ARY’s Shadi ki Bahar (شادی کی بہار)

The morning shows of various channels cover a variety of subjects and one of the popular subject is the shaadi (wedding). As far my limited knowledge this trend was first started by Dr. Shaista Lodhi when she hosted the morning show of ARY Digital some six seven years ago.

But whoever started this trend it turned out to be so successful that nearly all the morning shows hosts (apart from few exceptions like Nadia Khan, Farah Saadia, Juggan Kazim) also have to follow it for the sake of high TRP.

Following the same trend in a new way (old wine in a new bottle) now two channels are collaborating to celebrate what claimed as the biggest wedding of the Pakistan. These channels are ARY Zindagi and ARY Digital. ARY Zindag’s morning show Salam Zindagi‘s team and host Faisal Qureshi will be larke wale (لڑکے والے) while ARY Digital morning show Good Morning Pakistan’s team and host Nida Yasir will be larki wale (لڑکی والے). This whole wedding will be a live telecast starting from 2nd May 2016 at 9 AM SHARP on both the channels ARY Zindagi and ARY Digital. It will be interesting to see that who are the bride and groom for this wedding.

The official facebook page of these morning shows describes it as

Shaadi ki Bahar!
Shuru hone ja rahi hai Pakistan ki Sab se Bari Shaadi 2 channels per ek saath heart emoticon Starting 2nd May 9:00 am (LIVE)

Dil Lagi – Episode 8

Just like all the previous episodes of Dil Lagi, this one too made me sympathize with almost all the characters in some way or the other. The way all these characters plead their cases (the conversation between Mohid and Anmol on their valima night) and the manner in which different aspects of their characters have been translated on screen makes it very easy for the viewers to understand why these characters are the way they are. Also, there are no villains or good guys in this play, that is what makes it even more interesting. You’re not sure how you would feel about a character after watching a certain episode. Although Mohid and Anmol are in what can be easily termed as a state of war but this war isn’t like any other war since it is difficult to decide who’s side you want to be on. While watching all the other plays which revolve around dysfunctional marriages it is usually easier to put the blame on one party but that is most certainly not the case here. Mohid truly did back out and he realized it was not possible to win people by using force long before Anmol decided to take this extreme step to teach him a lesson. Anmol is justified in making his life hell because she believes that he did not keep his word. Sabiha loves her husband and is willing to forgive him therefore although she is the only weak woman in this play but one does feel for her because she is not free to live her life the way she wants. Zulekha’s stance was right because she did not want her daughter to live with a man who did not give her the respect she deserved but now it seems like she is just being stubborn. It is ironic that someone like Zulekha who is all for women who do not let men rule over their lives has a bahu like Anmol!! Even with all the lectures she gives to women about their rights, she cannot seem to overcome the typical thinking which governs these relationships when it comes to dealing with her own bahu.

dillagi1This episode opened with Anmol asking the housekeeper to finish her story, while she was enjoying listening to the interesting and never ending twists and turns, she had no idea that the maid had written Mohid’s name on her palm! This scene was shot flawlessly. Mehwish Hayat’s acting in this whole episode and this scene in particular was amazing – loved the timing of her reaction and the way she desperately tried to erase that name off  of her hand. It also indicated that it won’t be that easy for Anmol to get rid of Mohid now that he was a permanent part of his life.

The scene between Dastagir and Mishaal was one of my most favorite scenes in tonight’s episode. It is good to see a character like that of Dastagir on screen which is both comic and very witty! Loved the answer he gave to Mishaal, it left her speechless. Imran Ashraf should definitely do more such roles.

The conversation between Mohid and Anmol on the night of their valima was very well written like always but it was too long and slightly repetitive. Anmol and Mohid both have said these things to each other over and over again. This particular conversation would have had more of an impact if it was short. The last few lines were definitely very touching and deep but the first few dialogues were the same as those which we heard in the previous two episodes as well. The timing of the OST was perfect in this particular scene which helped the viewers understand what Mohid was going through. It seemed like Anmol was a little scared too while this conversation was taking place and later on when they were sleeping. Mehwish Hayat looked stunning in the valima scene. The stylist and the make-up artists deserves due credit for giving her some very different and appealing makeovers.

dillagi2Saba Hameed was exceptional as usual although some of her scenes were very typical. Everything she said to Anmol’s mother every time she saw her was very typical and it made it seem like she was desperately trying to put her down. When Sabiha entered the room and Anmol’s mother started questions about her, the mood of the conversation and Zulekha’s attitude changed altogether. That is what makes this drama different, in any other drama this scene wouldn’t have ended like this!

Anmol devised yet another plan to make Mohid miserable. She seemed somewhat disappointed when he did not mention what he had heard and didn’t seem effected by it either. The preview of the next episode suggested that Mohid will deal with this new situation in the same cool-headed manner in which he has been dealing with everything else. Hamayun Saeed is definitely very convincing as Mohid, the fact that his dialogues have been written so beautifully helps too. He manages to get his message through loud and clear in only one line!! Dialogues like “unhe khushi dene se mei choti nahi pr jata” “dil jeetna koi khel nahi hota Anmol Ji, jung hoti hai….” and many more make you feel for and like his character.

The director has done everything he could to make this drama a visual treat. The make-up artist and the stylist also deserve a lot of credit for making the leads in particular look their best. Faiza Iftikhar has written dialogues which are very deep and extremely touching, they stay with you long after you hear them! Mohid’s dialogues had to be my favorite in this episode. I love the way Saba Hameed’s colorful and grand outfits go with the overall outlook of the haveli, I wonder if this was intentional or just a coincidence.

The preview of the next episode promises a lot of drama and I am definitely looking forward to it. How many of you watched this episode? Don’t forget to share your thoughts about it and if you missed it, watch it on http://www.dramasonline.com

Aabro – Episode 20!

Ohkay so, this episode of Aabro was interesting & quite happening. May be because the scenes were short & they exposed a lot of problems that each & every family member was facing, that is why this episode in particular became quite interesting & gave us something to look forward to.

Fauzia believes in hiding away from the problems that are thrown her way, that is why she thinks that coming up with extreme solutions is the way to go. Just because Fauzia has understood that she has lost control on both her children, she thinks that the issues related to Ahmed can be solved if they move out of this place & the problems related to Aima can be solved if she marries her off. Fauzia has still failed to acknowledge the fact that she has failed at parenting her children properly & just because she didn’t pay attention to them when it was important, her kids have grown to be indifferent to her & the rest of the family members as well.

Abid on his own is struggling hard because he can see how badly her kids were raised, but yes, I most certainly do not agree that he gets a clean chit & blames Fauzia solely for not being able to raise Ahmed & Aima properly because just as much as Fauzia is responsible for their kids, Abid is responsible too. Where was he when both Ahmed & Aima were growing & were developing these sort of habits that now Abid can’t seem to tolerate?

Aima is quite a stubborn child who is only acting that way because Fauzia spoiled her to a T. Aima thinks her parents have no right to interfere in her life & she is free to do whatever she wants to. Again, I don’t understand how did Fauzia end up becoming such a liberal mother that she raised Aima like that because if we look at her background, she herself came from a very conservative family. Also, I find it funny that in stead of putting her energies to shape Aima’s character, Fauzia & even Zubaida are bent on controlling Ahmed because they are still typical in a way that no matter what a girl does, she will leave this house eventually but Ahmed is bound to stay with them for the rest of his life, therefore he should learn to stay under his mother & grandmother’s control.

Ahmed has finally decided to face the fact & put a name on the feelings that he has for Afsheen. It isn’t merely just a liking but his unintentional love for her that forces him to take a stand every time someone tells him to not meet her. Ahmed is well-aware of the fact that this news will bring a havoc in their lives & sadly poor Afsheen will have to face the brunt for something that she isn’t even aware of & hasn’t initiated herself, that is why Ahmed’s decision of keeping things to himself is right for the time being.

It was good to see that Zubaida started getting the reality checks that were long due. Ahmed told her clearly that she is the one who initiates the negativity & brain-feeds Fauzia against Ali’s family. Also, the way Abid told her that he will not let her ruin & make decisions regarding Ahmed’s life was also a much needed reality check that she had to get. The things Abid said to her clearly told Zubaida that Abid deep down blames her for bringing Fauzia in his life & ruining it for him. Abid was an obedient son & he got Fauzia as a reward which he is regretful about, that is why it was good to know that at least he wasn’t in a hurry to ruin Ahmed’s life by bringing Samra’s daughter in it. I am sure when the news will break, Abid will end up supporting Ahmed & Afsheen’s marriage because he knows that Afsheen is a perfect girl that has been raised properly.

I must say, looks like Samra & Fauzia are still stuck in their 20’s. Samra was supposedly talking about her daughter’s proposal so may be looking like a mother wasn’t have been such a bad idea. Anyways, I am sure Samra must’ve spoken about this proposal after Zubaida had instilled this idea in her but it was good to see that Abid wanted Ahmed to focus on his education in stead of getting him involved in these tangles. Also I must say, it was funny that Zubaida felt that if she’ll leave this house, it will mean handing it over to Aabro which she would never allow, but when Abid suggested selling that place off, Zubaida thought she will make a decision on those lines. Does Zubaida not realize that when she will sell this place, she will have to hand over a decent chunk of the amount to Ali because he will be entitled to it?

I am sure things are not going to get any easier for Ali, Aabro & Afsheen. Afsheen is being followed & harassed by a guy but it was good that she reported it to her mother because she herself got scared. Aabro thought that not sending Afsheen to the collage was a good idea. I must say, I was disappointed to see the aspect of Afsheen’s education being ignored in this episode. What they showed suggested that Afsheen settled for a simple B.A & a little bit of time had passed too because she said she was preparing for her exams as well. I really thought that may be Aabro & Ali will eventually come up with a solution that will enable them to get Afsheen enrolled in a medical college or may be Abid will find it in his heart to help Afsheen materialize her dream but nothing happened in this regard & I really think it was a bad move, since they showed us right from the start that Afsheen was all about getting educated & was enthusiastic about becoming a doctor in particular. I wish in stead of only making the ending phase of the drama about family politics against Ali, Aabro & Afsheen, they had put a little thought in showing how Afsheen changed her family’s condition on the basis of her education solely because what they are showing now & going by what the preview suggested also, it looks like Afsheen will eventually end up depending on Ahmed, might as well get married to him & then Ali & Aabro’s ‘halaat’ will change because their damaad might become a doctor. I feel a little sad about the way Afsheen’s track has been handled because we all were waiting to see her becoming self-sufficient & supporting her parents financially & also, we wanted to see her achieving so much in her life due to education because of which she had proved everyone wrong who had belittled her mother & father & had thought that nothing good will ever happen to them!!!

