Ary Zauq is airing Daam once again so I have been watching it only recently again. When kankar started I was watching Daam too so the similarities between the two plays are more evident to me than to anyone else. We all know that Kankar is based on a short story written by Umera Ahmed titled “Wohi Dil Ke Thehr Janey Ka Mausam” so those who have read the novel know that the main theme of the play is different but till now there are many similarities between the two plays.

The heroine of Kankar, is very cute, very adorable but interestingly Sanam Baloch played the lead in Daam too. Her character was very similar to this one and the settings too. She belongs to a middle class family, is a very good student, has a rich friend (in Kankar, a rich cousin who is a good friend) and the preview for the next episode of Kankar showed that Arzoo will also treat Kiran the same way that Sanam’s character was treated in Daam by her friend. The only difference is that in this case it is her best friend’s finace who is in love with Sanam’s character, in Daam it was her friend’s brother who was in love with her. Like Daam’s heroine, Kiran also is not well off but is very confident and holds her self-respect very close to her. She is sweet and sincere and will never expect Arzoo to think the way she is thinking, she will be shocked to hear everything, that is exactly what happened in Daam too. All the “conspiracies” were going on in the background and the heroine had no idea.

The class difference between the two families is a very similar too. When in Daam the heroine’s best friend tells her to give her the chain and pendant when she goes to ask for money was so much like everything that has been said about Kiran till now. Things like, people should be friends with people of their own caliber etc.

In Daam the heroine’s father was very different from Kiran’s father in Kankar but there is similarity in the appearances of the two. If you have watched Daam recently, you will agree with me. Behroze Sabzwari has never carried this kind of look before, the producer or director must have asked him to change his look like that for the drama.

Did you watch Daam? Are you watching Kankar? Do you think that there are similarities between the two plays till now? I have to say one thing that the dialogues in Daam were much more impressive than the dialogues in Kankar till now. The relationship between the characters was much stronger too. Daam was directed by Mehreen Jabbar and we all know that she is an excellent director.

There are many talented and dedicated people in the industry but there are only a handful who we truly respected and love; the people we want to see on-screen over and over again. This list of course is based on personal likes and dislikes so please feel free to add to the list. Is there any actor or actress who you find very lovable and charming? For me the main reason for calling these artists sweethearts is that they stand out in the crowd.

Samina Peerzada

Oh yes Samina Peerzada is a sweetheart inside out. She has always been so dedicated to her work. Her beautiful smile hasn’t lost its charm in so many years and she looks fresh and radiant even now. Samina Peerzada is a name that has been associated with our industry for a very long time and has never been a part of any controversies. Her career is clean as a slate and she is only getting better with time.

Bushra Ansari

Wit, humor, talent – this actress has it all. She started off very young and gave some memorable performances. She has done it all from hosting, acting to writing scripts. It is always something special watching her on our television screens. She is an asset for our industry.

Sania Saeed

Sania Saeed is another immensely talented lady in our industry who has worked very hard to make a place in the hearts of people. She is a truly endowed artist with a beautiful smile who performs because it is her passion. She is also another actress who started her career at a very early age.

Adnan Siddiqui

Adnan Siddiqui is one of my favorite male actors, he is someone who has become more graceful with age and he always was an outstanding actor. I have watched so many plays which I would not have watched otherwise because of him.

Nauman Ijaz

Nauman Ijaz is perfect in every way; he is the epitome of versatility. Sometimes we see him playing dominant male characters like he did in Mera Saaein and at other times we see him play a henpecked husband perfectly. He acts as if every character he is chosen for was written for him.

Syra Yusef

Syra Yusef hasn’t been around for as long as the rest of the artists that I mentioned earlier but she is a sweetheart for sure. She knows how to act, she chooses her roles carefully and she is too cute for words. Until now, all her projects have been very good. This is something exceptional for a lady her age.

Fawad Khan

A list containing the names of the sweethearts of the television industry will be incomplete without Fawad Khan. Fawad Khan’s expressions are just as impressive as his dialogue delivery. His natural acting and good looks have won the hearts of many. He is the new sensation in the industry, the person everyone is looking out for. The only problem is that Fawad Khan has not been very wise in choosing his projects. It is still early in his career so he still has enough time to start afresh because he has all that it takes to be a big hit.

Nadia Jamil

Nadia Jamil is very selective about her work but just as charming and adorable. Her acting is flawless; it has been that way right from her first play. The news is that Nadia Jamil is writing a play for the director Haissam Hussain, I have a lot of faith in this talented lady and I am very sure that she will excel in whatever she does.

