In this era of entertainment when dramas are pouring in left right and centre, you can hardly find any that captures your attention for as long as it stays on air.

Well that seems to be changing very soon since there is a drama starting on Geo from Wednesday, 24th January that will looks quite different from the rest through its teasers.

It is called Umm e Haniya, with Neelum Munir and Daniyal Afzal in the lead roles. On seeing the teasers, I was transported to a Facebook video based on the real story of a Japanese girl who found an abandoned child and raised her like her own despite the taboo associated with unwed mothers. Imagine the havoc this would create in the social setup of Pakistan. That is what Umm e Haniya deals with.

A young ambitious girl called Romi played by Neelum Munir is the highlight of the play. She is full of dreams of playing cricket on a big level and wants to go to the training camp to train for championship before getting married.

Her family seems to honor her wish and she does her training and is returning happily when she accidentally finds a abandoned newborn packed in a bag and thrown in garbage about to be attacked by stray dogs.

When she turns up with that infant in her house where her future mother in law is also present, everyone thinks that child is hers because she had gone off to training for eight months. It leaves her thinking whether this kindness would cost her her own happiness forever.

After having seen Minal Khan and Shehroz Sabzwari together in Hassad, we were convinced of the duo’s chemistry as they did look good together on screen. And now it seems the wait is over as the two will soon be seen in ARY Digital’s upcoming drama ‘Nand.’

Nadia Jamil is coming back to television screens after a hiatus of two years with a bone chilling project, titled Damsa. Teasers of the drama have already started doing rounds on ARY Digital and from what we have seen so far, Damsa will be highlighting the menace of child trafficking that notoriously exists in our society and keeps growing.

Damsa has been written by Khaani famed writer Asma Nabeel who has always tackled social issues with her pen. From the plight of a transgender child to bonded labor and even acid attacks, Asma Nabeel has highlighted troubling issues with her stories and now with Damsa, she has taken a step further ahead, tapping into the dark realms of child trafficking and how it affects the parents and children who become victimized by a racket.

Damsa has been directed by Najaf Bilgrami, and produced by Wajahat Rauf under Showcase Productions.

The teasers show the trauma a mother goes through when her daughter is kidnapped right infront of her eyes. Damsa, stars child actor Emaan Khan alongside Nadia Jamil, Shahood Alvi and Saleem Mairaj who plays the leader of the child trafficking ring that kidnaps Damsa.

Animation is no more rare in Pakistan because there have been quite many projects based on animations. Haroon Rashid’s Burka Avenger, Sharmeen Obaid’s 3 Bahadur and now it’s Muhammad Asim’s Tick Tock.

The series is based on true events and aims to educate children on history. Tick Tock is featuring voices of renowned television and film artists, Ghulam Mohiuddin, Alyy Khan, Ahsan Khan and Maria Memon.

Previously in conversation with HIP, Aly Khan stated, “Tick Tock is basically about teaching children about significant events of Pakistan’s history. I’m lending my voice to one of the four characters who take the series forward. It’s typical but done intelligently, highlighting facts that must be taught.”

“The series is still in the making. Hence, we can’t reveal the story-line yet,” said Omair Alavi. “All I can say is, Tick Tock has an educational plot and will be launched in 2017.”

The series is scripted by Omair Alavi and produced by Sana Tauseef. The teaser of the animated series is already out and looks quite promising.

Upcoming comedy/thriller film Jackpot is all set to hit the cinemas in 2017. The Film is Directed by Shoaib Khan and Produced by Khurram Riaz and Shoaib khan; written by Babar Kashmiri. From there on it travels from Pakistan to Phuket, Thailand and back again to Pakistan, and with it travel other characters running after the lottery, from one country to another. While the first spell of the shoot has been shot in Thailand, the director is quick to mention that Coral Island and James Bond Island have been their choice of locations for the shoot. “It’s the first Pakistani film to be shot on James Bond Island,” he proudly claims.

“The camera unit, including the DOP, is from India. The Indian crew came to Thailand for the shoot and will also come to Pakistan [for the remaining spell]. As for the technical facilities, they were brought from Bangkok to Phuket, you can say that 80-90 of the entire cast and crew was in Thailand for the shoot,” added Khurram.

Elaborating on Javed Sheikh’s role in the film, the producer explained that the actor will be playing “the don.”

Geo entertainment tv has released the first exciting promo of the drama which is about a girl who lies about her identity. The drama has been presented by Electro entertainment and directed by Irfan Aslam. The thrilling story has been written by Irfan Ahmed Shams.

Pakistani media industry is rapidly flourishing in terms of its content creation, viewership and market. Recently, the teaser of the upcoming short film Bheetar has captured the attention of the public due to its extremely bold narrative in which a girl is marking another girl’s forehead with Sindoor. Well, the upcoming short film has been directed by Mazhar Moin and it has been written by Maahir Kamal. The cast includes Juvaria Abbasi, Manal Siddiqui, Zohaib Bux & Usman Chaudhry. The short film is about LGBTQ and it has been presented by Meem Kahani. The title of the short film reads as, ‘[Bheetar] – A love story’. Well, the central character of the show is a Hindu lady Bheetar who is shown to rebellious in love and keeps feelings for her other fellow. 7th Sky Entertainment is coming with latest drama serial named Bandhey Ek Dour Se on Geo Entertainment.

Ahsan Khan and Ushna Shah are going to appear as a couple and it seems like they make a good on-screen pair.

While as Hina Altaf will be appearing as a supporting role. The cast of the drama also features big names of the industry which include; Saba Faisal, Saba Hameed, Samina Ahmed, Noor Hassan, Madiha Rizvi, and Qavi Khan.