Anyways, the preview of the next episode suggested that Ahmed will speak to Afsheen & might as well propose her. It looks like Afsheen will start thinking on those lines as well because she was seen speaking about it to her mother. Ahmed will definitely get in trouble for protecting Afsheen & that will put Afsheen in a lot of trouble too. I know it is mean but I had a good laugh when Zubaida was insulted & was later seen crying over how Ahmed misbehaved with her, haha! Please share your thoughts about this episode of Aabro.

“Maula Jatt Remake Could be The Joke Of The Century.” – Nadia Khan

0

Bilal Lashari’s upcoming film which is inspired by Maula Jatt was greatly criticized by Nadia Khan on her show. Mustafa Qureshi who played the villain Noori Natt in the iconic film was also present on the show. While Nadia Khan severely criticized this idea of remaking the film because she believes that such films should be cherished, Mustafa Qureshi did not criticize it.

Nadia Khan said,

“The remake of such a classic is a big if, but, maybe!!!! It is a big challenge. Fawad Khan and Hamza Ali Abbasi have been cast for the leading role, will they really be able to do justice to these strong characters? Either it will really be a different and entertaining film or it will be the joke of the century.”

12

Nadia Khan is known for giving blunt statements about everything and this was another one of these blunt statements. Mustafa Qureshi interrupted her and said that the people who are making this film must have thought things through before planning this remake. To this Nadia Khan replied,

“A lot of things are done without much thinking going into them. It is not necessary that they thought this through before making a final decision.”

10

She also implied that because people have tons of money so they very often take up projects to please themselves. She said,

“We are very emotional people. Sometimes we do things only because we want to and also because there is enough money available for it. All you need is a desire to make a film and money, now how this film turns up can be a joke of the century of a big hit.”

Sajjal Ali in Bollywood

The Mumbai based film industry of our neighboring country India is known as Bollywood. It is one of the largest film industry of the world which produced films in Hindi language. Bollywood films are popular worldwide whereever Hindi/Urdu is spoken.

Despite having decades of tense relationship with India, in Pakistan Bollywood films have always been popular among cine goers. Many Pakistani artists have also tried their luck in the Bollywood films in singing, music and acting. Though Pakistani artists have been successful in the singing and music, none of these have been able to sustain a long run success in the acting.

The recent addition in this list is Sajjal Ali who is working in a Bollywood film Mom. She will be playing the role of the daughter of famous Bollywood star Sridevi in this film. Mom is produced by Boney Kapoor who is also the husband of Sridevi

Sajjal is in Georgia these days for the shooting of the film and has also shared her pictures on the instagram.

Though Bollywood films and their content are extremely popular and successful with the Pakistani film fans and these film also register huge success on Pakistani box office. But work of any Pakistani actor in a Bollywood film especially female actor is seldom appreciated by Pakistani audience and media. Most of the times such actors face harsh response on social media. Lets hope the experience of Sajjal will be a pleasant one unlike the other Pakistani artists.

Sehra Main SUFFER – Episode 19!

Ohkay so, I would’ve been so so so happy if this drama had ended today. I am sure those who’ve followed the drama till this episode would definitely agree with me as there’s no point in showing the jethani/devrani rivalry like a typical Star Plus drama. They have shown us enough & it definitely was the right time to wrap this drama up, but they’re past that stage & we know what a disaster it is when that happens!

Iqra has realized her mistakes & she can’t help apologizing to each & every person around her. Her family is supportive, her husband Ayaaz is totally in love with her & voila, her life is complete. I so wish these would’ve been the ending lines that I had written about this drama but nope, they stole that opportunity from me as they decided to throw Nuzhat in my face like a punishment for following this journey till this episode & for deciding to watch it till the end in a hope that this drama will end at a good note…seriously, my bad!!!

Like a very dear reader said it the last week that Nuzhat was introduced as a useless character where she happened to become a reason how Iqra found her earrings on Annie, then Ayaaz getting Annie’s number through Nuzhat, we all agreed that she was fine like a side character till that extent but the coverage not only she but her breakfast, anday, doodh, bread, gosht, sabzi, daal, bijli paani ka bill is getting is annoying to the core. I am not really sure what the writer here is trying to tell? We all are aware of that one member of the family who discusses these things but I believe people watch these dramas as an escape from their daily routines & lives, so not sure if introducing the typical character like Nuzhat as a reminder of what most of the people go through in their daily lives was a right idea of an entertainment because to me she was everything but entertaining!

Ohkay so, Taimur’s idea of love is following your wife’s orders like a servant. He thinks he showcases how much he loves his Negative Nancy Nuzhat by following her orders without questioning her & he thinks throwing his common sense out of the window is how he will make his wife realize just how much he loves her. I really believe Taimur & Nuzhat are a waste of frame, waste of screen & waste of time in this drama. I so expected Taimur to tell Nuzhat off for all the insults she threw at his family members but he was too busy chugging down the doodh & chai that he forgot his husband-ish duties too!

This drama was about Iqra & her Safar through Sehra, so I am not really sure why the writer turned it into a Suffer through Sehra now when she has become a part of another family. I really think that Fauzia, in stead of talking to Ayaaz, should do some serious talking to Nuzhat & tell her to mind her own business. I am not sure what made the writer bring the sidest of all & saddest of all character into the limelight like a true villainess because we all were doing just fine without her presence in the drama & it just doesn’t make sense but yes, what it does tell us is that may be because the show was getting a higher rating, the producers decided not to end the drama up untill the viewers will give up on it & there you go Mr. Producer, the viewers are tired of it & it needs to end ASAP!

I really think they should’ve toned down the curls & colors on Iqra’s face & dress during her wedding sequence because nothing went well with her personality. She is a pretty face but didn’t look good at all during those scenes. However, I must say it was good to see Iqra & Ayaaz sharing some good moments together where Ayaaz tried to cheer her up after she was down due to the gibberish Nuzhat blurted. It is good that Iqra hasn’t stopped relying emotionally on Ayaaz & Ayaaz is making sure Iqra feels loved. Nuzhat took her fixation with doodh, talaq-yafta Iqra & her jealousy to another level. I really think it would be a right thing for Taimur & Nuzhat to move out of this house because that will guarantee the end of this drama & I am definitely rooting for that.

The preview of the next episode was horrific where the talks about gosht, doodh & dabbal roti will be taken to another level & we’ll also get to know that the fridge in Ayaaz’s home can only house 3 andas, hahah hilarious!!! Also, I found it really really petty & funny that Nuzhat avoided giving some milk for Ayaaz’s tea but filled two big fat glasses for herself & her husband just to make him realize that he has worked for this glass & he had a full right to drink this hard-earned milk, like seriously, the creative (?) team behind this drama really needs to grow up. I must say I feel that HUM TV’s quality has deteriorated where the moment they see any drama getting a good rating, is the moment they decide to drag & stretch it to make the most profits out of it. In my honest & humble opinion, these tacts do not suit a channel like HUM TV, that has a huge viewership & massive popularity already!!! Anyways, please share your thoughts about this saga of doodh & andas!

Cheers,

Kisay Chahoon – Episodes 25 & 26

0

Aap mujhay jaan se bhi maar dain gay na tab bhi nahin choron gi aap ko – epic! I have watched lots of dramas over the years but this has to be one of the best dialogues as far as believability and dialogue truly matching the character goes. Because I do believe, even if Hamza killed Mareena – she still would not leave him and would find a way to haunt him – oops, lurrve him and be around him! Ha!

So, Ameer our miskeen majnu is moping around at his mother’s house, waiting for what – Mehru to sign the divorce paper? Ameer’s ‘bechargi’ is beginning to annoy me – correction, it had begun to annoy me a few episodes ago and is just getting worse. We felt for him when he married Mehru and she was nasty to him and when she asks for the divorce but really hanging around with a long face is worrying his mother now too and he should probably try to begin to come to terms with the end of his marriage – or whatever it was he and Mehru had.

It appears that Hamza’s mother Shakra went to bed one night and had a soul/heart swap and woke the next morning a different person. Her change of heart is brought upon by the guilt that Hamza has suffered enough, physically and mentally and ‘deserves’ Mehru now. Mehru’s mother although a bit taken aback at first, seems to agree that this is the best thing for Mehru now and has suddenly grown a backbone and takes a stand against her husband, insisting that this is in the best interest for Mehru and that is that.

Mehru. Mehru needs to stop talking to her mother. Her sister. Definitely Hamza. I would say her father, but they rarely talked. And Ameer has switched off his phone so she can not talk to him either. She needs to connect with her own head and decide Hamza? Ameer? None of the above. And spit it out. Convincingly! Why was she meeting Hamza then? To ask him why his mother spoke to her mother about their rishta. Then why not ring him? Surely she could ask him that over the phone. Yes, I am beginning to believe she may not feel for Hamza now but then why this constant need to meet and talk to him to show people that oh look I meet him, you can talk about us all you like but in my heart I know I have no feelings for him and that’s all that matters, so there! Sounds weird, doesn’t it? I think so too!

PIC1

Hamza apparently is quite clear that it is Mehru he wants and he wants nothing to do with Mareena anymore. Mareena however seems to have also undergone the same spiritual transformation that Shakra went through. She has not turned over a new leaf entirely, the way Shakra has not either – half baked spiritual transformation if there ever was one – but she has started to do more than scream, yell and flounce. I did find her sitting on the ground outside Hamza’s house such a silly scene though. Hamza however minces no words nor actions in showing Mareena he wants her out of his room, his house, his life.

I do believe parents want what is best for their children. I am a parent myself and sometimes a child can not see yet what an adult can sense is in best interests of the child. But when your grown adult son or daughter is so very clearly miserable over a decision you find appropriate – surely emotional blackmail and force is not the way forward? Mehru’s father did not like Hamza and he forced Mehru into marrying Ameer. Now, Ameer who is so clearly in love with Mehru is being emotionally blackmailed by his mother to remarry – and that too Mehru’s sister! When their father was strict about Maryam not continuing her studies, she did not cave in and was more firm than Mehru by taking a stand and moving out to Mehru’s house. Surely he can not believe he can coerce her into this marriage? He does say he does not believe in imposing the decision on Ameer and Maryam but I do not see any of them jumping at the opportunity. Except – next week’s preview suggests Maryam has a very different reaction to what we would have expected. I can not help but wonder though if she is calling Mehru’s bluff to see how she reacts. Either way – I find the whole Ameer-Maryam rishta to be in poor taste.

I am past caring about Hamza and Mareena now. Despite all her psychiatrist appointments and moving into Hamza’s house I would find it hard to believe that Mareena would find peace in her new home and life.

I understand a drama needs to be stretched into 20 some episodes to make it a drama for the story is quite simple and if they were to race through it then we would not have a drama! But still – I feel it should be wrapped up now and hope the drama ends next week. Ameer, Mehru, Hamza, Mareena – are all beginning to annoy me now and need to sort out their lives asap!

