aisa Ho Review – Last Episode!
This show finally came to an end this week and although the story had nothing new to offer the show still captured my interest because of the amazing cast and their superb acting. Saba Qamar has done an outstanding job; I cannot even come close to describe how perfectly she had portrayed the role of Irfa. I must confess that I never liked Mohib Mirza because I found that he always over acted in his serials but he had completely gotten into the skin of his character this time and managed to surprise me with his marvelous acting skills. From now on I will definitely look forward to more of his shows. Sana Askari as Maleeha also did a good job but her portrayal of the same kind of characters in every show is seriously getting on my nerves now. Shahood Alvi and Yasra Rizvi were an integral part of the show and their characters gave more life to the show. Shahood Alvi as Bilal was one of my favorite characters in this show. I do not know if people like Bilal exist in this world but I always like to admire such characters when I see them on screen.
The ending was predictable but I was glad to see that Irfa at least considered Ansar’s proposal. She did not get offended when he proposed her and took it in a positive sense but she just had one answer for him; that she was married. Ansar was a new sign of hope in her life after a long time and some part of her did want to accept him but then it all came down to Rahima and her happiness. She might be overwhelmed by Ansar’s proposal but she could not forget that Shayan was Rahima’s real father and she would not accept anybody else as her father now that she was so attached to Shayan. Surprisingly even Bilal and Minahil had the same opinion that Irfa should accept Shayan back in her life. Bilal did not tell Irfa directly but he did say that Shayan would be forever grateful to her if she accepts him now with his guilty conscience.
Irfa, however, put up a good argument when Minahil tried to talk to her about Shayan and why she should accept him back in her life. I simply loved their conversation as it had some beautiful dialogues. At first Irfa was adamant to choose the new path in front of her and venture away from the old one but the only thing that stopped her was Rahima’s happiness. When the innocent girl told Irfa to accept Shayan back in her life for her happiness she could not help but think about it. It was a very tough decision for her to forgive Shayan and accept him back in her life but she did it for Rahima’s sake.
Ansar was waiting for her final answer and he finally got it when he saw Shayan taking Irfa away. Irfa had clearly told Shayan that she had learned to live without him and she had no place for him in her life anymore but when Shayan told him that Rahima needs both of them, she gave in. I felt bad for Ansar when he stood there with a bouquet in his hand and saw Irfa taking Shayan’s hand and returning to her old life. Till the very end Irfa did not truly forgive Shayan but then she finally gave in and accepted her fate.
The show was wrapped up pretty nicely and I am glad the show did not have an abrupt ending like most other shows nowadays. The pace of this show had been slow from the very beginning but surprisingly I never got bored while watching the show. I always looked forward to the next episode even when the show got very depressing. This was surprising for a person like me who could never stand to watch a distressing scene but Saba and Mohib kept me hooked to the show. Another thing that I loved about the show was its mesmerizing dialogues. Maha Malik created magic with her deep and meaningful dialogues. Its beautiful title songs were like a cherry on top, though I liked the female version better than the male one. Sohail Javed had done a commendable job as a show is nothing without its director’s vision. I will surely look forward to more shows directed by him now.
So guys how did you find this show? Rate it out of 10.

Bipasha Basu and Imran Abbas have Bonded Well on the set of Creature-3D!
It is always a pleasure when out Pakistani celebrities are welcomed outside the country and are respected and appreciated for their work, and not criticized for vulgarity. Adding his name in the hit list, Imran Abbas is now enjoying his time on the sets of his upcoming Bollywood Movie Creature which is a 3D movie. What makes this movie worth watching is its cast which includes Bipasha Basu and Imran Abbas in lead roles.
We have been sharing much of the stuff on the movie updates, highlighting the pictures, the news and what not with our readers but what we have today to share with you all is the fact that Bipasha has found Imran as a lovely person to work with and is highly impressed by Imran’s Hindi.

She said that Imran and she enjoys a good bond and often play UNO and LUDO on sets when free to fight against the cold harsh climate.

Imran’s Hindi is flawless. So, I have made sure that we interact only in Hindi on the sets of film. The unit of Creature is super fun. I and my co-star, Imran, have bonded well. In between shots, it’s either Uno (card game) or Ludo (board game) or some other kind of game that we all play to get distracted from the cold”