Savera Nadeem

Savera Nadeem is a total sweetheart too; people who are dedicated to their work always manage to make a place in your heart. Savera Nadeem started her career with theatre, later on when she started working on television she was a big hit too. Good talent is appreciated everywhere. Armeena Rana Khan is the new sensation of the Television Industry. A few months back nobody was even aware of her existence but now she has managed to gain everyone’s interest with her two debut shows: Happily Married and Shab-e-Aarzo Ka Aalam. She is a Canadian based model and actress who has also featured in a short film called ‘Writhe‘ which is directed by Sharaz Ali and was shot in London. The short film was shown at Cannes Film Festival this year in May. She was one of the few actresses who was honored the pleasure of walking the red carpet at Cannes, one of the biggest film festival. Another celebrity from Pakistan present at the event was Ali Zafar and his wife. The gorgeous actress started her career with modeling and then began acting as a hobby and featured in short tele-films while she was studying in London.

She will also be seen debuting in Bollywood as her film ‘It’s Too Much’ will be released this year. She has also made a debut in an international film called ‘Unforgettable’. The beautiful actress has achieved so much in a very short time and has caught the eye of many big producers in the Industry. According to the latest news, she will be seen playing the role of ‘Saman’ in the most hyped show of the season, Bin Roye Aanso alongside Humayun Saeed and Mahira Khan. It is too soon to rate her as an actress as we need to see more of her work to judge whether she has potential or she is just another pretty face!

There is so much on our television that makes us proud but sadly enough there are also many things that put us to shame. The electronic media reflects the social norms of a society and unfortunately watching our morning shows and some of the dramas in particular points to the fact that we are fast turning into a very materialistic society with no cultural values. But the one thing on television that truly puts the viewers to shame are our award functions, there is no limit to the vulgarity that is depicted in these award show. The artists who we love and adore because when we see them in dramas we feel they are one of us, seem like people from Bollywood or even Hollywood! Some of our actresses and models feel that they must show their bodies in order to show the world just how modern they are. They have no respect for the sentiments of their fans even and of course no shame.

There are societies in which it is very common and also in fashion to show off your body but is our society one of them? I have to say that unfortunately some people want that our society should be one of them. Not only this, the cheap dances and performances in these award shows make me cringe, is this really us? Is this who we are? Do these people really represent Pakistan? Most certainly NOT. Who are we following? And most of all who are we fooling? What will we get out of leaving behind our values and picking up Western values. They say that if showing your skin was an indication of being modern and cultured than animals should be considered the most modern race, I wish all our celebrities who think that it is very “cool” to show all that skin would know that.

The viewers criticized the Hum TV awards so much because of all the cheap performances and the vulgar dresses that most of the female celebrities were wearing but the recently held Tarang Housefull Awards followed the same path. This attitude on the part of the organizers and our celebrities shows that they have no respect for the sentiments of the public. They blindly follow the neighboring country because it seems like they have this strange desire to compete with them in vulgarity. Have we completely forgotten that the reason so many people sacrificed their lives to get a separate homeland for Muslims was that we could safeguard our identities? People who are so impressed by the Indian culture are destroying the true identity of the people living in Pakistan with their own hands. They have forgotten that we have a very rich culture of our own which we should work hard to promote and protect. On the contrary, we spend money and put it in extra effort to promote things that have nothing to do with out culture.

How many of you want to see such award shows? Do you think that these award shows show the identity of our people? Does the respect of the celebrities who participate in such shows increase or decrease in your eyes? It is the duty of every Pakistani to show their discontent with these shows, so that the organizers of these shows know that we do not want to see all this vulgarity being promoted in our society. We would much rather see shows that are simple and not that colorful but in line with our culture and identity. We do not wish to put our traditions and individuality on stake just to be entertained for a short while. Please project the right image of our country, don’t make fun of our values just to make some money. If there are other people who feel the same way, feel free to express your thoughts in the comment section, we must speak up against this vulgarity.

After the elections of May 2013, the PML-N has formed its government in the country and recently passed its first budget that is still been criticized by people all over the country. While the increment in salaries of the government employees was only 10% on their basic salary this time, the government played a little cruel game by increasing the GST on every product, making things expensive in general. It was this time that a special tax is now imposed on all the foreign content whether it be the Turkish or Indian dramas or the Bollywood or Hollywood movies. Giving a further blow to the entertainment industry and the life of Producers, The celebrities are now demanding a rise in package per episode.

One of the newspapers covered a special report where it highlighted that the cream actors of the drama industry including Noman Ajaz, Maria Wasti, Faisal Qureshi, Saba Qamar, Gohar Mumtaz, etc. have  demanded to increase their pay per episode with Rs. 5000 as the GST has made everything expensive.

Some of the other celebrities have already raised their prices and the producers are now finding it difficult to negotiate with them on the said issue. According to these celebrities, their demand is just and they will not turn it down no matter what happens.

Lets see how producers will now settle the issue,but there is one thing for sure that the budget has increased problems for the poor citizens of the society who cannot even raise their voice to demand or request an increase in their daily wages.

We latey shared the big news of the wedding ceremony been held this month where we saw popular boxer Amir Khan tying the knot of marriage with Faryal Makhdoom. The couple got engaged in 2012 and finally landed up together this year. We did share the ceremony pictures with our readers which covered the Mehndi ceremony and the wedding day. The couple then went for its honeymoon and shared some of its clicks on social media and now that they are back, the reception, that is, the valima took place in Boston.