Are you all finding the recent episodes as interesting as the drama initially was or thinking it is time for it to wrap up now? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Mein Sitara – Episode 7

This was yet another episode of Mein Sitara which kept me glued to my television screen right from the very first scene. There are rarely any stories or characters in dramas nowadays which give you very little to complain about. Most often there are times when the writers and directors rely on convenient ways to take the story forward which don’t always make sense. That is when the viewers start questioning the developments in the story and the intentions of the characters are also questioned. Well, I can safely say that after watching this drama for 7 weeks now I am very convinced that Mein Sitara will continue to have a solid story. The logical developments in the story and characters which are brilliantly etched-out make this drama not only entertaining but it makes all the characters and tracks easy to connect to. Tonight’s episode of Mein Sitara did not have a single unnecessary scene to its credit. Mein Sitara is also ‘unique’ because it is one of those few dramas which you must watch every week in order to grasp the story because every episode adds something tangible to the storyline.

ms1

This episode focused on Sitara’s first few days in the film industry and on the sets of her first film. The first scene was perfect; Sitara managed to regain her lost confidence only when she saw Jharna on the set, it would have been highly unbelievable if she gave an excellent performance without Jharna’s presence on the set since she was surrounded by people who were very eager to bring her down. Naseem only came to the set to make things more difficult for Sitara and to make sure that she was there to brainwash Farhad but Jharna’s presence there changed everything at least for Sitara. Unfortunately, the way Sitara conveyed everything to Jharna suggested that something was going on between Farhad and Naseem. Sitara is naive and she has no idea what repercussions the kind of feedback she gives can have for Jharna and Farhad’s married life. It was refreshing to watch Farhad Sethi’s ‘contained’ reaction because had he been blown away by Sitara instantly it would have not been the same. The scene in which Sitara remembers her childhood was another part of this episode which basically went to show that the director has done complete justice to this script. That scene one again showed the girl we all loved as Surraya when she was little and it also went to show how far she had come! Aisha Gul and Saba Qamar’s on screen chemistry coupled with the brilliant acting by both these actresses makes their scenes really special. Although Jharna keeps on reminding Surraya why she helped her become Sitara but it never seems like she is trying to belittle her or to make her more indebted to her.

ms3

Unlike many other dramas all the characters are given enough screen time in Mein Sitara and they are not ‘forgotten’! The fact that Sitara’s parents were shown yet again in this episode indicated that the writer and the director have a lot of surprises in store for us in the future too. In this particular case there was a very solid reason for not showing her parents again but watching them in the context in which they were shown suggested that at some point Sitara might have a confrontation with the parents who deserted her for money. This latest development definitely added something new and interesting to the story.

Naseem’s insecurities were highlighted in this episode but there was no mention of a secret which was another pleasant surprise. The only reason it seems Farhad is putting up with Naseem’s tantrums is that he believes that she is the only heroine who can make his films stand out. Mikaal Zulfiqar owns his character as Farhad. It is great to see him playing a different role and excelling in it. Naseem was given a lot of screen time in tonight’s episode probably because these latest developments will be the determining factor for Sitara’s future in the film industry. Meera has surprised me with her acting. She was the perfect choice for playing this role, she has done complete justice to her role. I am certain having her on the sets must have proved to be an interesting experience for her co stars as well:)  Jamal’s character is turning out to be an interesting one as well. As it turns out he isn’t very ‘loyal’ to Naseem and he is not going to help her create problems for Sitara. On the other hand we saw him giving Sitara advices which might in his opinion help her.

This episode ended with Farhad finding out that Sitara was eavesdropping while he and Naseem were talking in the make-up room. Although Farhad was terribly upset with Sitara by the end of the episode but the preview of the next episode suggests that things will work out between them.

Seema Taher Khan deserves tons of appreciation for not only directing this play  brilliantly but also for being bold enough to cast Meera in this drama since this is the first time that she is playing such an important role in a drama. And also because the viewers are not used to watching her on screen therefore there was no way to be sure how the viewers will react. I must thank the director, producer and the writer for not playing it safe, for not sticking to the ‘formula’ which is being widely used by everyone in the business to earn money. The fact that there are still some people in our drama industry who are not afraid of taking risks gives us hope that the viewers will always get to see some quality dramas even if they air every now and then!

Loved this episode of Mein Sitara and can’t wait to hear everyone’s views about it. Don’t forget to comment. If you missed this episode, watch it on http://www.dramasonline.com

Ayeza Khan’s Latest Photo Shoot

0

Ayeza Khan is one of those very few celebrities who make sure that everything that they are doing is posted on their facebook page. She keeps her fans in the loop and also reads whatever comments she gets although she doesn’t reply to these comments. She only reacted to some rude comments once but other than that she is very tolerant of people who make rude comments on her facebook posts. Ayeza Khan also said in one of her interviews that it was the right of the fans to see the pictures of their favorite celebrities even if these pictures were sometimes personal in nature. Ayeza Khan keeps on sharing pictures with her family on her page too for this reason unlike many other actresses who do not like to share family pictures and especially the pictures of their children. Ayeza Khan recently did a photo shoot for Al Zohaib textile in which she endorsed their lawn collection.

Here are some pictures from the photo shoot.

Nadia Khan started hosting a show after a taking a break for a long period of 5 years. Nadia Khan is known as the pioneer of Morning Shows. She is also known for her blunt questioning and a different format of the show. In her show she showed her disgust with the recent trend of fancy and fake marriages in Morning Shows and all the other things which hosts stage just to get attention from the viewers. She was also seen criticizing the quality of Pakistani dramas in her show.

nadia khan

The latest news is that Nadia Khan is taking a break from hosting once again. This time the reason is that she is health issues which she wants to sort out which can only be done if she takes this break. While talking on her show tomorrow she said that her back spasms were getting worse and it was getting difficult for her to sit and move around in the show. She said,

“Till November it was manageable but now it is very difficult for me to sit on the show even. I want to get this back problem solved without a surgery. It will take me 2 to 3 months to recover then I will be back.”

nadia khan2

Nadia Khan didn’t say that she will be back on the show after that but said the fans will see her. Her guest Ruby Shakeel asked her how it felt like to be back after such a long time, to which she replied,

“I really enjoyed connecting to my fans. Let’s not talk about Morning Shows. When I was doing the show from Dubai, the content was up to the mark, it was grand and it was fun but things here are not the same. I didn’t expect it to be the same! But I enjoyed my time with my fans. When I started the show I was not in a habit of talking too much.”

nadia khan3

Nadia Khan also talked about her general nature which made her enjoy hosting,

“It is my nature, I need a change after some time. I need a visual change, a change in my work so I enjoyed that change when I came back to hosting. Also, there was no pressure on me from the channel. I ran my show the way I wanted it. It was tension free experience which I enjoyed a lot.”

We wish Nadia Khan all the best for the future.

Tum Kon Piya – Episode 6

Muzzafar Hassan’s plan worked like a charm only because he knows Waqar Ali too well. Yet again the developments in tonight’s episode were quite predictable with the exception of Zarbab’s track. I am glad there won’t be a two nikkahs scenario in this drama. For the first time since this drama has gone on air some of the scenes in tonight’s episode seemed forced. So far every single scene fits right into place but this time around there were a few conversations which were just used to kill time. Elma’s sisters day dreaming about their sister getting married in a rich house and sharing every detail as if it was too good to be true was the most disappointing filler scene of this episode. It made it look like they were fascinated by Ramish’s wealth and not his personality. I find it funny the way all these sisters stand in a line to say hello or goodbye to guests. They stand according to their heights in a way that all of them can be seen properly:) This goes to show that Yasir Nawaz made sure that every scene was picture perfect but sometimes too much perfection seems unreal. I actually found this funny because in the last episode too they were standing like this when Muzzafar Hassan came.

21

The dialogues in tonight’s episode yet again were very well thought out. The story is most certainly done-to-death but the dialogues are not ghisse pitte and Yasir Nawaz has directed the drama with dedication. Tonight for the first time it seemed like someone took advantage of Waqar Ali. Although whatever he did was completely in line with his character because he will never let his daughter get married to someone whose parents look down upon them but even then Waqar Ali shouldn’t have let Muzzafar Hassan ‘use’ him like this. It was good to see that Ramish figured out that his father had something to do with this sudden change in Waqar Ali’s decision. Elma trusts her father with making the right decision therefore she is willing to go along with anything he decides for her. Although Waqar Ali is clearly doing all this because he loves his daughter but even then it was sad to see someone like him sacrificing his daughter’s happiness in order to save his own dignity. Ramish’s mother tried her best to blame Waqar Ali and Elma but the trick did not work.

tkp1

Zarbab’s mother knew that once Zarbab saw Elma he will not object to this proposal. At the same time Sharafat begum wants to make sure that her son does not fall for Elma. She knows her son too well, she knows that he is quite capable of taking orders from anyone at all! Zarbab’s character is actually turning out to be an interesting one! He and Ramish are complete opposites. I am enjoying watching these two completely opposite characters in the same play. Zarbab’s mother has such a strong personality that he never really developed a personality of his own. Ramish on the other hand is intelligent and he has a strong personality. The scene in which Zarbab’s mother snatched the phone from him and says ‘ pata nahi yeh majnoo hamare khandan mei kahan se paida ho gaya’ was hilarious!! Sharafat Begum adds some much-needed light moments to this drama. Hina Bayat owns her role and I am looking forward to watching how Sharafat deals with Javeria and her mother.

tkp2

Ayeza Khan was the perfect choice for playing this role because of her looks in particular. Usually when we see people praising a girl like she is the most innocent looking girl alive, sometimes the actress playing the role does not fit the criteria or her character or portrayal is so annoying that her beauty is relegated to the background but in this case Ayeza Khan completely makes everything about Elma’s character believable. Qavi Khan has played his part brilliantly and gives the viewers a reason to fall in love with and feel for his character. Mehmood Akhtar also deserves due credit for doing complete justice to his role. Imran Abbas is always a perfect fit in these characters but since the last episode his dialogue delivery has not been up to the mark. Azra Muhiuddin is very convincing as the elitist aunty who has a very materialistic approach towards life. Ali Abbas deserves tons of praise for nailing his character – he has made his character very interesting.

With this episode Elma and Ramish’s love story came to an end. In the next episode Ramish will say goodbye to Elma in person. The preview of the next episode also suggested that he will make sure that his parents do not force him into getting married to Sunbal. This drama is full of clichés but Ramish’s character is definitely not one of them. The preview also showed Muzzafar asking Waqar to marry Elma sooner than planned.

How many of you watched this latest episode of Tum Kon Piya? Don’t forget to share your thoughts about it. If you missed it, watch it on http://www.dramasonline.com

Zara Yaad Kar – Episode 07!

Ohkay so, this episode of Zara Yaad Kar was definitely better than the previous episode & I am guessing this is going to be the pattern that this drama will follow where one episode will be average & the next one will be good. I must say that the only reason why I liked this episode was Mahnoor’s mother. I think her character is the saving grace of this entire drama because the main leads aren’t making much sense & are quite weak in my honest opinion.

So, Mahnoor has started lying to her mother just to buy her some time in order to spend it with Waqar. She went from ‘aap’ to ‘tum’ quite effortlessly & without even asking him about his feelings, she has started to doubt every single reason why she got married to Haadi & stayed in his Nikkah in the first place, thinking that after getting rid of Haadi, Waqar will be standing there with open arms to get married to her. Waqar got a bigger car & that was enough of a validation for Mahnoor to believe that he is her Mr. Right as he not only has a personality but he has a bigger car too.

Waqar said what Mahnoor wanted to hear & yes, very cleverly he convinced that Haadi wasn’t the right person for her. When Mahnoor went on & on & on about her ‘gham’, I was sitting there rolling my eyes so hard because I don’t see any gham in her life? She was happily married with a man who loved her to bits & still, that wasn’t enough. I want to know what does Mahnoor think, that by doing all this, is she putting herself in a good light in front of Waqar & what guarantee does she has that Waqar will not judge her or her character that while being already married to someone, she is not only lying to her mother but going on a date with him as well? Does Mahnoor really think that Waqar will not question her sense of loyalty that when she couldn’t be loyal to Haadi; her husband, she will remain loyal to Waqar?

Once again, I really thought that it was Haadi’s fault where he didn’t speak to Mahnoor directly. He can not avoid her & believe that things will get normal. He knows that Mahnoor needs some time but yes, he should give her the space but should reason with her as well because giving space to someone doesn’t mean that you ignore the problems that exist in between & think that everything will work in your favor.

Haadi got to spend some time with Uzma & Ikhtiyaar & that particular scene showed that all three of them can be like a happy family in the future. I must say the entire scene where Mahnoor came across Uzma & Haadi was quite forced & didn’t seem right because she spent a lot of time with Waqar & considering that Waqar has enough finances, him taking her to a road-side stall for gol gappas didn’t really make much sense. I guess he should’ve taken her to a proper restaurant because if we compare, then there’s no difference between Waqar & Haadi because they both can only afford gol gappas for Mahnoor, isn’t it? So, Mahnoor’s life is not going to change massively if she opts for Waqar as he is going to feed her gol gappas too.

I loved the way Mahnoor’s mother told her off. I thought that she should’ve gone to her neighbor’s house & inquire from the servant if Waqar had returned or not but then the way she sat there crying over how things were getting out of her hands made it clear that she didn’t have to go & confirm her fear as she already knew where her daughter was at this hour of the night & with whom especially. Mahnoor’s reaction was ridiculous. She really thinks that by laughing it off & brushing it off her shoulder & putting a blame on Haadi for everything will not make her look like a culprit & will put a lid on her disloyalty to her husband. She is being way too manipulative but she is living in a fool’s paradise to believe that her mother can’t see what she is up-to. I loved everything that Mahnoor’s mother said to her & made her realize that more than Haadi, she was the one who was at fault & in stead of putting his wrongdoings in the limelight, she should come clean about what’s in her heart & mind first.

Well, I’m still not feeling Uzma’s character at all. She is sweet & what not but the guilt pangs that she shows about jaiz najaiz are ridiculously contradicting. She is in love with Haadi; a married man & there she is worrying about what is jaiz & what is najaiz for her. Get your head together girl & stop being so controversial.

Anyways, this episode was decent & as always the only saving grace was Mahnoor’s mother & the things she said to her daughter. I guess her character has to be my favorite because she is the only one making sense in this entire drama & I believe that the writer heavily relied on her character to do some sensible talking because he himself knew that right from the beginning the main characters will stop making sense. Also, can anyone please help me with Mother’s Name because I want to speak about her using her actual name in stead of referring to her as Mahnoor’s mother all the time. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Zara Yaad Kar.

Cheers,

Mahira Khan Talks About The “Big Things” She Learned In India

0

Mahira Khan while talking to NDTV revealed how her experience of working in India had helped him with her dancing skills. She said,

“I have danced in the two films I have recently done, but I danced in Ho Mann Jahaan after I came back [from Bollywood] so you see a vast difference between the first film Bin Roye and Ho Mann Jahaan.

10

She also went on to say,

“[The song] ‘Shakar Wandaan Re’ became very popular, and you see a lot of difference [in my dancing]. I danced khul ke [with abandon], and the credit goes to the choreographers in India, my director, Shah Rukh. They kept telling me ‘Just do it, just forget who’s watching!’. We’re not [like that]. Apart from our theatre, drama acting is focused up here [gestures towards face], so we’ve mastered the art of the closeup. We give the right expressions, we cry well, we do confrontations well, but when it comes to body language… you are constricted and cinema is not that.”

11

She further added,

“Even my director Asim [Raza] would tell me, “Khul ke nacho [dance freely], remember that I’m not taking your closeup, the shot is this wide, and it’s your entire body.”

Mahira said that the credit for her dance moves today goes to the experience she had in India. She said,

“So, those were the little little things, or should I say, big, big things, that I learned on the job in India.”

We wish Mahira Khan all the best.

Mera Yaar Miladay – Episode 12

0

Yaaaaar, maza nahin aaya! We have been waiting for the past two episodes for that moment to come when Mushq and Fahd get separated and aside from the fact that I want them separated because I want the Mushq-Dabbu track to begin, I am also genuinely curious how Mushq and Fahd get separated in the first place!! I had thought it would happen in the previous episode and the preview for this week had suggested it would happen today but alas! Not fair!

So Mushq and Fahd are both locked up at the police station. Although Fahd tau seems to be strolling around as he pleases, sometimes outside to speak to the SHO, sometimes to make a phone call. Cat seems to have gotten Mushq’s tongue for she was quiet when the policeman was asking questions – had she shown some restraint when he asked her when she was headed then maybe just maybe she would not have drawn that much attention to herself. Was it really necessary to show the SHO stuffing his face that way though? Yes I get it, policemen are shown to be total nincompoops but must he be tearing into that tikka in such a vicious way – maybe that’s why Mushq was quiet then too having seen the fate of a fellow murghi haha!

PIC 1
Mehru. Ah, must we talk about Mehru ji? Okay, let’s because it seems as if this may have been the last we see or hear of her, woo hoo! I do not understand why she disappeared? Was she okay with the nikkah because she thought Aslam was locked up and then realized how he may tell Dabbu the truth now that she is out? And the letter she wrote – how did it get to Dabbu? Did she confess the truth about Fahd? Because the letter seemed to be more of a ‘it’s not you, it’s me and you are too good for me so I must leave you’ rather than a confession of how she has wronged him? I did not see Dabbu read the letter so I am assuming he has made the Fahd connection because he sees Mehru was not loyal since she has run off the day of their marriage? Uff so many questions and conspiracy theories for such a baseless track! I do not really care for the answers – good riddance I say!

Nayaz and Zeba, Zeba and Nayaz – so much lurrrve, well good for them! I am actually glad they are happy. Both such goody two shoes it would have been pointless if they started having tantrums too and undue focus was on them. Master Sb seems to look actually relieved to be rid of Mushq.

PIC 2
So Dabbu now realizes he was wrong to have not believed Fahd and Striker tells him that he and ‘lover girl’ have eloped. That word, lover girl! Makes me laugh! I keep thinking Fahd may leave Mushq in the lurch but even when the SHO says to lock them up Fahd asks to be locked up but Mushq to be let go so I really do wonder if he will leave her to rot there? I have a feeling his mother may implore him to come or something. I have run out of ideas really. I did find his mother’s reaction strange though when Fahd’s friend finally tells her that Fahd had gone to Karachi to bring Mushq back. I had thought she was not aware keh Mushq naam ki koi larki hai but her reaction did not seem to imply that was confused or surprised nor did she ask who Mushq is. So, I suppose she knew about Mushq then and was she also not in favour of the rishta like Master Sb? So many questions, uff!

I really feel like skipping a few episodes now and then watching them together. I do not like how one episode quickens the pace and then a few follow that drag the story at a snail’s pace. You know that scene we saw in last week’s preview when Mushq says that Fahd could not possibly leave her? I have a feeling that is how next episode will end, leaving us guessing again what will happen next. Uggh!

Are you all disappointed in today’s episode and expected more to happen like I did? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Mann Mayal – Episode 14

There were quite a few developments in the story in tonight’s episode. Bia finally got married and moved to America – good riddance! Her conversation with Salahuddin yet again revolved around Mannu but it was good to see that she had finally realized that Mannu and Salahuddin were not meant to be – better late than never!! Jeena’s character was finally introduced in the drama. The scene that was shown in the preview of this episode last week in which Salahuddin calls Jameel and asks him about Jeena saying ‘pagal si lagti hai’ was missing from tonight’s episode.  Jeena appeared to be ‘normal’ enough in tonight’s episode. She really likes her boss and does whatever she can to get his attention. Her character is typical but not yet annoying. Jeena came out of nowhere and gradually she got really close to Salahuddin, a little bit of background would have made this whole scenario better. That call to Jameel (which was not shown) shouldn’t have been edited from the drama since we all wondered why Salahuddin said she appeared to be ‘pagal’. Was it the way she looked at him? Or the fact that she stayed back till after midnight without even asking him if she was needed? When exactly did Jeena fall for her boss? A lot of questions that were left unanswered. Salahuddin’s parents have gone to stay with Bia therefore I am wondering if at some point Jeena will move in with him.

All this time Salahuddin has been keeping an eye on Mikael and has all the information about what is going on in Mannu’s life. He obviously regrets his decision and wants to do whatever he can to help Mannu. I must say that Jameel was the right person for this job since he has the brains to do this and much more. The way Jameel made his way into Mannu’s house was an interesting development. I enjoyed his scenes more than any other character in tonight’s episode. He has turned into a loyal friend who does not question Salahuddin much before doing something from him.

mm1

Mikael’s attitude towards Mannu did not change and she kept on covering up for him. Mikael wants Mannu and the kids gone, he is out gambling all night and what Mannu said to him suggested that he was using his father’s money. I felt for Mannu in tonight’s episode, she is a lost soul and it seems like it is too late for her! She has ruined her life and there is very little hope for her now. She is the ultimate bechari now, who will stay with her husband no matter what. Maya Ali is the only reason why Mannu’s character still manages to evoke some sympathies otherwise the scenes and incidents between Mikael and Mannu are repetitive. Although Mikael shoved Mannu around but I am glad that all we have seen in this drama so far is all the mental torture Mikael puts Mannu through and he has never been shown hitting her. It goes to show that you can show a worst case scenario without showing the man hitting his wife.

The way Salahuddin helped Mannu was somewhat unbelievable. Doctors do not share information about their patients with people who are not directly related to them but somehow Mannu’s doctor was very comfortable sharing all these details with him. Did he ‘buy’ the doctor too with all the money he has now? Also, Mikael’s mother just guessed that her son had paid the bill even though he seems to be least interested in Mannu or the kids and did not even come to the hospital. It would have been better if this part about Salahuddin paying the bill was not added to this latest development because Mannu does not need  Salahuddin’s financial help. It also make it look like now that Salahuddin has a lot of money, he is finding ways to spend it on Mannu although she does not want his money.

The preview of the next episode showed Jameel talking to Mannu about Salahuddin without mentioning his name and Mannu asked him for his ‘guru’s’ number. This episode was better than the previous few because things moved forward a little. Other than that things get more complicated with every episode and honestly speaking this drama doesn’t really give you much to look forward to.

Tere Mere Beech – Episode 22!

Ohkay so, I most certainly can not believe that this drama has become a complete waste of time for me & I am sure for those as well who’re watching it. This episode was slow, had such limited but unnecessarily stretched scenes & the conversations were so drag that it showed that they have no content left to cover the rest of the episodes, that is why they are stretching the scenes to fill the span of 40 minutes required to make an episode.

The way Hareem told Fahad off in the previous episode made me believe that she was over him & she was ready to give up on him because she understood that she doesn’t deserve a con man like Fahad but this episode left me in shock when it was made evident that Hareem is still hopelessly in love with him & has it in her heart that if Fahad will return to her, she will take him back with open arms. I really thought that Shehla’s company will not only change her personality but will make her familiar with the sense of differentiating between the right & wrong, & just because of Shehla’s counselling, Hareem will understand that she is better off without Fahad, but nope, looks like even Shehla couldn’t instill the self-respect & dignity in her because she is still ready to forgive & forget everything that Fahad has done & start afresh!

I really thought that being an educated, groomed & modern girl, Tania will have some sanity too but nope, even she is head over heels in love with Fahad & doesn’t mind the fact that he is already married. I really thought that Tania will be really close to her father & when she will hear it from him, she will call her relationship with Fahad quits but nothing of that sort happened & sadly, the writer being a woman herself (like all the other writers) made it clear that no matter how illiterate or educated a girl is, no matter if she belongs to a village or a city, the moment she will come across a sweet-talker, she will get blindfolded in his love & then she will stop making sense. Ohkay, we know Hareem’s situation, she was a loner who never got the love she wanted, that is why it was understandable that she fell for a guy like Fahad because he gave her the love & attention she longed for all her life, but what makes Tania so desperate that she is ready to settle for a married guy who is already quite fishy & has been lying to her? I really really am sick of seeing these so-called writers who tend to show that guys no matter how idiotic they must be, will always have an upper-hand on the girls because our girls are sooooo desperate that their only motive in life is to get married before they die!

I really thought that Hareem & Tania’s conversation will be conclusive & Hareem will put forth all the facts that will convince Tania that Fahad isn’t an honest man but Hareem didn’t utter a single word & it looked like she was trying to protect Fahad’s image & didn’t want to say anything that will make Fahad look bad in front of Tania. For Hareem the fact that Fahad was married to her was enough to believe that Tania will leave Fahad for her & when that didn’t happen, she was crying buckets over losing Fahad ‘again’!!!

Tania decided to forsake everything for Fahad just because her father didn’t approve of their marriage. I still am feeling disgusted that the writer had the audacity to show that an empowered & independent woman got easily fooled by a guy even after she met his first wife. I most certainly don’t understand the idea of a ‘strong women’ our writers have. They showed that Tania was a strong-headed girl till Fahad came by & woop, there goes her strong-headedness out of the window.

I am thoroughly disappointed with the way the writer has written the ending of this drama. I am sure she won’t show that both Hareem & Tania pushed Fahad into jail because of his wrong-doings, in fact she will show that it was Fahad himself who lost his senses & got imprisoned. I really wanted to see two level-headed girls, coming to a conclusion together & making sure that the guy who fooled them got punished but nope, like all the other female writers, the writer of Tere Mere Beech was babysitting Fahad too & that is why, both the girls till date were circling around him in a hope that one of them will win him!!! Please share your thoughts about this episode of Tere Mere Beech!!!

Celebrities Who Looked The Worst At HUM Awards

HUM Awards function was attended by celebrities who belong to the drama, fashion, music and film industry. Whenever there is an award function celebrities try to look their best. Although it should be easy for our celebrities to get their hands on the most fashionable outfits because there are so many talented designers in Pakistan but even then some of these stars usually don’t look good because sometimes they go overboard and at other times they experiment with their looks and dresses in such a way that it does not look good on them. It isn’t just about the dresses but the entire look which a celebrity carries on such occasions so the make-up and hairstyle add to the whole look too.

Here is the list of the worst dressed celebrities at HUM Awards. The reasons why their looks were such  a disaster are mentioned under their respective names.

Gohar Rasheed

This guy tops the list because he did not only turn up on these awards looking like someone out of an Aladdin film but he also wore a similar outfit on the AFA 2016. Our advice to Gohar Rasheed is that he should stop listening to whoever is giving him fashion advice and fire his designer while he is at it!!!!!!!!!

Hayeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, Ashraf ai ki kitta tu nay?! We all kept thinking something huge had to happen to jolt Ashraf out of his madness and well, here it is! One reader had commented on an earlier review that Hammad might die and Ifrah would think Ashraf was responsible so I would not be very honest if I said I did not expect something bad to happen to Hammad but I was really shocked that it did happen and the way it happened!
For all of Ashraf’s ‘Hammad would steal everything that belonged to Ashraf or Ashraf had a right to’ we learn from their last conversation that Hammad would go to his older brother after everyone had gone to bed to offer him whatever they had fought over. I did snort though when Ashraf says yeah well you have come empty handed this time and I thought what the hell? Was he supposed to bring a heavily pregnant Ifrah and dump her on Ashraf as a peace offering?! Anyways, Hammad truly believed his brother was not evil and wished he would give himself a chance and show how good a human he could be. I also got the feeling that he craved for Ashraf to make peace not just for the sake of the atmosphere of the house but because he really loved Ashraf, despite all the hatred Ashraf seemed to show to Hammad.

When he tells Ashraf he will go away and take his wife with him and never show face again I thought maybe something would happen to Hammad when he leaves for training. No way did I expect him to fall off the roof!! Literally!! True, Ashraf did not push him with the intent to push him down and kill him but as far as facts go, Ashraf DID push him and that push DID send Hammad down to his death so jitna bhi we say Ashraf did not mean to – he still was responsible. It does not help matters that Ifrah saw him when she looked up and their father witnessed the push.

PIC 1

I was quite interested in Ashraf’s reaction. When Saira had ‘committed suicide’ and lay in the hospital fighting for her life he was still Ashraf – angry and feeling no remorse or worry that his sister may die. That was when I thought that he really does hate his family and is beyond feeling any love for them. But his shock, the tears, the expressions show he is shaken by Hammad’s death and probably more so because he is being held responsible for it.

I have to admit, I shed a few tears in that episode. I never thought I would say this but Maha Warsi really made me feel for her character. A young widow, expectant mother and when she says to Ashraf ‘meray bachay ko yateem kar diya’ I thought, haye, the kid who is not even born yet – and already without a father! The whole scene of her hugging that teddy however was pointless and I do not know why it was such a long scene. True, teddy was important because it was part of their last conversation but it did not make much of an impact – the scene between teddy and Ifrah, not poor teddy itself! Saboor Ali’s wailing was cringeworthy and when she yelled ‘Allah Allah’ I literally winced. That hoarse shouting did not work for me at all – I just wish Sufiyan ki kahin transfer ho jaye and he takes Saira kahin boht duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuur!

Noman Ijaz was flawless as the older brother grieving for his baby brother – but not being to do so openly. I liked how the father does not turn against Ashraf yet. It is only natural that having lost one son he was not going to say to all that Ashraf was responsible and should be hanged. Likewise when the sisters are mourning Hammad and Rabab says we have lost one brother and she did not want to lose the other, I could understand how the feelings of the family are divided. On the one hand, they knew Ashraf hated Hammad, heck Ashraf did not waste a single chance to express his hatred so it was so easy to believe that the fatal push was intentional. However, on the other hand, Ashraf is family, and I could also understand how they did not want him to hang especially as it is not as if Ashraf is doing a celebratory war dance over Hammad’s death and seems to be totally devastated himself.

PIC 2

Revenge is sweet, maybe bitter sweet, but here revenge took matters into its own hands and dealt a blow so intense I do not see how Ashraf will ever be able to redeem himself in front of his family or ever escape the burden of what his actions resulted in. He may repent, grieve, beg Ifrah’s forgiveness but I do not see how he will ever be able to shake off the image or the guilt of being his brother’s murderer, even if all of them ever forgave him.

However, Ifrah has channelled her grief towards her own revenge. She is seeing red now and will not rest till she has justice – and Ashraf hangs. Ashraf is locked up in prison, facing his own demons. I wonder if from now on the drama will focus on Ifrah’s revenge (aakhir woh nikli auraton ki Ashraf – first he was bent on revenge, now her) which will finally lead to Ashraf being sentenced to death. Or will he be released from prison soon and then turn over a new leaf?

How many of you watched these episodes and shed a few tears like I did? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Udaari – Episode 3

This episode belonged to Sheedan – Bushra Ansari completely. Bushra Ansari has proven yet again that she is one of the most gifted actresses in our drama industry. Sheedan is a strong woman who believes in standing by people she loves. One thing that stood out more than anything else in tonight’s episode was Sheedan’s love and concern for Sajida. Unlike Durdana, Sheedan does not judge Sajida. She wants her to be settled and happy because she feels that Sajida is entitled to her share of happiness even though she is a widow. The relationship between all these characters is very heart-warming. This episode was definitely educational since I had no idea that there was such a custom in some villages; the women gathered clean water for the groom to be so that he could bathe with it before he came to pick the bride. What a simple yet touching gesture. Since I am talking about water I would like to share something else with the readers which doesn’t have anything to do with this episode but which is definitely related to this drama. The people of the village in which this drama was shot had no access to clean water and had to walk for miles to get water for daily use. The team of this drama solved this problem so that they didn’t have to walk for miles to get water. What a great initiative! I am glad that the presence of these stars made a real difference in the life of the people living in that village.

This episode mainly revolved around Sajida’s marriage. There was a lot of singing and bonding between the characters involved. Sajida could never have gone ahead with this marriage if it wasn’t for Sheedan’s support. It was also good to see Meeran supporting her mother for a change. Imtiaz was more than willing to marry Sajida whenever she wanted. The wedding was covered with detail, although there were too many songs in tonight’s episode but they went well with the situation that was being shown. The wedding festivities were interrupted by the news of Sheedan’s husband’s death which means this is the start of a different life for Sheedan too.

udaari1

Imtiaz has been shown as a very loving and resourceful person. Sajida also opened up with him in tonight’s episode and for now everything between them is perfect. Although Imtiaz did not want to stay in Sajida’s house but she insisted that he should open his shop in the house too, save some money and then build a house for them. The preview of the next episode however showed that he will start showing his true colors in the upcoming episode. I hope this particular aspect of the story is covered sensitively. Ahsan Khan is definitely standing out in this role, his confidence and effortless acting made his scenes a treat to watch.

The viewers also got to see what was going on in the life of the characters in the city. Farwa’s mother put her foot done in tonight’s episode and her father refused to help her too. Farwa’s mother thinks that people who sing are ‘bhand aur mirasi’ therefore she forbids her daughter from leaving the house. Farwa however manages to sneak out and record the song. This track wasn’t given a lot of screen time which was actually good. We know what is happening in these characters’ life but weren’t shown the scenes in detail. It was also good to see that the focus today remained on Sajida and Imtiaz. The preview of the next episode also suggested that Imtiaz will find out about Meeran’s love interest. Although I did not like Urwa Hocane’s acting in the first episode but she seems to be completely into her character now.

udaari2

So far Udaari is a different and interesting play. There are several tracks in the story and the director has covered the village life in particular brilliantly. It is good to see a drama in a different setting with some of the actors playing roles which they have never played before.

How many of you watched this latest installment? Don’t forget to share your thoughts about it. If you missed it, watch it on http://www.dramasonline.com

Mor Mahal – Episode 01!

0

Ohkay so, the production of Babar Javed, conceptualization of Imran Aslam, writing of Sarmed Sehbai & the direction of Surmed Sultan Khoosat, the most anticipated drama Mor Mahal made it to our screens tonight & I must say, it was enough of a prelude to let us know that we all are in for a great ride. The very first episode did introduce the situation of all the characters appropriately but I am sure that there’s more to all the characters & it will be revealed as the drama will progress. Right know, we got introduced to the main characters & I already can’t wait to find out more about them.

The story is about the ruler Nawab Asif Jahan (Umair Jaswal) who returns victorious to his residence Mor Mahal after accomplishing a mission in glory of his empire. On his return he is made to deal with his personal life situation where his mother Badshah Begum (Hina Bayat) orders him to meet his new wife Meher Bano (Sonia Nazir) & give her a status of his lawfully wedded wife. Asif Jahan feels a little hesitant as this happens to be a political marriage that took place in order to maintain the harmony between the two empires. Meher Bano’s brother gets her married to Asif Jahan for personal gains & Meher Bano finds it hard to accept that she was treated as a commodity for a barter bargain. The reason why Meher Bano hasn’t accepted her marriage to Asif Jahan is related to her past that she hasn’t been able to overcome till date. Meher Bano is still in love with someone (Zahid Ahmed) & she is unable to forget him.

Collage 01

Asif Jahan’s second wife wife Wazir Begum (Misha Shafi) awaits his arrival & is left disappointed after finding out that her husband Asif Jahan is going to follow the orders of his mother where he won’t be meeting her for now. Wazir Begum obviously has more loyal servants who actually feel for her & give her the hope & the validation she needs to keep her nerves calm. Wazir Begum still feels that nothing can distract Asif Jahan from thinking about her & their relationship is so strong that even his mother can not bring anyone between them but she is left in a great shock when she gets the answer given by Asif Jahan himself that his priority for now was meeting his new wife, Meher Bano & Wazir Begum will have to wait for him even though he was still in Mor Mahal.

The love Meher Bano has for her beloved is so strong that it pushes her to take extreme measures where without even thinking for a second, she forces her servant to cover up for her as she’d prefer dying than becoming a wife of someone she doesn’t love. Meher Bano leaves the palace & it still remains a mystery as to what happened to her but I am sure she must’ve fled from Mor Mahal successfully. Asif Jahan happens to come across Meher Bano’s Kaneez & just because he hasn’t met her before, he believes that she is his wife. Just a glimpse of her was enough for Asif Jahan to decide that he wanted to raise her status & give her the due rights of being his wife & sadly, the Kaneez had to follow the orders of Meher Bano as she is duty-bound to her.

Collage 02

Wazir Begum definitely didn’t take that news too well. She chose to poison herself in a hope that either she will be able to deal with the pain that Asif Jahan’s answer caused to her or she will be able to grab his attention & stop him from going to someone else. Wazir Begum definitely is not going to let it slide so easily & she will make sure that Badshah Begum gets the message loud & clear that she won’t let the political matters ruin what’s so special to her.

There were two more characters that got introduced in this episode & were of Surraya & Akhtari. Surraya (Fiza Ali) happens to be the first wife of Asif Jahan & she is also expecting their first child. She is lonely & miserable but the only thing that elevates her level from the rest of Asif Jahan’s wives is the fact that she is carrying his child. Surraya has lost hope that Asif Jahan will now come & spend time with her because she knows that Meher Bano & Wazir Begum will still be having more charm than her. She believes that depending on amulets will bring him closer to her husband. It looks like there’s a battle happening between the first two wives in a hope that at least one of them will be winning Asif Jahan in the end. The other character that got a little coverage was of Akhtari (Sania Saeed), I believe she happens to be someone who is quite close to Badshah Begum & looks like Badshah Begum doesn’t do anything without her consent & advice. I feel Akhtari will play an important role in changing the situations of all the characters in the future.

The very first episode of Mor Mahal was picture perfect & grand in literal sense of the word. I must say, the cinematography, the direction, the acting, the sets, the costumes, the overall styling of all the characters & most importantly the dialogues were phenomenal. It is a period/historic drama & they succeeded in taking us back to the Mughal Era that they were aiming for. I felt that watching the episode once wasn’t enough because there were so many details that I feel I couldn’t pay attention to & would love to see in great detail. Every frame was picturesque & I must say the characters picked up the attitude required to play such substantial characters. Umair Jaswal actually stood out the most because being a focal character he had a lot of responsibility on his shoulders to look like an actual ruler & everything about him starting from his his dialogue delivery to his body language to his composure made it seem that the casting directors made the right choice by assigning the character of Asif Jahan to him. Even though Ali Saleem & Jana Malik (Shahista) had a very limited screen-time but they both used it aptly & left a great impression as well. Misha Shafi looks beautiful & Hina Bayat picked up the demeanor of the mother of the current ruler perfectly too. Surmed Sultan Khoosat’s direction & the attention to detail is what made this episode such a visual treat & the hard work that went in to bring this project to us was evident throughout this episode. I am thoroughly thoroughly impressed & can’t wait to see more. Please share your thoughts about the very first & phenomenal episode of Mor Mahal.

Celebrities At The 4th HUM Awards

The 4th HUM Awards are being held in Karachi right now. The red carpet at the event is dazzling with stars who always try to look unique in the outfits they choose to wear. Some faces like that of Reema which are not usually seen in award shows are also seen in this show.

Here are some exclusive pictures from the red carpet of the 4th HUM Awards:

Dil Lagi – Episode 7

It did not take Anmol long to make Mohid miserable! Mohid however remained patient and knew that the only way to win Anmol’s heart was to give in completely! This episode opened with Mohid’s mother trying to cover up for her bahu’s latest adventure. Later on while Mohid’s mother gave Anmol a lecture on sharm o haya, the news of Sabiha’s disappearance came as a rude shock. Anmol obviously has no attachment with anyone in that house and she is there to make these people miserable therefore whatever she did tonight was in line with her character but it was sad to see a strong woman like Anmol who till now had used her strength for all the right purposes waste her time doing something that will not help anyone in any way.

Anmol was a working woman who was a pillar of strength for her family in every way possible but now she is just another sazishi aurat who is trying to bring people down to get back at them. Yes! Mohid made her life hell but Anmol is not doing herself a favor by wasting her talent and investing all her energy into making someone regret what they did to her. Anmol despised Mohid because he was a ghunda, which went to show that she did not have a high opinion of people who used unlawful means to get what they wanted. All of Anmol’s principles went out of the window the second she took this decision. Anmol is no longer the woman who knew the difference between right and wrong. Although she disputed the notion that everything was fair in love and war in one of the previous episodes but in this episode she proved that indeed everything was fair in love and war!!! This is Anmol’s war, she got married to someone only to make him suffer – is that really fair? Everything Anmol did tonight and even in the previous episode went to show that Mohid and Anmol really are not that different. They are both equally stubborn and they will do anything to achieve their objectives. Anmol blamed Mohid for pushing her to the point where she was left with no other choice. Right now she is seen justifying her actions because she thinks Mohid was responsible for that accident, I am wondering how she will feel when she finds out that Mohid had nothing to do with Fareed’s accident.

dl1

Fazal and Sabiha’s track got a lot of screen time in tonight’s episode and the viewers found out why Sabiha’s mother did not let her go back to her husband. We don’t know yet what exactly happened with Fazal after he was threatened of dire consequences but it was definitely something so terrifying that even today he is not willing to take his wife back. Sabiha does not blame Fazal for not taking a stand for her but she only blames her mother. The actor playing Fazal had wooden expressions and his dialogue delivery wasn’t very impressive either. Mohid did not have to try very hard to take Sabiha back home. Mohid’s conversation with his sister in the car went to show that he was only following orders and didn’t really want to do all this.

Dastagir’s scenes and his presence like always proved to be a good distraction from all the anger and hurt which seems to have taken over everyone’s life ever since Anmol decided to take this bold step. Imran Ashraf has been very impressive in this role right from the first episode. It is very difficult to make people laugh and it is even more difficult to make the viewers fall in love with a character like the one he is playing but he does it effortlessly.

dl2

Mehwish Hayat’s performance and her make-up was faultless in tonight’s episode. There wasn’t anything appealing about the fact that Anmol kept on judging Mohid and his mother while what she was doing wasn’t very right either but Mehwish Hayat nailed every single scene in tonight’s episode. Hamayun Saeed was very convincing as someone who had admitted his defeat without any reservations and was willing to surrender everything for the person he loved. Uzma Hassan is a very talented actresses but her character isn’t very interesting so far. I am however waiting to see how Sabiha’s mother ‘welcomes’ her when she goes back home.

The preview of the next episode showed that Anmol has met her match – Mohid’s mother made sure put Mehndi on her hands even if she was not willing to change her dress! It also showed that Anmol will meet Fareed in the next episode – will this meeting clear the ‘misunderstanding’ due to which Anmol got married to Mohid? Mohid’s miserable condition however suggested that things will not get better between these two even in the next episode.

Aabro – Episode 19!

Ohkay so, this episode of Aabro was good but kind of slow as well. I really think that in stead of showing one phase of Afsheen’s life at a time, they should show a bigger picture & wrap the drama up. I don’t know why I feel that HUM TV has really made the ratings their focal point due to which they end up dragging the dramas that tend to get more TRP’s. I feel that in stead of focusing on their profits, they should take care of what the viewers want. Lately I have been feeling that the dramas of HUM TV have lost their charm & it’s a sad state of affairs considering they were the ones who revived the drama industry when the entire Pakistan was addicted to Star Plus!

So, Afsheen got to know that her parents can not afford the tuition of a medical college therefore she had to accept the fate & decided to go with what her parents will choose for her. Ali & Aabro did try as much as they could by asking for Abid’s help once again but then again, even though I feel for them, this time I felt that they were going a bit too far by not planning things properly yet again. Yes, they do not make enough money but when they knew that Afsheen was approaching the end of her F.Sc, why didn’t they start saving a few bucks in order to have a decent amount required for the admission fee? Also, Afsheen scored 2nd highest marks so I guess they could’ve tried their luck for a scholarship just like Ahmed suggested? Its like they just had a dream but didn’t have enough wisdom to pull it through & achieve it. Once again Ali & Aabro lacked some planning & sadly Afsheen had to give up on her dream of becoming a doctor.

Ahmed believes in supporting Afsheen because he knows that she is a bright student & has worked so hard to get such good grades but sadly, it all went down the drain because of her parents & even because of his parents too as this time around, Abid held back & didn’t want to help them as he has Ahmed’s tuition fee to take care of as well. Just like Fauzia, Abid believes in face saving too because despite knowing that his son isn’t so good at academics, he is pushing his luck by getting him an admission in a medical college on self-finance. I must say, I like the way Ahmed takes stand for Afsheen, not because he likes her, also because he can see that his whole family mistreats Ali’s family & he feels bad for them.

Oh well, I must say I am disappointed at Zafar uncle’s selfishness, as he left the world peacefully but I am wondering why doesn’t he miss Zubaida so much to call her to the place where he resides too because that’s the only place suitable for Zubaida as well. I really feel that they are now pushing the hatred she has towards Ali, Aabro & sadly Afsheen is facing the brunt of it too. It just doesn’t make sense that Zubaida can not see the difference between Ahmed, Aima & Afsheen’s upbringing & personalities & she doesn’t leave an opportunity to insult them all by making a point that Afsheen will only bring bad name to their entire family. I think bas abb bohat ho gaya, like seriously, it used to be amusing watching her cursing Aabro & Ali but not anymore because enough time has passed already so they should have shown ‘someeee’ difference in her attitude towards them by seeing how nicely Aabro & Ali brought Afsheen up. Also, I do feel that they could’ve confined her hatred towards Ali & Aabro & should’ve shown that if she didn’t appreciate Afsheen, then she didn’t insult her needlessly too.

It was good to see Afsheen taking a stand for her mother & telling Zubaida off. Also, it was good to see that Ali told Zubaida clearly that he won’t let her have her way in the matters concerning Afsheen’s life & future because if she can’t love or respect them, she can not dictate them too. I think Aima & Ahmed have disappointed Zubaida enough for her to do some thinking that her perfect bahu Fauzia’s childern didn’t turn out to be so perfect after all so its not a hard & fast rule that Aabro’s daughter will only turn out to be like Aabro as well.

Anyways, this episode was decent but the progress in the story overall is a bit too slow for my liking, also the preview of the next episode once again suggested that things are going to remain slow as they will be focusing on the developing relation between Ahmed & Afsheen. I am sure things will get ugly once Ahmed will openly declare that he likes Afsheen more than just a friend. I must say I really really like both the actors who’re playing the characters of Ahmed & Afsheen. It is good to see some fresh new faces. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Aabro.

Ohkay so, this episode of Sehra Main Safar was good because it showed how Iqra was getting back to normal & was picking up the pieces. The best bit about this whole phase that Iqra was going through was the support of her parents because without their support, she would’ve never been able to overcome this rough patch of her life.

I spoke about it before & I will speak about it again that I most certainly don’t understand the sudden realization Annie had. She knew all along that Shehryaar was married & was cheating on his wife with Annie, so when she was perfectly alright with the fact that she was dating a married man, why did she start having guilt pangs & all of a sudden felt the need to retract herself from this path? After shedding a few tears, she was perfectly fine with Sherhyaar being married so that’s why hearing her say that she felt cheated upon & felt deceived didn’t really make sense at all.

Ayaaz helped Iqra get back to normal because he knew that she was a victim & not the culprit in this relationship. It was good to see that Ayaaz felt for Iqra & understood her pain. Without an ulterior motive, he just wanted to lend a shoulder to cry on & it was good that Iqra without being skeptical or analytical decided to rely on him emotionally because Ayaaz proved it once again that he was there for her like a friend in need. Throughout the episode, I really liked how Iqra’s parents supported her & thanked her enough for all that she had done for them before getting married. Indeed, it was only because of Iqra’s financial support that her father could get back on his feet, start afresh & be in this position where now he could support her.

I really think Shehyaar as a dose of negativity was enough that now the introduction of Ayaaz’s Bhabhi; Nuzhat as a villain seems unnecessary & looks like a poor attempt of keeping the viewer’s interest alive in the show by relying on the typical mirch masala. All Ayaaz did was take a decision of not getting married to Nuzhat’s sister, so it doesn’t really seem necessary to be showing her spewing venom against him time & again. Seems like Ayaaz’s mother isn’t too happy with Nuzhat too & for obvious reasons because she has done everything to disappoint her mother in law by forcing Taimur to ignore Ayaaz & not making him his business partner. I really think the addition of Taimur & Nuzhat is a waste of screen-space in this drama because their track is boring, has nothing to offer & is typical where Nuzhat is your typical Bahu & now Jethani & Taimur is only getting paid to smile & nod at his biwi’s betukki suggestions like an obedient servant. I so wish they had ended the drama next week but the preview has left me in doubts where Nuzhat is all over the place & Taimur is not giving her a much needed shut up call!

I must say the scene between Iqra & Shehryaar’s father was very sweet. Iqra knew that she won’t be needing these things again & if she had got them back, they would’ve only reminded her those painful memories from her failed marriage, that is why she decided to help Shehryaar’s sister as she knew that his family was innocent & they were struggling too because Shehryaar was selfish as he only cared about maintaining his lifestyle & not much about fulfilling his responsibilities as a son & a brother.

I also must say that the conversation Iqra & Shazia had was really nice too because it showed that they both were the victim of circumstances & now when they were past that stage, they overcame their insecurities & bitterness & understood that their family never turned against them. It showed that they both learnt it the hard way but in the end they did realize that at certain point, they were wrong & they turned bitter whereas their family only loved them like they did before. Also, Ayaaz has finally told his mother what he wants & that is Iqra once again. It was good to see him showing full support to Iqra & not letting his mother state the otherwise because he knows that Iqra wasn’t at fault & it was Shehryaar who couldn’t value her presence in his life.

Overall, this episode was good because it showed some progress. The preview of the next episode left me disgusted because of the negativity that Nuzhat spread. I so hope that they end the drama next week & don’t prolong it to show how jealous Nuzhat is of Iqra. They can use the next & final episode for that & end it on a good note because this drama is past the stage where the chewing gum loses its elasticity. Please share your thoughts about this episode of Sehra Main Safar.

Keep Supporting,
Cheers,
Zahra Mirza.

Tum Yaad Aye – Episode 12

‘Baitay aap pareshan na hon’, ‘baitay aap araam karein’ – ‘baitay’ needs a good chamaat in my opinion!! Okay, okay, if she did get slapped then I would go on about how our dramas should quit showing grown women getting slapped or physically abused but I am sure you get my point!
I had wondered if Ahmer was truly in love with Zainy and even though there were references to his flirtatious nature in Mina’s conversations, but the way he spoke to Zainy and the mehndi scene, his dismay when she said she had to leave made me think there really was something between them. Ahmer’s ego has been bruised by the way Yusuf Kamdar addressed him and he wants nothing to do with Zainy now.

Zainy also learns Ahmer has been planning to marry a colleague Bina (Aimen Khan) from his showbiz world. Bina’s outburst and fainting spell was so ridiculous I thought. I do not understand whether Zainy’s friend (Moomal Khalid) has a bigger role to play further along the play. She is a decent actress in her own right and right now her contribution to the whole drama seems very minimal. Maybe she will be paired with Sherry?

‘Mujhay Ahmer kay baghair jeena nahin aata’ – what? And how has she managed all these years? And really – how long has she known Ahmer anyway? Zainy appears to me to be a brat and a half, treading on the feelings of the people who have always cared for her and running after the one person that is giving her an attitude. Growing up she has only had Yusuf Kamdar, her mother and Sherry around her. Nigar does visit but not often so I do not understand this ‘nobody loves me’ mantra Zainy has going on all the time. I understand the desire to know the people who were related to her dead father, to know her roots but to doubt the sincerity and sentiments of Yusuf and Mehtaab is absurd.

Up until the previous episode, I blamed Zainy for her attitude. True, Yusuf has been overprotective and maybe Mehtaab has tried to make Zainy put a lid on her feelings at times for the ‘benefit of the family’ but they truly loved her. However, Mehtaab’s outburst in front of Yusuf also made me see them a bit more clearly. Yusuf has always wanted the best for Zainy, no doubt, but he has been a bit excessive in his own way. Making her focus just on her studies, all the hoo haa over her going to a friend’s birthday party in the earlier episodes and not needing a mobile phone or laptop in this day and age is a bit out of the ordinary. She has been so sheltered by him and Sherry that she does not know how to react to anything new. However, Mehtaab’s new stance is also at the other end of the spectrum. ‘Give Zainy whatever she wants be it Ahmer’ and blaming herself and her husband for Zainy’s state was uncalled for. Mehtaab is shaken by Zainy’s suicide attempt and where I understand her sudden reaction to give in to Zainy’s demand based on her fear that she could have lost Zainy forever, I do not understand this ‘self blame’ and how Zainy is suddenly a victim of inferiority all her life. Zainy is ungrateful, spoilt and immature but I feel that sometimes even though parents are doing their utter best to do right by their child, it may not be the best approach and that in turn has an effect on the ‘child’s nature as they grow up.

Anyhow, Kunwal Javid, PsyD, I am not. Just trying to give Zainy benefit of the doubt and make sense of Mehtaab’s new plan of action. Or maybe Zainy is just an ungrateful brat. Period.

PIC1

Ahmer seems unmoved by Zainy’s attempted suicide. His expression only changed when Mina reminded him of how he loved his deceased chacha and his ‘ehsaan’ on them and that Zainy is that very chacha’s daughter. Ahmer does go to visit her in the hospital and Zainy, silly silly Zainy, brightens up and thinks all is well. I wonder what game Ahmer is playing now.

I keep getting mixed signals from Phuppo and Co. Phuppo’s reaction at the hospital when Mehtaab asked if she knew anything surprised me. I wonder if it is because she fears that telling the truth would release Yusuf Kamdar’s wrath on them and he seems to be a much more influential person so she does not want any trouble. She did seem genuinely upset and when Mina confronted Ahmer she refers to Zainy as masoom. But then Mehtaab keeps saying how she did not want to remain in touch with her first husband’s family after her second marriage and that she has a sound reason for feeling that way – I am curious what that is.

Agha Ali is such a good actor in my opinion – I feel he does not have much of a role to play in these past few episodes and would like to see him contribute more to the story. I had forgotten to mention Sania Saeed’s ‘hairdo’ in my overview until Fatima Awan reminded me. Mickey mouse ears or a pirate’s hat – take your pick but it really does look odd and seemed even more so in the scene when she has that outburst with Yusuf and bends her head down and what a huge beehive!! She is such a brilliant actress but her appearance in dramas after the break she took is quite an eyesore – first in Aitraaz and now Tum Yaad Aye.

PIC2

Ahmer seems to at times be totally smitten and at times not caring a dime for Zainy and the sudden switches in his expressions leave me confused and I do not know if that is a good thing or not. Was he really just passing time with Zainy or did he genuinely feel for her but his pride could not take how Yusuf treated him and he is reacting to that?

I am looking forward to see what happens next. Will Ahmer keep up a farce and string Zainy along without her being any the wiser? Or, will he marry her and then make her life miserable by continuing to meet Bina? Please do share your thoughts on this episode of Tum Yaad Aye.

Kisay Chahoon – Episodes 23 & 24

0

I drew a sharp breath. My body tensed in anticipation. The voice in my head begged no, no, oh God, please no. I saw Hamza lying in the hospital bed and I felt sick. Oh because Hamza got shot? Heck, no! Because Mareena’s father said Hamza’s mum was on her way and I braced myself for her wailing!!

These two episodes finally got the ball rolling for what we had been waiting for. Mehru’s mother tells Ameer he should not put up with Mehru anymore and should divorce her. His ‘Mehru ji has a right to live her life’ is seriously annoying me now. Anyhow, my annoyance did not linger for long for the thoughts Hamza planted in Mehru’s mind in the previous episode began to bother her and she asks Ameer for a divorce. She feels she is doing him a favour by asking him to leave her for she does not love him and thinks he should not be suffering because of her and should move on with his life.

Ameer’s expression was so spot on when Mehru began her speech, not understanding why she had to wake him at this hour to tell him he has a ‘beautiful heart’. I was disappointed with his reaction though. I expected something, a plea, a question, a remark. He just went back to bed. Sorry, bed tau becharay Ameer kay naseeb mein nahin tha ever since he came to the city. So, I will rephrase – he went back to sleep on the floor again. Waisay before Mehru wakes him he did look so bechara lying on the floor sleeping with his mouth open. Ameer. Sigh!

Anyways, come morning and Ameer is nowhere to be found. I could relate to Mehru’s worry because she does not hate Ameer – she just feels she can not live with him and is actually being unfair to him by being with him. Whether Mehru is weak and easily swayed by Hamza for believing in that is another story. I almost gasped for a second time when Ameer says to his mother that these ‘baray shehr kay laug kay dil pathar kay hotay hain, pyar ko nahin samajhtay’ and thought whoa, did he say something negative about precious Mehru ji – finally?! But then his ‘miskeen’ everything in the name of Mehru ji’s happiness got my feathers ruffled again. This guy!

Meanwhile, Mareena’s insecurities and possessiveness are growing by leaps and bounds and she shoots Hamza. Haha! Okay, so she did not really intend to but that struggle ended with Hamza getting shot and landing in the hospital. We learn Mareena’s mother left her husband and daughter behind to be with another man. To make up for any insecurities, her father pampers her and gives her anything she lays her eyes on. However, Hamza has had enough and does not want to stay with Mareena again and leaves the house after agreeing to not divorce her and to continue working at his father in law’s office – am not sure what that deal was about then!

PIC

Back to Mehru and Ameer. I do not understand why Ameer sends a letter and divorce deed by courier. Why not just leave them at home when he left? Stick a note to the fridge or by her bedside table? It was interesting though to watch Mehru read the letter because what Ameer writes makes it appear as if the divorce is for the benefit of Mehru and not Ameer as Mehru would have liked to believe. I wonder if that is why she is reluctant to leave suddenly or because she does not want to go back to her father’s house. Surely when she asked for a divorce she knew she would need to leave then why the cold feet now? I liked though how her mother put her in her place and took charge.

I am not sure how Mareena will react to her father and Hamza both giving her the cold shoulder. Next week’s preview shows her father encouraging her to go bring Hamza back. Hamza’s mother seems to have had a change of heart after Hamza’s outburst and wants Mehru and Hamza to be together but Mehru seems to be singing a different tune when she tells Hamza she does not feel anything for him anymore. Bhayee, if it is not Hamza and not Ameer, then please announce it from the rooftops so we all know!

Ali Abbas and Soniya Hussain are definitely the stars of this drama. I felt nothing for Noor Hasan (or Hamza? – I can not decide who annoys me more!) . He looked pitiful and the ‘mazloom aurat’ in the scene when he speaks to his father in law and says ‘iss sub mera kia kasoor tha’!.Later, I could not believe how much he was jostling his own (wounded!) arm when he is yelling at his mother!

I am glad things have begun to move forward with the story. I wonder if Mehru signs the divorce paper. I just hope that Mehru’s indecisiveness is not dragged out now and they wrap up this drama. The end appears to be predictable which is fine for now, but will not be if the drama stretches.

How do you feel about the way the story is headed now and these episodes? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Mein Sitara – Episode 6

Mein Sitara is the only drama right now which truly gives you something thoroughly entertaining to look forward to. It had made Thursday nights special. This episode was totally worth the wait, it had to be one of my most favorite episodes of Mein Sitara so far. Saba Qamar finally got a chance to show her acting and dancing skills to the fullest in this episode since this particular installment was all about Surraya’s first big step and she was beyond brilliant in ever single scene. The viewers have been waiting to see Jharna and Surraya to bond in the same way in which they saw them bonding when Surraya was little and this episode showed all that and so much more.

Every scene of this episode was picture perfect. The first big step of Surraya’s journey was covered in detail. The episode opened with Jharna convincing Farhad Sethi to give her a few days to groom Surraya. Farhad is very talented but so far we have seen him judging people on the basis of their background until he witnesses these actresses/dancers prove that they really are talented. Even when Jharna suggested that he should cast Naseem in his film, his first reaction was very similar to this one. He instantly rejected the proposal because Naseem was too ‘bazari’ for the role. In this episode too his sole concern was Surraya’s background, he wasn’t even willing to give her a chance but Jharna being the strong woman that she is managed to convince him.

ms1

I absolutely love the way Jharna’s relationship with Farhad has been shown. She loves him dearly, she will never do anything that would harm his career in any way but she is also practical. We found out today another reason why Farhad cannot completely sideline her; the house, all of the financial assets and even the business is in Jharna’s name. Aisha Gul has already proved that she was the perfect choice for playing this role; she has made me fall in love with her character over and over again. The person incharge for make-up and styling also deserves due credit for completely transforming all the actors and Aisha Gul in particular. Her look coupled with the perfect body language and expressions have brought this beautifully written character to life on screen in a superb way, I think she deserves an award for making Jharna a memorable character. The chemistry that was missing between Aisha Gul and Saba Qamar in the past 2 episodes was definitely there in tonight’s episode. Their scenes reminded of the scenes which we saw in the beginning few installments. Saba Qamar’s expressions when Farhad Sethi shouts at her and the expressions on her face whenever she is with Jharna spoke louder than any words she had to utter in those scenes. Sitara’s journey is not off to a smooth start but we all know that she will do anything for her baji. Her love and passion for acting and dancing is sure to take her places. I am waiting for the time when Farhad Sethi will be truly impressed by her. I am also very curious to find out if she will stay this loyal to her baji once she is exposed to the world of film.

Farhad Sethi’s adviser/assistant Saleem is another interesting character who might not have a big role to play in the story but the actor playing the role has most certainly made this character stand out. Saleem always gives Farhad honest advice and although he works with Farhad but he has more respect for Jharna. Naseem on the other hand is a bad influence. Although she tried her best to make sure Farhad does not cast Surraya but she obviously does not have the edge which Jharna has. I have said it before and it needs to be said again it is refreshing to watch Mikaal Zulfiqar in this role. His portrayal as Farhad Sethi makes you forget every other (typical) character he has played so far with the exception of Mansoor in Durr-e-Shahwar. He sports a brand new look and is completely into his character.

ms3

I thought I will never say this but to be honest Meera has also nailed her character as Naseem Dil Ruba. She is confident and giving the kind of performance which is expected from her character. Not once has she gone overboard or given a weak performance. Hassan Ahmed is another actor who is giving a flawless performance. I am sure his character has a bigger role to play in the story. The credit for all these remarkable performances, the great on screen chemistry between all the actors and episodes which leave you spell-bound goes to the director as well. Seema Taher Khan has brought a very old era but a very new story to life on screen brilliantly only because of her creativity and hard work. Every scene of this episode in particular appeared to be a labour of love. Faiza Iftikhar’s script is not just different but very well though out. All the characters and all the events are easy to connect to. Mein Sitara always manages to transport me to another world and Thursday seems too far away. I cannot thanks the whole team of this play enough for putting so much effort into making this serial a complete package.

The preview of the next episode showed Naseem throwing tantrums and eventually wanting to get back at Farhad. Later on the scene between Jharna and Sitara suggested that Naseem probably knows something about Farhad which Jharna does not and that is how she is manipulating him.

Loved loved loved this episode, I cannot praise it enough! Anyone who is not watching this show is missing out on a masterpiece. My favorite dialogue from this episode was…. “pyar tu sirf aik baar hota hai na, us ke baad tu weham hota hai” – beautiful!!

How many of you watched this episode? Did you like it as much as I did? If you missed it do watch it on http://www.dramasonline.com

“The sole role model of Pakistani channels nowadays is money.” – Talat Hussain

0

Talat Hussain is a legend who is like a walking talking academy of arts. Talat Hussain started working as a gate keeper in a cinema house due to some financial restraints when he was in high school, later on he got an opportunity in radio Pakistan and that is where his career in acting started from. Talat Hussain has worked in some very famous Pakistani films and dramas. Nowadays he keeps himself busy in teaching aspiring actors the art of acting and giving lectures in different colleges.

He was invited as a guest in Nadia Khan’s Morning Show and in this show he shared his feelings about drama industry right now. He is very disappointed with the present state of affairs. He said,

“We have picked up some really bad things from India although they were the ones who always took inspiration from our dramas but somehow now our dramas are inspired from theirs. The whole atmosphere of the media has changed, it has become a commercial thing.”

talat hussain

He also said that in a small country like Pakistan there was no need to have 24 hours channels. He also said that there are so many channels, on top of it the people involved are copying ideas but want ratings too. He also said,

“The biggest duty of the media is to retain cultural identity. Truth should be shown the way it is, it should not be spiced up. Are our television programs following this rule? For PTV, BBC was the role model. Now there are no role models, the only role model is money.”
